Casa Velas is not a stay, it's an experience. From the moment you arrive you are treated as if you are royalty. I don't think I touched any doors the entire time I was there (meaning the staff opened them all for me). I like that the check-in is done while you are seated so that you can help to relax from your travel day. If available they also provide short massages to you while you check in. Jorge was my main point of contact he was amazing! Anything that you need just ask Jorge. The one statement I remember him saying is "we love to break rules". To me that meant that they love doing whatever it takes to make the guest feel comfortable and happy. Ania and Dalia were amazing at the concierge desk any questions that I had they were able to answer. The rooms were quaint and clean. The minibar was stocked daily and the toiletries smelled so good!I found the food to be hit or miss but they will also keep going until they get something right. Cesar is the man to talk to about your dietary needs and preferences he works hard to make sure everything is in order and I like that he asked for feedback. Breakfast was my favorite meal (don't leave without trying the french toast). The chicken tacquitos (from the bar menu) and the tuna tostada (at the beach club) were also really good. The host I had most often at meals was Emily. She always greeted the guests with a warm smile and did good at remembering guest names and room numbers without having to ask.The beach club access was a great addition I liked the food and atmosphere there. As I said at the beginning Casa Velas is an experience. It's almost hard to describe until you see it for yourself. I like that the entire staff works together to provide seamless service. It was hard to remember names of everyone who interacted with me because the attention was just that frequent by the entire staff. I found that many guests there were repeat guests and I can see why. Trust me when I say I can't wait to go back!
Casa Velas prides itself on its customer service and has won many awards - and rightly so. Initially, I found the repetitive Casa Velas greeting reserved for guests a little obsequious but soon got used to it! Every comfort is provided, every query acted upon and the tiny fixes our room needed were dealt with promptly and courteously. The staff are friendly and accommodating and the food is truly wonderful; the quality of our evening meal must surely have been on a par with a Michelin star restaurant. We did however wonder why they had not introduced soup spoons - so much easier than battling soup with a dessert spoon. Our room was very comfortable, perhaps to be really picky, there was not quite enough drawer space. We had a small tub outside which overlooked the golf course but we could not be seen, apart from by the endless supply of colourful and noisy bird life :). If you like Peafowl and iguana this is the hotel for you. If you fancy staying by the beach for a change, then the beach club is a short hotel-provided taxi drive away with an equally relaxing ambience (provided you can successfully bat away the one or two beach vendors)! We absolutely loved it and would love to return some day soon. (Many of the other guests were on their second, third, and fourth visits.)
My wife and I went to Casa Velas for our honeymoon, It was my first time in Mexico, and her 4th trip to Puerto Vallarta. From the moment we drove into the property we were immediately relaxed, this was to do with the resort, the staff and the overall feel of the place. We spent 8 amazing nights there, and will be going back next year to relive it.As an adults only resort it was very peaceful and a perfect way to spend a week in Puerto Vallarta.A Taxi to the center of PV was only about $6, but we only did that once so I could check it out. We split our team between the beach club and the pool for dinners, and just hanging out. The staff at both spots were superb. I think for us the more relaxed feel of the beach club was better for dining. and the food slightly better for lunch! As I said the staff were amazing, but special recognition must go to Jorge at Casa Velas and Daniel at the beach club. Both always had the hugest smiles on their faces. The Room was great, we probably would not spring for the Jacuzzi tub next time, mostly because we spent so much time in the water that was the pool/ocean.It's a quick shuttle ride to the beach club, but we also walked a couple of times, its maybe 10 minutes if you walk slow.
First stay at Casa Velas and it won't be our last! This resort is small, serene and calming for the mind and body. We have stayed at many resorts over the past 20 years in Puerto Vallarta and this time we have found our heavenly place. We stayed for 2 weeks and you can be as busy or as quiet as you like. You will not find loud music or pool side chair battles here. Prior to our stay I had emailed the resort and was responded to quickly and our accommodation request was met. Our welcome from Jorge was relaxing and we were staying in a ground floor Master Suite. Ample room with a walk out to a patio with two chairs. Very comfortable bed and housekeeping does an excellent job of taking care of you! The food at this resort surpasses any we have had and the menus at Emilianos change daily to give you a taste of different dishes from their sister resort Grand Velas. Always delicious, fresh and with beautiful presentation. The Beach Club also has lunchtime delicacies to enjoy but the dinners there are incredible! Please go early, have a drink and watch the beautiful sunsets. Ask about the opportunities for Dinner and Lunch with Chef Yolanda. You will be amazed by her gastronomic knowledge and beautiful way of preparing a feast for you! While we were there she made Paella on Friday nights at the Beach Club ~ Amazing!A massage and facial were enjoyed at the Spa and were both relaxing, professional and exquisite! Dalila and Lorena deserve praise for their kindness and beautiful disposition. In summation this is a jewel of a resort headed by Karina the ever present Casa Velas manager who is visible to her guests and genuinely cares. Her dedicated team are there to make your stay amazing! Thank you to the following special people that made a difference to us, we hope to be back very soon!Luis, Rene, Yorge, Anais,Luz, Ruth (amazing poolside service), Fredy (always smiling), Enrique (always ready with fresh towels), Antonio and Roberto. Beach Club staff Eduardo, Daniel and Andrea (professional, warm service). Francisco the driver who always has a smile and a kind word.
We read all the reviews prior to deciding to stay at Casa Velas for one week in November. We have stayed at several other top of the class all inclusive/adults only resorts in Punta Cana and Cancun so we have a fairly good benchmark for comparison. Here are our findings:The good: All of the food and drink were absolutely fabulous. Every meal & every drink was the best! Very attentive to addressing special request (tending to my wife’s bug bites, electrical outage in room, room service, changing rooms, massages). Availability of cabanas and pool chairs (no need to get up at sunrise to reserve a poolside real estate like other resorts). Attention to detail: always cleaning & trimming. Beautiful esthetics with all the turtles/peacocks/fish. WIFI was excellent throughout the resort. Numerous TV channels were in English. The inconsistent: The service. Everyone raves about the service. And most of the time it was extremely good. But there were too many times (particularly poolside) when they forgot to deliver our drink order; served the wrong drink or went AWOL. Particularly given the limited number of people to serve at a boutique hotel, this really shouldn’t happen. The one time we did use the mini bar it was not replenished. They continually requested our room number: I have never had an all-inclusive resort continually ask me what our room number was. Upon booking a reservation, during dinner, at the pool, at the bar, etc. And imagine the shock when they give you a bill at the end of your meal/time at the pool to sign. Oh, yes it is all inclusive, but apparently if you want to leave a tip, you now have a basis to value your tip. I have never seen this practice at any other resort. And I have never seen anyone mention it on a review. Lastly, the distance from hotel to the ocean was well documented in other posts and although a bit inconvenient, was well known prior to arrival.Concerns: The base level room. Totally unacceptable. Our philosophy is to book the least expensive room at the best resort. It has always served us well. Since we spend very little time in the room, why pay for more then you need. However, our base room #503B had one of the smallest living areas we have ever seen in any hotel, let alone a “Luxury All-Inclusive Boutique Hotel” (the bathroom was good sized). Absolutely no room to sit and use a laptop. The balcony was worthless; barely enough room to stand (two feet wide?). For this level of resort, we expected more even for the base level room. To enjoy our stay, we decided to move to another suite upgrading two levels and they did allow us to negotiate the up charge but the final price ended being CONSIDERABLY higher (30%) than what we had expected to pay for this trip. (Not much leverage when you’re already at the resort.) The amenities at the upgraded suite were exceptional.Maybe we are the exception and nobody else has ever had anything go wrong at this resort. By all means, we are not suggesting others to stay away. In fact, everyone we talked to while at this resort loved it. But we truly value the service that TripAdvisor provides and it only works if everyone shares their good experiences as well as their disappointments. This is a great resort, but for our money, we have done better in the past.
