There aren't enough things to say about how wonderful our trip was to this resort. The hotel staff were so kind and attentive. The food was perfection. The atmosphere was relaxing and beautiful. We had a situation arise with our hot water in our room, and the staff quickly worked to resolve it. We just couldn't be happier and we will certainly be back in 2017!
Nice room and pool- but extra charges for all inclusive $750 room- outrageous! Charge for en suite internet, $25 charge to use steam room, sauna, shower for gym- which did not open until 7AM. Pool closed at 7 PM- convenient for hotel to enforce dinner time dress code- guests have to be shuttled to a sister, much cheaper hotel with pool full of screaming kids- and dinner served buffet style. Dining not open as scheduled at breakfast time. Did not appreciate either having to leave my hotel to get dinner, or having yo round up staff to open breakfast. Food portions ridiculously small. Maintenance issues: shower drain very slow. Door lock temperamental- not repaired as promised.
First, this was our second choice, so we arrived in comparison mode. On arrival we were given fruit juice in a fluted glass. The lobby was beautiful, and checking was quick. I'm home now reflecting on Casa Velas which has become our new first choice. We thought that we wanted a beach, we were surprised how convenient it was to be driven to the beach club. Yet we only went once. I thought I needed to be closer to the equator, yet 85 degree days were so much nicer to tolerate then 95 degree days. Then the food, the spa and the opportunities to wander, the touring. What I will remember most about Casa Velas is the kindness of the staff. For example....One morning I agreed with the hostess at breakfast how cool it was (about 70 degrees). She placed her wrap across my shoulders. Another example-one evening a waiter was concerned that I had not eaten all of my meal. I explained that I was saving myself for dessert. The portion sizes are perfect -most are 4 -5 course meals with sorbet to cleanse your palate. New Years Eve Party was a blast! We met so many people, played free casino games had an amazing meals, danced! And the balloons!Did I mention evening enrichment classes and painting lessons with a local artist Leon de la Vega? We will be back
This was our second visit to Casa Velas. We enjoyed it so much on our first 5 day visit that we booked a longer stay this time. The property is absolutely beautiful, the staff are lovely & attentive, the food wonderful. To call it "all inclusive" brings to mind - watered down drinks, buffet quality food, poor service, rowdy activities - this is NOT Casa Velas. Casa Velas is a true Gem.... well, as long as there is not a wedding happening at the resort.....make your inquiries!! This is a SMALL intimate resort, that caters to personal service, in a relaxing & non-pretentious manner. It has beautiful grounds, and one lovely pool to relax by - a perfect size for the number of guests - never will you want for a lounger or towel etc - well again, unless there is a wedding. During the 8 days we were there, 3 days hosted a sizable and at times a rowdy wedding crowd. This group often overtook the pool area such that it was sometimes difficult to get a lounger, the pool behaviors were lets just say... "not relaxing", and well - we non-wedding guests felt like Wedding Crashers . This was no fault of the wedding attendees - they were a young group for the most part, and there to celebrate a beautiful & momentous occassion. However, for those wanting a relaxing holiday where you are paying prime dollar to do so, you could not avoid the raucousness of the party, unless you took transportation to one of the sister properties, as there is only one pool. We particularly love our down time on vacation, as we live hectic lives - it's why we travel. We enjoy staying put and simply relaxing. This was not achieved during those three days. All of the non-wedding guests whom we well enjoyed, commented on the lack of relaxation that prevailed around the pool & all of us felt like Wedding Crashers - it couldn't be avoided. Many guests commented and brought their concerns to management, but at that point there was nothing to be done - a simple apology was given. I was sent a gift of creams from the spa, which although a lovely gesture, did not make up for the three days of vacation that were less than enjoyable, particularly at the premium cost of this resort. If this were my property, I would implement a policy whereby if there is to be a wedding booking, that the wedding would have to take the entire resort, otherwise - no wedding bookings. I am sure every person whom we travelled with on this trip would concur. Sadly, the family whose wedding this was, and whose name I will not mention, could easily have taken the resort over. A policy that should have been implemented by management. I also felt sorry for the staff around the pool, as they were literally running to accomodate the volume of requests - more staff were certainly needed to maintain the quality of service CV has been known for. As such we are spending a month in PV this year, however not returning to CV, as are some of the friends we had met. So suffice it to say, make your inquiries prior to booking, and if there is no wedding, Enjoy!
First time at this Velas. Very friendly and accommodating staff. The food at the restaurant, around the pool and at the Beach Club was all excellent. Quiet vacation, exactly what we were looking for. We will certainly be back!
