The Entertainment

Lalo, Fernando and Jesus were so welcoming and friendly. They made us feel welcomed and made us do all the different activities to enhance our visit to the resort. Without them, the vacation would not have been the same. Also, Miguel the bartender/ waiter was very good to us.

Old and dated!

The place is very old, elevator only worked one day when we there. It was either very slow, under repair or only one working. The place needs updating. Food was so so. It's only saving grace was that staff provided great customer service and the rooms and place was clean, that is why I am giving it a 3 star rating. Our maid did a great job everyday. Don't go in August because the place is mostly full of day customers instead of people who are actually staying at the resort.

Nice...Could Use Some Updating

Booked our stay through our UVC Membership from Oct 1st through Oct 7th (2 adults, 2 kids - ages 6 & 8) in the Family Deluxe Kids room. The resort was a short 10min (at most) drive from the airport. The entrance was nice and inviting. We were welcomed with drinks in the Sun Club which had great AC! With our membership, we qualified for a free upgrade to the next room category and inquired. Because of the room type we got which catered to the kids, they recommended not to take the upgrade since none of the other rooms had the amenities that the Family Deluxe Kids room had. Kind of made sense since that was the whole reason for booking that type of room, so we just went with it.Once checked in, we made our way to our room and to our surprise, had a welcome banner from UVC. Funny how such a little thing like that makes the stay more special and personalized. Our room had a king bed for me and my husband, and a bunk bed for the kids that was sectioned off in its own little nook. That's about where the good things about the room stops. There was an overwhelming smell of mold when you entered the room. Not quite sure if it was actually mold, or if the room was uninhabited for some time and that caused the air to be stale. The bathroom was okay and had great decor and fixtures, but the "open-style" shower was a mess. Seemed like the back end of the shower sloped down and away from the drainage so it overfilled and spilled over the 1/2" ledge and on to the bathroom floor. There were no vents for shower steam to escape. The room boosts a garden view, but all it was were landscaped bushes and the Explorer's Club wall. Our sliding doors to the terrace did not lock and was easily accessible from the outside. Another amenity that should have came with the room is the Wii game console, but that was nowhere to be found. At the end of the night, we noticed that the kids had no blankets at all, and had to call the front desk for some. The stairs of the bunk bed felt unstable and were very noisy. Also, the guard rail from the top bunk fell off in the middle of the night when my son kicked it during his sleep and hit my daughter sleeping on the bottom bunk. TV channels were mostly in Spanish. We started unwinding and decided to eat at the World Café - buffet style dining. It was right off the shore and had beautiful views. The food was okay. Not bad, but not to die for. The kids enjoyed the "Kids Corner" food choices. By the time we finished dinner, the pool was already closed, but the Entertainment Team had a fire show prepared. THAT. WAS. AMAZING!! Lol.The next morning, we went into the Sun Club to complain about the room's smell, no blankets for the kids, and lack of game console. Gina was very apologetic for the lack of kids blankets and told us that she would tell the front desk about getting the Wii to our room. Gina also let us know that the person who checked us in the previous day failed to tell us about a free UVC Members Only Sunset Cruise happening that night in exchange for us attending a refresher on benefits of our membership with breakfast the next day. We accepted and only had to pay for our taxi ride to the marina. (That cruise was a blast BTW! Gina was also on board the cruise and made sure we were well taken care of the whole night!) While we were still in the Sun Club, we decided to see the room option if we upgraded, and were taken to the 5th floor. It looked to be a Deluxe Ocean View room--according to their website, this is a room level DOWN from our current room. It had a better view, but it felt so much smaller. For an upgrade, we should have been shown a Deluxe Junior Suite Bay View. So disappointed and just kept our current room.We made our way to the pool! Great size and had a swim up bar. The kids only inflatable slide was a great addition, but the water was so deep (I'm 5'5" and still couldn't touch the bottom) we were unable to take our kids on that side. They did have a kids 3ft pool with a water slide by the Explorer's Club. We also went out and explored the beach. It's very rocky and recommend water shoes. Since we have access to the Sun Club - kayaks, body boards, and fishing poles were available for use for free. My daughter and I loved the kayaks! When we went back to our room to get ready for the cruise, still no Wii placed in our room. The next morning for our membership refresher, Alberto from the Sun Club took us the see Secrets Vallarta Bay (well, the outside since that is an adults only resort) and Now Amber. He was also great and gave us a great deal for membership upgrade. Part of the deal was to move us from Sunscape to Now Amber!!! We were informed that Sunscape was an older resort, built 30+ years ago - hence the outdatedness, but it will be going under renovations soon. Aside from the age of the resort, I believe service was great at Sunscape. It matches the service and friendliness of all AMResorts I've visited. Gina and Alberto's exceptional service saved my review about this resort. We stayed a combined 2 days.If you're looking for a budget friendly, charming hotel - Sunscape is the one for you. If you want a more modern hotel, look elsewhere.

Family Fun Getaway - Yes we would do it again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overall Hotel is older and they are remodeling and always cleaning. Food was a 6 out of 10. Staff is very professional and quality of service excellent. I can say out of the 3 UVC's hotels we stayed at this was far the best UVC special treatment and service as a member we have ever received. I can say as a family we all had a great time. We had the Great Grandparents with us, teenager and toddlers and we all had a relaxing and super fun getaway. We did the UVC Sunset Cruise and cannot thank the UVC enough for the fun experience. Our UVC Member Services was Estrella Puebla and we loved her. Estrella went above and beyond making sure everything was in place for our family outings and arranged for us to go the Secrets spa. Loved her - thank you Estrella Puebla, I'm sure you are going to continue to succeed in the UVC. Looking forward to our next UVC experience coming up soon at the Secrets, Cap Cana. I would most importantly return to the Sunscape, Puerto Vallarta for a family getaway. Low cost for exceptional service from the staff and Estrella Puebla.
