Tropicana Puerto Vallarta
- What's Included
This popular standard hotel is directly on the beach within walking distance of downtown Puerto Vallarta. Located directly on Los Muertos beach in Old Puerto Vallarta, walking distance to restaurants, shops and nightclubs.
Location: Beachfront, 25 minutes from the airport.
I checked in to the Tropicana Hotel on January 30th having paid upfront for a three week stay. Due to illness I was required to check out on February 5 and return to Canada. The hotel refused to give any reimbursement for the two weeks I was not there and furthermore rented the room the next day. They made twice the rental. Not fair. Also, they do not allow family to visit. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone nor will I stay there again. Robert Blair

Family staying in another place, came to see my room, and told they are not allowed as they are not registered guests?! WTF! Also to my surprise, I have to wear a wristband while on the property. OK is this Disney for kids. I am an adult in my 50s. Also, this is not one of those all inclusive resorts, and why I selected old P.V. Hotel website states breakfast is 80 pesos, got to restaurant...Nope! 120 pesos. Room needs maintenance. Broken tiles, marks on walls, broken & old shower doors, mirror has rusted. I gave it a two because of location.
My family and I stayed in Tropicana in October and had a wonderful experience for our first time. However, our second stay was the deal breaker for us. First off, the AC unit in our room would make a banging noise at night! We then asked to be moved rooms however that didn't happen until 3 days later. The beds in our room were hard and uncomfortable so when we over heard a guest request a memory foam for her bed (which the receptionist gladly said yes) my husband asked about it but didn't really get an answer, all she said was "the beds in your room are better",but they weren't! So due to the change of rooms (because of the loud AC unit) we were told we had available credit (but were denied refunding) for moving from a bigger room into a smaller one. With the credit we were told we were able to purchase drinks and food. When my husband and I went down to the bar and ordered drinks we were told we had to pay for them. We then informed them about the credit, however we stood there waiting for about 15min while they made phone calls just so they could tell us that there was nothing stating that we had credit so we had to pay for them. I really liked the location of this hotel and the beautiful view, but they really gave us the run around which made staying here very stressful!!
I have been to Hotel Tropicana twice. This last time being my second time visiting with my family. We went out of our way to contact Tropicana via phone to reserve a room because all the online websites states there were no rooms available and luckily we were able to get a room for the time we wanted to stay. Upon arriving Friday the 3rd, the receptionist Ana seemed like doing her job was a burden. Once we received our room keys and went up to our room 138 we realized we were at the corner of the hotel on the street level and already can hear the commotion of the street and people hanging outside by the window yelling and revving there car engines. We immediately returned and asked if there were any other rooms that were cancelled or available to switch. We were advised to wait until Sunday to ask to switch rooms. Once Sunday came we were already over staying in the current room with the air conditioning waking us up in the middle of the night with a banging noise that went on for a little over an hour each night. The noise with the people and cars all night was frustrating. We advised the receptionist that we were told to ask to switch rooms on Sunday and their response to us was that they didn't understand why anyone would tell us that because there were no rooms available. I began to get so frustrated with them that I waited until Monday to talk to the Ana again about the information she gave me. She apologized and stated I can see what I can do for you. I advised her about the banging of the air conditioning and she said,"Did you open it and check it out?" I responded by telling her I'm on vacation and it's not the customers job to check why the A/C is making a loud banging noise. We were then transferred to a room on the floor that was smaller but a lot quieter. We were then told because we changed rooms that we were going to have a 900 peso credit but they weren't going to be able to refund the money. I then asked why the money couldn't be refunded especially if the room we were transferred to was way smaller than the one we were originally put in. She said because she did us a favor and she got chewed out by her boss that she wasn't going to refund the difference. I just wanted to enjoy my vacation so I just let it go. Another thing with the towel attendants. We had asked for some towels for the pool and the lady told us she didn't have any when right behind her there was a stack of folded towels. We had asked what about those and she ignored us. Overall this hotel is a cheap hotel with cheap service. You get an ok deal for being in a nice location but don't expect to be treated decently. The employees here especially the receptionists are miserable. The maids and service attendants are good people usually with a smile on there face. We will not be staying there again and nor will my friends or family because they have had similar experiences. Spread the word and if you don't believe me then go see for yourself.
