Place outside look great , so disappointed with the room . Ac didn’t work , shower clogged. Call for help and never no one showed in the room , and half of the electrics outlet and light did not work ... in the other side food was good decent prize , and bartender and server very friendly not so much the concierge and bell boys .

DO NOT STAY HERE. BED BUGS. BEWARE

WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE. I booked this hotel on Dec.20th and they could not find my booking so I had to pay twice and I'm still dealing with expedia to get refunded. I was willing to look past that because the price was decent and I liked the location. I stayed on room 501 and it was okay. I thought the breakfast was okay and the beer was cheap. People I met were nice and the restaurant staff was nice. I booked again on my way home dec.27th and it took an hour to check in AGAIN and the ladies at the front were rude. There was four of them behind the counter and only one person was helping people but none of this even compares to what happens next. I wake up the next morning (room 133) and I'm covered in bug bites. My ankles and elbows are filled with big welts and I've never been so itchy in my life. These bites are from BED BUGS and now I am mortified and so worried that I have brought them home that my luggage is currently in my back yard in -30 weather. I cannot believe this. NIGHTMARE. The first two photos are pictures of my bites. The last photo is to compare (photo off of google).

Bad plumbing, some old rooms, No WiFi

Rooms on second floor need to be updated. Plumbing was bad. Toilet had to be flushed many times before it worked. Shower was clogged and flooded the room. Had to tell cleaning lady twice before she came to clean it (after rolling her eyes)Also the AC on room 229 could only be turned on and off not able to adjust temp. No fridge or a coffee maker anywhere not even in the lobby. Sometimes we had leftovers that had to be thrown out because of this. I was charged $50 more than the posted rate because we were 4 people for my last night even though I had paid the cheaper rate the night before and we weren’t changing rooms or adding anything. Also not very good service at the hotel’s restaurant the fruit smoothies were so bad that the waiter admitted that he added granadine (color) to the strawberry smoothie to make it look like it had fruit after I questioned the fake color and non existent flavor. They do not use frozen fruit so the smoothies were not cold. Also the elevators are slow and small. One of them was out of order and only one was working at some point during our stay. We had to take the stairs to the 8th floor becuase it was so busy right before Christmas peak season. No WiFi in the rooms only in the busy lobby. It was definitely an inconvenience because we don’t party and it’s nice to communicate with family at night in the room instead of a lobby with lots of people and no AC.Room didn’t get cleaned until late afternoon. I would recommend playa los arcos instead. Even better location and set up for the same price. Also los Muertos is a public beach so you can stay pretty much anywhere downtown and save money as an example hotel Yasmin, la posada de roger are located very close to the beach and you pay a third of the price. I ended paying almost $170 December 23rd vs $64 at hotel Yasmin right next to takos panchos and 2 blocks from the beach

Clean, friendly, right on the beach!

Had a great stay at Hotel Tropicana December 4th thru the 9th. Check-in was easy and fast thanks to Noemi at the front desk, she was super friendly, gave us a few tips and pointers about nearby areas, do’s and dont’s and what to look out for. Overall Noemi made us feel extra welcomed! Room was very clean, (dated yes) but super clean. AC worked nicely as well as the ceiling fan the entire week. Our balcony had perfect beach front view, bed was firm but not rock hard as others have mentioned. I cant say enough about how friendly the entire staff was! From Noemi at the front desk to Chon, Carlos, Manuel at the restaurant/bar and everyone else in between. We enjoyed time at the pool but mostly sat on the beach with buckets of beer. Restaurant has inexpensive great breakfast choices, and we made sure to grab 2 for 1 happy hour drinks before walking into town for dinner. My favorite thing about this hotel is walking distance to the malecón, el muelle (pier), and so many yummy restaurants in old town puerto vallarta. There is a tiny mini market right across from hotel, where we purchased a small styrofoam ice chest, ice (.80 cents a bag), beers and water to bring back to our room. All in all this is our new favorite hotel in Zona Romantica Old Puerto Vallarta! Already planning our next trip!

A Gem in the rough

Hotel is a gem; right on the Los Muertes beach and close to Olas Atlas. Probably advisable to go for 'superior room' which are updated and tend to have ocean views. Included breakfast is basic but well-executed; make sure you tip to ensure prompt service. Plumbing had some quirks: toilet often had to be flushed multiple times, and water had a tendency to change temperature suddenly (but was HOT!). Front desk staff inefficient at check-in. General sense that the staff was underpaid/undertipped/unhappy but tips definitely brighten them up. The fab location and ocean view well made up for the minor complaints, especially at the price point!
