Our Opinion

The Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda is a popular 4 star all inclusive resort with a spectacular pool area but a small beach. The complex is quite large so there can be lots of walking, although there are carts to shuttle people around which really helps. The food here is excellent with lots of selection in the buffet and a great Italian a la carte. The Spa is also another wonderful feature at this resort.

Overview
While this deluxe resort may be styled after an old Mayan village, it features all the modern conveniences of a world class resort. This stunning new property is part of the favourite Gala hotel chain and is located on a 350-metre stretch of beach - just minutes from the charming town of Playa del Carmen and local shopping and sightseeing. Spacious rooms and suites are playfully adorned with colourful tropical details and are distributed across the property in five two-storey buildings.

Location: Beachfront, 35 minutes from airport, 35 minutes to Cancun and 10 minutes to Playa del Carmen.

Nice Resort

This resort's location is great, situated between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, which makes for an easy and quick airport transfer as well as any daily excursions! The staff were wonderful and the food was amazing at the buffet and also the a la cart as well. The beach was quite eroded and seaweed polluted, but the staff was continually trying to clean up as much as they could. All in all this resort offers great value for you money!

Spring break visit

Our group travelled during spring break, which was ridiculously busy!!The hotel accommodated our request of putting everyone in the same building. Housekeeping was excellent! The little treats every night were a nice touch. This resort is older but I think they are trying to slowly update, without disrupting too many people. The food was fine. Buffets were almost always the same. Nice to have the option of unlimited restaurants. Mexican and seafood was fine, steakhouse was good. The 10 year birthday celebrations were fun. The activity staff worked very hard and got many people involved!Bartenders worked extra hard as the hotel was packed! Claudia and Jorge were so nice and always used my name, remembering my drink as well. Not sure how they do this when they see so many people each day!Our group felt everything about the resort was "fine". Not bad, not great, just fine. We felt we got what we paid for. However the one thing I Would say was great was how clean the resort was. With the amount of people drinking, one very rarely saw a dirty cup or empty can.

Overall great family vacation

We just got back from a 5 day all inclusive with my 6 year old son. We are a multiracial LGBT family and felt fairly safe there as long as we kept a low profile. My son was treated very well by all staff, kids club was fun and had activities he loved like zip lining, sandcastles and the kiddie pool and slide. Only suggestion is they have to encourage the kids to keep hats on in the intense heat, but they did have kids watch movies inside during the hottest part of the day. Checking in was disorganized -they need more English speaking staff during busy times like the crossover between check out and groups arriving. Rooms were nice, clean and comfortable, food was awesome, including for picky eaters as there is a lot of choice. I loved the Mexican cuisine and fresh fruit the most. Drinks were okay, sanitation not great at the beach bar as I watched how they cleaned the cups by swirling them in a tub of soap then putting them back on the bar as "clean". I ended up getting sick from something so I was thankful to have antibiotics with me. The pools were lovely and I appreciated when the cleaners came by as with a busy resort, pools get dirty. The resort is eco friendly with recycling, the convenient trolley rides in electric carts to get you across the vast property in the heat when you aren't up for walking. The Coati Mexican raccoons, beautiful birds and lush landscaping were lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful, I always tipped $1-2 American after meals and luggage carrying, but they were friendly either way especially if you attempted Spanish. Beach front was beautiful -I'm glad they are building more shade options as it's easy to get heat exhaustion there, they do need more umbrellas on the beach as if you've not "reserved" your shaded chair by 7am you are out of luck. We loved it and will return. Muchas gracias Blue Bay Esmeralda .

Family Vacation

Our vacation was great! We travelled as a group of 24, plenty of fun things to do, gorgeous weather & an amazing buffet. Special thanks to Gilberth, Santiago (buffet), Eric & Pehpeh (entertainment)!! They were so kind, generous and amazing hosts. Gilberth and Santiago remembered our drinks, welcomed us and were just so kind and accepting. Eric is very funny and so great to be around!! Very fun to do the activities with. Pehpeh was the highlight honestly. Such a sweet, funny, accepting person & a wonderful wonderful host. The buffet never failed, always great. We only went to one a la carte (Italian) extremely disappointing, don't waste your time there. The staff were always cleaning and so very nice to everyone. Love how hard they worked with smiles on their faces. Beach is murky but not a deal breaker and beware the coati's and racoons will steal your food! Happened to us twice! Overall it was honestly such a good time, so much fun to do with the kids and yourselves from spas to kids clubs to all day activities. Would absolutely recommend for a fun filled family vacation. The staff made this place the true experience, can not say enough good things. Thank you Blue Bay

Family Vacation

The staff was very hospitable, polite, and hard working. They went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and to make our family feel welcome. You can expect to be greeted with a warm smile and greeting anytime you encounter a staff member. Pehpeh, Santiago, Gilberth, and Eric were all very kind and went the extra mile everyday. They were sweet and kept everyone laughing and smiling! The room service, entertainment, and buffet service was incredible, our family members felt cared for and respected. The transportation services were quick and the staff was very kind. There are many activities at the pool and community spaces for children and teenagers. Over all, the staff is very hardworking, talented, good at their jobs, generous, friendly, and hospitable.
