Our Opinion

A great resort. Newly renovated rooms are very spacious, and the staff will cater to your requests to ensure that you are comfortable. The majority of food served in this resort is Mexican cuisine, and it has an OK variety of alcohol on the shelf. This is a resort suited for those who want to venture away from the resort facilities and enjoy the beach and wildlife that surrounds it.

Explore the natural wonders of the Mayan Riviera from this ideally situated all-inclusive. Golf at the nearby Puerto Aventuras course or visit the natural aquarium of Xel-Ha and the ancient ruins of Tulum. Families appreciate the spacious accommodations, fun Kids' Club, kilometre-long white sandy beach and calm reef-protected waters.

A must visit

Loved this hotel from the moment we arrived. As other reviews all the staff worked so hard and were so pleasant with the exception of one lady at buffet reception. The beach is amazing and you get to hire free for one hour snorkel equipment. I ended up buying some gear as I just adored snorkelling in the warm crystal blue sea. The one man band guy on the beach is awesome and always smiling. Loved the guys st the snack bar and Patricia who brought us drinks on the beach! A big big thank you to Ceaser who looked after my daughter and I on our first day. I won't say anything more as I think previous reviews sum up the place but what I will say is if you get a chance to go to Mexico Akumal bay is the place to be! I loved loved loved it!!!! Thank you so so much to all staff and management

What a awesome resort!!!!!!!

My family and I had a great one week vacation and the staff was fantastic! There was eight of us, 6 adults and two teens. My parents were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and we had a couple of birthdays as well. The resort and beach are beautiful and the staff were very accommodating. We visited all the restaurants but the French one(due to the required dress code). The food was outstanding! I have to say that the buffet was the best and the selection was amazing. Something for everyone. There is a longer wait for the specialty restaurants, but that is expected, considering there was eight of us. There was always something to do or an a event going on, from the yoga, paddle boarding, scuba diving, snorkeling, and even water aerobics, as well as a Mexican day and all the live music. There were a lot of different excursions to go on as well. We have special thanks to give to Luis Yekon and Walter at the Cafe/Snack Bar. They really went out of their way to make us happy. At the beach Marbella was always there to make sure we had everything we needed. One little lady, Adriana Pena, at the buffet was so wonderful and so gracious. Overall our stay was awesome, except for a some housekeeping and air conditioning issues. My family and I are thinking about planning another vacation for next year and returning to the resort. Hopefully a little longer so that we can experience everything that is offered.

beautiful setting, relaxed atmosphere, amazing service...we will go back someday!

We were greeted with cold towels to refresh and also margaritas before we even took ten steps into the resort. This level of service continued throughout the next 7 days. We commented over and over at how busy all staff members were. They were constantly working hard to make our stay great. We usually hung out on the beach in front of building two near the snack bar. The cabanas provide nice shade but you have to get up early to get one. The beach was just beautiful. We spent a lot of time snorkeling right in this area and were lucky enough to see sea turtles every day, in addition to beautiful reefs and fish. There were a lot of stingrays but the water is so clear that it was easy to spot them. Servers even come out onto the beach to take drink orders. We had a junior suite in building three. The view was amazing. It was nice to have a small bar just outside our building as well as an infinity pool. The corner room gave us a queen bed and double bed. Our older teen took the double and we were able to ask for an extra sheet and blanket to turn the sofa into a bed for our younger son. All of the basic amenities were provided. The mini bar was restocked every day.We had breakfast at the buffet every day and were pleased with the selection each time. We were sure to get some made to order omelets throughout the week as well as some traditional Mexican fare. A variety of breads and fruits were always available. Dinners there were also great. All of the members of my family (including picky eaters) were able to find several options. We ended up using the snack bar for lunch mostly because it was just so convenient. We also didn't want to have to put on dry clothes to go to the buffet. I did not expect such a nice selection to be available at the snack bar. For each lunch there was always a salad bar as well as chips with fresh salsa, guacamole, cheese sauce, and other toppings. Several desserts were available as well as small pizzas, burgers, and fries. There were usually 5 other hot items which changed daily like salmon, potatoes, chicken, etc.The staff at the sushi bar were helpful when ordering, especially since we were not well-versed on sushi. It was all freshly made to order and always tasted great. We only made it to two of the a la carte restaurants - Mexican and Brazilian, but we were pleased with the service and the food at both. We were able to special order food for our younger son that wasn't on the menu. The server was happy to accommodate us.Walking through the resort, the beauty is just astounding. The gardens are so well-kept. Everything is so clean. There is just a sense of calm and relaxation that enveloped me the entire time that I was there. I appreciated the thatched roof buildings throughout. The biggest takeaway for me was the service from the staff. We were always greeted with smiles. By the third day our breakfast server knew that we liked our coffee black and that our kids wanted apple juice. One of our sons got injured during the vacation and a bartender contacted a friend to help us find a wrist brace in the nearest town. The yoga instructor also heard of my son's problem and helped me to located stores that would have braces. This type of above and beyond service was much appreciated. The vibe of the resort at night was very chill and relaxed. There was always some sort of live music but by 11:00 the resort is pretty much quiet. We would spend our evenings after dinner sitting around tables listening to the music or taking walks. One night we saw a giant turtle making a nest and then another one coming out of the sea.My only complaint would be with inconsistency regarding housekeeping. One day our room wasn't cleaned until after 5:00 at which point we were ready to shower to get ready for the night. One day our towels weren't replaced, another day no shampoo...and we never did get any towel animals or turn down service. Our friends who were in another building had these things every day. Although this was a negative, it certainly was not a big deal. I would highly recommend the resort to anyone looking for a laid-back resort with amazing staff in a beautiful setting. This is not the kind of place with crazy swim up pool bars or drunken partons all over. The demographic during our stay was a mix of families with young children, families with teens, older couples, and honeymooners. We felt safe leaving items on the beach if we wanted to go grab a bite at the snack bar or get another drink:)

The most incredible 2 weeks ever

Where do we even begin? Myself and my boyfriend booked this holiday a year in advance, and it was well worth the wait. We stayed at Akumal Bay 27/06 till 11/07 and I am confident enough to say it was the best 2 weeks of my life. From the moment we arrived and were greeted with cold flannels and drinks, till leaving and being given a small gift for departure, there was not a moment where the service was 100%. The hotel location is beautiful, being able to swim in the beach and being lucky enough to swim alongside a turtle was the most amazing experience ever, it genuinely brought tears. And then witnessing a turtle create a nest and lay its eggs, it's just something you never think you'll ever see but we were so fortunate one night to see it.The hotel itself is incredibly clean and organised, there is not a day goes by where maintenance isn't being done, the gardens and even the beach are cleaned of any rubbish on a daily basis, they do so well to keep this place beautiful. The rooms are extremely well equipped, with fresh towels and robes daily, and fresh bedding when requested. The mini bar was restocked daily with water, fizzy drinks and beer, a packet of crisps, and sometimes a snicker bar which was delightful. Our maid for the whole 2 weeks, Lorena, did an incredible job and she was always so friendly and polite whenever our paths crossed. The room was kept immaculate and always felt so fresh. We even came back from a night out to turn down service and chocolates on the bed. Thank you Lorena! The food and drinks can only be described perfect. 24 hour room service is just what you need after a heavy night at coco bongos, and it did not disappoint. There was never any trouble getting into any of the al a carte restaurants, and they all had reasonable waiting times. The buffet had a wide variety of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner, enough to satisfy us for 2 weeks. The drinks were phenomenal. Every spirit was available and labelled, none of this watered down malakery that some people experience in an all inclusive. The service was brilliant, even when lying around the pool the lovely ladies would come and ask if you would like a drink, and were so appreciative if you gave a small tip. The cocktail menu was massive, as was the flow of tequila...Entertainment was also great. Daily there was an activity going on around the pool, whether it was aqua aerobics or fun little games to win prizes. The night time saw live music. There was always something going on, you could never get bored in this hotel. The two young ladies Marina and Karla were so lovely, they were always so full of energy day and night and kept us well entertained, thank you both!Overall, I can't even put into words properly how magical this resort it. I've never been so depressed to have returned to normal life, the moment I got back home all I could think about was when am I going to go back to Akumal Bay? We really had the best 2 weeks ever, there was nothing that could be faulted, and we are so excited to return when we can! Thank you to all the staff, from the gardeners to the bar staff to the receptionists, you all played such a big part in making our stay amazing.

Almost Five Stars

Our family of five (including three adult sons) enjoyed two weeks at this resort from June 23rd to July 7th. It ticked all of our boxes and enabled each of us to have a vacation tailored to our individual tastes. My youngest spent his days at the sushi bar with a pina colada and a book; my middle son swam, went diving, and participated in many of the activities; our eldest spent his days snorkeling and sunning on the beach and his evenings in the lobby bar, and my husband and myself enjoyed a combination of all of the above.WHY I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE GIVEN THIS RESORT FIVE STARSThe staff – Just amazing overall! A special thank you goes out to Yeni at the lobby bar, Carlos and Pablo at the buffet, Patricia, Marbella and Marcia on the beach, Oscar at the beach bar, Liliana at the sushi bar and Karla and Marina for the activities.Improvements – They listen to the reviews and strive to make improvements. During the time that we were there they were installing drawers in the closets and the room storage easily accommodated all of our clothing. They were also monitoring the number of towels handed out to any individual at any given time and we never found there to be a shortage. (But be aware though if you are not on the beach before 8 am you will not get a spot in the shade.)WHY I GAVE IT FOUR STARS – A lack of consistency. The food – Whereas we always found the buffets and sushi bar to be excellent, the a la cartes were hit and miss. We ate at the gourmet twice, the first time was excellent, the second not so much. (And by the way if you’re a party of more than four people expect to wait several hours to be seated if you aren’t first in line when it opens.) We found the Mexican to be good, but did not especially enjoy the Asian fusion or Rodizio. The beach service – Could also be hit and miss. Some days it was stellar and other days servers were nowhere to be found. The entertainment varied in quality as well. On the upside, the drinks were always excellent and not made with sugary artificial syrups. The maid service – My son in the 3100 block had beautiful towel art multiple times, whereas the rest of us in the 3200 rooms had only one sad example in the two week period. After a week without having our shampoo replaced I had to ask. The air conditioning in our room worked well, but our sons’ rooms were not as cold.Sadly, during the last few days of our trip our tablet went missing. At first we assumed it would turn up when we packed to check out but it did not. Our fault for not locking it up in the safe but it was an old, inexpensive tablet that took forever to recharge so we left it plugged in. Had we realized its loss before the last day we would have reported it to management just to give them a heads up. I view this as the work of one opportunistic individual and not a reflection on the hotel itself. The demographic during our stay included babies, children, teens, young adults and older adults. Everyone seemed to be having a great time as did we. Overall we were extremely happy with our vacation and would not hesitate to return or recommend!
