Blue Chairs Resort
- What's Included
This gay friendly hotel could not be in a better locations, it is right on Muertos Beach in the heart for Puerto Vallarta gay district. The rooms here are basic but clean. There are many gay friendly bars and clubs within easy walking distance from the hotel. The roof top restaurant has a great happy hour. Not available as all inclusive. The place to stay for gay travelers.
Not sure what all the complaints are about on here. This is not the Ritz Carlton nor does it bull itself as such. There are plenty of little things you could quibble about--but his is a two-star hotel in Mexico! Relax people. I had a terrific stay at the Blue Chairs.First the view. I splurged (for an almost laughable $20/night on an oceanfront room. The view was unbeatable in Vallarta, a 180 degree panorama of the beach. Spectacular to lay in bed and see the pier lit up. All for $95 USD a night.Second, the location. If you want to be at the gay beach this is IT. Right on top of it. From your balcony you will see virtually every gay man in town at the very spot where your hotel is located. Blue Chairs and Green Chairs right outside your door.Third, my room-#403. I had a standard sized room on the 4th floor. It must have been recently redone. Not one thing to complain about. Clean as a whistle. Nice new tile floors and shower. Granite vanity, hairdryer on wall. Good lighting. French doors to my own balcony. The housekeeper was super nice and took care of all of my needs. Thick towels, decent toiletries. This was not a 2-star room. I have stayed in three star rooms that weren't as nice.So here a some little quibbles, no deal breakers just some room for improvement. First the water pressure was terrible in my room. Both the sink and especially the shower. This was my biggest complaint. Second, a dresser in the room would have been nice as I like to unpack for longer hotel stays. The nightstand blocks one of the doors to the closet. Note, there was no chair in my room--although there are two on the balcony which is where you be sitting anyway. The common areas were clean but not well lit, especially the stairs which you will use a lot-because the elevator is slow and broke down once while I was there. I did not use the pool--no one does, they are all at the beach.Vincent at the front desk was very accommodating as well as the bell man. There is no safe in the room. Despite my trepidation I left money, my passport etc. there the entire time. My housekeeper was very sweet and honest. Nothing ever disturbed. I believe there are safes in the lobby though. The restaurant is not great. There are way better places to eat in Vallarta. My complimentary continental breakfast was nothing special but I am not a big breakfast person. Coffee, fresh fruit plate and toast. Perfect for me and you can order eggs, etc. if you choose. For a fantastic breakfast walk five minutes to Coco's (unbelievably good!).Finally, my friends were in another room and they did note some of the things I see commented on like gaps around doors, etc. Their furniture was mismatched. But they had a suite with an enormous oceanfront balcony which is where they were all the time anyway. So if you are a beach lover, want a spectacular view and are good with simple accommodations go for it.
I stayed at this resort about 10 years ago, and while it was not exactly luxury it was fine for the price given its beach-front location and rooftop deck.Recently, sometime, the owners decided to add 3 new floors. Our stay here in 2017 was a complete, unmitigated disaster. Here is a list of problems:1. Sold us an unfinished room on an unfinished floor still under construction2. No towels. Requested towels. Got 1 towel. Next day, maid took our only towel and did not leave replacements. Requested towels. Received 2 hand towels.3. One night it rained. Rain from the upper floors drained through our room (and every other room on the new 7th floor).4. Plumbing is not secured to the wall5. Exposed wiring in the room where, we think, an air conditioner should go6. Toilet only barely works7. Sink does not have a trap, which makes for horrible smells in the bathroom8. Breakfast service (in a mostly empty restaurant with 3 servers) took 45 minutes to deliver inedible waffles and pancakesThe entire experience was so terrible that we found alternate accommodations for our 3rd night and will be issuing a chargeback against them for the entire cost of our stay.Save yourself a lot of hassle and stay elsewhere or rent one of the many nice and much more affordable AirBNB apartments in the area.
The location and view from the rooms can not be beat. That's where the good stops. I did read the reviews before arriving to was prepared for some of it . When I opened the door the smell of mold hit you like a wall. We opened the balcony door and let in the ocean air and basically left it open the entire 5 days. The pillow had black mold all over it, we had no towels and no soap. After 3 trips to the front desk I got a new used pillow and towels . The WiFi never did work , going to the lobby was the only option to get connected. Everyone I spoke to felt the same way about the place. I am in the hospitality business myself and truly feel sorry for the staff . Victor at the front desk can only do so much with what the owners give him to work with. The cleaning staff is so over worked and under appreciated I gave them large tips every day and our room got cleaned and cleaner ;-) . Never to return
called 2 days before getting their to make sure they had our reservation NADA took 5 calls to even get an answer. finally they found it get there room is not suitable to even unpack filty floors dust everywhere no AC gross bar fridge quarter in of dust on shelve behind the bed ,2 minutes and your feet were black lol ewww so got to change room at 2 in the morning was a bit better no hot water no room cleaning during the day had to ask could not see through the glass on the balcony to dirty anyways never again theres other places better then this only read the reviews after we had booked so no cancellation dont know why getaroom.com keeps selling these places
I became aware of the bad reviews after I booked a non-refundable stay so I called to ask for assurance that my room would be good. The manager ensured I would get a "superior" room as I was paying a higher rate. When I arrived there was confusion and eventually given a keg for a 2nd floor beach view room. I opened the door to an occupied room, embarrassing me quite a bit. Was then given a key for "the only" available room which was on first floor, partial view.I was OK with this "only room", which contrary to advertised description Han no coffee maker, and with non operational TV, ceiling fan, air conditioning, alarm clock, a bedside lamp with shade falling off and a loose toilet seat. When I asked to store valuables in safe at front desk, I was informed that safe not working.I stayed 5 nights and heard from other guests that their rooms were similar or with more issues. On a brighter note, the staff were so nice and when possible provided anything that they could.Location is among the best but without sound management, the place (definitely not a "resort") cannot please very many.I loved PV and will return, just need to pick a hotel that provides what is advertised.
