Our Opinion

The Canto Del Sol is a very popular, family and couple friendly hotel in a good location along the hotel zone, close to restaurants and entertainment. The restaurants and bars are all centered around the pool making for a great atmosphere. They will allow 3 kids in a room, making it great for larger families. Great tennis facilities, attentive service and immaculate facilities. The pool area is nice and the beach excellent! A good choice for families, couples and singles alike. The Villas Vallarta sister resort is located behind the Canto del Sol, but it is definitely recommended to stay at this section.

Combining the charm and hospitality of 'Old Mexico' with a modern, activity-filled, beachfront resort, Canto Del Sol is a perennial bestseller. The airy atrium area, new restaurant, and huge free-form pool, create an inviting atmosphere. Recommended to tennis players for its 8 court tennis centre in an excellent location, and close to the exciting action of downtown Puerto Vallarta. The Canto Del Sol is sure to please.

Location: On the beach in the heart of the hotel zone, 5 minute drive to downtown, restaurants, nightclubs and shopping close by, 10 minutes from the airport.

Wonderful Solo Trip to Beautiful PV!

First things first: I am normally a planner, and almost always book trips way in advance. I decided to take a last minute holiday and was torn between Cabo, Playa Del Carmen and Puerto Vallarta. Seeing how I didn't have anyone to accompany me this time, I decided to go solo. I was able to book Villas Vallarta by Canto Del Sol (on without paying a single accommodation supplement fee- which sealed the deal for me two days before departure. I am so glad I booked!I arrived in PV, and walked towards the shuttle area where the Air Transat rep was, and he guided me to the bus to take me to the hotel.Check in was a breeze, and I stayed in the older part of the hotel, in room 717.If you have been to Mexico before, the older hotel rooms are massive. The room was basic, but had what I needed. A king sized bed and room for a second one it was so large. The air conditioning is ultra loud, so best advice is to turn it up during the day and turn it off at night. Bring long pajama pants and summer pj's too, because it will take a few days to get used to the temperature in your room. I had breakfast in either the small restaurant in my hotel down the hall, or over at Canto where guests have full privileges to eat and use their pool/beach. The beach vendors are fine, not too bothersome in my opinion. I converted USD to Pesos at the Canto reception area, 700 pesos to $40 usd. I barely spent it all. Food was delicious, lots of assortment for everyone. Book in advance if you plan on eating the a la carte plated meals. The service there is impeccable. All of the staff have the most friendly, smiling and helpful faces which made my stay awesome. Even though it's all inclusive- make sure you tip them, even if it's $1 usd or 20 pesos. The pool staff jockeyed drinks, chips/salsa all day long in long pants and never showed a sign of exhaustion in 30 degree heat! They rocked it.I felt very safe, never once did I feel threatened or worried about my property or safety being compromised. The other Canadian folks I met there became my family for the week, gathering for meals, day trip to the Malecon, and Sayulita (go there, it's the cutest beach town) and made the entire experience the best. I would definitely stay here again but I would stay in the Canto Del Sol side in a newer renovated room. The pool rooms are nice but they are super noisy when the nightly shows are on. Good value for the money, memories and friendships I made were priceless. Book here. You will have an awesome vacation. Even if you go on your will never feel lonely! Love Puerto Vallarta ❤️

Started rough but ended up ok

This is our second visit. Stayed at canto 3 years ago... we have gone to a good 30 all inclusive, 30 of which were in Mexico. This will be lengthy, lol We arrived nye and the start of our holiday was rough. Made us wish we spent more and went elsewhere. Check in took over a hour, never mind waiting and waiting as they only had one girl working but yet a whole bunch checking in and out at the same time. Then finally get checked in and sent across the lobby to talk to " another guy"! Again wait and wait and what really got to me was the fact I waited patiently in line and as long as u were local they got taken in front of you! Not a good welcome or start. Finally got all that done and of course come back at 3 for your room. We are traveling with our 10 year old, emailed the resort prior to booking and was told they had 2 beds or at least a sofa bed. So we booked. When checking in she asked if we needed a extra bed.... uh yes! I love my 10 year old but I'm not sleeping with him for 10 days!!!! Get to our room! Only a king! Call down and of course told someone is coming right up! So we went for lunch and figured by the time we got back it would be there just in time to have a nap since being up since 2 am, traveling all day plus it being nye, we had hoped to stay up to see the fireworks! 2.5 hrs later still no bed! 2 additional calls and we finally got one but really had no time to nap to make it to our dinner reservations. ( cause u know it would of been that time you finally fell asleep and there would be a knock knock at the door)...lolThe room itself was freshly renovated and the bathroom was beautiful! Large balcony facing canto and now amber. Hubby got locked in the bathroom when the door handle decided to fall off.... which it did several times during our stay. Had a surprise visitor day 2 waiting for us on the bathroom counter! He was big and man was he fast trying to catch and get him out! I would assume he got in through the huge gap under the main door into the room... not sure why all the door are like that but they should put a sweeper or something at the bottom of the door. Never mind to keep bugs out but to help sound proof the room. That is my biggest complaint is the level of noise that comes in from the hall! No noise from neighbors below above or beside it's all from the hall ! That glass slit window in the bathroom needs to go!!! and the space under the door. It's like people are talking in your room as they walk down the hall! Never mind any cart etc very noisy! We had no hot water for the first 4 days either. Besides these bumps in the beginning I found staying at the villas worth it and would do so again if the price is right. I just wish the pool bar opened earlier then noon and they had a lunch snack cart at the pool daily. I had no issue going to canto but some days it was so hard to get a table there to eat it would of been nice to just have basic snack items at the villas and just had to go over to canto for a " real" lunch if wanted and for dinner. It was extremely hard getting a chair at canto's main pool the first 8 out of 10 days. Lucky we hAve a kid and ventured out to the new kids pool that is hidden! It can be a maze to get to it in canto and I think that's why so many don't go or don't know about it! I really haven't seen much advertisement on it either. It is a great pool area. You can get service around the pool but I found he catered to those that tipped or were local. We tip but not on the first drink or every drink. I like to see who provides good service and give them after. The main service at the pool snack area is excellent and food very good. Allergies: my son is celiac and had a few mishaps. The waiters seemed to understand gluten free and even brought him gluten free bread at the surf and turf restaurant. The 2 incidents happened one at the Mexican a la carte and he ordered a gluten free dessert. Thank god right at the point he was cutting it to scoop up and put in his mouth the other waiter stated. That's not gluten free! So he went to double check and sure enough it wasn't!? What! Why is it listed as gluten free??? Thank god he didn't eat any and he brought him ice cream Instead. The next incident was at the surf n turf restaurant. We ordered him the steak. On the menu it just stated came with baked potatoe and veggies. We informed the waiter about his gluten free needs. Brought him gf bread etc. Then he gets his steak and there is a gravy all over it??!! It didn't say there was a gravy on it! So we pulled the waiter aside to ask just incase it is gf. Of course nope..,, so they had to make him a new one. Again glad he didn't eat any of it! Overall food very good our entire trip! Service at beach/ pool, lobby and restaurants all excellent!!Overall the trip was a good one, love pv, excellent weather !Would we go back... yes if the price is right!

Nice place nice weather

Nice celeb place, food was great nice beach with bar service. Many restaurants a pain to book a good time. So book at beginning of the trip. Best view is steak house set up in evenings on patio by the beach watch sunset while eating. Close to marina and downtown you could walk it. Not expensive by cab. We arrived there our fist room looked at tennis court next day we changed over to pool and ocean view.

Vallarta paradise

Mid vacation review / day two / arrived transported by Sunwing reps with efficiency - we had to wait an hour to get our rooms / we are traveling triple and the standard room have a king size bed and they brought us a cot! Acceptable / the room is clean and modern - flat screen tv with a funny remote / lots of Satellite channels to browse. Great bathroom large and huge shower. Room clean up has been quick and acceptable. In room safe and wifi through out both resorts. Our all inclusive out of WPG for the villas includes the playing and eating at the sister resort (higher end) a few minutes walk. Great location in hotel zone and so far I would truly recommend to my friends! A few complaints and too bad we don't have but really! You get for what you pay and too many people complain for nothing! I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the price point and the service expected! thanks

Grateful for our Christmas

Thank You to Alberto for helping us so much on our first day here, Dec 24th. We left Calgary in a snowstorm - taxis were back-logged so we drove to the Airport unsure if we´d get parking. A bit of a stressful departure. The plane left at 1 a.m. landing at 7 a.m.. I thought I´d sleep on the plane - I was wrong ( : At the hotel Alberto helped us put our baggage in storage and shared information so we were comfortable until we could check in. Through-out our time at the Villas Vallarta, Alberto continued to assist us with suggestions and help with the Spanish language. His English is very good. In our 8 days here we found him to be exceptional - he is helpful, efficient and kind. I appreciate all he did to contribute to our wonderful vacation. Our room was kept immaculate by Innes - which we certainly appreciated every day! Janeesi at the front desk was always cheerful and very helpful. Oh, the Breakfast was perfect for us. THANK You to the cooks and everyone that made our mornings memorable and fun. Antonio seems to keep everyone happy and grateful - especially us! It is all the good people who work at Villas Vallarta who made our visit the BEST!! Thank You!
