We choose this hotel for the good location and it did not dissapoint...the location was perfect for us :) so many restaurants and groceey stores and pharmacys and beach front and etc our standard room was clean with ocean view and saw fireworks for our window and beautiful sunsets...the hotel has 2 pools which we used every afternoon and the food at the restaurant by the pool was good and the servers were always great and nice ;) we had a really good and fun stay
So we all know bedbugs are a given in hotels. The thing that makes a difference is how you are treated as a guest. I recently spent seven nights at this hotel. One night in an upgraded room on night two became a nightmare for me. The front desk staff were less than helpful, however, on day 6 I finally got to speak to the manager who was lovely. She reimbursed my upgrade as well as my medical and laundry costs. The sad part is that this ruined my vacation and the lady who travelled with me. We were unable to go anywhere or do anything because of the reception staff who required us to check in several times a day for three days before we could speak to the manager. Here are some other facts:Wifi only in the lobby, no where else in this hotelOnly one hand towel in the room, I don't know if they don't use them.......The restaurant and bar does not know how to convert the money so don't use USDo not take your Amex to Mexico it is not acceptedDo not believe the stories about ATM's they are expensive and charge extra fees, take pesos or go to a bank when you get thereTake reef safe sunscreen, you can find it at dive shopsFeel free to ask questions
We stayed at the Tropicana for a fast, busy weekend in PVR. We had walked by the hotel numerous times but had never stayed. It is a very good hotel. There are some quirks but overall, I was happy and would come back. We did not get an ocean view room - we were in 401 - it is at the end of an open hallway. It was a large room with a refrigerator, gas stove top, a place to eat, some plates, silverware, pots & pans. The beds are Mexican hard but sleepable. The location is a little out of the way, but close enough to walk everywhere. The hotel and the rooms were very clean. There is only internet in the lobby area and the lobby is at sea level so it is down a flight of stairs (or elevator) from the street,.
Having several days left after a time share stay we decided to find a hotel in Viejo Vallarta on the beach.hotel Tropicana has a good location;on the beach, away from some of the noise late at night.the rooms vary;most are ocean view.ours had a kitchen, balcony, view and lots of space. The staff were efficient, though probably overworked. The bar and restaurants were average, good service and prices. We would probably stay there again.
I arrived at the Tropicana for a 10 day stay from March 20 to March 30. The following is my honest opinion of the property and the staff...I had emailed the hotel the week prior to my arrival requesting a room with an ocean view on an upper floor. They replied to my email, stating they could not guarantee either, even though I had paid for a superior room, so I was a bit anxious when I checked in. All for nothing...I was located in room 827 and it was perfect! Beautiful view of the ocean, refurbished bathroom, flat screen tv, clean and comfortable! Not fancy, but functional and exactly what I was looking for! The front desk staff were courteous and friendly. The pool area was also very nice. There was always someone around to help you with a chair, set up your umbrella, etc. I saw the pool being vacuumed and cleaned every morning around 7am. The beach area was also very nice. Again, there was always a staff member ready to help with chairs, etc. The vendors on the beach were all very friendly and respectful. A simple "no, gracias" was all that was required. I had breakfast included with my stay. It was sufficient, with a moderate selection primarily consisting of fruit, cereal, scrambled eggs, refried beans, a meat selection, french toast or pancakes. It was all i needed to start the day. The servers were friendly and usually quick to keep the coffee cup topped up.I had lunch a couple of times at the pool bar, and both times was quite good and reasonably priced. The location of the Tropicana is ideal for exploring Zona Romantica. Fantastic restaurants, bars, shopping, etc., all within walking distance. I often would walk down to the pier or to the Malecon. There was a nice variety of guests at this hotel...Mexicans, Americans, Canadians, families, young couples, older couples, gay couples, straight couples, singles (gay and straight). Everyone was friendly. As a single traveller, I met many nice people. Only having wifi in the lobby was a bit of a pain, but not a deal breaker. It was usually quick enough and not difficult to log on.I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Tropicana to anyone, or to stay here again. It's a nice place and reasonably priced. Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions. I'd be happy to answer them, if I can.
