Our Opinion

A spectacular property located in a secluded area south of Puerto Vallarta. Being awarded the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award speaks for itself. The family and couple oriented Barcelo Puerto Vallarta offers excellent restaurants, great service and a nice pool area. When the tide is in there is no beach. A nice quiet, alternative location from the popular Riviera Nayarit and Hotel Zone. Formerly the Barcelo La Jolla de Mismaloya.

This superior all suite hotel sits on Mismaloya Bay amidst a backdrop of tropical mountain rainforests. On a small secluded beach, the Barcelo Puerto Vallarta is an elegant, all-inclusive Mexican-style resort. It offers 316 comfortable suites with excellent service, leisure, history, beautiful scenery, exuberant flora and privacy. Relax on your vacation and pamper yourself in the hotel spa, catch some rays at one of the hotel pools or take time out to practice your favourite water sport. Hotel Barcelo Puerto Vallarta was awarded the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award in 2009.

Location: Nested between the Pacific Ocean and it's own tranquil secluded beach, 20 minutes from downtown Puerto Vallarta and 35 minutes from the airport.

My husband Nick and I got engaged at the Barcelo in February of this year. When we were trying to figure out where we wanted our wedding we could not think of anywhere else we would rather have it.We had 43 of our family and friends join us and everyone one of them had a fantastic time! We owned the volleyball pool, sang karaoke at the Cantina, dined in the amazing restaurants and all in all had a wonderful time. One of the highlights at this resort is the outstanding customer service. Big shout out to Oscar, he was our favourite waiter by the pool. Hans, the executive chef. He made sure the meal for our wedding was perfect. And to Eduardo, the manager of the buffet. He went above and beyond to make sure that we were all happy. At first I was a little concerned about whether or not the wedding would be how I imagined as it is quite difficult to plan one in a different country. However, Monica from the wedding department pulled everything together for us and I could not have done it without her! She stayed for the entire event to make sure everything went seamlessly and it did :-) I would recommend the Barcelo to anyone who wants a destination wedding. We will be back for sure!

Simply WOW

This was our first trip out of the country and our first stay at an all inclusive. Barceló has set the bar for future experiences VERY high. We loved our view of the pools and the ocean. Our room was incredibly clean and each member of the staff was fabulous. Every single member of the Barceló team is concerned with making your experience the best it can be.

Very impressed

This was my first stay in an all inclusive. Although it is located out of the Vallarta limits, a cab ride into town is not that big of a hassle. The staff is very attentive. The buffets and restaurants have amazing cuisines and kitchen staff are always attending to your wants. The facility and rooms are modern and very clean. I will definitely be staying here again.

Great experience

My wife and her sister and husband and I have been vacationing in Mexico for several years and we have seen a wide variety of resorts. The Barcelo ranks among the top. For the past several years,we have stayed 15 minutes North at the what used to be Dreams and is now the Hyatt Ziva. We truly enjoyed all of our visitis but for some reason, this year the cost to stay went up dramatically and they weren't offereing any more value so we looked around and found Barecelo. It is a beautiful, well maintained property with all of the amenities you will expect and for the most part, top notch, very attentive staff. The food is above average although I am not a fan of buffets which we had to attend for one dinner. The food was great with lots of offerings from the sea but we don't like the atmosphere in buffets in general. They are too busy.Awesome for breakfast though. The omelettes are prepared individually to taste and the wide variety of food makes breakfast something to look forward to.The Ala cartes are very good with plenty of food choices and the wait staff make it abundantly clear the they are there to serve so treat them well. The grounds are very clean with the exception of the bird poop on lounges and umbrellas. They try to keep up on it but the birds are winning the war. Not an issue though and those who choose to make an issue of it are likely unhappy with details in general.Mexico is a wonderful country but they don't get bent out of shape over some of the dumb stuff that North Americans do. If you want perfect, please don't come. The views are really amazing and the beach is as nice as anyone could want. The pools are very clean (unless one of the local Iguanas has an accident in the water on it's way to the pool deck for some chow). The service is prompt and friendly. They have an amazing soft taco bar that cooks up fresh product to taste all day. You have to try it.The tuna stuffed avocado and the shrimp Burrito are also a must have. Don't order the hamburgers or hot dogs. They are there to placate the less adventurous and are just OK in the first place. Eat the real stuff. It's awesome and good for you. They make non-stop forno pizza which is also just OK mainly due to the lack of zest and quantity of the sauce. You have to watch the guys who make dough and crusts literally all day. These guys seem to love what they do.Have a dirty Monkey. Just one a day though. They can make authentic Caesars because they have Clamato juice but they are spicy so wimps need not try them and don't insult them by asking them to tone it down. The whole point is the heat.Watch for disguised habanjeros. Found that out the hard way.The house wines are surprisingly good and we live in the Okanagan and have some of the best available and there's is better than you might expect.Don't feed the Iguanas. Don't chase them or try to touch them. You can get very close if you are slow and you will get some great shots. They have some of the biggest standard rooms we have ever had and they are very clean and modern/authentic. Nice big decks with varied but beautiful views. Don't feed the pigeons. They won't leave. Also found that out the hard way.Good entertainment.Walk around the South shore and visit the ruins of the movie set from night of the Iguana. Not really nuch to see (they are ruins after all) but a nice walk.Look for Nellie on the beach and get her to recommend you for massages etc. They are super cheap and very relaxing. Nellie knows everything.Visit Boca, about ten minutes south (80 pesos by cab) if you want to see real Mexico.Visit the zoo across the highway from the entrance to the resort but be careful when crossing. The town is called Mismaloya and is small but authentic. They have a Tequila distillery which is well worth the visit. The set of the movie Predator is there also if you like that sort of thing. It's about 15/20 minutes from PV and the Malecon which has all kinds to see and do. Ask for a nice cab though. The white ones are the best. The yellow ones are old and uncomfortable. All in all, great place. We will be back.Lastly; Mexico is a third world country which relies heavily on tourist dollars for which they work very hard to earn. Please treat them well. It is their country and just because you have paid to be there does not give you the right to treat them in any way other than with respect. Tip them well and often. 20 pesos goes a long way in their world and isn't much to us. Don't expect it to be just like home. If you don't have a sense of adventure or if your comfort zone is narrow, you will be disappointed. Go with an open mind and wide open eyes. The beauty will amaze you. The people will make you feel welcome and the experience is so worth it.

Amazing team !

It was my first time visiting Puerto Vallarta and i have heard a lot of great things about this hotel Barcelo once we were there Eduardo helped us right away with the room, and it got even better! The food is great but the workers are even better! I want to thank Elizabeth Gavino for making us feel home and showing us the real Puerto Vallarta! Martin Moodguer, who was our host for the shows was very entertaining and when we needed help about the city life we got all the information from him. When you go to the buffe make sure to sit at a table served by David or Giovani , they are both amazing people ! And the late night bar has the sweetest lady who is the server.
