Our Opinion

The Buenaventura Grand is home to an excellent, friendly staff that take the time to look after their guests. The food and service is great, especially for a 3 star hotel. The beach at this hotel is quite rocky, but the big beautiful pool makes up for it. This resort is walking distance to downtown, so it's an excellent location! The Buenaventura has had renovations, adding 3 more restaurants and updating the dcor to make it feel more classy. Guests at this hotel have unlimited access to the Hacienda Hotel.

Overview

An excellent location right within a short walk to dozens of Puerto Vallarta's best shops, restaurants and bars. The setting of this charming, informal hotel is ideal; beachfront, at the edge of downtown. Pamper yourself at Buenaventura's open-air Shakti Spa or delight your "foodie" senses with authentic Mexican cuisine at one of the resort''s signature restaurants, seaside or pool snack bars.

Location: Beachfront, 5 min walk from downtown Vallarta, 20 min from the airport.

Vacation

Horrible experience, what they sell you through Expedia isn't what you get. We are a family of 5 and we were given a room with one king size bed. After a bad and short argument my husband had, we were given a "room with two beds" and we were promised we were going to be given a "deluxe room with ocean view" as soon as the next day. Before we moved all of our stuff to the next room, we asked to take a look at it, to our surprise, we were going to be given the same size room with a balcony! LOL! The bell boy finally explained that there were no such rooms. We don't understand why they couldn't say this from the beginning! Moreover, the sheets in the room were dirty, the entertainment lady constantly insulted people by calling them "fatties" or getting upset with people who didn't want to participate in her game of Lotería. And good luck with getting sitting for larger families. You won't even be asked if you could wait, you will simply be told that there's no more tables. We are way too disappointed as no one seemed to realize that we had paid extra for the larger size room, that doesn't exist, and with a view to the ocean that is blocked by construction. So good luck trying to take a nap or simply relaxing by the pool area.

Great service & close to town

Great family vacation spot. Our favorite thing about this resort was the staff. From Pancho and Annalise (in charge of nightly entertainment) to the waitstaff (shout out to Isidro) to the folks who hand out the towels, everyone was friendly, helpful, and kind. They were especially nice to our rambunctious children, who managed to spill a drink every single night. It's a fantastic location, close enough to the boardwalk and to town that you can walk there easily. Try Pepe's Tacos down the street (2 min walk). There's a cute little beach connected to the hotel, with lots of cool rocks (if you're into that kind of thing) and fun waves to play in. Three pools + a kiddie splash area + an adults-only pool area. Lots of activities, from beach volleyball to karaoke. The food was good, with pretty good variety (though we stayed so long it did end up getting repetitive near the end). The chilaquiles and omelets were a highlight of breakfast, seafood pasta and pork medallions were good at dinner, and the dessert bar was always tasty. Our only minor complaint is that we did have some confusion of the rules of the kids' club, so I'd recommend to management that they make sure new guests get a proper orientation to the hotel. Instead of orienting you to the hotel, your "concierge" is really trying to sell you a membership to a hotel club. Most people we talked to agreed to it, but then regretted it when they got the hard sell. I do know there are many other more obnoxious timeshare salespeople in town, and this is fairly mild in comparison, but this still doesn't seem like the best way to welcome someone to your hotel.

Good Stay

Had a nice time, food was not that great, drinks were good. Everything in location was convenient. All staff gave great customer service. My complaint is I asked at the desk where I could find the nearest post office to mail postcards back to states. They assured me they would take care of it, the cards have not yet arrived and I have been back for two weeks. Also, my sunglasses were missing from my room. I reported it but nothing was done, I was told if located they would contact me, but they should have never come up missing in the first place. When I left that morning for a walk they were on top of the fridge. The room had not been cleaned. When I returned the room was clean, glasses missing.
