A $6 million renovation later, Velas Vallarta looks absolutely gorgeous! This family friendly, tropical getaway with magnificent gardens, exquisite pool landscaping and endless activities, all set in a comfortable setting. Close to the Marina Vallarta, the Velas is almost a town unto itself, with its shopping arcade, restaurants, mini-market, deli and boutiques.

Location: On the beach in Marina Vallarta, 15 minute to downtown and, 5 minutes from the airport, minutes from a Joe Finger designed golf course.

Difference Between "Grand" and Exceptional

My fiancée and I stayed at Velas Vallarta for a week. I've stayed at the Grand Velas properties in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Maya for years. I've hosted parties and brought family members. This was my 6th stay. But, not at "The Grand". I could tell from the pictures and the website that it wasn't the same, but I thought it was an old time share and maybe the Velas family bought this and was renovating it to their casual/less expensive brand. It's the opposite. Having the past Velas experience I was underwhelmed. Not the same view. Not the glass. Not the chic feel. No sight of the water. No warm towels for your hands. No water bottle with a refreshment handed. No sense of welcome from the staff or check in crew or front desk. Nothing. Walking into the room saddened me more. I simply couldn't believe it. It was plenty big, but there were no functioning reading lights in the bedroom, the view was not good. The bathroom had lots of cracking, dirty and no soaps or anything. Felt like a great suite to share with 10 of my friends in college. Way too many tall trees in the middle. I called for hangers. They were plastic. Went to the pool - had to deal with spring break towel pool cards. Tried to find a drink and get a snack to the pool. I finally walked into the main all day dining and got it myself. Tried to get a reservation for dinner. Didn't know where to go as no one really told us much about the resort. No go. After spending $24 via Velas for a private, safe ride which was 3/4 miles from the airport, traveling all day, getting a crappy room and "0" service I'd had enough. I went to the concierge and expressed my concerns. I wanted out. I wanted to Grand Velas. Within 5 minutes back in the room, my Prince Charming, Juan Carlos, the Manager arrived. He had another room at Casa Velas, a block away, that was perfect. Simply could not get us to Grand Velas. We were tired. We'd make a decision in the morning if we'd move to a different brand all together and refund our stay. On the dot, Juan Carlos called us in the morning while we decided. Bedside tables and lamps were brought in, strawberries, champagne, Coca Cola products instead of Pepsi. They also had another room they wanted us to see. The list went on and on. We saw the new room. We'd already made up our mind. We were staying. The quick turnaround and exceptional service was beyond. I've traveled for over 20 years almost weekly for business. It is what it is. We didn't pay for the "Grand" Velas, so we weren't going to get the same. What we got was better, in a different way. We got the exceptional response of the Velas brand. They understood, they reacted and took action. But simple action. They listened and did what they could within their control. I have to believe Juan Carlos spoke to the front staff. Pool service was fantastic the entire week. The food was hit or miss, but you can always find a taco or room service or buffet. Even though there are kids, it was tame. No night life and no real bar. Extremely close to the airport ($3USD) marina ($2.50USD -where many excursions meet and 10 min walk) and downtown PVR (maybe $7USD). If you want the teak cushioned chairs with silver buckets of water, super fancy rooms, multiple higher end restaurants and combed sand, then stay at Grand Velas. It's amazing. But if you want exceptional service for half the price, then don't pass this by. And please, someone, give Juan Carlos a raise.

First Trip to all inclusive

This was our first time at an all inclusive. We wanted to try something different than cruises. Wonderful experience. Food was wonderful (we loved Foodies Cantina - ate there 3 times during our visit.

Loved it - highly recommend

We have nothing but good things to say about Velas Vallarta. Anything we asked for, the answer was yes. The resort is gorgeous, and the location is awesome. Being close to the airport is nice when you arrive late! Yes, you can hear planes taking off during the day, but it didn't bother us. We had a one bedroom suite which was very spacious. It had 2 long sofas in the living room which made perfect beds for the kids - they didn't have to share a bed and we could still watch TV and access the large balcony from the bedroom without disturbing them. In Mexico, if you expect everything to be perfect, then your expectations are too high. But we came home with many happy memories and would return in a heartbeat.

Excellent Vacation - Beautiful Resort

My family, including teenagers, all really enjoyed our stay at Velas Vallarta. The pool area and beach are beautiful. Our room, a 3 bedroom suite, was clean, super comfortable beds and great bathrooms. This is my fourth Mexican trip and the food here is the best I've had. Going into old town Puerto Vallarta was really fun, kids loved the night life and we found great restaurants in town too. I highly recommend this area and this resort for a family vacation.
