A $6 million renovation later, Velas Vallarta looks absolutely gorgeous! This family friendly, tropical getaway with magnificent gardens, exquisite pool landscaping and endless activities, all set in a comfortable setting. Close to the Marina Vallarta, the Velas is almost a town unto itself, with its shopping arcade, restaurants, mini-market, deli and boutiques.
Location: On the beach in Marina Vallarta, 15 minute to downtown and, 5 minutes from the airport, minutes from a Joe Finger designed golf course.
We stayed a week and hit a bit of a cool spell but really pleasant for enjoying the outdoors. Neither of us used the pools because of temperatures but they look nice and maintained. The only big disappointment for me was that the "lazy river" is just a canal that connects the 2 pools and is not flowing water. The map of the property looks like it's bigger but those canals are Koi and turtle ponds. We had reserved a King room and got upgraded to a suite. Nice surprise to have 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. The service was good, the food was good (about what you'd expect from an all-inclusive) and we really appreciated having a nice, friendly staff as well. The grounds are beautiful and the property is not so big that getting around is a problem. Easily walk to wherever you're going. We enjoyed the peacocks on the grounds as well as the man who walked around the premises holding the falcon who was on patrol to chase away small birds. We had never seen that before. Pretty cool. One thing that I would have loved to see changed would be the addition of a bar in the lobby. You can get a so-so bar service there in the evenings but any other time if day that we were there, no one ever offered us anything. This would also be very helpful on a rainy afternoon when there's no where to go but a restaurant. As I said, there was partial bar service but I think they could great benefit from a full bar in the lobby.Overall we had a very nice stay.
We went to Puerto Vallarta for Spring Break with our son, his wife and 7-year-old son. We had a 2 bedroom/2 bath unit that was specious but older. The baths and kitchen/living room area were dark and somewhat dank because both bedrooms front on the balcony facing the center of the resort and the ocean. The landscaping is beautiful and lush. The pools are huge and connected by a 'lazy river.' The food and service were truly amazing! We especially loved the Ribera Restaurant right on the ocean!
Our family just returned from a four day stay at Velas Vallarta. We booked through Southwest Vacations and loved having a direct flight to PV from Denver. Do your research before you go and you will be prepared for the 'shark tank' at the airport. Go straight through the time share salespeople and buy your taxi ticket at the counter after the doors (ours cost 460 pesos = about $23). Velas is a quick less than 10 minute taxi ride from the airport (great for car sick kids). The check in process was easy and fast. We were taken to our room through the beautiful gardens. Towering palm trees and other lush tropical plants surrounded meandering koi ponds and swimming pools. There is a herd of peacocks that roam the property. The room was lovely and perfect for our family of four. Nicely sized with a large balcony overlooking the garden. The restaurants were nice, not out of the this world. All of the workers we were in contact with were friendly and helpful. No complaints. The airplanes could be heard taking off and landing during the day and into the evening, but didn't keep me up at night. The peacocks, however, did call to each other throughout the night. If you're a light sleeper, this might be an issue. I wore ear plugs and that took care of it. Helpful tip: there are two ATMs on the property. Both near the check in desk - just ask. One kicks out dollars, the other kicks out pesos. I wish i would have known and it would have saved me the stress of finding one in town.
When we arrive at the airport and ask for a transportation to our hotel (Vidanta) they confused us and send us to a man to promise discount adventures just to go to a breakfast presentation for "90" minutes. We bite the bait and the next day we spend 6 hours at Velas! ( a complete nightmare) , after the first salesman, another, and another, and another always apologizing for the treatment of the predecessor. Say at the airport a very firmly NO, is the only way out
My family (wife and I, daughter 13, son 15) stayed at Velas Vallarta for 5 days in April 2017. We selected the all inclusive package. The Resort has a smaller more boutique feel to it compared to some of the other all inclusive resorts. That being said, it rivals any of the other resorts with its cleanliness, food quality and especially the service. The rooms were well maintained but had a slight aged look to them. The bed and bathroom were comfortable and the mini bar was always stocked. It was perfect for a family that did not spend much time in the room. The grounds of the hotel were clean and well maintained. You got to love the iguana that sunbathes with you and the peacocks that roam the property. The peacock calls give you a sense that you are definitely in a tropical setting. The pool setting was great. The pool bar is great, the pool was always clean and they always had a good amount of activities for all ages in and out of the pool. The pool side service for food and drinks was top notch, constant and quick....loved it. You have to love the taco bar and the hamburger/hot dog bar next to the pool. If you like laying out on the beach, the numerous cabanas offered great shade...just get up early to get them. You will not be disappointed with the quality and the selection of the food. With only three restaurants, they did a great job of changing up the menus so you could have something different every night. The all day pastry and ice cream bar will satisfy any sweet tooth. Customer service is something Velas has definitely figured out. It was top notch from check in to check out. Table service at the restaurants was better than many fine dining establishments. As mentioned before, the pool and beach service was constant, quick and with a smile. Whether it was a plate of food from a restaurant or the pool side food bars, or just a drink it was easy, fast and no problem. We had a slight concern about being so close to the airport and the possible noise. We did hear planes taking off but really it was not big deal. The amount of planes was not a lot and I would not let it influence your decision. It was especially nice being less than 10 minutes from the airport. Overall, we had a great stay and a will have wonderful memories from our vacation.......THANK YOU VELAS VALLARTA
