Villa del Palmar Flamingos

Flamingos is a five star resort with great accommodations and a superb staff. While we do not ever eat dinner here, as Bucerias is so close, the lunch fare on the beach and in the deli is very good. Our only complaint is the loud music with singing and dancing virtually every night. Some employees deserve special accolades. Those include Alonso, Eduardo, and David as bell boys. On the beach the hard workers include Esteban, German, Ivan, and Domingo. Like most owners we would like to see less rooms occupied by non-members, but we still have an outstanding time here.
We stayed at Villa del Palmar Flamingos from February 4 through February 18, 2017. We were greeted with kindness immediately from the bellman staff. Our check in process was very quick and it was a Saturday. Our room was ready and it was very clean. We have been there before and although the furniture hasn't changed it was still in great shape and comfortable. The mattress in the master bedroom was so nice that on most mornings we didn't get up until 9-9:30. The pool areas were clean as was the pool itself. Wonderfully landscaped grounds lead you to a beautiful view of the Bay of Banderas. We have never been here in Nuevo Vallarta in February and the water was 3 shades of stunning blue. We ate at the restaurants on site ( 3 or 4 of them including La Casona that is next door in La Estancia ) a total of 7 or 8 times and the food was good. One change I'd like to see is a larger breakfast buffet with more options. We did eat most of our breakfasts and dinners in our room. The kitchen was sufficiently equipped and we had a grill on the deck. We went to downtown Puerto Vallarta's malecon a few times, a 230 peso cost , to dine at some of our favorite and frequently visited restaurants. Barcelona Tapas and La Dolce Vita. Always great food and pleasant staff there. I recommend reservations for both as lines can form. We also went to the small but growing town of Bucerias. Most people go to the " town square" and little shopping area there we do. This time we branched out to discover their growing art district that has an art walk on Thursdays from 7-9pm. If you can, visit a little gallery called Soñe. Interesting and 3 different types of art by the 3 different owners. We met one owner, her name was Nova and a nicer person would be hard to find. That area is quaint, peaceful, and in our opinion could be a retirement destination. While there we visited and ole go to restaurant on the beach called El Brujo and the Mexican fare is also great. We went to a new restaurant for us called Equinas 22. A comfy place with a local feel with food that is very very good. We went on a Friday and one of the owners, Alain, found time even tho he was very busy working behind the bar and cleaning tables and placing flowers around his place, to come sit with us for a few just to see how we were enjoying our meal and drinks. This added to the home-like neighborly feel to the place. I can easily recommend all I spoke about.
While walking in a shopping strip in Puerto Vallarta, a very polite man, well dressed, with a charming smile approached us, claiming he was promoting Villa del Palmar Flamingos. My husband and I were lured with gifts: a free breakfast buffet, restaurant coupons, and free massage. In exchange, we just had to attend a 75-minute presentation at Villa del Palmar Flamingos Hotel. He also offered free transportation to and from the hotel. The next day, he was at the door of our hotel, picked us up and delivered us to Villa del Palmar. We were received by a business woman who confirmed we met certain age requirements (meaning they want established folks with steady income to make payments-find out later). They also require a credit card with a good line of credit. (They want enough credit line to charge a large amount-find out later). These details had already been verified by subtle questioning the day before by the charming man who took us that morning to Villa del Palmar. Then, we were introduced to our tour guide, a friendly and handsome man (a salesman).During breakfast, the salesman (highly trained in selling techniques) will ask questions and gather all the information necessary to identify your vacation interests and needs. Then, he will show you these beautiful apartment models in Villa del Palmar, perfectly positioned in front of the pool/ocean (remember they are just models). Since the salesperson has gathered your particular info, he knows your stereotype, they will attempt to sell you a package that will be “appealing to you.”We were offered an annual vacation in one of their 1 or 2 bedroom apartments for one week every year for as little as $800 per week. Supposedly, we could use Villa del Palmar/Villa del Group facilities. We could also book any hotel in a network of fancy hotels they are partnered with for an additional annual fee.In order to obtain this apparently great deal, you have to sign a 30-year membership with Villa del Group. The cost: 25,000 USD. They asked for a 5,000 USD down payment. The rest must be financed in 5-10 years through their financial institution at 15 % annual interest. They will even offer a discount if you pay the $25,000 cash. Moreover, they will tell you that you can apply the 25,000 toward the cost of a condo at the end of the 30 years. Then, when they see that you realize the $800 weekly rental has an expensive membership cost attached, they will reduced the membership to 20,000 USD with only a 2,000 USD down payment. They’ll even say they don't need your SSN, but they do want your credit card number to charge the down payment. Be aware! They play loud and upbeat music designed to propel the brain into rushed decision making. They also have people who work for them seating in the large salesroom posing as potential buyers and guests. At this point, they pop open a bottle of wine (or something) every 5 minutes to trick you into believing other couples are closing such a great deal… why shouldn’t you? At this point, 4 hours have elapsed. You are tired of their intense selling techniques. I guess some people might give in, but we didn't. We chose NOT to buy the membership. We know that investing 20,000 USD now in mutual funds will compound into over 100,000 USD in 30 years. Whereas, 20,000 in 30 years will not even be enough for a down payment of their little 1 bedroom condo. We prefer to get good deals in the internet for hotels and destinations that are not necessarily in their network. We told them we were not pleased with the misleading 75-min presentation turned into 4 hours of questioning and selling. It was more than promoting their hotel, it was intense selling of a 20,000 USD membership. Our unhappy salesman walked us to the lobby. There, they have another stop where a man (part of the marketing team) gives you a survey and ask you several questions about your experience. Then, he takes you to another room where you are further questioned by a cheerful lady who offers to schedule your free massage. After being misled more than 4 hours later, you just want to go back to your original hotel… They did not give us the restaurant coupon. We had to ask for it, and we used it to eat and drink to recover from the ordeal. They did provide transportation back. In retrospect, we would not accept any invitation to attend the promotion of any hotel in exchange for restaurant coupons or massage. And now that I'm searching this Villa Group online, I find several unsatisfied people with the company.
From the moment you arrive you are welcomed with a warm friendly smile, a hug and very efficient Bell Men. Luis, Alonso, David, and Eduardo are thee absolute best! You will immediately feel at home! If you've stayed there in the past, they remember you and make you feel like family! We've been going there for ten years and have never had a negative experience! I would also like to mention Ernesto Gutierrez who helps with the kayaking and paddle boarding. He is amazing! We just love him. Always so helpful and fun. Again greets you just like family. Abraham heads the "kids" that do the entertainment. He has so much energy and always smiling. They are all also amazing. From water arobics, dancing, volleyball, teaching you how to make guacamole, paddle board lessons in the pool, playing games with the little kids, and a ton of other things. Again, they are the best! I could go on and on! It's a wonderful resort!
The rooms are spacious, clean and very well appointed. The pool is wonderful for both children and adults. The staff makes you feel welcome and are attentive to your every need. The restaurants went out of their way to accommodate our gluten free family members. The spa is amazing. This will be our go to place when in Mexico!
