Our Opinion

The Azul Beach Hotel is a fabulous hotel with a great attention to detail. This is a smaller hotel and is great for couples looking to relax. Offers beach butler service and lobster dinners! There is a kids club, but some families might prefer a larger hotel with more facilities. On the flip side though, some families may like the more laid back atmosphere of this quaint hotel.

Overview

This unpretentious, boutique hotel offers an intimate atmosphere with stylish decor, innovative cuisine, creative drinks and some of the coolest services in the Mayan Riviera. Perfect for couples or families seeking an alternative to the typical mega-resorts in the Mayan, this all-inclusive hotel focuses on personalized, quality service such as 24-hour room service, Beach Butler service and a variety of menu options such as all-lobster or low-carb dining. Recent renovations include refurbished rooms, 2 new restaurants, expanded Kids Club and a private rooftop terrace for Sky Weddings.

Location: Beachfront near Puerto Morelos, 25 minutes from Cancun, 20 minutes from Playa del Carmen and 15 minutes from the airport.

second time back [long and detailed]

Four years ago, we first visited the Fives. That same year we had become Prestige members at another Karisma location. We couldn't wait to come back to visit this resort, which we remember as having some of the best food and service we've ever had in the chain. Check-in was a breeze with Brenda from Prestige. She's absolutely wonderful, we spoke many times throughout our trip.We were brought to our one bedroom suite. I know they are expanding aggressively with the Essence section, as well as pushing condo sales. But I was very displeased to see how poorly our room was maintained. The ivory couches were dirty, the beige floor tiles discolored, the cleanliness of the room in general wasn't great. The whole time we often noticed a distinctive unpleasant odor. No matter how many times we mentioned it, the aroma spray was never sprayed [except by our amazing butler]. The floors were dirty after just being "cleaned". Lastly, our hot tub wasn't cleaned until the 4th or 5th day on our trip- Usually they're cleaned every day. We didn't dare go in it this trip. Very poor housekeeping. We always tip the housekeeping, even with the poor service. When we ran into her a few times and gave a friendly hello, she didn't even acknowledge us- very rude. The pools and beach are beautiful. Well maintained pool areas, but very limited chairs by the main pool. Get there early if you want to snag a chair. As Prestige members, we were able to reserve a cabana bed on the beach daily. Many thanks to Gaby, Fabian, and Luis for top notch service! The entertainment guys Kevin and Rudolfo are awesome! Since we just wanted to relax, they'd come by every day just to say hi and chat. Very nice guys, they work VERY hard from day to night! The one suggestion we have to the Fives is to perhaps put "Reserved" signs on the beds. There seemed to have been quite a lot of confusion every day with guests wondering if they could just find an empty bed and put their stuff down. A reserved sign would definitely help eliminate the confusion. Pool bartenders at main pool very unfriendly. Every time I asked for something specifically, they wouldn't make what I'd asked for. However, the burger area has a small bar attached- That bartender was so friendly and efficient! The taco spot on the beach is amazing, per my husband. Now for the food:The reason I was so attracted to the Karisma chain was b/c they are trained to handle food allergies with the utmost precaution. I have Celiac disease as well as a dairy allergy, and they never have an issue accommodating to me.In general, compared to the last visit here, we felt overall some food quality/selections could have been better. The standard seems to have changed a bit in the past few years. Also- I think it's crazy everywhere we went, we were offered additional items for purchase. One piece of lobster can't be included with the high price we already paid? Or the coconuts on the beach- really? They used to be free. What really bothered us is they now charge for the fresh fish on the beach during the day. Again, free at any other resort!! Very disappointed with the charges everywhere. Flavours- GREAT service, always with a smile. Special thanks to Miguel and the morning staff who were always very pleasant. Only went for breakfast, nice assortment of food in the buffet. Yamile, the hostess, seemed to be wherever we'd end up throughout the day. It was so nice to always see her welcome us with a smile and right away know my allergies.Italian- Always one of our favorites. The rack of lamb was small, but delicious. The carpaccio and the seafood pasta [gluten free] were outstanding! Thai- One of our favorites. The shimp appetizer and pad thai were SOO good!! We went three times this trip. My husband said the main fish course was amazing. The servers here all deserve a round of applause. They are funny, offer fast service, and made our dinners that much more enjoyable. I wish I remembered all their names- I only took down Adrian(o). What a funny guy!Mexican- We weren't happy with this one. It's in the new Essence section & just opened 3 weeks ago. We waited 45 minutes for our appetizers, and when it came it was 3 scallops and a salad. The main course came another 20 minutes after that- The fish was so overcooked for my husband that it was rubbery, and my snapper was the tiniest piece of fish I've ever seen. The service was very good though. Sushi- AMAZING! GREAT service, many thanks to the whole staff for accommodating my special requests and offering safe and delicious gluten free sushi!! My husband is a big fan of sushi back home, he said the quality was top notch!Sea Olive- Edgar, the supervisor, I cant thank you enough for being so understanding & helpful when I felt ill. I had one issue at the Member's Dinner- By the time we made it to Sea Olive, I was very sick. Edgar stayed by my side and did whatever we could to help. It meant something to me, because it seemed he was genuinely concerned, not just because it was his job to be. Thanks Edgar!! The food here, the ceviche, the fish, all incredible! the servers were also amazing! The Poolside Grill Oriola - FANTASTIC! The ceviche bar is soooo good, we had it every single day! The tacos are also out of this world. So much flavor. These servers might have been some of the best throughout the trip for us. Fast service, always with a smile, just great! Cantina Bar - SERGIO is amazing! So friendly & knowledgeable. You have to do the tequila tasting on Saturdays with him!!We have to send a HUGE thank you to our butler, PASCUAL. He went above and beyond for all of our needs. Every day, he'd find us wherever we were multiple times a day. We started to joke that if we said his name, he'd just appear. Pascual was attentive, tended to everything we asked of him, and very thoughtful to say the least. We made a friend in Pascual and look forward to keeping in touch with him. He made every effort to be sure there were no issues with me and my allergies. Also, when an issue arose, he took it on right away and got to the bottom of it for us. For sure, he has been one of the best butlers we've had since becoming members. I'm sure we'll see him in a higher position at another resort one day! The last time we said this about a butler in a review - was GIOVANNI from Sensatori- We were SO happy to see that he is actually in charge of the butler staff now at the Fives! Always wonderful seeing you, Giovanni. I must mention those who never get noticed- the landscapers. They work unbelievably hard to keep the grounds so manicured and beautiful. We never passed one that didn't greet us with a smile. So cheers to them, the grounds are stunning!Overall, a few hiccups, but for sure we would return again. We love the Karisma chain and are so pleased we have been members for almost 5 years now.

Worth every penny

We went to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary which consisted of my parents, my husband and 15 month old and my sister and her husband and 7 year old daughter. Family friendly. Amenities for children, children club. Beach fantastic and pool. Restaurants: Amazing food for all inclusive. Exceeded expectations and felt like we were fine dining with casual ambience. This resort does not attract the party crowd for the most part so if you are looking for a somewhat quiet, classy experience this would be it. There seemed to be a lot of families but we were not overwhelmed by screaming children or overrun by families. There is a coffee shop as well where you can have any kind of coffee or smoothie during the day. Felt like having a Starbucks on site which certainly was a pleasant surprise and made waking up in the morning that much sweeter.Staff can not do enough for you and the grounds were immaculate, easy to walk the property but there were golf carts available for those with mobility issues or too tired.Fantastic Italian and Thai restaurant (our favourites) and the beach grill was wonderful to have lunch or grab a beer and a small bite while at the beach.Concierge service phenomenal at organizing flower delivery, champagne breakfast on our roof terrace and mariachi band as a surprise for my parents. If you are looking for a place to go with your family this is it. Even without kids we would go here as it catered to everyone. You won't be disappointed.

Family awesomeness!

Whoa Nelly! This resort is HUGE! It has basketball courts, tennis courts, games rooms, teen lounges, kids club, shopping, cantinas, animals, bars, restaurants, lazy rivers!!! The list goes on and on!I love this place, it offers a ton for the Family to do. It can also be a nice place to escape the kids and have some adult time. The pools are so nice and spread apart. The food and drinks are SOOO good here. If you are looking for a place with a gorgeous beach and equally beautiful grounds, then you have found paradise.

Great kidsclub!

We, are family of four from The Netherlands had a lovely stay. Good food quality, great pools (many to choose from) and a nice kidsclub for our 7 and 4 year old girls. They enjoyed a real Mexican birthday party at the kids club and loved the play gym.

January 5-12 vacation time

A wonderful resort.. All members of the family enjoyed their stay.. We were in a 2 bedroom essence suite plenty of room.. It would have been easier for the 3 girls if the second bedroom had 2 beds instead of the king but the pull out was comfortable for the one. The staff are all friendly, happy and a great asset to the resorts atmosphere. We chose this resort because of the teen program however that was non existent. There was a teen club but not many teens attended our girls joined in the beach volley ball water polo at the infinity pool with the adults.. A very clean well maintained resort.. The food was excellent we tried all of the restaurants. We will definitely be going back. There is plenty to do off site as well. We went snorkeling and swam with dolphins.
