The property was beautiful, the room was wonderful. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic, really enjoyed the daily specials. The butlers were all attentive to our needs and requests. Raul and Dorian were two people we would single out as being very warm and gracious.
I am writing this review in the hopes of sparing someone else the absolutely horrific holiday that I have had to endure. It started off with them forgetting to pick me up at the airport ,even though I spoke with someone on the phone two times. There were cockroaches running everywhere and people screaming. When I was finally able to contact the hotel instead of apologizing and trying to correct the situation, They accused me of not making a reservation even though I knew the rates and that they would charge me for two even thought I was one. I also had an email verifying my confirmation. They still made absolutely no attempt to right the wrong. If you are the type of mindless tourist that this hotel seems to attract ; overweight completely unhealthy, smoking and would like to take advantage of the endless drinks then by all means book your stay. If you're like myself, someonewho actually tries to eat healthy diet one the does not contain 5 pounds of sugar a day then do not book this hotel. The food here is abysmal, you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig. The food quality here is so low that I've been sick for the past three days. Everything is genetically modified full of refined sugar and it is impossible to get anything to the contrary. All of the meat is laden with hormones and the sauces take stale and moldy. My request for just a simple thing like yogurt with no sugar was impossible. Even the juice they serve in the morning is from concentrate and full of refined sugar. I HATE this place with a passion. This is no four seasons! The staff are kind but not accommodating, I tried to get a simple request of cranberries but this was impossible. I asked for cranberries for three days and still no cranberries ( I need then because I now have a UTI from all the GMO sugar). Once settled into my hotel I definitely realize that this was a Mexican five star definitely not the four seasons. The hotel has a stench of rotting wood and termites everywhere. You are completely unable to get anything that resembles customer service. When I booked my reservation I noticed that there were private tubs for each room and because I love to take baths I was excited about this. That was until I discovered that there is no hot water at this hotel. That's right I'm here in January and there is absolutely no hot water! There was a Jacuzzi by the pool that is also freezing cold, Numerous times I asked to have them turn up the Jacuzzi which still got it mildly lukewarm but nothing even close to hot. When I contacted the front desk to let them know that I had no hot water not even in my shower they sent someone over to turn on the hot water and explain to me that that was hot. No correcting this situation just that is their definition of hot water which if you live in the USA will not be adequate.I have asked to speak to management numerous times, and I am still saying at this hotel.
AMAZING PROPERTY, amazing customer service, great food!!!!I have traveled extensively and this, by far, it the best resort I have visited including several in Cancun and Playa Del Carman. We were looking for a romantic get away and we got that and more. I would highly recommend the property!!!(Bartender Armando and Bar Waiter Juan were amazing! You order you first drinks and these guys keep them coming!)
We stayed here January 2 - 6th, 2017 to celebrate our anniversary and my husband's 50th birthday. The resort more than met our expectations and was the nicest all inclusive we have ever stayed at hands down. Loved that it wasn't buffet and we could order off the menu. Our prior stays have been with kids, so it may not be a fair comparison but this place blew away all of the others. We booked through Costco and had some issues with the transfer. I am not sure what was going on but we waited well over an hour and it was very chaotic with lots of unhappy customers (Best Day Travel was the name I believe). Once we got in the van, it was a 45 minute drive (in heavier traffic than we have normally experienced), but when we arrived we were checked right in and at no time did we feel any sort of sales pitch (not at any time during our stay). I have to note in all fairness, our transfer back was prompt and smooth. Within 15 minutes of arriving, we were at our Junior Cenote Suite and it was gorgeous and huge. Glass walls, huge bathroom and huge bedroom with a large space between. Champagne was waiting for us, mini bar was stocked, etc. and the room was clean and everything in working order. The bed wasn't the softest thing but that does not bother me at all. The outside tub isn't full but they explained that they are made for one use and were warned it wasn't "warm" water but wouldn't be cold... at any time we could have had them fill it. We didn't and also did not rent bikes or visit the spa (despite 2 vouchers for massages) but this was because our stay was short and we were enjoying the pool, beach and restaurants too much. The staff went above and beyond and the beach was gorgeous and the food was phenomenal. Neither of us had one thing that we didn't like and it all seemed much healthier than offerings at previous all inclusive resorts we have stayed at. Even the drinks were healthier (no mixes, fresh fruit juices, etc.). For example you could get a coconut at the bar and have fresh juice or mix it with rum. I had a pineapple daiquiri and it was just fruit, ice and rum. Overall the staff was great, no complaints at all. They do not come around super often at the pool beach for drink orders but they did come around if you wanted to wait. And, the bar is right there so it was no issue. We loved being able to not have to fight for chairs and even were able to get a cabana when we wanted. It definitely is not a bit party hotel but the pool bar stays open until 1AM. Props to Antonio for making my husband's 50th great and all the knowledge about Tequila and overall great service. Same goes for Luis in Aquamarine. Both of the restaurants and the snack bar were great. We dined at them all and never had bad service or bad food. The waiters were very helpful in suggesting what to order and we were so impressed with every detail as far as presentation, creativity and taste. They aren't huge portions like we get in America but it was more than adequate. I was totally full after each meal and gained 5 lbs in 4 days despite all the "healthier" options and smaller portions. It was just so good that we couldn't miss a meal or afternoon snack. We did go into Play Del Carmen once and have been there before but found ourselves wanting to return to our hotel! If you have not been, you should venture in for some shopping and sight seeing. It is a great little town. We paid $15 or 20 each way US (pre-set rate) I believe (and is a 10 - 15 minute drive). As others have said, the resort is about a mile from check in to the beach. We loved the walk down a jungle path but not once when I was walking did a golf cart not go by and offer a ride. You could also get bikes but I wanted to get the steps in and twice got up in the morning and just ran to the beach and back before breakfast because it was such a nice way to workout (though humid!). We visited the cigar bar once but it was pretty quiet. The beach is gorgeous and you can walk quite far South. If you want to go the other direction, the walk is a little more difficult as the beach gets quite narrow and you have to trespass into another resort (they didn't seem to care). One disappointment is that the peers was closed so while they it is in promotional pictures, you can't venture out (at least while we were there). We noted the other resorts were the same way. I would hands down stay there again and will be hard pressed to get my husband to stay anywhere else. Prior to this we have visited the Riviera Maya 2 other times, Cancun once, Cabo once, Jamaica & the Dominican Republic. Before this trip, my husband was very impressed with Iberostar (and I loved Sandos) but this place trumped them both. I don't get anyone complaining about it! Quiet and relaxing and beautiful but enough fun too if you seek out other guests/ bartenders/ waiters, etc. and enjoy the company! On that note, the drinks were great. Nothing we wanted wasn't included which is a huge bonus compared to some other places we have stayed. I actually liked the wine and any liquor we wanted was available. The beer was fine too. I'd love to go back for a longer vacation and enjoy the wine tasting and the gym/ spa and take the Catamaran out, etc. Our time was just too short at beautiful Blue Diamond!
We spent a wonderful week at Blue Diamond Resort north of Playa del Carmen on the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. All inclusive, adults only, seems best for couples- ages seemed to range from 30s to 60s. Quiet, private, secluded-beautiful property, originally a Mandarin Oriental. Property is long and narrow extending from beautiful beach over 1 km to lobby, with lagoon, cenote and beautifully maintained natural landscaping. 128 suites total, of which about half were occupied during our stay. Our junior cenote suite was very large, and beautifully appointed. Bed was very good as were linens. Outdoor covered patio adjoining bedroom. Bath included double rain shower (which sometimes took some time to heat up adequately). Outdoor large soak tub adjacent to large bathroom. Although there are some accommodations at or near the beach, most are away from beach. For those who don’t want the walking, bicycles and golf carts are available. Beautiful spa and fitness facility near lobby. The gift shop has some beautiful, unique and very reasonably priced local items, including clothing, jewelry and gifts. Two main restaurants – Aquafina at beach and Ambar for dinner away from beach. Both were outstanding in creativity, quality, taste, presentation, and service. Quality of included wine and liquor was good. Some evenings included small musical presentations at Ambar. This resort does not offer larger theatrical entertainment. Smoking is not prohibited, but there were not many smokers. We visited the cigar lounge (open air above Ambar) one evening and were the only two people there for the hour we spent. The staff was always friendly and almost always immediately responsive. This is a beautiful place to get away and relax. We were there second week in Jan, and weather was warm, but sometimes quite windy and some rain. The wind did close down some water activities, but didn’t interfere with our vacation. We thought the resort offered excellent value, and we look forward to returning to Blue Diamond.
