The Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta is located south of the downtown strip in Mismaloya. The property is cleverly secluded amongst the side of the cliffs, creating the impression that it is its own private paradise. Perfect for an intimate romantic getaway or a well-balanced and family-oriented vacation, this property possesses all the luxurious inclusions and amenities to make any vacation one-of-a-kind. From the roaming beach and pool carts, to the tequila sommelier, this property offers several unique culinary experiences. This resort is also constantly refining its facilities to offer the absolute best for each guests' stay.

Location: Directly on a secluded beach, surrounded by the Sierra Madre mountains, in beautiful Bahia de Banderas. Only 20 minutes south of downtown Puerto Vallarta and 30 minutes from the airport.

Ongoing Service Issues Prove Disappointing

I had hoped to give higher marks for this stay but the overall experience and repeated service issues fell way short of expectations, which was based on a previous visit to another Ziva property and 6 other All Inclusive resorts across 4 companies/brands, including 3 in Mexico. I hold Diamond status with the Hilton and Marriott/SPG brands and am a World of Hyatt member with no status, but will stay with Hyatt to earn/redeem points. I always try and provide constructive feedback to a property that would not necessarily be a deterrent for a future stay as I realize things sometimes 'fall through the cracks.' Comments also try to be objective in nature and not subjective to (my own) personal taste, nor do I hold anything against a property that is outside of their control. Arrival/Room: Upon arrival to the lobby, there was no cold towel or welcome drink offered. Not a big deal, just an observation. At check in, I was not given a map of the property or any explanation of the activities that are included/not included (at the beach). As a first time visitor, I would have liked to know where things were located and what was available to do.The bell-man showing us the room noticed that the refreshment center had no snacks stocked and only a partial allotment of beverages in the fridge, including an opened, half-drunk bottle of water. There were also no robes in the closet. He said he would make sure we'd get those items. While the drinks and snacks were delivered a short time later the robes never came. Later that night I went to the front desk to request them and was told the robes would be delivered; they never were. The next morning, I went to the front desk once again to request robes and was told they would be delivered immediately. Again, they never came.When making the reservation, I specifically requested a quiet room as part of my room preference. One week prior to arrival, I received a reservation reminder email saying to please reach out if there were any additional requests. I responded directly to the property, again reiterating the request for a room in a quiet location. The room assigned was on the ground floor which had no enclosed walkway (all floors above are enclosed) in a high traffic area. More importantly, it was located directly next to a pool. While daytime noise was tolerable, there was a private reception the next evening with amplified music causing excessive noise. When I told the front desk of our desire to move (the next day), the initial response was that ‘the music would be ending in about 15 minutes then it will be quiet afterwards.’ I understood that the “curfew” was at 10 pm but I didn’t want to have to deal with this on subsequent nights and asked for a room at the other side/end of the building away from the pool. When we moved the next day, the 2nd room was in the exact same location just higher up (still directly over the pool). This proved to be just as bad since the amplified sound bounced/moved upwards. (The lock was also removed on the balcony window so it did not totally close). Additionally, there was no turn down service on day 2 which is appreciated as they remove and replace used towels. Dining: For our first lunch in the buffet we were seated at a dirty table & chairs with no napkins. The napkin issue continued for 4/7 meals in the buffet where none were given or just a single paper variety. When I asked for one at the Mexican (themed) meal, it appeared that I was given one that was dirty and actually used as it had multiple damp stains.Hyatt doesn’t use a reservation system for its a la carte restaurants which can lead to extended wait times. When I arrived solo to the Mexican restaurant at approx. 9:40 pm, I was told there would be a 20 minute wait. I counted 7 empty tables including 3 of the small ‘2 tops’. Many tables were not set/cleaned from previous guests and used as a busing station for trays with dirty plates. When I was seated, 5 of those tables still remained open. Once seated, I waited nearly 10 min until the waiter came by. After immediately ordering, it took 20 minutes to receive a single cold appetizer and my drink never arrived. On a subsequent outing to the Italian restaurant, we waited 30 minutes for entrees to be delivered after getting our soup/appetizer, despite being the 2nd table seated and have their order taken immediately after the restaurant opened. The extended wait time did not result in quality food; the risotto rice was hard/under cooked swimming in a soup of cheese sauce and the pasta was cold because it had been precooked and been sitting out on the counter before added to heated sauce. Other things of note: • No fresh tortilla chips in buffet restaurant but rather packaged Tostitos brand, including none on "Mexican" themed night. Fresh chips used/served in a la carte restaurants • Many of the Purell hand sanitizer machines were always empty and/or inoperative• Daily pool-side snack cart always appeared to be mango & veg sticks• “Asian” theme night occurred at the buffet 2 times in 3 days.Kids Club: Kids Club has a policy of no parents allowed, which is something we have not experienced at other resorts (there are a number of reasons why we want to be with our child during activities). Not a deal-breaker per se, but an inconvenience. However, scheduled daily activities that we planned to attend were cancelled without any notice or explanation as to why. This was the first AI property we’ve visited where this occurred. They also actively promoted and encouraged participants for the evening pinata activity. Yet, when a younger/smaller children at the front of the line broke it early on in the session, there was a majority of kids behind her that didn't get a chance to participate. They then proceeded to toss out the candy. Why not have a 2nd or 3rd one on hand to utilize so that others could take a swing??Check Out/Departure: Check out is not the most seamless or relaxing process compared to other properties in that there is a convoluted system of needing to get and show a departure ticket to multiple people. There also isn't a designated 'check out' counter, so departing guests are waiting in lines with arriving ones trying to check in. There is also no central system as to where guests can stand in line; the front desk reception is a square with agents stationed around each side. As such, lines form on all sides wherever an employee is stationed. Depending on the nature of the guests’ needs in front of you (e.g. checking in vs. checking out, asking a simple question, etc.) you can be waiting in line longer than those around you.The overall experience here is night and day from the property in Los Cabos. There is great potential but there are clearly lots of areas for improvement as it relates to the execution of quality service. I already had booked multiple room reservations here for planned return visit to in the fall. However, because of this experience and the many ongoing issues, I will look at alternative properties in the area to possibly stay at instead.

Best experience and excellent service

The Hyatt Ziva in Puerto Vallarta showed my family and I excellent service, so much so that I just had to share it with the world! 2 people in particular really blew me away. Carlos, entertainment staff, and Jesus, amazing bartender. Carlos gave us a great tour and history of Puerto Vallarta and took us on a fun kayaking trip. Jesus wowed us with his "molecular cocktails" and excellent skills. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a dreamy getaway!

Love love love it! Best beach in Puerto Vallarta!

This was our second year in a row at Hyatt Ziva! It was my husband's birthday the day we checked in, and there was a beautiful plate of fruits and a very toughtful Happy Birthday note waiting for us in our room. What a nice surprise :) Three days later it was MY birthday and when we came back in our room after the beach, there was a beautiful cake and a lovely card as well... Just love the attention to detail from everyone. Superb service, superb employees! The check in was very fast and easy, the people as friendly as we remembered, always smiling and very helpfull! We spent 10 glorious days! My husband had to push me in the taxi when it was time to leave ;) We will absolutely go back to Hyatt Ziva! Can't wait!The food is great at every restaurant. Fast service always with a smile. The beach is by far the BEST in Puerto Vallarta. Clean,private and well kept!5 minutes from town.Great shopping! We went to Sayulita,beautiful town! 1½ hour taxi ride (800 pesos) worth every penny.Different vibe than Puerto :)

Our Experience as a Family & with Friends

This is A Great Family Friendly Resort Property.The Staff are Extremely Friendly & go the extra mile very courteously at every twist & turn.We were there 7 nights & 8 days and Every Day was Great!The only grievance we all had was their Asian Restaurant. It is A DISASTER. This resort is better off just closing it down until they find Chef who knows rudiments of Asian Cooking. Quite simply this restaurant's food contributes to give Hyatt Ziva a bad name.I must admit though the Ambience is wonderful at this Asian Restaurant.It puzzles me how a Hotel Chain such as Hyatt cannot find a decent Chef for this Asian Restaurant.During the time we were there they were undergoing renovations as well. Which was a bit of a dampener.That apart from a front office fiasco of giving us the wrong room on day 1 & then making amends then onwards, over all A Great Holiday & Experience.

Make sure to visit Arturo who works with both beach cabanas and the pool, he's incredible! This is a great hotel for relaxing and being in the ocean, not as immense as other Zivas so feels more intimate.
