Check-in was a little hectic. There were a few weddings scheduled and the limited number of flights means guests arrive at the same time. Concierge services does their best to make you comfortable in the interim. All rooms have an an ocean view, and a small terrace. The room had an odor, mostly due to extreme moisture and humidity. You can request a dehumidifier, or bring back a couple of pounds of moisture in your suitcase. All in all, the location, the customer service, and the ambience equates to a pretty great break away from the everyday hustle and bustle of your life. We enjoyed the on site restaurants, performances, and services. Don't get so comfortable you forget to go out and see Puerta Vallarta! The onsite travel service is convenient and has a great selection of tours. Take the city tour to get a great day trip into the mountains, and catch Rhythm of the Nights (in the jungle, visited by boat).Yes, I would go back!
Where do I start. The room was musty and mildew smelling. They blame it on the humidity of the city, but after going through three other rooms, we found one that was not mildew and musty. My sheets were dirty. One night I had a blood stain on my sheet, called at 10:45pm and the made arrived at 12:15am. The food is good, the front desk staff is AMAZING. I absolutely love the bartenders but Now Amber is definitely not the 5 star that RCI gave it. You will have to have a humidifier in your room, better ask for two to rid your room of the humidity. We asked the maid staff to empty the humidifiers and she came, but dumped the water in the bath tub. The humidifiers fill up quickly so after awhile, we had to learn to empty them ourselves. The fridges are never stocked. The entertainment is not the best! We went to the spa and money was taken out of my mother's locker. I love Sergio, Luis, and Eduardo (by way of Cali and several other cities), but this was a bad intro to our first time in Puerto Vallarta.
We had an amazing vacation from beginning to end. We were traveling with my dad, step mom and my 8yr old son and celebrating mine and my dads birthday. We arrived on a Saturday after traveling on a 6am flight from NYC.The staff was very welcoming, warm, friendly and accommodating. We checked in with ease and convenience and were able to wait for our rooms in the open space lobby where we were offered beverages and given info on the fastest snack/meal we could get.We met Felipe in the lobby who offered us deals we could get on several activities. We had some trouble getting to the resort and Felipe helped with trying to resolved it. It was nice being greeted by him during our stay there. There were several other staff member in the reception team that went above and beyond. MariCruz ( MariLuz) aided us in booking our spa appointment and made sure we had everything we could possibly need. The one resort employee that went way above and beyond was Leonardo (Leo) from the unlimited vacation club. He took care of my parents from beginning to end. My stepmom misplaced her glasses at some point and although they were never recovered Leo made sure the entire staff was on alert if they turned up, he even let her borrow his reading glasses as well as purchased an otc pair to help her get around during our stay. Anything we required during our stay we knew we could call Leo, a very hard working, honest, genuine person. Leo also went on a sunset cruise with us to ensure we got around and seemed to enjoy the time with my family. Leo made sure we got the most of out trip, my son would even spot him at the resort and shout out his name. We will never forget this vacation and have a lot to thank him for, we will definitely be back. Neil and Mario from the resort also made sure we were always having a great time and had everything we needed. The entertainment staff was amazing and by the end of the trip knew my father by name or as "superman". Despite the passing showers and storm that seem to come at the same time every evening there were always activities to do. We saw a comedy show in the amphitheater, we also caught the light show by the pool and the fire show near the main lobby. The pool was our favorite and although we sometimes had to get up early to claim our spot on the days that we didn't we could always manage a spot. The barefoot grill at the pool is very convenient for kids who love being poolside all day, the chefs on the grill were great and always willing to cook something they were out of. I asked for guacamole one time and they were out only to have the chef himself come hand deliver it to me poolside. We took a boat ride to Yelapa and snorkeled and kayaked through Vallarta Adventures which was also a great experience and went on a tequila tasting tour. The hotel rooms were amazing, on one side we had the beach view and as we walked out of the room we enjoyed a view of the town and mountains. The rooms were very spacious and clean, absolutely no complaints. The restaurants were all amazing, Tamarindo was our favorite. We did not like the fact that we were not allowed to dine inside at the Asian restaurant because we had a kid with us, not very friendly at all.My son made so many friends at the pool and explorers club. He teared up on the way to the airport because he did not want to leave. (fyi, explorers club pager doesn't not work at secrets or the spa)Otherwise, this was an excellent vacation. We would definitely recommend this resort!!!Thank you Leo and the entire Now Amber team, we will be back!--the Lopez family (Mario, Margie, Apryl and Aurum)
We stayed at Now Amber for our honeymoon 8/7-8/14. We were a little nervous because August is part of the rainy season in Mexico, but we had amazing weather! It was sunny hot, and humid during the day- perfect for laying out by the pool, swimming in the pools, and enjoying the swim up bar! And when it would rain, it would start around 6pm and go into the night and be done by the time we woke up. We cannot say enough about the staff at Now Amber. They were all so nice and accommodating! The resort has so much to offer- several restaurants (including a buffet) and bars. There is a cute coffee shop with amazing coffee. They have shows every night. There are four pools (including one swim up pool) on the resort. My husband and I did go over to the Secrets side (next door) to use their swim up bar a few times, as that is an adults only. The fitness center is large, which an area for weights, cardio machines, weight lifting machines, and an open area for yoga, stretching, or cardio workouts. There are several gift shops between Now Amber and Secrets (including an ATM which was nice!). The resort is about a 10-15 minute ride from the airport and about 10-15 minutes from downtown. There was never a time that we felt unsafe on the resort. We had a great time and would recommend this resort to others!
We love Mexico and continue to book our vacations there. We have stayed in many all-inclusive Hotels, and Now Amber is one of the top. I would rate the hotel above the Riu chains that we have stayed at. It is a smaller hotel and resort than we have ever been to, and we were told that it is 6 years old this year.We liked the fact that it was only a 15 minute drive to our hotel from the airport. If going in the summer, remember, it is hot, hot, hot! We had booked with AirTransat and were put in a taxi from the airport. Due to this fact, unlike other stays in Mexico, we didn't get a rundown of the resort, or other important information. We were winging it the whole week with having to keep bothering the front desk with questions, and had to call a number to find out when to get picked up at the end of our stay to go back to the airport. There was no Air Transat Rep at the hotel at all, even though we were told that there would be.Upon arrival to Now Amber, we noticed right away that we didn't need wristbands. We were a family of 4, 3 adults,( one 19 yr old, and 16 yr old). This created some problems for restaurants as some were for adults only, so we had to divide and conquer so all the adults could experience them throughout our week stay. We arrived at about 1 pm and waited until 3:30 to go to our rooms. An employee nabbed us right after check in at the counter, and told us she would give us a rundown of the hotel. She seemed eager to 'help us,' but we soon learned it was all about giving us 'free' coupons for services that you would then have to pay on top of. Things like massages, they quoted upwards of $200.00, but only $100 with the coupon...insane prices!!! She then tried to talk us into 'an information meeting' the following day, which we saw through as a Time Share, and when we called her on it, her demeanor changed right away and she wasn't so friendly anymore...lol...she got my husband to sign a form, which I told him to read first, but it was all in Spanish. It showed different credit card options. We told her we didn't want to sign it, but she said, "No, you need to sign, but nothing gets charged." I still have no clue what it was all about, and we will question any charges to our card if anything seems suspicious. We had asked for 2 rooms close together, but we were put on different floors. We did get nice ocean views, and were put away from the elevators as requested. The rooms are breathtaking and decorated nicely. My husband's and my room had lots of black hair in the Jacuzzi tub, and we called housekeeping right away, who took care of it within 15 minutes. There was also black hairs on the bed duvet. Our children's room had 2 pocket lights out in the main bathroom area, which also got resolved pretty quickly. Loved the full sized bottles of shampoo, body wash and body lotion. Always refilled as needed, same with towels, and bar fridge. I brought my own hair dryer which I would recommend as the power of theirs wasn't good at all.Room service food is wonderful and presented nicely, just takes awhile to arrive. Up to an hour or more so order sooner than later. The biggest downside to our trip was the beach. So rocky and a very small area of sand. The rocks really hurt your feet. We had read in prior reviews about getting water shoes, but then thought it couldn't be that bad. Its bad...they are not stones, but thousands of rocks! We also did not like the vendors disregarding the rope lines and hovering right above you every few minutes while you were sunbathing, trying to make a sale. What a turn off. We spent the rest of the week poolside.Make sure to get your chairs poolside asap! They go fast, especially under the umbrellas as it is extremely hot. Also, unless you put a bag or shoes on the chairs with your towels, staff will come around and take towels off of chairs, even if you are just in the pool, or doing poolside activities that they encourage you to do! That's no reason to lose your chair. Hugo was a fantastic poolside server! Genuinely nice and would try to get to know us. Spot on! There was one other main server who was pretty inattentive, or would only ask if we wanted drinks when my husband was with me, but if I was alone, he would bypass me. Well, considering that I held the tip money; his loss, Hugo's gain.***Mario was the best activities co-ordinator! The best! He was always cheerful and got people involved, which broke up the day and made it really enjoyable. His energy was contagious, and you could tell that he not only loved his job, but was very good at it. We had the best time, because of him. The day he was off, we noticed a huge difference right away to the activities and the duration of them.; just not the same. Shout out to Mario! Mario! Mario!!!!!!****Make sure men to pack long pants for some of the restaurants. Some men wore jeans and running shoes and got in. We saw many men turned away who had nice shirts and dress shorts, but yet women with old, cut off, jean shorts, or one lady wore pajama pants, were allowed to go inside. Not okay to have different standards. The French restaurant on the Secrets side, the Bordeaux(?), was terrific. I went one night with my eldest, and the service and food was fantastic, and the next night with my husband. Funny thing was, with my husband, the portions were smaller for the same food than the night before, and the service took twice as long. Also, we were not given many of the drinks we ordered, and had to reorder. Even with some air conditioning, most restaurants were very hot and muggy. Dress very light if going in August! It rained all but one day, but only at night and for a very short duration. Service varies from day to day as well as consistency of same drinks. Some days really watered down, some days, amazing. We went into town one day, but really wanted to skip the excursions and just relax. One couple we met did a hiking excursion and she got eaten alive by mosquitos, even after spraying with a deet spray, and she went to see the hotel doctor. We only got a few bites poolside, more towards late afternoon. The shops in the hotel for jewellery, clothes, souvenirs are way overpriced so don't waste your money. Bring lots of your own suntan lotion, meds and such as the prices in the hotel are ridiculous! We felt very safe at this resort, and had no real issues at all. Night performances were amazing and professionally done. We really enjoyed them.Overall, besides some little things, which overall are just that, 'little things,' we loved Now Amber, and would definitely return.
