My fiance and I stayed for 14 nights at this beautiful hotel on 28th Aug. From the moment when we arrived at the hotel being greeted by Vicktor the Bell boy to us leaving we were made to feel special. We arrived during the hurrican period in Florida but this never dampened our stay despite the odd day of heavy rain and winds. We were up graded to the junior garden suite which was spacious clean and we experienced the most amazing wild life in our garden most mornings. It was like having our personal zoo. The standard of cleanliness was high and fresh towels and bedding were done regularly, with the chamber maids calling in the evening asking if fresh towels were required. Little touches such as the beds were turned down for the night and a glass and bottle of water on the bedside cabinet. Another nice touch you were supplied with a very large beach bag, they kindly gave us another when the zip broke. The mini bar was always topped up and if you needed ice just a leave a note and it was done. It would be nice to maybe have a mosquito net over the bed as we often woke up to fresh bites! Our first morning we were greeted by Luis the business associate who explained about the hotel and its many facilities that they had on offer; his happy presences every morning when we went for breakfast would start our day, always enquiring how we were and if there was anything we required, He sorted a blown bathroom bulb for us and any issues we may have had. We booked a trip through the hotel which was professionally done and the good information. The pool bar staff are happy and cheerful bunch, Jorge, Carlos and Ricardo. Ricardo always put a smile on your face with his cheerfulness, jokes and dancing. The cocktails were to die for. The boys got to know your favourite drinks and before you got the towel on the sunbed the drinks were ready. Bottled water was always in a ice bucket with out having to ask by the sun bed.The staff around the beach and pool area are very hard working making sure beds and umberellas are in the right place for you, the seaweed cleaned off the beach so as not to spoil the idyllic view. They would also decorate the pool area for the evening entertainment. My partner was unfortunately bitten by a local fly which made his hand swell, being anxcious about the condition of his hand(this was evening)he went to see the night concierge. Francesca and her colleague were on duty and reassured him that it was common and in a few days the swelling would go down but if he felt he needed medical attention in the morning they would organise it. The next morning Francesca came to find us to see how his hand was and this was repeated on other occassions. The restaurant staff at Aquamarina are the best, happy, accomodating and genuinely want to make your eating experince memorable, nothing is too much trouble for them. Sandra with her cheery smile and interest was always a joy to see at breakfast and lunch, Pedro with his knowledge about Mexican coastal areas and patiently teaching us Spanish, Rosa at the evening meals taking time asking how our day had been, the waiters, Oliver, Xar (who was cheery and never forgot our names) Luis and all the others too many to name were fantasic. There were themed evenings with good entertainment, the fire acts were amazing. We also ate in the Amber restaurant which is A la Carte, again the food was of a very high standard. The beach bar and resaturant is good for light or snacks but with all the restaurants the portions are very generous. All the bell boys were great fun and the drive to the resturants were full of chat, David always made us laugh with his little antidotes about life. The Spa is beautiful and clean; it would have been nice to have had a unisexed jacuzzi indoors as the spa facilities were seperated for men and women. We had a lovely couples massage with Rosealina and Laura, we felt totally relaxed. I used the gym most days and the gym facilities are excellent, air conditioned and equipment in good and clean condition with a wide varity of equipment to use. There were classes in Yoga and aqua aerobics. The only let down was the pool could have been a little cleaner as other than the occassional net cleaning and daily inspection we did not see it cleaned and often there would be a thick film on the surface which was a little off putting. We were fortunate to see Esmeralda and a her baby crocodile the 2 naughty monkies who I was able to feed and the bold Coati who would come down for breakfast and the evening meal.Overall this hotel has given us a holiday we shall never forget with its beautiful setting and its beautiful people. We have come back fully relaxed and with happy memories; despite the mixed weather but this added to the atmosphere and the resiliance of the staff to make sure the guests were not bored and accommodated.Marcella you have a wonderfully run hotel with excellent staff who are a credit to Blue Bay holidays. We hope to be visiting you again in the near future.
My wife and I stayed 5 nights and 4 days. First I'll start with the pros. Bar and restaurant service was great, however like other posts, be prepared to somehow bring some cash. Bartenders by far were the best thing followed by the food, steak house was perfect. Every time you needed a ride anywhere all you would have to do is call the front desk, and within minutes a ride was there. One hidden gem was the spa. There is a small private pool along with a hot tub, which was fantastic and you didn't even have to have an appointment. Bathroom was nice and large with a private toilet. Wet bar was refilled everyday (which is odd being in an all inclusive). The resorts snorkeling guide was great and took us to nice viewing areas. Also the resort was quiet and relaxing. Now to the bad.The wet bar may have been filled everyday but, my wife put used champagne glasses and empty bottle in the bar thinking it would get cleaned out, she was wrong the glasses were still there the day we left. The comforter had little funk smell to it, which I thought was just due to the ocean, but never did find the reason other than never being washed. The blinds were dirty. We were supposed to have a turn down service everyday, clean the rooms and bring fresh towels, also everyday, never happened. Only one roll of toilet paper, once out, we had to call for more. Our room was never cleaned, sheets NEVER replaced and us having to go to the front desk ourselves to get fresh bathroom towels. Again, after the third day, we called and asked to have our room cleaned, we were told that they were short staffed and would be there when they got time. After a while one lady came with a mop, bucket and a broom. We set up an appointment for the spa outside to be filled one day at 3 o'clock, didn't get filled until we called the following day again stating we set up an appointment the day before and was never filled. We rented bikes the first day and they came to us with flat tires. One of the bikes broke and was taken away and a replacement was never brought back. (The bikes were at no cost so wasn't a huge deal, but still would have been nice.) We did not have WiFi in our room like we were told we would. Also a few more food options would have been nice, don't get me wrong having a nice steak or fresh fish is great, however sometimes having it everyday can get old. Half the shops were closed and did not have a great selection on men's items, the shop in front did not have any XL shirts and had only ONE... and I mean 1 large shirt. The dock to the gazebo was closed and looked like it had been for a while. Overall, we did go on the off season but we did not expect to not have things like fresh linen, and the things listed above. The resort could use a once over and new paint and a upgrade on a few things. After coming back and looking at the photos the resort pictures look like they were taken before the place was open the public. Nothing like what we saw with our own eyes. However, it is a nice place to get away from kids.
Excellent food and drink. Nice hotel. The pool by the beach was a bit small. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. The part I really did not like was the timeshare salesmen trying to sell us on a timeshare. It was almost relentless the first one to two days. We see this a lot lately in other hotels too. We go there to vacation and not to be accosted by salespeople. Fortunately it stopped after we complained.
My husband and I chose Blue Diamond for our honeymoon at the end of July and couldn't wait to get there! We arrived late Wednesday evening and were welcomed with a warm greeting from at the front desk and from our butler. Upon arriving to our room (palafitos suite) we noticed that there was a loose tile above the outdoor tub that looked like it was going to fall at any minute. Our butler made note of it and said it would be fixed the flowing day. Our first day was great, we spent it on the beach and rode our bikes to explore the resort. When we got back to our room there was a bee hive right outside our bathroom, where the tub was located, totally random, but they informed us that they wouldn't be able to get to it until the following day so they offered to switch our room. We ended up moving about three rooms down. Our first night in our new room, we noticed that it was much warmer, so we let the butler know that the air conditioner wasn't working properly. They said someone would fix it while at the beach....not so much! That night we were just as hot as the night before. The next day we called again before a sunset cruise to let them know we were still having issues with the air, in addition to letting them know about the air (again) we ordered food to come before we left since we were starving and the cruise would just be serving a snack. The lady proceeded to basically tell my husband that he was wrong and there was nothing wrong with the air....annnnnnd on top of that the food never came! Our butler apologized and offered to switch us back to the first room we were in after they cleaned it. So we were on the move again. Once we returned from the cruise they had moved our luggage over so we were able to go straight to our first room. We get there and the tile that we mentioned to the butler on our first night, did exactly what we thought it was going to do, it fell and shattered in the tub. There was also a dead lizard stuck to our bathroom wall. We understood that we were in the "jungle" and bugs come with the territory but there was no reason for a dead lizard to be in a room that was just cleaned. As if that night couldn't get any worse, it did...we ordered room service and my husband's burger was not cooked at all! (it was literally raw and mushy on the inside). The next morning my husband requested to speak to the GM Garrett. He of course apologized and ended up offering us a couples massage (mine was great but my husband's was just ok) and they ended up moving us (yes again) to the beach front casita, which was great, they really are gorgeous and highly recommended! In addition to the upgrade, Garrett said that we would be receiving one free night at check out. At this point, we thought everything had been rectified and we were able to enjoy our last two nights. Upon checking out we spoke with Garrett and the front desk agent who explained that since we booked through expedia, they would be the ones to give us the refund and proceeded to have us sign a paper explaining that. We asked for a copy of the paper and they said it would be emailed to us. By the time we got home we still hadn't received the email. My husband has called at least 5 times to asked for the email and/or to speak to Garrett and each time he is in a "meeting" or unavailable and has never called back nor have we received the email or our refund. This definitely was not the dream honeymoon we envisioned and we definitely wouldn't go back to this resort. *Note: I did have pictures of the broken tile and the raw food that we took to show the GM but as mentioned before we thought the situation was rectified so unfortunately we dont still have them Pros: Overall the food was good (in the restaurants, not room service)Bartenders and waiters were awesomeGrounds are gorgeousBeautiful beachPrivate snorkling tour
We had a wonderful stay in the Blue Diamond, even if we experienced a storm in our last days there. Staff is very welcoming and accommodating, we loved going through the different atmospheres, the cenote, the sea, the spa, the little gardens, feeding the monkeys, biking everywhere, the different restaurants, the beautiful rooms. Magic everywhere. To be honest, everything was top. The only thing that they have to work really hard on is the leaks on the roof. You can realize that this hotel requires a lot of maintenance and it's normally well taken care of, so it was hard to understand that we had 3 leaks inside our bathroom and some others on the restaurant, when we are talking about a very humid area. So it kind of rained inside too, which is very uncomfortable if you are trying to keep yourself dry.We were disappointed about the spa too because even if it had a great potential, the steam room and the temperature of the water areas were not working. It was kind of abandoned actually. I hope they take this more seriously, because it matters a lot for a spa-hotel experience if nothing works there as it should.Anyway, besides that, it was perfect. I would still happily go back anytime.
