Our Opinion

A great resort. Newly renovated rooms are very spacious, and the staff will cater to your requests to ensure that you are comfortable. The majority of food served in this resort is Mexican cuisine, and it has an OK variety of alcohol on the shelf. This is a resort suited for those who want to venture away from the resort facilities and enjoy the beach and wildlife that surrounds it.

Golf at the nearby Puerto Aventuras course or visit the natural aquarium of Xel-Ha and the ancient ruins of Tulum. Fantastic Holiday

When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted with cold towels to freshen up also margareta's which were lovely. The reception staff greeted us with a polite and friendly manner check in was quick We were celebrating our Sapphire wedding Anniversary (45years) and also my birthday whilst we were there so we were very pleased when they told us we had a upgrade to a Penthouse Suite. The Hotel was kept clean 24/7 you could always see someone cleaning as you went about .Our room was kept spotless by our maid we had clean towels every day and the bedding was changed when requested. The beach was cleaned daily by a team of men who did a really good job.The buffet restaurant had a good selection of food to suit all tastes the staff were friendly and helpful I would also like to give Adriana a special mention (she knew I liked my tea )We also visited the Steakhouse, Mexican.Japenese and French restaurants the staff once again were friendly and helpful. We had a fantastic time and we will return. We came the first 2 weeks in July.

Wow Perfect holiday

First time in Mexico. My goodness what an experience absolute paradise. The hotel was perfect stayed in a junior suite. Very spacious beds comfortable and views amazing. Just like to mention a few of your staff we couldn't fault firstly Francisco who gave out the towels such a lovely genuine person always had a chat and smile for you. Patricia who worked so hard serving drinks on the beach again very polite great sense of humour and always had a smile for you. The sushi bar was amazing. All the guys who worked on the snack bar was very attentive nothing to much bother. The only negative comment we have was a Elizabeth who greeted you at the buffet restaurant of an evening was not very pleasant. All and all fantastic holiday will return again someday.Thank you

Perfect Family Holiday!

My husband and I, and our two children (8 & 10) have just returned from a perfect 2 week family holiday at the Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort. We were the last hotel drop from the airport and couldn't have been more pleased with the hotel from the moment we arrived. The ABBWR website does not do the hotel true justice in my opinion. The hotel is perfectly maintained with lush green gardens and staff that just can't do enough for you, specifically Oscar (the beach bar man!), Walter (24 hour bar/food), and of course the lovely girls Maria, Abigail & Patricia. Oh and not forgetting Abel the 'Orchestra Man' as he likes to be known, who played me some Santana upon request while I chilled out enjoying the sun!.The hotel is situated on a beach which has a reef brilliant for snorkelling. The beach is again looked after very well with the utmost care and respect for the nesting turtles. Every morning I couldn't wait to get to the beach to watch the sunrise and then swim with the turtles and fish.I would also recommend the 'Mango Tango' cocktails, Coco Bongos and Xel-Ha Park. You cannot go wrong looking this hotel, worth every penny paid! Thank you for a wonderful holiday that we won't forget <3

Amazing Family Vacation, can´t wait to go back

This resort is awesome, just the right size so everybody to fell at ease! The beach is exactly like postcards, the coral reef is increadible, the colour & temperature of the water are perfect. Fish, Turtles, and others!!!All rooms look to the ocean and are clean and confortable, excelent food and staff very kind and friendly (Marina Schettino, guys from the snack bar, the biologist), and every one helped us to enjoy our vacation as much as they could

Fantastic time!

This was our first time at Akumal Bay and we have just got back from 2 weeks of fun, sun and mango tangos! We travelled with Thomas Cook and upgraded to premium class(which I advise as quick check in, first on plane, free drinks, extra leg room, first off plane and also your luggage is first off too). It can be very confusing at the airport trying to find your rep- people try and get you to talk and use a taxi instead, just politely decline. We had a private transfer booked through Thomas Cook and got to the hotel an hour before the coach. We got to the hotel and was greeted with a smile and a drink and was quickly checked in. I had requested building 1 beforehand and was very pleased to have received it.Got to say I was disappointed on arrival after reading about welcome towel art and flowers on arrival we had none :-( yet heard others on our flight talking about theirs the following day.The room was lovely and big, we had a king size bed and our son on the sofa bed.We ordered room service that night and it came cold :-( at this point both myself and my husband was feeling abit let down but we were tired after such a long flight and grumpier than usual. The bracelets that you wear are a pain for coming undone- both my son and husband lost theirs in the sea on the first day and they have a long list of people who lose them at reception when you have to sign for a new one. Top tip- take a sewing kit and sew them together. We had no problems after that. The beach again was a little disappointing after reading such good reviews. It's great for snorkelling but if you are going with children it's very rocky, uneven and is grassy underfoot. I advise water shoes as a must. The snorkelling is amazing and what a lovely sight and experience swimming with the beautiful fish and turtles. We took our own gear and went swimming at 7 am each morning when it was quieter. We only ate at the buffet 2 nights during our stay but the staff in there were very attentive and helpful. Lots of choice on offer and lovely to see a good selection for for children. Top tip the room at the back of the buffet is air conditioned! We ate breakfast in here a few mornings. The pelican snack bar was great- the fact that it is set up as a help your self station throughout the day meant we ate their for both breakfast and lunch most days. Also great to see a good selection of salad and veg so you didn't feel like you were eating junk constantly. The burgers are amazing though! The staff again are amazing and knew our drinks order after a few days. The al a cartes are a huge selling point of this hotel. With such exceptional food on offer why would anyone eat at the buffet! The best bit is that they offer a children's menu in each one so they can eat burger and fries whilst you enjoy the delicious food.Armando in the Mexican restaurant was lovely and looked after us the few times we visited.Amber and Aaron welcomed us each time with smiles and recognition which was lovely in the gourmet. We celebrated our wedding anniversary there and loved the decorated table and free bottle of bubbly. Huge thanks to Corinna and Emanuele for helping with that.We loved the Brazilian restaurant where they bring our swords of meat and offer them to you. Extremely tasty and don't make the same mistake we did- don't fill your plate up with the salad meats and cheeses beforehand! We never left feeling hungry. The staff are amazing- so friendly and attentive. They brought us tequila on he first night and all 3 of us tried it much to the staffs amusement as my sons face was a picture. We visited 5 times during our stay and they remembered to offer my son a tequila each time as a joke and once was made his own special "tequila". On our last night the staff wanted to take photos with us which made us feel very special. Huge thank you to Holi, Diana, Freddy, Kevin, Angel, Ricardo and Octavio for making our evenings so special. The evening entertainment was hit and miss. Loved the violinist who plays a great mixture of songs and was brilliant when tropical storm franklin hit and he entertained the masses for longer than he usually does. The reggae band was also fun to listen to.Anita our maid was wonderful and left our room spotless each day and made beautiful towel art each day on our sons bed. She also saw we were early risers and most days are room was ready by 9 am which was great as we had a siesta every afternoon. The lobby shop is small but great for any bits and bobs you may have forgotten and for gifts. The pools are fantastic and I loved the comfortable beds. The service around the large pool was very hit and miss but Selina at the pool bar near building 1 was fantastic so we spent a lot of time in the pool there. Although she is a bad influence, I am not normally a day drinker but she twisted my arm into many pina coladas, strawberry daiquiris and mango tangos! She also brought fruit and veg round daily and generally chatted to us. Rachel the Thomas cook rep was lovely and unlike some reps was very honest. We didn't feel like she was trying to sell sell sell. Many people have mentioned the fidelity club- we had no interactions with them at all.We went to yal ku lagoon twice on our stay which is lovely if you enjoy snorkelling and very affordable compared to most trips. We had a great time and would recommend this hotel to our friends. The staff work extremely hard and are very friendly.I agree with a previous review be prepared to spend a fortune at the airport on food and drink. But the airport itself is lovely and cool and easy to navigate.Thank you for a wonderful stay xx
