Our Opinion

The kids' activities here are amazing! Crown Paradise Club is one of the top kids hotels in Puerto Vallarta. The staff here are lively and active with activities going on everywhere. This is definitely a lively hotel! All the pools here are busy and loud, and the beach, although huge and beautiful, is full of beach vendors that won't leave you alone. If you want to relax, you'll have to stay in your room, which may not be that bad as they are well stocked and comfortable. The food and restaurants are top notch but the service at the bars isn't up to par. There is a disco on site with drinks included. This is also where the nightly entertainment takes place here. Did we also mention that there is a water park shaped like a giant pirate ship? Great for kids!

Overview
The Crown Paradise Club is quietly nestled on a beautiful beach, near the marina pier right next door to the Golden Crown Paradise. Families will enjoy the daily activities program, Kids' Club plus mini water park, tennis courts, and games room. A Canadian favourite offering excellent value.
Location: Beachfront, 10 minutes from downtown, 5 minutes from the airport.

A Three Star Hotel

I think a good way to summarize part of our experience is do you want to vacation in Mexico or vacation with Mexico. My husband and I and our 6 year old son were there over the Christmas Holidays. The check in was easy and simple, bell boys brought our belongings to the room quickly and we were off exploring. The room is sufficient, I would agree that the corners could be scrubbed, but overall impressions they were simple and sufficient to our needs. The Pirate ship area was fantastic for our son, he enjoyed all that it had to offer and had a lot of fun with all of the kids that were there, the other two pools that we were able to use were great but are on the smaller side. Food was good, as were the drinks and snacks. Not always changing, so when you stay for 10 days one does get bored. We did find that the staff did cater to the locals more than to us, which was frustrating. I did express my concerns to the Concierge the New Years Eve protocols, and it was well received, but I was also polite with my comments. I think if we were there for 7 days we would have been fine, but as the days went on towards 10, we were bored with having only one buffet to eat from and the snack bar always being the same. Many of the other reviews we read before during and after we agreed with some of the statements. You make the vacation what you want, we were there to spend time as a family, relax and have some fun and that we did.

Great resort .. but too much "no thank you" with beach vendors

This resort is excellent overall. The food at the buffet as other reviewers have stated was warm at best but it's a buffet so not sure what people expect. If you go to the stations, you will have a hot meal if desired. All the reservation restaurants were outstanding. We especially enjoyed the ones over at the Golden where you were also allowed to book. Our room was on the 4th floor overlooking the main pool and the door was facing the adult pool area. Great view. Music a very loud at the main pool but we were hardly there when that was going on so not a big deal. The children's area looked excellent but we didn't notice it existed really .. the resort is set up well for families or couples to enjoy. Our room was very clean as was the resort overall.I am a clean freak and an excellent cook so I'm unsure what sous chefs other people have cooking for them at home, but we were pleased with what was available. No guac which is one of the things I enjoy when visiting mexico but that was okay too didn't need the extra calories. There is no coffee in the room and the buffet opens at 7 so if you are an early riser, you have to wait for a coffee. We got up early to enjoy the beach and sunrise to ourselves. Maybe -0-10 people on the beach at that time. You can walk a very long way along the beach .. excellent location. We were treated to fireworks a few times a week, and watching the cruise ships come and go was also something we enjoyed. The beach area was good. No issues finding a lounger. I saw towels saving chairs and then nobody came to them for hours. We never left a towel as we never saw the need to save a spot .. we got to the beach by 10 or 11 each day. While the towels I saw left stayed there for the 4-5 hours a day we were at the beach but nobody came to claim them, we heard a couple other people had theirs taken, so maybe keep your towel with you as you really don't need to reserve a spot on the beach .. but probably at the pool areas as those seemed to be quite packed. The only complaint for us was the continual onslaught of beach vendors. I decided to count one day how many times we were firmly saying "no thank you" and it was 64 from 11 am to 3 pm. Yes, 64!!!!! That's once every 3.75 minutes!!! They didn't care if you were sleeping, eyes closed, reading a book, never made eye contact .. they would come up to you, wake you and regardless of the words "NO THANK YOU" they would linger until you said it 2-5 more times, then come and back .. and back ..every single day we were there until maybe the last two days after someone sitting with us completely flipped out on them asking for the vendor licence. So maybe lose your crap on them day one and issue a do not disturb order to them all on the day you get there. This would be the only reason we would not come back to this resort, as I'm not confident the do not bother us would work as my guy did that one day and they still wouldn't stop the days after that - they did for the most part not bother him that particular day. The resort should have better control ensuring they stay behind the rope and as that they be respectful of their guests who came there to RELAX and not be continually pestered (every 3.75 minutes). I was even at a lounger in one of the back huts trying to read with a very large hat on and they came at me right up to me shoving their wares under my hat. If you are looking for peaceful enjoyment of the beach as we were .. this is NOT the resort for you .. which is really too bad as it is great value overall. The resort is 3 blocks from Walmart and one block from another grocery type store similar to Sobey's called Soriana. We were able to walk to downtown PV in about an hour. There is another shopping centre about 20 minutes the opposite direction of Walmart with a starbucks in an unfinished centre along the way. We like to spend a day or two checking things out so that part was nice.If you are into tours, being right next to the Marina is a bonus.

Manage your expectations

We stayed at this resort over Christmas, 2017. We understoond this is a premium time and understood that we are paying more for what we are getting - Mexico for Christmas is a bi-annual event for our family which is spread all over Canada. We had a wonderful holiday because we were four familes together for Christmas, but make sure you manage your expectations before you book here. The food leaves something something to be desired and by day four I coulnd't eat on the resort anymore. We booked most nights in the restaurants, but they struggled to accomodate our large group. When we did get to the restaurants they were less than half full. There were several cases of food poising (or really, really bad GI issues) in our group of 15 over the week. Most of the guests at the resort were Mexican and the resort definitely catered to them - including food and the activities at the pool were all in Spanish - recreation staff struggled with English. The resort is older with many upgrades, staff were constantly cleaning the public spaces, but the rooms could use a good cleaning in the corners. Final piece of advise, don't leave your towels on the chairs at the beach, we made this mistake twice where we reserved our spots early in the morning and when we went back after breakfast, our towels were gone, The hotel said they would charge us $40US to replace each towel. On a positive note, the bartenders know how to mix a drink!

Just don’t

Stayed there last week and ugh where to begin. One of the girls at the front desk idk if it was me or her but we did not vibe. Everyone else there was extremely friendly especially the bell boys they were always smiling and working so hard. I initially booked a family suite so my kids could have their own space. My youngest is 5 feet and barely fit in the bunk bed. There room was basically just sectioned off and a very small bunk bed was crammed in. No way was it a twin size bed. We changed rooms the next day. The view from the new room was beautiful but be aware if you are by the pool the morning activities will wake you up in the am which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The room was a motel 6 room. The beds were not comfortable the furniture was outdated broken and it wasn’t cleaned very well. I don’t think our mini bar was ever stocked my daughter asked for more water that never came. Oh the food two words gross and cold. The food had no taste and was always cold or luke warm each and every time. Lots of carb filling (potato’s rice beans pasta) bland food with no taste. The bacon was so greasy it was nasty. At the egg bar we saw a bug crawling on the counter into the veggies. That pretty much sealed the deal for eating there. The cooks seemed pretty much miserable one lady had made a comment about the amount of hours the made her work. The toaster was broken so we couldn’t even toast our bread. Since it’s a family resort there are a lot of kids running around sticking their hands in the food and of course cutting you off. The kids bar is also sectioned off hot dogs fries quesadillas again carb filling. There is a market about a block away we went there to buy snacks to fill up before heading out. We did try the Italian restaurant that was decent but nothing special. The day we ate there I had spoken to the receptionist and asked for a reservation they did it for me since we left the hotel prior to the call in times. When I called to confirm another person told me that they didn’t do that I said well she did this am and she said oh she didn’t tell me. Another girl got on the phone and said this is your time and your number didn’t you get the message to which I replied no that’s the reason for my call. On the day of check out we were trying to get ready and the water would not turn on I saw housekeeping and she said she would call for help and they never showed up. My family took a cold cold shower with drops of water. I had asked for a last check out and they gave me 1 free hour and they wanted to charge me an extreme amount for every hour after that no thanks. The elevator is very small crammed and smelled bad, we avoided it and took the stairs. Wouldn’t recommend this place.
