Our Opinion

Located in the middle of the resort, Grand Bahia Principe Coba has better amenities than the other two Bahia Principe properties but is about a 10-15 minute walk to the beach, however, trams run throughout the property. A great pool area and clubhouse with Internet access. It has its own buffet restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Also check out the sister resorts next door, Grand Bahia Principe Akumal and Grand Bahia Principe Tulum.

Overview
The Grand Bahia Principe Coba is an oasis in which to unwind. Rejuvenate yourself mentally and physically, surrounded by crystal-clear waters and a sandy white beach. A self-contained resort complete with spa, shops, piano bar, sports bar and a disco, Grand Bahia Principe Coba is located behind Grand Bahia Principe Akumal in the beautiful Riviera Maya.

Location: Next to Grand Bahia Principe Akumal, 35 min to Playa del Carmen, 20 min from the Mayan Ruins at Tulum, 90 min from the Cancun airport.

Highlights
  • Kids activities for all ages (baby, child, teen) plus a large waterpark
  • Lush, tropical surroundings and wildlife
  • Large pools with loungers and swim-up bars
  • Dedicated section at the beach with beach bar
  • Great family suites with amenities and mini-bar options for kids

Amazing as always

Christian Loeza one of your bellboys is one of the nicest and friendliest person I have ever met .. dont get me wrong everyone is great that we have had dealings with and nothing but helpful but Christian is a diamond and has become a great friend ..One other thing ... the Don Pablo restaurant that everyone told us was the best wasn't !!! La Gormet is 10 times better with a better menus and quality of food total different atmosphere ... having said that the Don Pablo was ok and a lovely place well presented as expected from anywhere in the hotel area we did enjoy it .... But the La Gourmet, Mashua, and the Italian and the Mikado was 10 times better and should be highlighted as such. All in all an amazing time a great 2 weeks and our 2nd great experience with you, my wife and I had a few tears when we were leaving. We are hoping to return next year but it depends on Thompson as they seem to be putting their prices up ūüôą..We love your country the Coba your staff and your food, culture and all you have to offer hope to see you soon. We would again like to commend Christian Lueza (bellboy) and also Daisie (waitress) who made our stay very special and enjoyable they are very professional and nothing is too much trouble for them as I have said ALL your staff are highly commended in our eyes but these two are little diamonds and made our stay very enjoyable . summer holiday

Great hotel - staff were lovely - food was great - the facilities and the evening entertainment was very good. The shuttle bus service around the hotel was fantastic. The a la carte restaurants around the resort were very good indeed!

Great time at an anniversary/vow renewal

We stayed at Grand Bahia Principe Coba from August 10th to the 17th for my sister's vow renewal and anniversary celebration. We're a family of 5 (kids ages 14, 12 and 9) and were in a group of about 23 others. This was our 6th AI trip, but the first time that we brought the kids. The family suite - with two connecting rooms - was fantastic. Both fridges where re-stocked everyday (the kids had lots of extra treats - which was so awesome) and rooms were nice and clean. AC worked great! A minus would have been the dining experience. We did have a hard time booking a la carte's - you have to be flexible and open to try whatever is available - which worked out great for us in the end. Had a fantastic dinner at Tequila in Tulum and the Don Pablo was wonderful. The buffets on the other hand were very busy and tended to be understaffed which was a tiny bit disappointing. But there was a ton of choice and the food was always delicious! The beach is full of coral so beach shoes would be helpful. Tons of fish though, if you like snorkeling. All of the pools were fun, had great service at the swim-up bars and we had a blast at them every afternoon. A shout out to Francesco and Raul for keeping us entertained everyday and Miguel for the awesome Segway tour around the resort. All in all we had a fantastic family vacation and would definitely recommend this resort for families. We would absolutely return!

Coba nightmare

First off, this is not a 5* hotel. 3* at the most. After checking in, we were taken on the complex's buggy to our room. The driver stopped near our building and said, your room is through there. The site is so big it took us ten min to find our room. Driver expected to be tipped for this. Ten min later another man appears with our suitcases, another tip, even though there was room on the first buggy for the cases. As we opened the door the air con wason, room lovely and cool, but there was a dehumidifier also running. We had to empty 10ltr of water every 5 hours from machine. Thought it was just the hummidity of Mexico. After a couple of days we realised the room was smelling of dampness. We would have complained but when we went to book some trips there was someone complaining to the rep that his aircon had not been working for 4 days and he was fed up complaining to the hotel. Room was cleaned daily but the bed sheets were only changed once the whole two weeks. The shops in the hotel are way way over priced. For a packet of dorito's that you can buy in asda for £1, the hotel shop was charging $9 dollars, about £8. Even a small bar of chocolate was $5. Even little trinkets at the stalls were to expensive If you did'nt pay for internet it was only available in the coba or premier lobbies, which was poor at the best of times. None of the lobbies were air conditioned and were always far to warm. They really need to keep these places cooler. The pools were about the best thing in the complex but the swim up bars need some attention. There was only one barman on at the pool bars at busy times so getting served was quite a wait, unless you tipped and he would look after you until the next person tipped him, then they would get all the attention. The food at the buffet was ok but if you did manage to find a table, you would either have to ask to get it cleaned or just wait for someone to clean it. Some times we had to clean the plates from the table ourselves. Some times we waited 20min for our drinks to arrive as at the buffets you cannot go to the bar yourself. The hotel also allows photo's with animals which I thought was out of order. The hotel also has a small dolphin pool on it in which there are about 8 dolphins on it. So cruel. If I knew that this was happening at the hotel, I would not have booked. Take lots of insect repellent. We took fly spray, suncream with repellent in it and smidge that midge(which keeps the dreaded scottish midge at bay)and we still got bitten badly. At the airport leaving we had to pay $65 each to get out of Mexico. $195. If I ever go back to this place it will have to be in handcuffs, kicking and screaming.

Celebrating my brithday!

Based on a previous visit I choose this complex, spent very nice time mostly at the beach. They have great food, loved the live music everyday. For those that do not know the area this resort is located an hour and a half south from the Cancun airport, so you need to be patient coming and going. Souvenirs are expensive. WiFi is only free at the lobby. Since is so big you there are charts that drive you around.
