I had read on TA some complaints from people who had reservations for certain rooms types but didn't get described room. We had booked a Deluxe but got a Superior room. I talked with the front desk about this and they said it depends on what booking website you use to book rooms. The Deluxe room on the hotel website is a different category than if you book a Deluxe thru a booking website.Big shout out to Ana at the front deck. We were suppose to leave on Mar. 12th. Both my husband and I got sick. The hotel was pretty booked up. Ana worked her magic and were able to stay another three days in our same room...Thanks Ana.We dined more at the restaurant than we normally do because we both were sick during our stay. The food at the restaurants has definitely improved. Only had one bad meal, beef fajitas that had been overcooked...think jerky. Don't know why we didn't send it back to the kitchen. We tried just about everything else on the menu, chicken fajitas, tortilla soup, onion soup, tacos dorado, enchiladas, grilled chicken, salad, hamburgers, BLT. Good value with the exchange now. They have HH 5-7 but found their regular drink prices good. Small cocktails or glass of wine 50 pesos or around $2.50. Word for the wise if you don't like salt you might ask for “No Salt” when ordering your food.
I couldn't ask for a better hotel. The stay this year was as good as last year. The room we had this year was huge, with an ocean view (a superior room in the newest section). It is located perfectly - walking distance to the Malecon, nearby restaurants - - it can't boast a good restaurant itself, which is a shame because it has a perfect view. But with so many wonderful restaurants in the area, that didn't really matter to us. The price is incredible. $100 CAD/night for a superior room - - unheard of. The rooms are also immaculately kept and the housecleaning staff are thorough and so nice. My only complaint is the same as last year: The rooms need wifi access (which is only available in the lobby, pool, and sometimes the beach). For those of us who need to do some work while on vacation, this is a bit of a nuisance. This year I bought a data plan which solved the problem for me but it would be great if wifi were provided by the hotel. That said, I wouldn't stay anywhere else! Wonderful hotel.
Hi, I've being going to the Tropicana for several years and I always take a standard ocean-view room. Since they built that huge palapa over the bar, the view is seriously obstructed for customers of floors 1 to 5. It is too bad. They should remove it because most people demand a room change for the top three floors because of the obstruction, and many don't get it during their stay. They are also too strict about friends from other hotels visiting you at the hotel or even on the hotel's portion of the beach. They tell you they can stay only if they order drink or food. They are not allowed in your room. A little too strict! But it is a great and quiet place to stay in the heart of the old town.
If you want to relax and enjoy the beach and be within walking distance of a lot of what makes the old town a great experience than the Tropicana Hotel is an excellent choice. The staff was excellent in providing help when one of the people we were travelling with needed medical attention. On a daily basis the wait staff around the pool area and those who cleaned the rooms were friendly and great at doing their work. This made the overall experience even more enjoyable. Internet access has improved since our last visit but was only available in the lobby, restaurant, and pool areas.
If you're looking for a five star resort. This isn't it. BUT for the cost this place is amazing! Our room was clean, as were all the linens and towels, I was very impressed by the maid service - floors were swept and washed everyday, I don't believe that happens even at a five star all inclusive. Naomi at the front desk was very helpful and as there was a room available at our arrival we were able to check in a few hours early. The young man who came down each morning to bring out chairs was an absolute doll and by day two I didn't even have to ask anymore. As with any resort there's a rush to get your spot on the beach around 7am. There's lots of chairs for everyone, but the rush is for a palapa, this wasn't an issue for me as I quite enjoyed being on the beach early, before everyone else. There was bar service on the beach but it wasn't super consistent. Sometimes you saw them, sometimes you didn't. I loved that you could order buckets of beer and to grab it yourself was only a few steps off the beach and on the way to the bathrooms. Another option is a styrofoam cooler you can purchase for 88 pesos at the OXXO just down the street. The location cannot be beat. Basically right at the end of the malecon, you can walk the beach and end up at tons of great beachfront restaurants and then all the shops and bars. I have never stayed outside of the all inclusive resorts so I was a little unsure of this booking but it turned out to be AMAZING. If you're looking for a clean hotel with a great beach and the perfect location, this is it. Would absolutely stay here again.
