This was my first time in Puerto Vallarta and I couldn't have chosen a better resort for the trip/wedding! The hotel staff is fantastic - courteous and friendly; especially Beatriz and Victoria. They helped make this stay wonderful. I had such a fun time with all the activities they planned...kayaking, snorkeling...just to name two. The gym was clean, well-supplied, and perfect for my workout. The rooms were spacious and quiet, so I could hear the sound of the waves. I especially liked how the grounds were maintained; a lot of care and effort goes into their work. Finally, the food choices were superb. I also liked that the 24/7 coffee bar served sandwiches and pastries. A fabulous place to visit! Thanks.
We visited between October 31st to November 11th with our 2 adult children in order to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We were last at this property back in 2013 when it was still Dreams. We travel to PV 3 times per year and over the course of the years have stayed at many different properties so we believe we have a very good understanding of what we like and don’t like, and what to expect and not expect based on the price points. CHECK-INWhen inquiring if our previously made requests to be as high as possible in the club tower were going to be met, we were told that the top half of the hotel was under construction and the 2nd floor was where our 2 rooms were. Realizing that we could not change the course of construction, and it was also probably true that closer to the noise would be worse, we accepted the situation as presented. (Even though we were a few floors down from the construction, time in the room was not peaceful as the noise carried substantially. For late sleepers or when we wanted a respite from the heat of the day, it was not pleasant to be in the rooms, not matter what level.)On walking to the room we discovered that the bottom of the club level tower was surrounded with drywall hoarding, and noise as well. This was very disappointing because the area under construction was the private lounge for the tower which meant weren’t going to have the use of that area as well for our stay. We had seen this on our last trip to the property and thought it would be a great perk and worth the added cost of the room upgrade to Club Level. ROOMBoth rooms for the family were basically brand new having just been renovated and were great. Modern, clean, and up to date with all expected amenities including huge shower, separate toilet with full door, well stocked mini-bar. Only 1 issue worth noting - the first morning we woke up to a literal lake in the entire bathroom / toilet areas as a pipe had leaked all night. View on the 2nd floor was still decent enough. Good large balcony, beds, pillows and huge TV – although channel selection seemed to be more limited than other properties. One interesting issue was that there was a safe in the room but it was not bolted to anything at all. Just sat on the shelf, with the mounting bolts inside. At this point we would like to mention that it was quite disappointing that after noting it both with the travel agent when we booked the Hyatt and also once in an email of our own to the property, that we didn’t have a bottle of champagne or card in the room, let alone a “Happy Anniversary” at the check-in counter. That was really too bad as it could have gone a long way to start the trip off more positively. POOLS / BEACHThe Hyatt take-over included a re-design of the centre area of the property with new pools. Overall it looks good, but they are crowded and noisy as families and games / activities take place there. The pool in front of original tower is small, covered by trees and does not permit much sun or view of the ocean. It is also used for weddings which means there’s a good chance you’ll get kicked out for private functions at any time. The “Adult Only” pool is the best as you look out over an infinity edge onto the ocean just in front which is absolutely beautiful. Downside however is the pool is no bigger than a backyard in-ground pool and they cram so many chaise lounges on the deck that you have to come off the end of the chaise because they sides are so close together with your neighbour – okay if you’re family, not so much with strangers. The beach and water are great. (Certainly not the Hyatt’s fault but worth noting was that the Jelly fish were brutal this trip with all of us getting stung not just mornings as is usual in some areas of PV, but throughout the day, each and every day. Some of the stings were pretty nasty leaving red welts for days.) We do have to say that the tower construction was especially noticeable in the beach and pool areas as the tower faces out onto them. Between the sawing, jackhammering, chipping and other sounds with the patio doors fully open on each and every suite being worked on, the constant noise went from being a mildly annoying background sound to full-on drowning out conversations and extremely frustrating. FOOD / BARSThe buffet was good, and typical with breakfasts having everything you would expect, lunch about the same and dinners so-so. The Asian, Steak, and Italian Restaurants were all very good after repeat visits and different dishes tried between the 4 of us. The Mexican restaurant unfortunately though, was not as good and we left after a few bites of each plate. Room service foods were very good no matter what was ordered, or at what time.As mentioned earlier, the Cub Level Bar was closed and moved up to the common area of the lobby. A hand-written sign welcomed you to the area and once inside, off to one side there was a few bottles of various liquors that was the “top shelf” stuff which was basically the same as other resorts. We were very disappointed that Baileys was not available ever, but knock-offs were promoted as such. We were glad to see they had Hennessy VSOP but had one awful experience with it one night as it was either watered down or had been poured earlier to serve someone else with ice and left, and re-served. Whatever the reason, it was clearly not straight from the bottle. The rest of the time it was fine. We also had a heck of a time getting snifters for beverages. One night we were literally told that one member of our group “already had the snifter”. The only other disappointment for alcohol was there was no Corona, Pacifico or Sol on resort – all Dos Equis. The final notation about this bar area was how truly uncomfortable ALL the seating was. Seat cushions were well past serviceability and flat no matter what piece you sat on and some outside benches were actually wooden. Not a great way to wrap up a night at a top resort.SERVICEThis is truly where this resort does shine. Almost without exception, all of the staff we interacted with were professional, friendly, funny, excellent at their job and so welcoming to all of our family at all times. We wish we could name everyone, but we would like to highlight a few standouts for recognition by management (we apologize in advance for any misspelled names and those we forgot):• Hector at Italian Restaurant• Buffet – Bryan, Rosendo, Brandown, Rueben (servers) Capitana Susy and hostess Arali• Beach Bar - Bartender Joaquin and Christian and Jesus (Servers)• David and Thanya at Club Lounge• Saul at Asian Restaurant• Issac and Therise on front desk• Each and every one of the beach servers who worked tirelessly in the blazing sun to make our stay even more amazing.OVERALL:While we certainly understand the need to update properties, there should have been a better balance in the price for the Club Level tower and amenities during construction. If the property did not want to close the tower entirely and lose the revenue, it should have at the least either warned customers at booking so they could decide to continue, or offered a reduced rate. To charge a premium for a product which was not, is surprising for a Hyatt product and frankly unacceptable. Again, the complete lack of acknowledgement for our 30th anniversary from the Hyatt was truly disappointing, especially when we know the kids also brought it up to staff more than a few times. We have stayed a lower end resorts that were amazing with acknowledging our anniversary each year. Taking 4 adults to this property, tipping every round of food and drinks, top family photo package on the beach – it was not a cheap adventure. Hyatt dropped the ball badly. It’s very unfortunate that our requests to speak directly with the general manager were not accommodated while we were there, as we would have preferred to discuss our experiences with him directly so he could at least be aware of the things pointed out here before writing this review. With all of the negatives said, overall we were impressed with this resort – enough so that as soon as we got home, we cancelled our 2 week February booking at another hotel in PV and booked this one again for that same time period. We look forward to the experience being even better with the (hopeful) conclusion of construction in all areas and also see what they do make up for the missed opportunities of this trip.
Hyatt Ziva was THE SPOT for our family wedding. The staff was incredible and responsive to our needs. The food was so yummy. The ocean was so clear and mellow, it was great for the little ones to swim in and be on the kayaks.
Just came back from Puerto Vallarta. We had a wonderful time at this resort.Food 9/10. Blaze restaurant offers the best food at this resort. Buffet is very limited. Staff 8/10. Some staff are wonderful and very kind; Edgar from the activities areas was incredible, the hostess at the Mexican restaurant was the friendliest person at this resort. Others were okay; some waiters at the restaurants not even introduced themselves and seemed to hurry taking your order. Beach 10/10. As always, Mexico has the best beaches in the world. Resort 8/10. Under renovation. Room service 10/10. Spectacular. Overall, I had a good time at this resort.
We absolutely LOVED the Hyatt Ziva! We have stayed at many all inclusive resorts and this one has been the best yet! The resort size was perfect for our party of 16(ages 69 to 4)to have plenty of room to roam but also quaint enough to always be close by. Edgar and Carlos in activities made our stay that much better with their fun personalities and smiling faces all the time! Virginia was awesome as our beach waitress and always kept the drinks flowing. The food was awesome at all the restaurants, but we especially enjoyed Pureza and Blaze. We would highly recommend this resort to vacationers of all ages!!! Top notch!
