Our Opinion

The Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda is a popular 4 star all inclusive resort with a spectacular pool area but a small beach. The complex is quite large so there can be lots of walking, although there are carts to shuttle people around which really helps. The food here is excellent with lots of selection in the buffet and a great Italian a la carte. The Spa is also another wonderful feature at this resort.

While this deluxe resort may be styled after an old Mayan village, it features all the modern conveniences of a world class resort. This stunning new property is part of the favourite Gala hotel chain and is located on a 350-metre stretch of beach - just minutes from the charming town of Playa del Carmen and local shopping and sightseeing. Spacious rooms and suites are playfully adorned with colourful tropical details and are distributed across the property in five two-storey buildings.

Location: Beachfront, 35 minutes from airport, 35 minutes to Cancun and 10 minutes to Playa del Carmen.

Amazing Family Experience

Our family traveled to the BlueBay Grand Esmeralda this July 2017 and our experience was wonderful! The support staff, especially Rupierta and Candito at the Jaal-ha restaurant and Wilian and Carlo "Charlie Brown" at the snack bar were wonderful to our family and our two young children! They really made our experience wonderful! The grounds were very well kept and workers were always taking good care of everything including the pool, beach and surrounding landscape. We traveled with an infant and were given a crib to use which was very helpful! The staff was very kind and courteous to all the members of our family! The food was wonderful and there was plenty of choice at all morning and afternoon buffets. The A la Carte restaurants (which can only be booked one at a time, the day prior) were delicious and had plenty of choices. Each had options for children that were similar to the theme of the restaurant. The drinks were great! Lot's of premium liquors so don't be afraid to ask for them in your drink! Also, around the beach pool was a popsicle cart - great for kids to cool down with a popsicle - and a beverage cart with soda, water, and cans of premium beer!Overall, it was a wonderful experience for our family and one that we will not forget!

Amazing holiday at Blue bay

We went here on 23 June for 2 weeks. We had an amazing holiday with no complaints from us.OK, room a bit dark and dated, but didn't spend much time in there anyway so not a problem. But the 2 queen size beds were to die for. So comfortable and sheets lovely and clean. Room cleaned every day without fail.We loved all the restaurants and had fab food every meal. It does get a bit tiresome eating so much after 2 weeks all inclusive, but how can we complain about that! Drinks were all fabulous. Top brands served no problem, you just have to ask when ordering. The 2 pools were lovely. They did have a bit of a problem with scum round the edge and some tiles did need a bit of a clean, but didn't put us off using them. The beach was lovely but we already knew there was an issue with sea weed. We went on the beach most days as it was so nice down there but avoided going in the sea. Didn't really bother us though as we prefer to use the pool to swim. This hotel has a bit of a hard time from people expecting too much luxury, but for us, for the price this was a great hotel. Beautiful grounds with great wildlife. But bring strongest mosquito spray as we got quite a lot of bites and we don't usually get bit!Shuttle bus into playa del Carmen was great and regular. Only took about 20 minutes to get there and cost 65 pesos each.Would recommend for your first taste of Mexico at a great price.

Stayed in much better

Room was nice and spacious and clean, pool on the beachfront was dirty and not kept clean enough and extremely rowdy and over crowded which often led you to leave and go to the not so loud pool but also i felt this wasnt kept to a standard that i would class as clean. The sea was full of seaweed and dirt which is the total opposite of what you would expect from the Carribean Sea so please be mindful of this as i have visited many nicer beaches in Europe!! There is a huge issue with Air Conditioning in that in the built up places being the main buffet restaurant and the black and white bar there is air conditioning but because of the building structure and high ceilings with gaps/holes in, it defeats the whole object and the temperate is really quite uncomfortable which leads you to not want to eat or drink in that environment and avoid them at all costs....the lounge bar is much better which we found ourselves there every night. The staff were very friendly and the site is huge so brace yourself for lots of walking around however there are limited golf buggys that can transport you if you are willing to wait around. All in all i would say it was very average bearing in mind we had such high expectations of Mexico and this hotel, it was pretty much a holiday which i could have got in Spain or Greece and not had to endure such vile jet lag. What i am saying is i would really have a think about whether this hotel is right for you as i for one will never return as we couldnt wait to get home.
