A spectacular property located in a secluded area south of Puerto Vallarta. Being awarded the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award speaks for itself. The family and couple oriented Barcelo Puerto Vallarta offers excellent restaurants, great service and a nice pool area. When the tide is in there is no beach. A nice quiet, alternative location from the popular Riviera Nayarit and Hotel Zone. Formerly the Barcelo La Jolla de Mismaloya.
This superior all suite hotel sits on Mismaloya Bay amidst a backdrop of tropical mountain rainforests. On a small secluded beach, the Barcelo Puerto Vallarta is an elegant, all-inclusive Mexican-style resort. It offers 316 comfortable suites with excellent service, leisure, history, beautiful scenery, exuberant flora and privacy. Relax on your vacation and pamper yourself in the hotel spa, catch some rays at one of the hotel pools or take time out to practice your favourite water sport. Hotel Barcelo Puerto Vallarta was awarded the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award in 2009.
Location: Nested between the Pacific Ocean and it's own tranquil secluded beach, 20 minutes from downtown Puerto Vallarta and 35 minutes from the airport.
We spent one week at Barcelo Puerto Vallarta in October. All in all, we rate this resort average, which means it's not bad, but there are far better resorts in Mexico. Here are the pros and cons.Pros (what we liked):- Very spacious room. In fact, all rooms are suites. - Spacious bathroom.- The resort is relatively small and U-shaped, so you never have to walk long to go anywhere.- Fast check in and check out.- Staff is generally warm, welcoming and helpful. - Balcony in every room and great view. The cons (what we didn't like):- Food taste and quality is sub-par for Mexico. Food is not tasty and the meats are very fat. If you like culinary experiences, Barcelo will disappoint you. - Many staff member don't speak English very well. Some waiters/waitresses barely speak English (one didn't know the word "knife" at the buffet). This is unusual in Mexico. - Very small beach. Seriously, if you go to Mexico to enjoy the beach, don't go to Barcelo PV. - There are many birds flying over the resort and the pool so there is A LOT of guano (bird poop) in and around the pool. While we were there, many guest received guano on them while laying around or in the pool.- The matress felt a little worn out. Bed comfort was average.- Furnitures in the common area are old. Beach chairs and chairs in bars and restaurant are old, used and not very comfortable. - If you need any form of maintenance in your room, be prepared to wait forever.- Free WIFI for Premium guests only (and not working very well).
We just returned home from the Barcelo yesterday and had a fantastic time. We were there for an adults only experience so I cannot comment on any of the previous family experiences but let me tell you about the resort.Food: There was plentiful food. We did not try the room service as there was an extra fee but our friends said it was promp. The buffet had plenty of choices. Breakfast consisted of omelets to order, waffles, pancakes, crepes to order, smoothies, a large fruit display and yogurt with granola. Lunch and dinner both had a number of items in the salad bar, fruit, grilled veggies and multiple options for meat. If you are a vegetarian you will not have trouble finding things to eat but may struggle to find tons of proteins. We tried the Steak & Seafood (amazing steak but it is outside so wear bug spray), Italian (so so), and the Spanish (best meal by far. Everyone had perfectly cooked meals, great service, and awesome deserts) restaurants and enjoyed all of them. There is also a snack bar during the day with tacos and a smalll menu including pizza etc. In the early evening the Cantina had a number of small snacks out as well including chips w/ salsa, veggies and hummus and some skewers.Room- The room was amazing. We were in building 1 which is closes tot he Cantina for late night fun. The entire resort is easy to walk to through so getting around is easy. I really enjoyed the space for relaxing. Up on the 7th floor we were afforded excellent views of the water and the mountains. My only concern was that housekeeping took a travel pillow we had brought off the bed and we were never able to get it back. Lock it up if it is important. Bathrooms had a hair dryer and dispensers with shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner.Pools- there are 2 pools, 2 hot tubs, and plenty of chairs for lunging. I cannot imagine anyone having trouble getting a spot to sit in. Towels are provided and there were plenty of umbrellas to hide under for shade. The only downside is that they would not let us bring food from the buffet or snack bar into the pool areas. Beach- The beach area is small. the restaurants overlook the wate for excellent views but we did not spend much time down o the beach other than walking down a bit. You can get massages for $20 part way down the beach. Bring bug spray as we were very glad we had it. The beach is shared with locals who were constantly out fishing, playing in the water and enjoying the beach.Town- We didnt eat off the resort but did walk into town 5 minutes for a tequila tasting. The front desk was great about giving maps out to get to different places to go in walking distance and in Puerto Vallarta if you wanted to cab it into town.
For 10 days in the first half of October 2016 I found a refreshing experience of local environment and friendliness. The beach area is small compared to other places, but the activity going on during the day is amazing. Local fishermen and local boats to take people out to snorkel and sight-see are prominent. A stroll along the beach to the area where the filming of the "Night of the Iguana" took place is beautiful in many ways. When someone comes and offers to sell something and you say no, they actually leave you alone! I did not feel harassed like in other places. Waiters and Waitresses were all helpful and friendly. Some went out of the usual order to make things happen, like when Jose' was asked if he knew how to make "Mexican coffee". He coordinated to have the lights turned down in the buffet so the lighting of the sugar and alcohol could be seen and ran to the other restaurant to get hard ice cream rather than the custard machine. Little things like that made it special. The local Zoo was exceptional because one is allowed to hold and cuddle baby lion cubs and feed other animals. That was a first for me. The botanical garden nearby is beautiful and great for hiking. The bugs were a minor annoyance compared to the beauty experienced.
oct. 4th -14th .shuttle from airport was waiting ,nice ride to hotel. upon check-in Adilinea greeted us with a hug . we 3 had a family room on 5th floor ,my travel ing friends were put in 2 rooms on 2nd. floor . I asked for them to be moved up to 5 ,front desk lady said no other rooms available . I reminded her I was a " My Barceló " member and were entitled to upgrades ,if available ,she immediately moved them to the 5th floor family rooms ,no price increase ,all the time being very pleasant .we were then told we could go to the buffet for lunch ,got to buffet which was closed . the buffet was closed for lunch 5 days out of the ten days we were there ,VERY BAD . found later the Japanese restaurant ,which was the best ,was closed 4 days in a row during our stay ,Very BAD .the Spanish restaurant was also very good . the steak grill was poor ,the rib eye steak was 1/4 inch thick and mostly fat and grilse ,this is the snack bar during the day and is not a/c ,very hot ,even at night .we were never told the room cards were only good for 6 days ,then had to be renewed ,dumb ! Ate at Tony's one night ,were NOT disappointed . my wife fell on slippery pool steps .the medical response was immediate ,a real doctor and 2 EMT people came to the room within 5 min. She was transported to the hospital ,25 miles away ,by ambulance .the 4 day in the hospital was amazing ,excellent care . you don't have to worry about the level of care ,if you make it to the hospital .ALL the wait staff ,and bartender were great .we took our welcoming champagne to breakfast ,for mimosas and were told they would make them for us as a standard thing .ask for anything you want made ,poached eggs ,on a night that was all sea food my friend Vic asked them to make him a hamburger ,it can to the table ,huge and delicious. . special thanks to Lucy and Adalinea for all their help with the hospital happy to answer any questions .
After staying four wonderful nights at Barcelo Puerto Vallarta, enjoying the sunset from a top floor room with a beach & view of the tropics, eclectic mix of international cuisine, tentative bartenders and access to a variety of local tours, we would absolutely recommend this resort. The concierge, maitre d' (Eduardo), culinary team, masseuses, and housekeeping were all professional and attentive to our every need.
