Our Opinion

The Plaza Pelicanos has a true Mexican feel to it. It's beautiful and recently renovated. The rooms are very simple; be sure to ask for an alarm clock at the front desk! The grounds are well kept. The pool is huge, with a swim-up bar, but the service there isn't so great. The restaurants have excellent service however, and amazing food. This hotel has virtually NO beach. There are no activities either. This hotel is more for R&R, and quiet clients looking for a basic, simple place to stay. The tower at this hotel is all timeshares, so watch out for timeshare reps!

Overview
Recently renovated to add facilities, the 4-storey Plaza Pelicanos is well-located on Playa Las Glorias, just north of Old Puerto Vallarta. The distinctly Mexican roof tiles and faade of the entrance set the tone for its laid-back, fun-loving, seaside style.

Location: On the Hotel Strip located in the hotel zone of Puerto Vallarta. The Beach Club section is just a 3 min walk to the beach. Approximately 10 minutes from the airport.

Very loud hotel with lots of kids

The hotel encircles the pool which is very loud with loud music always playing, kids screaming, water exercise classes and a nightly show 9:30-10:15pm every night. They start speaking over the loud P. A. at about 11am. People let their children run free and yell as loud as they want. There were gangs of kids - unattended by adults, running around the hotel being obnoxious. They would scream down the hallways, which are made of marble, so they echo. They would knock randomly on all the doors and run away laughing. This went on all day. We did later find out that a boys soccer match was this week, so maybe that's why there were so many kids. Still, a little hotel security roaming the halls would've been nice, especially after we complained. (And especially when you see staff in the lobby not doing anything.)I did like the fact that we had 2 different rooms with a full bathroom in each. No tub though in either bathroom. A little kitchenette was nice to be able to make eggs in the morning- just remember to buy salt and pepper. None of those sort of things are in the room.Overall the place in clean. Room a little musty smelling. But it just doesn't seem like their execution is very good. The beds are hard causing you to toss all night. Our bathroom door knob was falling off. Our first front desk person didn't take our credit card on check in so they had to call us to bring it down later. They got nervous if we charged more than 600 pesos to the room (=$60 US). "Welcome package" that they keep reminding you to ask for is just a lady that calls herself "the concierge" who really tries to sell you a timeshare and gives you a packet of tourist information, that we never read. And speaking of time share people- they will accost you every single time you come and go from the hotel. (They are in the lobby.) This alone is a reason not to stay here. Also I got sick the day after eating at their restaurant. (Had bottled water, but drank it with their ice and had a few bites of salad with my sandwich.)Side note- My friend who is Mexican said that I traveled during the week when Mexicans take their vacations, (not that this mattered to us.) May 1st is their Mexican Labor Day and May 5th is Cinco de Mayo (obviously).

Wedding in Puerto Vallarta

My trip started off terribly, delayed and cancelled flights and lost baggage. I arrived to Plaza Pelicanos and their excellent service was a breath of fresh air. We visited family members staying at a different resort and their service was nothing compared to Plaza Pelicanos. The location is perfect, just a very short (and cheap) cab away from the Malecon. There is a beautiful sky bar with amazing views and there are plenty of awesome spots to lounge around. I truly enjoyed my time in PV and the Plaza Pelicanos surpassed my expectations.

A week at Plaza Pelicanos Grand Resort in Puerto Vallarta

We spent a week at this resort in April of 2017. As we had never been there before and won the trip in an auction, we had limited expectations. It turned out to be a spectacular trip and we highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a very comfortable, clean, family friendly vacation. The facilities are great...a big swimming pool, a very comfortable room, a location right on the beach, a very friendly and helpful staff, very good food and located just a short bus ride from downtown Puerto Vallarta. Mr. Eladio Maturano Aguirre, the general manager, was very accessible and helpful. We could not have been more impressed with our time there.Dennis and Catherine Hamlett

Great friendly service, my 2nd home every winter

This has been my 9th year staying at the Plaza Pelicanos Grand Beach Resort and its like my 2nd home for 9 days. The price is very reasonable, the hotel and grounds are very clean, the waiter staff/bartenders all around are great super friendly; Gerry, Victor, Pedro, Yahir, Mario, are the best!! They make sure all of the visitors are happy and well taken care of. The location of the resort is perfect and you go walk to the malacon, or the bus is very close near if you want to experience that. The maid staff made sure our room was clean in a timely manner. All of the food was very good. Can't wait to go back soon.

Friendly, Understanding, Sympathetic and Caring Staff

We are so glad we chose to spend three weeks at the Pelicanos Grand - but our circumstances were not what you would wish for during a vacation. (Feb.18-March 11/17). We chose this small Resort and its location because we wanted to spend a quiet time relaxing and be able to celebrate our birthdays without any fuss (79 and 80). We had a lovely one bedroom suite on the fourth floor with an excellent view of the ocean and Mismaloya in the far distance. Our kitchen had everything we needed and we had many pleasant meals on our large balcony enjoying the view. We were within easy walking distance to the shops and local bus, and did lots of sightseeing and exploring our first ten days. Unfortunately our restful holiday came to an abrupt end when my husband became seriously ill on his birthday, was rushed into hospital and I spent my birthday two days later by his bedside and he didn't even know me! Six days later he was released and we prepared to return home. During this entire stressful experience I would not have been able to cope without the exceptional kindness and caring shown me by the Manager Eladio and, on his day off, Jaime. They made phone calls for me, loaned me their personal phones and sympathised when I couldn't get through to Airmiles to change our tickets, because I kept getting cut off. As soon as the Bellmen saw me they would summon a taxi to take me to visit my husband, and as this was such a stressful time for me it was so nice to come home to my "Pelicanos Family" after a day at the Hospital. A big thankyou also to our maid Sylvia, on the 4th floor. What a thoughtful surprise it was when Eladio presented us with two fancy birthday cakes to help us celebrate our missed birthdays! I am sorry for the delay in expressing our thanks for all you did, but I also became quite sick after returning home and now I'm pleased to say, we are both recovered. Hopefully we will be able to return again one day and thank you in person - the service you provided was exceptional.
