Overview
Playa Los Arcos is a charming colonial hotel designed and tastefully decorated to reflect the style of the Mexican "Haciendas" of a 19th century.

Location: Directly on the beach in Old Puerto Vallarta. Approximately 25 minutes from the Puerto Vallarta airport.

It was ok

The hotel sign states it is a 4 star, but it's clean and 3 at best. Service was good and the location is the best thing about the hotel. Very convenient to the Romantic Zone, and central. Room was is need of a renovation. Lots and lots of kids. Nice to be able to use the other 2 Sister properties amenities as well.

"Loved the All-Inclusive Program Here"

This is a very family-friendly hotel in a perfect location. One step off the hotel doorstep and you are on the malecon, and cross the malecon and you are on the sandy beach. Beach services are provided that will set up your place in the sand with a private umbrella, lounge chairs, and a serving table. They do this all day long at no charge, although a tip is nice for the hard-working staff that set you up. There is more limited seating around the pools since they are in a relatively small area. Families get set up early by the pool and don't leave until sunset. However, you will not have a problem getting a spot on the beach or on your own very nice balcony. Also, you can sit in the hotel restaurant with a cold drink and people watch the malecon all day long.We chose the AI package because the price was so reasonable. We knew we would eat out at some of our favorite restaurants within a short walk of the hotel, but thought the package would pay for itself in drinks and some meals at the buffet. The package easily did just that. The buffet food is tasty, hot, and attractively presented. Fruit and fresh vegetables are always available. The main courses are beef, pork, fish, and chicken presented in some sort of casserole. They are good, but repetitive. Breakfast offerings can be made to order by a hard-working cook at the grill. Various grill offerings are done daily like tacos and grilled shrimp - excellent!Drinks are included in the program if you stick to the "national drinks" and standard bar fare. We opted for a Cadillac margarita one day, but had to pay the hotel menu price (actually one half of it), so it was about $3 usd. Service is excellent in the hotel restaurant and out at the beach. Anywhere else in the hotel you will have to get your own. All service was polite and efficient. The maid service was equally good. Our room was cleaned promptly every day. We got two bottles of water left by the maid. Towels were plentiful, but there are no washcloths or tissues. When we arrived, we were taken to a "very good room" on the top floor. We were very happy with it until we went into the bathroom and the toilet was leaking all over the floor. We reported it to the desk and he quickly offered a room two doors closer to the beach. While we were moving our clothing, two maintenance persons showed up and had the leaking toilet out of the room within minutes. It was the fastest we have ever seen maintenance personnel respond in a Mexican hotel. The room, by the way, was classified as a "superior double room." We weren't sure what that meant, but it was an ocean and pool view room with an enormous balcony. The floor of balconies for the most part provide shade for the balcony below your room. Because we were on the top floor, we did not have a balcony above us and thus no shade. It is a minor point, but without shade you will not be able to sit on your balcony during the hot parts of the day. We did enjoy our morning coffee every day on our balcony though. This hotel is very family friendly, and there are lots of them. There was probably 90 percent Mexican families, which we very much enjoyed. If you are not into a lot of children having fun in the water, you can escape to one of the associated hotels a half block down the street, which I believe are adult only. This hotel is not new or ultra modern. I rated it highly because it was such a pleasure to stay here and it satisfied our needs so well. The staff is excellent and the location just can't be beat. This is old town Puerto Vallarta at its best!

Perfect location and so very affordable

This hotel was great. Nothing super fancy, but well appointed, and with friendly staff. The location is perfect - away from the all inclusive resorts of Nuevo and the bustle of Downtown - safe and with lots of cute restaurants and shops nearby. An ice cream shop (open til 11pm!) is about 1-2 blocks away - yum! Lots of kids in the pool, so a bit noisy during the day, but it is quiet by 10pm every night. Beach has chairs for guests (no you don't have to pay) so its small part of the beach is a bit less populated than the surrounding public areas, which is nice. Easily walkable to all cool shopping and downtown spots - right on the boardwalk. Felt very safe. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone - especially those on a budget. Rooms smell a bit mildewy but that's typical for tropical regions. Just air it out as much as possible. Great spot!

Playa Los Arcos a Safe Bet in the Romantic Zone!

My daughter and I spent a very enjoyable 5 nights at the Playa Los Arcos Hotel last month. We have no complaints: the room was always clean, maintenance came quickly on two occasions when needed, and the location on the beach was perfect. I recommend booking directly with the hotel as we were given the room we requested: higher level facing the swimming pool. The hotel is within walking distance to everything in the Old Town/Romantic Zone. I do recommend not getting the All-Inclusive option; although we did enjoy the buffet breakfast on two mornings, there are too many wonderful restaurants in the area to only eat at the hotel. This hotel is very popular with families; in fact, in the afternoon the pool scene can become a bit chaotic. We did not spend any time at the pool as we preferred the beach. However, we made use of the pool at the top of the nearby Hotel Casa Dona Susana on Sunday (There is currently construction next door, so other days will be noisy). It is a small pool but there were only a few other guests in the lovely area and a waiter from Playa Los Arcos brought us a drink. Will I return to Playa Los Arcos sometime with my husband? Probably not as PLA is definitely a family hotel.
