Villas Vallarta by Canto del Sol

OverviewA charming hotel with a swimming pool area with a quiet ambiance for relaxation. Not on the beach, but with use of the beach of its sister hotel, Canto del Sol, across the street.
Location: In the hotel zone, 10 minutes to downtown, 10 minutes from the airport.
I did a girls trip to Puerto vallarta with my mom and my 11 month old baby. We wanted a hotel where I could put my baby down for a nap and still sit by the pool and this hotel was perfect for it. I upgraded the room for 120$ extra to the walk out, pool side room and it was the best 120$ spent. I brought a video monitor and set it up in theroom, locked the front door... and I had my baby sleeping in her play pen while I was lounging in the pool watching her on the video monitor. The hotel is across a "street" from canto del sol, and we had the all inclusive option where you can use all of the amenities as in the pool, the restaurants, the drinks, everything from canto del sol. It was a quick 1 minute walk which to me was less of a walk then just walking around some of the other resorts I've stayed at. The food was great, the staff was friendly... AND on the last day we finally found the "Private pool" that has a water park for kids. (wish I found it earlier). It was quiet and a lot less busy. there was barely any kids at the waterpark and it was a much nicer pool, Definitely ask around and find it early in your trip ! The location was great, you literally walk 30 seconds to the main street with a bus stop RIGHT across the road that will take you to the malecon one way, or even Sayulita the other. We hopped on the bus to Sayulita one day and the bus picks you up and drops you off RIGHT infront of this hotel. (and the bus cost like 6$!) Perfect ! It was also about a 20 minute walk to the MEga, which was perfect as it got us out of the hotel and walking around when we had to run over to pick up diapers or whatever for baby. It was a great hotel for having a small child as it was a SMALL hotel option off the side of a larger resort. I wouldn't have stayed at canto del sol if this wasn't an option. I would go back to Villas Vallarta in a heartbeat. They even have their own breakfast included so you don't have to go across to canto del sol in the morning. it was just as good, maybe not as big with as many options but the mornings we were getting ready for a busy day it was nice to just pop in, grab a bite, and pop out as it was a lot less busy. I don't drink- but the bartender was amazing. Since it's such a small hotel and there's only ever 6-10 people at the pool at once, he goes above and beyond ! always checking if you want a refill on your drinks, always making trips over to you to collect your cups or whatever so you don't have to get up. He also started making me special drinks by the end because I was bored of my virgin pina coladas and coke with ice. He started throwing together stuff that he knew I liked and making me special stuff, without me even asking ! I wish I remembered his name.I would go back for sure and if you have small children, I would suggest this hotel for you ! Especially if you can get a walkout room next to the pool. ;)
My wife and I stayed at the Villas Vallarta by Canto del Sol in February, 2017. The entrance is impressive with a beautiful flight of stairs up to the lobby. The pool was nothing impressive but adequate - we didn't mind as we were there to see the sights and the beach, not sit by the pool. The room was also adequate - fairly spacious with a sitting area and a big, comfortable bed but the bathroom was a little rundown. The drain in the bathroom began to stink pretty badly our first morning there but we just poured some water down the drain and it took care of it. However, we were most impressed by the people. All the staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. Breakfast each morning was excellent and varied. If you're expecting 4 or 5 star room quality, this isn't it. What it is is a comfortable hotel at discount prices with 5 star people staffing it. We would absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to friends and family!
Great place to stay, quiet across a small driveway from main Hotel canto del. sol. Breakfast was our hotel or across the way main hotel, all other meals were at main hotel no problem have walked farther a the large to hotel to get to services. Be careful of late check in after 11pm no one at desk go to main hotel help. Rooms on 500 level off lobby can be dark and no view, parking ramp and busy hallway off lobby. we were in 608 great room and location. staff great and very helpful esp the day desk clerks (towels ,room changes and info) even had a room to use for late departures to change and shower
If you're a "resort person," and you want everything provided for you, you may not like this hotel. I thought it was great. Relaxing, private pool (with a hotel bar with $1 margaritas - tip another $1 per drink, and you may get a drink twice as big!). The staff was so nice - housekeeping thanked me for tips repeatedly every day, and left fresh flowers as a thank-you gift. Plus, the beach at Canto Del Sol was perfect for a brief private beach getaway. Beware - unlike others, I was not offered the opportunity to upgrade to all-inclusive at Canto del Sol. I had to pay $50 USD/day (or so) at Canto del Sol to upgrade and use their facilities. Beach was included, but pool/etc. was not. Just be aware - I think it depends on how you booked!
We booked into a 'Studio' room at Villas Vallarta 11-15 April that included a kitchenette with fridge, coffee maker, king bed, balcony, safe, A/C and free daily breakfast.Check in was pretty quick, but they give you a card and send you to another desk for your beach towels, but really it's to ask you to attend a Time Share presentation. I said yes but never showed up and they never asked again (no I refused to give a deposit, so no loss). We enjoyed our assigned room, on the same level as the front desk, and since this is a huge place, we were happy with a short walk. One flight of stairs up was the pool and breakfast restaurant. We asked for a pool view room but they said 'not available'.Our balcony did not have furniture on it and looked out onto other balconies, but it did the job. We never did receive any patio furniture from our two requests and just put a couple of our dinner chairs outside. The buffet restaurant is lovely and colourful; all made up with table clothes and real napkins, and the food variety and quality was very acceptable to both Colleen and me.Although this area of town is more north than we prefer, it balances out nicely as the actual Villas Vallarta Shopping Plaza on the main level has everything you could ask for: liquor store, pharmacy, restaurants, coffee shops, souvenir stores, massage, banks, and more. We walked, or took the bus for about 8 pesos, or grabbed a cab for about 50 pesos. The pool was clean, and always empty until about 11am, so do enjoy it early. The pool bar opens at noon.Beach access is out the front door and down a short path, but limited loungers are available. We stayed at many hotels during our time in PV, and even though Villas Vallarta was the most expensive at 1730 pesos per day, we still found it to be a good value (especially considering it was Easter Week) and we'd recommend staying here.Cheers!Paul
