Location: Directly on a secluded beach, surrounded by the Sierra Madre mountains, in beautiful Bahia de Banderas. Only 20 minutes south of downtown Puerto Vallarta and 30 minutes from the airport.
Grounds were clean- room smelled. Housekeeping service was good. The best thing about the stay was we had a three rooms together;each with a semi-private swim out pool which was really cool. If you get one of these rooms make sure you have a view of the ocean. We were placed in a room with a view of a bush and the roof of the chinese restaurant. When we went to request a room with a view of the ocean, the boy at the front desk told us that the description only said "semi-private" pool - not a view. It is also very very loud because of the location (1st floor- near the pathway). Guests tend to congrigate near the rooms to smoke. The refigerators were never restocked during our stay; and you need to beg for premium liquor. Best bartender is Ruben in the Club Tower- food is ok. They are very generous with the bottled water. This is good.
The setting of this resort is its best feature, it has a private beach and frames a postcard view of rolling hills around a bay. You can see whales in the distance and stingrays swimming right in front of the shoreline. Food is better than average for an all inclusive and especially liked the buffet restaurant and the steakhouse (not so much the Asian restaurant). Two reasons not to give a 5 star rating: the rooms are small and have no balcony (we were in the regular tower not the club tower). When you're at the beach a balcony is a must have to take in the view, dry swimsuits and towels. Also the resort is small relatively speaking to others we have visited in Mexico in the past. Lastly if you are a light sleeper note that all rooms face ocean and can get quite noisy at night from the crashing waves. A/C can drown this out but ours was rackety and even noisier it definitely made it a bit difficult to get a relaxing sleep.
After first day no maid service - maids go home at 4 we were told, someone did a once over. next day we get back to room at 330 after being gone for 6 hours, no maid service yet. We called to make sure we got it. The minibar only stocked once without our request. So far, still no contact from management. Not many meal choices for breakfast or lunch. We went for dinner and shown wine list, we say we only wanted a glass of wine, we were told that wine only comes in bottles - not true as we find out later - on a selection I asked the waiter how much in dollars - he said $9, it was $50 - I should have calculated myself . Now we are getting messages for us to put Credit Card on file. I told desk what had happened and still no contact from management. Another message left for me and when I called to ask for manager they kept requesting my CC#. I went to desk, asked for manager, waited 10 minutes and told my story. He said he had no authority and had to speak to someone else. Never contacted by manager for follow up but my wine purchase was removed at checkout. I'm sure nothing was followed up with housekeeping or waiter either. The beds were not comfortable and sheets were loose in no time. Great view, great beach, our other all-inclusive experiences were better.
It was fun just relaxing at The Hyatt Puerto Vallarta. Good food, entertainment and drinks. We are investigating visiting the other Hyatt Ziva locations. We especially liked the Bob Marley cocktails. Hope stay at a Hyatt Ziva in the future.
After a fantastic stay at the Hyatt Ziva in Cabo this past summer, we decided to try the Hyatt Ziva in Puerto Vallarta and they did not disappoint. Ziva is now at the top of our list of all-inclusive resorts and we can’t wait to return or visit another one of their locations. The Ziva in Puerto Vallarta is in a beautiful location with its own private beach guarded by huge rocks on each side. We heard from our cab driver that the Hyatt is the only hotel in the area with its own “natural” beach. The building itself may be a little older, but it’s fully updated and meticulously kept. The really nice thing about this location is that it’s not super huge and spread out like some places and everything – beach, restaurants, etc. – is a fairly short walk. I don’t think the hotel was 100% full when we were there, but it seems like there would be enough lounge chairs on beach to go around. Bars were plentiful and bar service on the beach was great. A cab ride into town is less than 10 minutes and around 85 pesos ($4-5 US). The staff were all wonderful and eager to serve. As for restaurants, they were all great – probably the best of all-inclusive resorts we’ve visited. Pureza and Melanzane were very good. The filet at Blaze was excellent with a special shout to Oscar, our waiter, Aida, the hostess, and Juan, the manager. The Vivaz buffet was also very good with super fresh food including our favorite, the lunchtime ceviche bar. One of really nice things about Ziva resorts is that there are no dinner reservations at any of the restaurants – it’s first come first serve – which is nice because you don’t HAVE to be somewhere at a certain time. Even nicer, they don’t require long pants for their dinner restaurants – just nice resort casual shorts. Some beach resorts require that and I don’t know why since you’re on vacation. We will definitely be back to this location.
