Our Opinion

Pleasant 4-star resort with friendly and attentive staff. The some parts of the beach might be a little rocky. However, there is a lagoon nearby that offers a better entry to the beach. This is a great place for those who want to discover sea life. The resort is well situated near to stores and the main Riviera strip.

Overview

This lively beachfront resort boasts fantastic services, facilities and amenities. Guests of the Catalonia will love the white sand and fresh water lagoon located adjacent to the hotel, a great place for small children to safely experience the sea.

Now I've finished sulking (kind of)

We arrived on November the 14th for what we were hoping would be a fantastic, fun, relaxing fortnights holiday & this is exactly what we got. The staff are amazing, they cannot do enough to help you and are always so happy. The rooms were more than enough for anyone on holiday and cleaned daily with the fridge being stocked up each day (the bed was amazingly comfortable). We visited every restaurant and we were not disappointed, the food and service were of a high standard. I carnt say enough posotive things about this hotel. We got what we were expecting and more. thank you for an amazing holiday, I would definitely recommend this hotel xxx

Another amazing hol at catalonia!

Well we have just arrived home from what I can only describe as another amazing holiday second year round at Catalonia yucatan Riviera Maya! I can't stress enough how fab all the guys are who work at this hotel and how at home you are made to feel from the minute you arrive until the minute it's time to leave! As a thank you for our custom for a 2nd year we were upgraded to vip from the original standard that we booked Which we were very grateful for!! Every day our rooms were spotlessly cleaned within a hour of us leaving.. the cleaners do a fab job.. always Leaving a little towel character!! Every morning we were given excellent service from our lovely waitress, Patricia in the El Mercado restaurant and equally great service in all the other restaurants daily. The staff are so friendly and happy! Lazy days.. cocktail in hand were fab the only little thing I'd have like to have seen was a more detailed menu around the pool and beach bars of alcoholic and non alcoholic cocktails as most of the time we had to rely on asking other guests what they were drinking and I saw a lot of this happening throughout the holiday.. although I do remember these menus were available on my visit last year!! I'd also just like to say what a great team of entertainment/activity team Catalonia have.. they work so hard to keep the guests entertained from early mornin with games, foam parties and sports till late evening with there fantastic shows and always with a smile on there faces! A massive thank you to Amando, one of loveliest guys wev ever met!.. and also to Javier... you both really are brilliant members of the team, never a dull moment!! We look forward to seeing you next year! The food again outstanding and the ala cartes which the hotel generously allowed us 4 visits each week no extra charge are delicious! Catalonia you have won our hearts and we left a little of our hearts there in mexico on the love monument until we return next year and hopefully join you for our wedding there In the next few years.. Nos vemos pronto❤

Very Average.

I stayed at the Catalonia Yucatán Beach Resort. First off, there was a lot of pressure to upgrade to "privilege" as I had paid for the more basic package (which still cost me a lot of money). Secondly, being a "basic" member and not "privilege" truly made me feel like a second class citizen. The staff most certainly treated me differently. I called the front desk because I had no iron for my clothes... they told me irons are for "privilege" members only! After arguing with them I was able to get my iron for 2 hours. As for the food, it was delicious. The beach is not fantastic but it is typical for Mexico. There are rocks in the water and many people did get hurt, including my boyfriend. The nightlife is fine. The shows were fantastic and the live band after the show was also great but there were never enough seats at the lobby to accommodate for the amount of people staying to listen to the live band. I was forced to leave the lobby because I couldn't find a seat and I wasn't going to stand for 2 hours. The resort, overall, is kept clean but the rooms need some renovations (I had some mold on my ceiling and on my mattress). The week stay was very average, probably the worst all inclusive resort I have stayed in. Although the excursion to Ek Balam and the cenote was amazing and did lift up my spirits!

We expected much more!

We have returned from a week’s stay here. We read many great reviews about the hotel and were really excited to be spending a week here. As it turns out, unfortunately, for us, the bad reviews were more in line with what we actually found on the hotel. We flew with Thomas Cook and once we arrived it was about a 1h 30min transfer to the hotel, having only stopped at one other hotel before. We did sit right on the front seats of the bus as we had read that this was the best way to ensure a quick check-in at the hotel. When we arrived, the hotel staff put tags on our bags and directed us to the check-in desk. As we were the first ones and did not have to wait we didn’t have any complementary drinks on arrival but we were so tired we really just wanted to go to our room. Check-in was really quick and Luis helped us with our bags.We stayed in the honeymoon suite, room 6106. When we arrived, we had complimentary champagne, fruits and Ferrero Rocher. The room was big and spacious, always kept clean and tidy. The bed was very comfortable and the fridge was stocked every day. The safe was big enough to hold our valuables and we never had anything stolen from our room, so safety wise we were very happy. We had a plunge pool on our balcony and even though it had a hot and cold tap, the water was always cold so it was only suitable for use during the day. The garden had a lovely dolphin design made of rocks but it did have some cigarette buds so it wasn’t really clean in that area. Our room was facing the road on the side of the resort but this wasn’t any problem as there wasn’t much traffic and the Windows blocked some of the noise. The rooms opposite to ours were facing the Abuelo Bar that was always very noisy at night so we did like the location. More than enough wardrobe space as well. The only bad thing about the room itself was the AC as it was very noisy and made it impossible to have it on during the night. Just leave it on before dinner so when you arrive the room is colder. Also, the bed sheets seem to be a bit too small for the bed as they were tucked in when we laid down and always came out during the night. We also only had towel arrangements on bed on 2 of the 7 nights, when our colleagues always had them. Not exactly meeting the standards for a suite when all the other rooms get them and your doesn’t. We were Privileged and we totally recommend this for everyone, it is worth the money as you get more A La Carte dinners, as well as access to the Pure bar and exclusive beach area, also a hydrotherapy session at the spa and you always get a table at the window at the buffet restaurants. The hotel size is perfect if you don’t want to walk much in between places. It has a lot of green areas and it is not busy, so good for relaxation. There were a lot of activities available during the day at the pool but we didn’t do any of these.Even though the hotel likes to advertise that they speak great English this is not true. We started our conversations in English and most of the staff would answer in Spanish anyway and expect us to understand. I did speak some Spanish but my fiancé didn’t. If we were speaking in English why would they answer in Spanish? They clearly weren’t comfortable English speakers, nor did they understand sometimes what we were saying.I do recommend you wake up early if you want to have a lounger by the pool or right next to the water on the beach as these get reserved with towels early in the morning. We always woke up at 07:00 and still had chairs available wherever we wanted.Beware of the pool area after 18:00 as they put a product to clean the water that makes it yellow. We went to the pool one day in the afternoon around 15:00 and my fiancés shorts that were white got full of yellow stains from this product that was still clearly on the water even though we couldn’t see it.The beach on the Privileged side is rocky but it didn’t bother me. If you are looking for sandy beach, then use the beach on the lagoon side and you will be fine. In front of the Privileged beach you can do some snorkeling, as long as you don’t go inside the area delineated. Many fish but not many different species. Some of the loungers on the privileged side had leg raiser part broken as well.We loved going to El Mercado Buffet for breakfast and lunch because food seemed to have more variety, staff were really nice and it was a lot less busy than the La Brisa at all times. Regarding the A La Carte Restaurants, we unfortunately didn’t have time to try the Tapas but all our friends loved it. The best was the Italian and Japanese (great show cooking). We absolutely hated the Mexican restaurant. Bland, flavorless food, staff weren’t friendly and helpful. Also, the food that we ordered seem to be totally different from the one we actually got. We left before desert as it was extremely disappointing.Great selection of drinks available, whenever we wanted them. Not much alcohol in them but we weren’t expecting it anyway. Now for the really bad things… We booked a romantic dinner by the beach with a lady from the staff that was making bookings on the beach. We specifically asked for it to be on the 17th of November. My boyfriend went afterwards to her and asked if any special arrangements could be made so that he could propose to me. Obviously, she didn’t understand him. When we went to have the dinner, we waited for 15min and nobody showed up, even though we could see the tables assembled on the beach. Finally, a waiter came and said he wasn’t expecting us. He then went to the reception and was told our booking was for the 18th. We were very upset as we had specifically requested the 17th! He said there was nothing he could do as he had a table for 10 people booked next to another couple’s romantic dinner. The dinner the next day was amazing, really good food and romantic setting, but obviously, nothing was arranged for my fiancés proposal by the hotel staff. As part of the honeymoon suite pack, we booked with the guest service to have a breakfast in the room and a romantic dinner on the Italian restaurant. We waited for 30mins in the room for the breakfast and again, nothing. We went to reception where they again said there was nothing booked. We waited for guest service to start and had to rebook everything. We were send another bottle of champagne for compensation but it is unacceptable to have so many things that weren’t booked properly. Very irresponsible and unprofessional from the hotel staff, and made part of our holidays very stressful. The romantic dinner at the Italian restaurant was lovely. We were on the balcony, separate from the other restaurant costumers. There was a wedding party on the hotel next to Yucatan and we were lucky to have dinner with some really good music. Food was very tasty, staff very friendly. We also had some pictures taken by the hotel photographer. We won’t be returning to this hotel because of all the bad things that have happened. We paid extra to be on the Honeymoon suite and expected to have been treated better. The hotel has great potential but it has to correct the problems that is has.

Love this place!

Just returned from my third visit to the Catalonia Yucatan and I still love it. Our room was great and nicely cleaned and tidied everyday. We had an issue with our shower that took a couple of visits from maintenance but they responded quickly when we called about it. The food at the buffets was good and lots of choices and we ate at three of the ala carte restaurants; Tapas, Italian and Japanese - service and food excellent at all three. Top marks for Jazheel at the Tapas restaurant who treated us so well and made my birthday dinner extra special. Also the hostess at the Tapas, Beatrice (I think?), so sweet and welcoming. Also, our chef at the Japanese Restaurant, Lucio, was terrific and lots of fun.The staff all over the resort do such a great job keeping the guest happy, rooms clean, grounds neat and tidy, etc. - they are very kind and always willing to help. As always, the bartenders were great and have lots of fun with the guests - shout out to a few of our favourites; Nazario, Miguel, Gerardo, Antonio and Nicolas. We did a couple of things for the first time this trip. We had spa treatment that was so lovely - the facility and staff are just fantastic. We also took the 20 minute catamaran trip which was great fun. There is a new ala carte restaurant under construction (B Love) so I'll look forward to trying that out next time I'm there. In summary, I like this resort because it's unpretentious, has well kept gardens, grounds and beach, clean rooms, it's not too big, and the staff are welcoming and responsive.
