Now Amber Resort and Spa
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
The Now Amber is a new resort located close to the Malcon in Puerto Vallarta. The rooms are hightlight of this resort, modern, clean and with room service included as an all-inclusive feature! An upgrade to a swim-out suite is well worth the cost. A good choice for a higher-end family option in Puerto Vallarta.
Perfectly situated within close proximity to the historic sights and sounds of downtown Puerto Vallarta, Now Amber welcomes couples, singles, friends and families with all the privileges of Unlimited-Luxury. Each suite, finely-equipped with quality amenities and contemporary decor will showcase stunning golden sand beaches and picturesque bay views. Select suites offer direct swim-out access to a crystalline, private pool.
Location: 15 minutes from the airport and 5 minutes from downtown Puerto Vallarta and romantic zone of Old Town and Cuale River walking shore.
- Great room, especially the swim-out suites.
- Friendly service, especially the staff in the buffet.
- Room service included as an all-inclusive feature.
- Close to the airport for short transfer times.
It's impossible not to compare this all-inclusive with the only other one I've been to. There are things I like better about NOW Amber and some I like better about Royalton Riviera where we stayed in Cancún this time last year. I'd call them both a pretty even, solid 4 Stars. The Good Things: All of the employees we encountered were friendly and professional. We fell a bit in love with Ephram. He sells tequila and works in the Mexican restaurant. He's a charmer. Always remembered our names. The room was clean and nice. We had an ocean view that was really worth any extra. They have some super fancy rooms, but we basically sleep there and hang out on the balcony listening to the waves. The rest of our time is spent in the pool or having drinks in the lobby overlooking the ocean. The pools were very nice as well. To be honest, we sneaked over to the Secrets which adjoins the NOW Amber property. Their pools are adult only. Nobody seemed to mind too much. The bathrooms near the pool deck are far superior on the Secrets side, too. The beach is beautiful. The waves were really high when we were there. It was like watching a show. We'd watch the waves while swimming in the pool. Perfect. We got so lucky considering all the hurricane activity this month. Our weather was hot and sunny every day, making the pool the best place to be. It would rain for a bit each evening, then go back to clear skies for the nighttime. The Less Good Things: The food is just okay. The Mexican food and the hibachi restaurant were the best meals we had there. Nothing was bad, but nothing was spectacular. You can't eat at the Secrets restaurants without a reservation, but the menus are practically identical to the NOW restaurants. As with ALL all-inclusives, they water down the alcohol. I am fine with that. I don't need to be dead of alcohol poisoning at 11 a.m. That being said, if you do sneak over to the grownups side, ask Octavio at the swim up bar to make you a Spiderman. ;-)I expected some decent bath products so I didn't bring my own. The shampoo was a shampoo/conditioner combo that made my hair feel like straw when I got out of the shower. Their shower gel was okay. I didn't use their lotion. If I were to come back to this property, I would bring my own shampoo and conditioner.Another small gripe is that the pillows were really lumpy. Both beds had lumpy pillows. Hardly a deal-breaker, but it detracted from my comfort. The entertainment was quite less professional than the entertainment we saw in Cancún. I don't exactly register this as a complaint though because watching the Mime was probably the most unintentionally hilarious experience of my life. I highly, highly recommend the Comedy show, especially if you're a little tipsy. Despite the small complaints, this is a very nice property, beautifully situated, with outstanding employees. I would recommend it to anyone, especially people traveling with families.
We just returned from a 4-day trip with several couples celebrating a 40th b-day. First, if you are traveling with adults only go to adjoining Secrets property. It has a much better vibe, service is a step up, experience just better. We ended up negotiating day passes for our entire stay so we could hang by the pool at Secrets, use restaurants, etc.You can make reservations for Secrets restaurant before 3 p.m. We had our entire group at Oceana one night in the upstairs area and it was amazing. Like being in our own private home.As far as NOW Amber goes, we have traveled to several all inclusives in Nuevo Vallarta (Nayarit), Cabo and Puerto Morelas near Cancun as well as Jamaica. This was meh. Would I return? Only if I went next door to Secrets for the adult only short trip.CHECK INSeamless and quick; greeted us with drinks - again the Preferred Club seemed to b the way to go. We booked through Costco and honestly, didn't even realize we had the preferred club but was glad we did!!ROOMSBeautiful, we had Preferred club ocean view and this was great. We were in a separate tower which had food in the lounge area pretty much all day and a bar on the 2nd floor that made great Cadillac margaritas - thanks Eduardo! He was great. The rooms had jacuzzi tub on the lanai/patio as well as inside. The rooms were way nicer than the Riu Palace where we stayed in the summer with family but we really didn't spend much time in the rooms. Preferred Club comes with free entrance to the spa Hydrotherapy treatment which is cool - also with ironing, golf and other things we did not use.BEACHGross. Period. Could have been the storm but it was brown foamy. My husband went in and there was garbage like plastic bags, etc. floating in the sea. The beach was very rocky and we are not wimps. We usually love boogie boarding and swimming. I felt like I would have gotten a staph infection.POOLSWe were there over Mexican Independence Day weekend which could be why it was so crowded but it was packed. People claiming chairs way early, kids everywhere, pool near the swim up bar was super dingy by the end of the day. RESTAURANTSMeh. I have never in the ten years we have been visiting all inclusive resorts had to wait for the breakfast buffet. As in they had a 15-20 minute wait. Same with the lunch restaurant which had a 20 minute wait when we got there and was so tiny. The day we arrived we ended up eating in the Preferred lounge. Umm no. Once we got our passes we went next door to Secrets Day 2-4 and it was a much better experience. Breakfast Buffet was fresh and less crowded/better quality of food, got lattes delivered to our table, service great. Oceana and Himitsu were good - not great, but okay.NIGHTLIFEDidn't really see any shows perse when we were there. We did hit up the nightclub - which was in the teen kids club area because Desires was being renovated. It was fun, dj music and dancing - who doesn't have a party when you have 14 people! Third night they had set up in the convention center which was not perfect because of all of the fake smoke machines pumping in there. Couldn't breath so left.FITNESS CENTERThe biggest and best fitness center I've seen at an all inclusive resort - also on the Secrets side near the spa. Plenty of free weights, machines, stairs, elipticals, bikes, etc. stretching area with balance balls, mats, etc.We had a great time but it would have not been so great had we not been able to use the Secrets side of the resort. I don't think I we would come here with our kids (12 and 15) either because of the beach, the slow restaurants and the crowds. I'd recommend Nayarit for better swimmable beach area.
My girlfriend and I recently stayed at Now Amber for a week and couldn't have asked for a better stay. From the minute we showed up to when we left, the customer service was unbelievable. Every single employee from waiters, housekeeping staff, the concierge, and bartenders were friendly, helpful, and went out of their way to ensure we were enjoying our stay. In particular Jose Maria in the preferred club bar was fantastic and one of the best bartenders I've ever been around. The hotel felt very new and was remarkably clean. The food was also great and much better than what we were expecting. Would absolutely come back here to stay anytime.
I enjoyed Now Amber with my husband and daughters. My favorite part was the tennis with Salvador, the tennis instructor! He really improved my tennis form. I am not crazy about the hotel's fake grass court and it would be better if it was asphalt, but at least the hotel has tennis. I have been to many other all inclusives that don't have a court or if they do, no one is there to offer clinics and instruction. Salvador's expertise and teaching style give me reason to come back... and I will! I will bring my tennis friends with me!
When I originally booked an all-inclusive resort, my husband was skeptical to say the least. On the last day he said (& I quote) "I would come back here just because of the people." We had an absolutely FABULOUS time at the NOW! Amber in Puerto Vallarta. From check-in to check-out we had nothing but incredible service. Every restaurant had delicious food, the waiters at the pool, especially Fernando & Juan who absolutely made our days perfect, & our son really enjoyed the kids club. The day before our last day Fernando made us feel so special with a "Have a Nice Trip" dessert surprise because our true last day was his day off. Then, on the morning of our last day, Juan brought out my husbands favorite tequila & popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate along with our son's favorite (Shirley Temples). I cannot put into words how much the service of the pool staff (Fernando, Juan, Daniel the bartender, Israel, Carlos, and Iorge) made our trip the absolutely perfect family vacation. With a 4 year old it doesn't matter how hot it is or if there's a rainy day - all he wants is to go down the slide over and over and over again. Between Juan and Fernando - mommy and daddy were happy all day long as well!! Be prepared to dress a little more formally for dinners in the hotel restaurants - most require men to wear long pants and a nice shirt. Our son loved looking "handsome" and eating sushi each night & then he would go to the Explorer's Club for the evening movie. Claudia was so kind & our son just loved spending some of his time there. It was really nice to be able to take him & pick him up whenever worked with our schedule. We decided to vacation during "rainy season" in Puerto Vallarta. Although some families were unhappy that we had two days that drizzled rain, we were totally content. We left the property twice & felt safe the entire time. I recommend this resort for a romantic vacation as well as a family vacation, and going in rainy season was delightful. There were less people at the resort & we never had any waits plus the waiters became our friends by the end of the week since it was their "low season."
