Our Opinion

Desire Resort sells themselves as a "wonderfully exotic, erotic, adults only resort where each moment is an adventure". This resort is a couples only, clothing optional resort for adults 21 years and older. It is a smaller resort with only 110 rooms and of course caters to a very specific traveler. The beach area is nice but a little small and the same goes for the pool area. Rooms are nice. If you are looking for a resort with a nude beach in the Riviera Maya or Cancun, this is one of a very few options.

Overview

This clothing-opitional, couples-only resort provides a sensuous and unique concept. Couples enjoy the freedom from conventional environments at this secluded and vibrant premium resort. Every amenity of this sublime hideaway is designed to pamper couples with everything needed for the most memorable vacation experience of their lives: from exquisite powder-soft, white sand beach to gourmet dining, to new friends, nothing is overlooked. Desire Resort & Spa is the world's foremost clothing optional all inclusive resort, and it's mysterious allure has devotees coming back time-and-time again. For a tension-relieving weekend getaway or for an extended holiday, there is no place on Earth like Desire.

Location: Beachfront, 20 minutes from Playa del Carmen and 20 minutes from the airport.

Highlights
  • 21+ Couples resort with clothing-optional, racy atmosphere
  • Provocative entertainment featuring theme parties, "play room" and a lively nightclub
  • Nice white sand beach
  • Pool and whirlpool overlooking the ocean
  • Free Wi-Fi

Modest infrastructure but they more than make up for it.

Not a 5 star by any means but you're not there for gold plated toilet seats. It's not the most modern facility but they more than make up for that with their ambiance. NO single guys allowed, obviously. I was told no single females either. If true, they should change that right away as that would add some more energy. Hey, girls gotta have fun too, right? Couples, you know why you're there, so just enjoy it. It's a no pressure scene. Nudity is common but nobody cares if you need to cover up to avoid sunburn. I sure did at times. The liquor flows freely, I mean FREELY, but they should leave a bottle of hard stuff in the room fridge, not just a few beers and cokes. The place is kept really clean, try not to trip over the abundant staff. Without a doubt this place has the best hotel staff anywhere in that part of the world, maybe anywhere. They are detailed oriented with fantastic memories of guest's needs and preferences. They dote over you without being overly intrusive. Make sure you bring plenty of $1 bills to tip them, they go out of their way to earn it. The rooftop jacuzzi can get pretty wild during the afternoon, watch out...lol. Most of the rooms are quite small considering what you pay for so you'll just have to live with that. I'd be down for a firmer mattress, like a memory foam. Don't worry, they can afford it as they run at over 80% occupancy. I wasn't too impressed with this so-called "Maya Riviera" beach. Desires keeps theirs clean but the trash in the water flows south from Cancun, not the cruise ships, that the staff likes to blame. That's total nonsense. If you like to run on the beach you won't be doing that here, the sand strip is just too narrow in either direction along the coast. We were there for just 5 nights and blew off the whole time share meetings they try to sell you. Unless you have money to burn just say no and don't take their comeback offer for $500 in "free coupons" for this service or that. Most likely you won't even use them. Bail on all that BS. Don't fall into that trap wasting your limited vacation time in those meetings. Their gym is pretty good and the Spa building where it's located has good facilities. The pool scene is the center of attention during the day. Then it moves to the 30 person rooftop jacuzzi/bar later in the afternoon. The food is great and plentiful. The disco is OK. Check out its, "sin room" later in the evening, if you dare. In our 5 days there I was one of the few guests that actually entered the ocean and swam each day. Weird. When we were there it seemed most of the couples were into the soft swing or friendly voyeur scene. It's not really in your face, other than the nudity in certain areas and guests know when and where to cover up. My GF enjoyed herself and became popular with the staff since she speaks fluent Spanish and has an engaging personality. Many of the guests really enjoyed talking with her as well and it was a thrill for me to see that interaction. The age mix included some younger couples, even several from Central and South America. Big surprise there given the high cost. So that says a lot I guess. Would we go again. Yes, I think so, after I win the lottery.

Beautiful resort tainted by hard sell tactics

We made our first trip to Desire Riviera Maya for New Year's 2017. We have so many friends from Hedo II who have raved about Desire and we finally fit a trip into our schedule. We are experienced nude travellers who have visited many nudist and adult resorts in the U.S. and the Caribbean for almost 20 years. We don't have high expectations for luxury but we do enjoy all the usual creature comforts.First, it has to be said that the resort property itself is absolutely beautiful, extraordinarily well maintained and groomed. There are lots and lots of beach and pool beds to choose from, and it isn't necessary to race the other guests every morning to stake out a place to sunbathe, unless you have very specific requirements regarding shade, music, proximity to the bar, etc.Second, the housekeeping and service staff are among the best we have ever experienced. Service is fast and cheerful in every restaurant and at every bar. There is no shortage of helpful people who make you feel very welcome and relaxed. Thank you to all of the many people who made our trip so enjoyable! We had a garden view room and we have to say it didn't quite live up to our expectations. Our Hedo friends had led us to believe that Desire's rooms would be a notch up from the basic accomodation at Hedo, but we felt that the room we had was actually quite small and basic...Hedo rooms are a bit bigger. It didn't matter, we don't have high expectations or needs and it was very comfortable while we were in it.We have two negative comments, one kind of trivial and one major. The music around the pool was, at times, really awful. About 75% of the time we had to endure pounding electronic dance music, a genre we despise listening to. But hey, a lot of the other guests seemed to enjoy it so this may just be a personal taste thing. Our major complaint is the hard sell tactics employed to try to get guests to attend a sales presentation on the vacation membership club. Desire really needs to take a cue from their own rules for the adult lifestyle: No Means NO. Practice what you preach, guys! We've attended vacation membership club presentations in the past and we've discussed our future vacation needs many, many times. Our minds are absolutely made up. We will never, ever listen to another one of these awful sales pitches and we will never, ever buy a vacation membership. They are proven to be terrible investments, and we have no interest in tying ourselves to any particular place or style of travel. Our style is to pick a resort and pay as we go, no commitments to ever return. So Desire was completely wasting their time and ours by trying to get us to attend the "presentation" on their "concept".The sales pitch was all old-school hard sell tactics. It started at the front desk, when after travelling for 15 hours we had to endure the first pitch offering us free dinners, wine, massages, etc. if only we attend a breakfast presentation. The hotel check in process forces you through the first sales pitch because its the only way you get a map of the resort. We hadn't even seen our room, or the pool, or the beach when we reluctantly agreed to a breakfast meeting just to get away from the front desk and get to our room.Once we relaxed, had a drink, unpacked our suitcases, we knew that we would have to retract our agreement to attend the meeting. The next morning on the way to breakfast we were confronted by V., the salesperson. We told her that we had changed our minds and we would not attend a sales presentation. We thanked her and explained carefully that we had zero interest, that nothing she could say would change our minds, and that it would be a waste of her time and ours to go through with the presentation. She whined and complained and said we were breaking her heart. We managed finally to get past her to go to breakfast, and we were so irritated that it took the shine off the wonderful food. The next morning V. once again confronted us and begged us to attend the sales pitch. She said something about being compensated on a points program and that we were hurting her results. Again we said no and fought our way past the lobby to go to breakfast. On the third day it got really creepy and annoying. V. again stopped us as we passed the lobby and told us that she and her manager had been reviewing our bill (WHAT!) and noticed that we'd had massages already. V. offered to pay for those massages for us if only we would attend her presentation. When we said no, she said "But why not? You haven't given me a reason why you won't come." This really annoyed us because we had in fact told her the reasons with some care at least twice before. We couldn't believe that the sales department was monitoring our activities and it felt like a real invasion of privacy. The final straw leading to us feeling we needed to write this negative part of the review occurred on the fourth day. Sarah returned to the room by herself after breakfast, and I followed her a few minutes later after I finished my coffee. When I got to the room she was nearly in tears. A man she hadn't met before had jumped out at her as the passed the lobby and prevented her from passing by. He introduced himself as V.'s manager and gave the same tired old hard sell pitch "why won't you attend? You have nothing to lose. You haven't given us a good reason why you won't attend!"Now, we have to stop right there to make the analogy to the adult lifestyle. Everyone knows the adage "no means no". This doesn't mean "No, and here are my detailed reasons why not." We aren't required to tell you why we say no, it is sufficient to say no. This is basic etiquette everywhere that adult lifestyle people gather. The Desire sales staff violated this rule 4 times during our stay. It made us uncomfortable, and it strongly detracted from the entire experience.Fortunately, the wonderful service from all of the kind and friendly staff, and the great food and amenities couldn't be spoiled by a few bad apples. We're not sure whether or not we'll return to Desire. At the end of the day we think that our hearts are more happy at Hedo II, but we have no regrets and we're glad we gave Desire a try.5 stars for the quality of the resort and the entire service experience, minus 2 full stars for putting us through the gauntlet to begin 4 out of the 7 days we were there equals an average rating of 3 stars.

We had a great time at the resort. The staff was awesome as was the facility and food. What a great place to visit. We can't wait to go back for more. Every one of the staff members were extremely nice and went out of their way to make our visit outstanding.

Nice Adult resort!!!

Everything was great. Beautiful property. The staff is very friendly. We stay in ocean view room on second floor. View is awesome, but room is small and that luxury for price point. Nice food. Good entertainment. Staying in December 2016, traveled as a couple.

Sexy Photo Shoot by Onsite Photographer Antonio Andrack

Antonio Andrack did a couple’s photo shoot for my wife and I while we were at Desire Resort & Spa this past December. It was not only our first visit to a clothing optional resort, but our first professional photo shoot together. We were both a little bit nervous, but Antonio put us right at ease. Not only does he have a wealth of experience, which helped us look our best, but his friendly nonchalance and professionalism calmed our fears and put our minds to rest. Antonio took even more photos than he’d promised and he and his assistant, Monserrat went the extra mile by editing any photos we asked them to tweak. We so appreciated their attention to detail and patience with the entire procedure, from picture taking to book selection. We would highly recommend Antonio and his team to anyone wanting a risqué keepsake of their holiday.
