Our Opinion

The Plaza Pelicanos has a true Mexican feel to it. It's beautiful and recently renovated. The rooms are very simple; be sure to ask for an alarm clock at the front desk! The grounds are well kept. The pool is huge, with a swim-up bar, but the service there isn't so great. The restaurants have excellent service however, and amazing food. This hotel has virtually NO beach. There are no activities either. This hotel is more for R&R, and quiet clients looking for a basic, simple place to stay. The tower at this hotel is all timeshares, so watch out for timeshare reps!

Recently renovated to add facilities, the 4-storey Plaza Pelicanos is well-located on Playa Las Glorias, just north of Old Puerto Vallarta. The distinctly Mexican roof tiles and faade of the entrance set the tone for its laid-back, fun-loving, seaside style.

Location: On the Hotel Strip located in the hotel zone of Puerto Vallarta. The Beach Club section is just a 3 min walk to the beach. Approximately 10 minutes from the airport.

The staff is very rude

The staff is very rude at this resort not willing to help at all with anything we always got a huge attitude when we asked any type of question the concierges were so pushy and rude especially lupita. We travel to Pv 1 month out of the year and would never stay here ever again

If you don't want to be trapped at the resort ...

This is a 2nd review for the 2nd time staying here and it got better. We were placed in a room with a balcony this time and it was great! I'll be fair and state that I don't have unrealistically high expectations for what this property charges, so with that being said it is a superb value. This is a perfect place to stay if you want to leave yourself options. A quick bus ride or $4-5 cab ride downtown for dinner, sightseeing, shopping, combined with beachfront property and ALL INCLUSIVE. Most of all the staff is great all around with some sure fire standouts (Pedro, Victor, and Humberto). We returned here because the value is unbeatable and I researched online thoroughly. the nightly rate leave you enough pocket change to go out for dinner if you want to explore, eat with the locals, or just not feel trapped by the rate you pay for food that's picked for you. Like many other resorts they have themed nights for dinner and entertainment, but we prefer to head out and try different things once the sun goes down. Either way, it's great if you don't spend much time in your room and need to get out to see the city. This establishment proves that you don't need to spend a lot to get great service at a great price. The staff is attentive and always ready to help the guests. Our servers sought us out in the pool to make sure we were not in need of anything. They offered to bring us anything the resort offered and never once neglected us the entire time we were there. Stay here and you won't regret it, BUT don't expect a five star resort... just FIVE STAR SERVICE!

Great for the price

Very nicely maintained outside very clean. The food was great. If you are looking for a cheaper hotel with the family this is a great one. Not really a party hotel. The rooms are simple but clean. The staff was always very friendly.

They charged my twice and haven't paid me back

I really enjoyed my stay here, but I'm upset that they put me through this hassle of double paying. They promised to pay me back but I still haven't received it. It's been 2 weeks since Gustavo said they would.

Good Things Can Come In Regular Packages

First things first, this was a last second, unexpected trip for me and I needed it to be on the affordable side of my wallet, so Pelicanos Grand offered the best price.Having never been to Puerto Vallarta, I did not know what to expect and so here is my review.First off, as you exit the plane you will eventually enter an area with kiosk desks on either side and a number of folks asking you if you need a taxi or have a reservation pick-up. THIS IS NOT THE MAIN TAXI PICKUP AREA!! These folks will steer you to the kiosks where you will be told about all the wonderful things in Vallarta (and there are), but they want you to go to the time share meeting. I wasn't about the time share life, so I politely said "thanks no thanks" I need to get to my hotel. The actual taxi pickup folks are outside the airport.Second, don't get scammed on taxi fares- know the currency difference and use Pesos to pay, because you get shortchanged in the crossover.Third, Pelicanos was a good hotel with great service in a number of different cases and some head-scratching in others. I arrived in the last week before it was scheduled to shut down for renovations and it was obvious that some things were not going to be up to snuff. So here come the cons:1. No business/computer area as it was being re-done for the renovation and was shut down. Only two stations and the wi-fi was choppy and slooooooow at best. But, thanks to Dora from their IT department, she was able to get me the access I desperately needed to confirm a job interview and she went above boards to make sure I was going to have proper Skype access when I needed it. Big Shout Out to Dora for her help, she was awesome.2. Beach is about 50 yards from the hotel property to the water and the sand is rocky as hell. Also, its a rough ocean with a riptide pull and the water is not clear. It was clean though and there were about 5-10 regular artisan folks hawking their wares daily.3. SO MANY KIDS! If you are looking for private time with your loved one, this isn't the place. Also, relaxation- not so much. This resort/hotel caters to locals and families and this was made clear at the pool, like every day.Pros:1. Activity staff. Mario and his team were awesome. Daily schedule of activities and even the aquacise was fun. The nightly shows were impressive for this resort and broke up the evening perfectly. Can't say enough about Mario though, he was super cool and got everyone involved.2. Restaurant Staff. The lone "true" restaurant featured a rotating menu of Brazilian, Italian and Mexican menus. And while not every dish was the best, I found something that I liked. I was even able to sample multiple main dishes. Making reservations everyday at the buffet restaurant was not the hassle other reviewers make it out to be. The true star was Karen the hostess though. Pleasant, attentive, and professional, she made sure our dining experience was perfect. I was sad to say good-bye to her. There rest of the waitstaff guys were good too and they took care of us.3. Skybar and Fabian. How this spot on the eight/ninth floor got so little use during my stay baffles me. It was like a private lounge us and Fabian the bartender took care of us like VIP's. The views of Vallarta are stunning, the ambiance is romantic/cozy, and its a great way to end a night. We didn't use the jacuzzi's, based on some of the reviews I read, however, they didn't look as terrible as described in other reviews.Pool Staff. Pedro, Humberto, Victor and Martin from the towel cabana were top-notch and super-friendly. From day one they were ensuring we were never thirsty or hungry and are super funny and really cool/humble dudes. So my review is this. Don't go there expecting 4- star amenities and modern aesthetic. This is a local accessible resort that offers all-inclusive packages that you can work with. Take care of the people (tips) and they will take care of you. Be nice to them and you will find that there are humans behind those uniforms and they are pretty cool. Definitely go into the Malecon (7 pesos on the blue line bus) and eat at The Chata. I found that I was able to relax, make some connections, enjoy my time and come back relaxed. You can too.
