This was our second time staying at the Tropicana Hotel. This resort I believe was 5 separate properties that came together which would explain the difference in rooms. The economy rooms are the older, less desirable views and may not have ac. The superior rooms are better. My suggestion is to upgrade before you come, even though the front desk is very accomodating with the hotel full they wouldn't have many options. But if they can they will. The North tower is the most recently updated with the best views. In the North tower rooms with an even number e.g. 142,144.148 would be 1st floor facing the Los Muertos Pier. The higher floors e.g. 444,446,(fourth floor}540, 546(5th floor) the higher you go the better the view. The uneven numbers e.g. 141,145,147,445,447 etc. will have a view of the pool and ocean and the sunset. There is an elevator.I have also stayed in bldg above front desk which would be my second choice, good views on ocean facing rooms, updated, flat screen tv, This resorts biggest selling feature would have to be the location to Old Vallarta and everything it has to offer. They have pool/ beach service for food and drinks(100 pesos for 6 beer in a bucket) The restaurant is ok( if you have breakfast option they usually have a small buffet but they don't really advertise that you can order bacon and eggs to order, just ask wait staff).Ask cleaning staff for a mattress topper as beds are hard and small fridges and if available you will get one.As a little side note if you walk out the front door turn left and get to the corner there is a little restaurant that serves fresh squeezed orange juice and sandwiches that are cheap and delicious
Room was spacious. Bed was the usual firmness found at any mexico hotel. Newer a/c unit. If you are looking for all inclusive, this place is not for you. Wwe personally never spent any time there other than to just sleep and shower. Great location. Would definitely stay there again.
There for a weekend getaway. Front desk clerk was a jerk on check in and every day of our stay when we had a need or question. Lobby and grounds are gorgeous but don't let that fool you. The rooms are mediocre at best. bar/pool very nice - the beach area of the hotel is great. Terrific service, decent prices and fun to people watch. Disagree with the anti-gay sentiment. Saw lots of gay couples around us that were having a nice time as well. All of the other staff we came in contact with was terrific.
This was our first two week vacation. We've been to PV before, loved this hotel for the location, beach and pools aren't too bad. The 1st week our room was very outdated and no coffee pot, but you can get a pot of coffee after 8am downstairs and bring it up for 60-100 pesos (depends on the day...lol). The second week the room was a lot nicer and had a kitchen. A/C was great in both rooms:) We didn't eat at the restaurant, so I'm not sure about the food. Staff was very friendly, but beach service was very slow, if any at all. There is a ton of restaurants and stores right within walking distance and our favorite green juice lady 1/2 block away with a green umbrella outside. She said the name was called "Juice Speaking". You can also get lunches to go, if your planning any day trips! She's a must! ❤️
Tropicana Hotel is in a great location to many places in Zona Romantica in PVR. Although this part of town really caters to gay clientele, I found many families at this hotel. The staff seemed friendly to all guests. The hotel rooms are no frills for the most part. The mattresses are very firm and the pillows are pretty flat. I stayed in the towers side and had a beautiful balcony overlooking the ocean. The common areas are well kept and the hotel has a private beach area with palapas. The beach attendant will set you up with a beach chair if needed. It's a great way to relax. The biggest complaint I have is not with the hotel, but some pretty derogatory guests I overheard while on the beach. They were commenting about the "queers" and made fun of a skimpy suit someone was wearing. If you don't get anything from this review...get this...this area of PVR is Gay Friendly. If you're like me, this is all good. You WILL see men holding hands. You will see gay people. Three popular gay beach resorts are less than 500 feet away (Green Chairs, Blue Chairs, and Montemar). If you stay here, please be respectful to all those that are also here. If you are homophobic, go elsewhere...I hear they have good all inclusive resorts miles away.
