A $6 million renovation later, Velas Vallarta looks absolutely gorgeous! This family friendly, tropical getaway with magnificent gardens, exquisite pool landscaping and endless activities, all set in a comfortable setting. Close to the Marina Vallarta, the Velas is almost a town unto itself, with its shopping arcade, restaurants, mini-market, deli and boutiques.
Location: On the beach in Marina Vallarta, 15 minute to downtown and, 5 minutes from the airport, minutes from a Joe Finger designed golf course.
First time to Puerta Vallarta, we came through RCI and usually have good luck. No so here, the first night here the food was like we were at a bad wedding reception. Next night we gave it another go, but again not very good. Buffets are small with very little selection. We went to the ownership meeting and as we tried to tell them from the very beginning why would we spend the money they were quoting for the someplace we weren't thrilled with. First impressions are everything in sales and theirs was not a good one.I have to admit they took our criticism to heart and and moved us to their nicer property at Grand Velas which in our estimation was head and shoulders above Velas Vallarta and was worth the all-inclusive fees. The staff here and Grand Vela are very friendly and open.
Absolutely the best vacation spot we go to. We have been visiting Velas Vallarta for the last 5 years all due to tremendous service and a beautiful resort. Our planning for our next year always starts before we even leave. Whether it was Adrian's friendly smile and delicious recommendations or the amazing and attentive Alfredo and Marcelino at the beach and pool, we always are happy. Thank you so much for always making us feel like family! While strolling the grounds we were trying to think if we would like to try somewhere else but Velas just feels like home.
So if you're one that believes that the people/service are what make a vacation a vacation, then look no further than here. Juan Carlos Lopez, the manager of the resort, leads by example and it shows. Him and his staff create an infectious aire of positivity and relaxation that exudes every part of your experience here and I assert this also makes the guests that surround you more fun and relaxed as well. This resort is the more modest of the three they have (Casa Velas, adults only and Grand Velas, which if you can afford is substantially nicer). But don't take that as this place is not phenomenal. The lobby is large and welcoming, with staff serving drinks and a crepes station coming out in the afternoon. The grounds are plush with well manicured plants and trees. There are 3 pools...a nice kids pool, a "party pool", which Cristian keeps hopping all day with awesome music and activities, and a more placid pool for adults a older kids. La Ribera is a restaurant on the beach, open air, its ok. Andrea is definitely our favorite restaurant here, with made to order omlettes and waffles/pancackes and a nice buffet should you choose it over the menu items. The dinners at Andrea are also great (ask when they have the Lamb Ossobucco). Their restaurant "foodie cantina" is gourment mexican, not open all year, and is very nice as well. your drink options here are all rail...their high end vodkas are Stoli or Absolut and their beers are all tecate or less. The rooms are dated but perfect for our needs. The beds and sheets are super comfortable and the showers are nice, strong, and hot.The kids club here is fantastic, with both indoor and outdoor options. I say come here for the total experience. Service, comfort, and if you need to get off the reservation, head to the marina, play a round of golf, or cab it into the city, all are within reach and easy to do. As an added tip, if you work out during your vacation, ask them for a pass to the gym in Casa Velas...its much nicer than the treadmill-only gym on the resort.
We just got back from another delightful stay at Velas Vallarta. When discussing plans for next year's vacation, my wife said, "Why would we go anywhere else?" That pretty much sums it up - we have never been disappointed, the grounds are impeccable, and the staff is like family. Each morning started with a warm welcome from Cristina at the beach restaurant, where we had great service by Adrian and Moses - BTW, Adrian made me a terrific cappuccino, give it a try. During the day, we moved around a bit, where on the beach Marcelino and Eloy took excellent care of us, and by the pool, Alfredo and Alvero did the same. One day my son's girlfriend had the misfortune of stubbing her toe and losing her toenail (OUCH!), so my wife called the front desk and they connected her to speak to a doctor within seconds. We have already made the easy decision for next year - it'll be Velas Vallarta again.
This was our first trip to Puerto Vallarta and the Velas Vallarta. The first thing I have to mention is the staff. Every person we encountered was very friendly and very helpful. The servers in the restaurants went out of their way to accommodate us. They were extremely polite and catered to our every request. Housekeeping and maintenance staff were the same. We were upgraded to a three bedroom, oceanfront unit. It was beautiful. The patio/balcony was my favorite part. The view was spectacular. The patio had four lounge chairs, a table that seated four and a large hot tub and there was plenty of room to move around. We were in unit 4615. This unit is in excellent condition. The food was very good. The pools are large and the outdoor area is beautifully landscaped and clean. My husband played the golf course very close by for cart fee only. He was very impressed with the course. We had no complaints about any part of our stay. If we were to visit Puerto Vallarta again, we would definitely stay at Velas Vallarta again.
