Our Opinion

A spectacular property located in a secluded area south of Puerto Vallarta. Being awarded the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award speaks for itself. The family and couple oriented Barcelo Puerto Vallarta offers excellent restaurants, great service and a nice pool area. When the tide is in there is no beach. A nice quiet, alternative location from the popular Riviera Nayarit and Hotel Zone. Formerly the Barcelo La Jolla de Mismaloya.

This superior all suite hotel sits on Mismaloya Bay amidst a backdrop of tropical mountain rainforests. On a small secluded beach, the Barcelo Puerto Vallarta is an elegant, all-inclusive Mexican-style resort. It offers 316 comfortable suites with excellent service, leisure, history, beautiful scenery, exuberant flora and privacy. Relax on your vacation and pamper yourself in the hotel spa, catch some rays at one of the hotel pools or take time out to practice your favourite water sport. Hotel Barcelo Puerto Vallarta was awarded the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award in 2009.

Location: Nested between the Pacific Ocean and it's own tranquil secluded beach, 20 minutes from downtown Puerto Vallarta and 35 minutes from the airport.

Beautiful place

We are here now spending one week in beautiful paradise. The people are very friendly. We stayed in premium room with gorgeous view. We walked to the zoo and held baby jaguar, tiger, lion, lemur. Dining was very nice Oscar Martinez and Macos took excellent care of us. We got massages on the beach for $20 USD very nice and worth it.

Food Poisoning

Hello, I had stayed here a year ago and I experienced the worst food poisoning of my life. I thought I was dying. the hotel said it must have been the flu, but 3 others were just as violently sick. Also one morning I went into my room to find the glass sliding doors wide open (I know I closed them) my safe open and the tip off the bed gone. Thank god I brought my wallet with me that morning! Not a good expenience at all and I have been to a lot of all -inclusive resorts and never had these things happen.

Nice hotel, beautiful scenery.

When we first got to the hotel we thought if was far from town and even further from the airport but we realized how lucky we were to have that scenery around us.The hotel is big and really good in general, every since you walk in service is extremely friendly and welcoming.Rooms are great, they all have views to the pool and beach, pool is huge and beach is beautiful semiprivate. The hotel is in the middle of 2 hills, it feels like you are in the jungle in the middle of nowhere but only 15 minutes from downtown PV and super close to the zoo, conchas chinas, los arcos and El Edén park where you can find waterfalls, canopy and more outdoor activities. The food was good, buffet style dinner, different every night, I higher class restaurant and a bar with live music. There is also a show every night with performers.Definitely the best hotel of the Barceló chain.

Not what I expected from Barcelo

Yes....the vegetation and overall atmosphere of Puerto Vallarta was beautiful.However......Barcelo Puerto Vallarta was not the same Barcelo we experienced in Barcelo Maya!POSITIVES:As a family....we love to experience locals and the cultural experience. We went into town and took breath taking photos. The local bars and cobble stone streets filled with shops are such a great experience! We even got to witness locals partying until at least 2am on the beach. It's a small cove....and yes....shared with the lovely locals.Excursions......yes!!!!! Do it! Go to the nearby cove like restaurants. Ask your guides....they know the only place they can take you. Lol! Great food....great service....great drinks. The sand sparkles and looks like someone dropped gold glitter in it!!! No joke! They told us the sand is so shimmers. It certainly did!NEGATIVES:The do I explain this in a positive way.......The nearby restrooms to the pool....ONLY 1 by the main buffet....well....only 1 buffet.....was small....outdated and just plain gross. I dreaded taking my littles to the restroom. I'm talking full trash cans and hair in the sinks!!! Gross! The food however was "good". Certain selections were tasty. My favorite was the fresh taco stand near the entrance to the beach. Best food at the hotel FOR SURE!!! Different meats, fresh tortillas and a fresh bar of salsas to top off your taquitos with lime....onion and all your favorite taco fixings! BEACH: It rained almost every day around 3p or 4p. I quickly realized that, although the water in the cove looked tranquil and had a fab view of fishing started to rain....and I couldn't help but see the water drizzle down the mountain, from the streets above....into our cove.... sewer, stagnant, street water.....washing in a mix with ocean water.....that yes....we....our children will swim in........I became disgusted. PS....this IS the Pacific side. Although tranquil...don't expect Caribbean clear waters.PRESIDENTIAL SUITE: yes...we stayed at the 3800 sq ft suite on the top floor closest to the local restaurants. FAB suite. If it wasn't for that.....I would've been miserable. We had incredible service as I requested a private dinner one evening. I had a captain and a fab server. All requests were met. Premium wine and liquor. OVERALL: Love Puerto Vallarta. Can't say the same for the resort.POWER OUTAGES: yes!!!!! It happened! Many of times!!!! 4 nights out of 7....yes. Calling concierges was not useful. It happens you guys. Know that! I saw people on our top floor hanging outside their rooms....doors open, with their cell phones on making the best out of it with drink in hand. We later took it upon ourselves to pull out the key and "restart" the power one night.....and it worked! Not so lucky other times. It was dark....mountain side homes.....dark too. Just FYI. Darkness didn't last long....but some visitors coming to see us, were smart enough to take a few flight of stairs to get to our room right before a brief storm hit. Just saying! The light show....however, was exquisite.

another great week @ Barcelo

We were greeted and treated great during our week long stay. Barceló is all inclusive and we don't need to leave the resort with the many activities Barceló offers all day and night. Many of the associates remember us from previous visits and make us feel very welcome. We have many favorite associates.Veronica Silva who help us purchase the Barceló Club and book our vacationsYolanda Martinez the concierge who checked on us to see if there was anything we needed,,Juan Alberto Santana the lifeguard who watches over us at the poolOscar Martinez , felix N & Geovani Castro in the snack bar buffet and Edgar at the pool bar ,Antonio Rodrigues in our favorite cantina. We can't wait to come back and see the new remodel but we will miss the beautiful red tile hallways.
