Gorgeous Resort With Superb Food and Service

My wife and I just returned from a week at the all-incusive Blue Diamond Resort. We booked our trip through Costco Travel and the rate was quite good. We were upgraded to a higher level “Cenote” room as part of our package. The room was very big, the bathroom was enormous with a double sink and two huge showers, and our deck was surrounded by lots of lush growth with a view of one of the lagoons on the property. The bed was very comfortable. When we returned to the room for our last night, the bed and bathroom were adorned with lots of rose petals. It was a short walk to the beach or a quick ride on one of the many carts that transported guests or on bicycles provided by the resort upon request. The room was well-equipped with a well-stocked mini bar with 4 bottles of liquor, beer, juice, soda, peanuts, M & M's, coffee and tea – all included. A bottle of Mexican “champagne” was waiting for us upon arrival and it was surprisingly good.This is a beautiful resort with excellent food and service. We have absolutely no complaints and had a wonderful vacation at The Blue Diamond. All of the staff were welcoming, warm and friendly. The waiters were absolutely wonderful and provided attentive service. We had especially great service from Pedro Solis, Dorian, and Fidencio. Herminio never left his smile from his face. Ricardo at the pool was especially attentive and friendly. Carmen and Francesca in the concierge office were extremely helpful. We accepted a tour of the property to explore the possibility of joining a membership club and received a free massage and a lovely bottle of tequila to take home as a thank you for the opportunity. It was interesting to see the entire property, which is swept and kept pristine every day. The property is gorgeous with lots of thick tropical growth.We saw lots of native wildlife including spider monkeys (one even sat himself on the rail of our deck one evening), agouti, badgers, and lizards. The resort included various activities and we went snorkeling with our guide Alejandro who was very knowledgeable and helpful as we are not great swimmers. We also had a lovely couples massage in the very beautiful and large spa. Unfortunately we did not take full advantage of spa facility – maybe next time as this is an all-inclusive resort we would definitely consider a second trip to. We have read some very negative reviews of this resort. We know that all resorts will have some negative reviews. There were some minor things that could be improved, but so minor as not even to be mentioned. Some people will magnify these as if they should have had the perfect and flawless vacation. Nothing in life is perfect. Ours was about as good as it gets!

Beautiful location, great staff, delicious food!

I will start with all the good things about this resort. I love the location. We stayed during spring break and it was nice to be away from Cancun in Riviera Maya. The drive from Cancun airport was about 40 minutes and went by quick. The resort is large with a peaceful jungle setting. The staff overall was very welcoming and so kind. We spent the most time with the drivers (on golf carts) and waiters. Nefi is one of the drivers and always made us laugh and have a good time. When he said he would pick us up for dinner, he always showed up on time. Great guy and they are lucky to have someone so loyal working for their resort! He made our trip fun and memorable.We loved the food. I am gluten-free (not by choice but serious allergy) and they were very careful with my food. Every time I ordered I told them that it must be gluten free and they accommodated me every time. Even brought me some special bread without me asking! My husband and parents loved the food as well. The drinks were great and we never had to wait to get a table at any restaurant. Some things they can improve:It took F-O-R-E-V-E-R to eat meals at this resort. I know that I am an impatient American but I don't want to take 2 hours to eat. We would sit down and it would often take at least ten minutes just to bring a menu, another ten to order, another 10-20 to bring out the first course....let's just say that if you are hangry, it takes way too long. We have stayed in other resorts in Mexico and I don't think this is common. Another down side, is that we stayed a long way from the beach. If you can, get a room that is close to the beach. We stayed in the Cenote rooms. Beautiful rooms, but a long hike to the beach. They gave us bikes, but they were in really bad shape-almost flat tires, rusted out chains, etc. The pool area is very small, if you want a nice big pool to hang out at, go to another resort. Keep in mind, you do have the beautiful ocean to swim in and they bring you drinks right at the beach. Also, it can take a while to get things fixed or delivered to the room. On our last night, the door key system stopping working completely. They finally got us in the room and were supposed to show up the next morning to fix it but never did. This forced one of us (my husband) to stay in the room so that we would not be locked out again before our checkout. The SPA is WAY TOO expensive. We received 25 minutes massage with our Costco deal and added on 25 to make it a 50 minute massage. They started the massage 10 minutes late and ended at least 5 minutes early. We basically paid $85 each for 20 minutes. It was a great massage, just too expensive for me. We might think of staying here again because the grounds are so beautiful, great staff, and good food. But we would stay by the beach and pray for faster meals! I would give 5 stars for grounds and ambiance.

Great couples getaway

We spent a week and had an absolutely great time. The staff was super friendly and attentive. The food and drinks were first rate and no waiting for anything. I just can't emphasize enough about the staff they made our stay very enjoyable.

Beautiful location, beautiful staff

My 27 year old daughter and I just finished a 4 day stay at this resort. The resort is on the ocean. The higher numbered units are closest to the beach (units in the 800s are closer to the beach than the 200s and the 800s appear to be right on the beach). This is my 4th all inclusive resort in the Caribbean and it would be my favorite recommendation for a couple who wants to be in a small intimate setting. You will get a lot of privacy. The resort is very low key - no pressure, no selling, no up charges and no children at this adult only resort. Most guests were male/ female couples however we were comfortable as mother / daughter and there were some same gender pairs as well. It was easygoing. The food is incredible and you will want to savor your meals and enjoy them in a relaxed fashion. Plan an hour for each meal. There is no rush and you will want to savor every bite.You have 3 restaurants: Ambar, Aguamarina and Ceviche. Ambar is open at night and is the most elegant. You may need to get there before 7 pm to snag an outdoor table. Ask if Esmeralda the crocodile is there- very cool! Aguamarina is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It has wonderful food. No buffets at this resort! However skip the nachos at Ceviche which is a casual restaurant on the ocean. That was the only 'American' bar food we had that was blah and we could have skipped it. In the morning, ask for a breakfast pastry, enjoy a wonderful juice drink, latte, fruit plate, Mayan eggs, and the white and dark crepes. It's a fantastic meal. Why not start it all with a lovely mimosa? For lunch, the sashimi and seafood soup, mussels, shrimp brochettes, and paella were super. The brownies are delicious. Portions are reasonable (European size) which leads to less overeating. At dinner we tried the barbecue at Ceviche (reservation needed for BBQ). The scallops and shrimp BBQ were great. We had a lobster dinner at Ambar which was delicious (Costco included item and requires a reservation). We had scallops and sea bass. Ambar could benefit from more staff- they seemed to have less staff there than Aguamarina, which seemed very well staffed. The employees are lovely- the butlers, servers, spa employees. Pedro, Torino, Saqueo, Minha, Xarius, Octavio, Dagoberto, Jorge, the super nice breakfast and lunch waiter who worked with Torino, we are sorry we can't remember your name!) Rosario, and Silvia were wonderful. I'm only naming a few of the outstanding employees. They work very hard to serve the guests to make your stay really memorable and do so with a wonderful and happy attitude. Our Costco trip included a great 25 minute Swedish back massage which was very nice. You can use the spa facilities free of charge- steam room, cool pool with jets, relaxation room, sauna (not working), large rainshower, outdoor pool and hot tub. We also had a nice bottle of champagne upon arrival on our room and some fresh fruit. The water is a gorgeous turquoise color and seems very clean. It can be windy and we had yellow and red flags during our stay. We traveled through Costco and I upgraded to a palatino junior suite. It was very quiet and private. We were on a small lagoon. We had an outdoor deck with 2 chairs and a table and 2 lounge chairs. The bedroom was spacious with a table and chair and extremely comfortable king size bed. The closet was spacious and included a nice bag for the beach and a well stocked mini bar. Our butler asked what we liked so had extra water and wine. They have wonderful Nespresso coffee in the unit and hard liquor, beer, soda, juice and some snacks in the mini bar. We tried to sign up for yoga and snorkeling but it was full the entire time. Sign up upon arrival if that interests you. The beach is huge and very nice. The waiters will bring you beverages and can set up umbrellas for you. Be sure to tip the staff- bring USD $1s, $5s and $10s. (They have atms on the property if you need cash.) The lobby can change usd but will only give you pesos in return. I would suggest you have $10-20 a day for tips depending how much you ask of staff (morning housekeeping, evening turndown service, servers at the restaurants, butlers and luggage handlers, spa employees, beach and pool attendants). You would never be asked to tip however it is greatly appreciated and tips may be what many employees live off of, if what we heard was true about the daily wages at most of the local resorts being $4-5 dollars a day. Some of the property could use a little maintenance or repair but it was perfectly fine, very clean, and well attended. If you are in a unit far from the beach, many guests used bikes which can be signed out to you during your stay. They have carts that drive people around if you like. We preferred walking to burn off the great food! Blue Diamond was a great location with fantastic gourmet quality food and wonderful employees. I would definitely go back! Employee watches you sleep

The management of the property has left a lot to be desired for. It all started nice with rose petals on the bed and a Honeymoon sash across our door. The first night we came back to the room from the pool to get ready for dinner, we noticed the room was hot so we tried to turn down the A/C. The thermostat did not work. We were getting ready to leave for dinner, so we tried to call the front desk, but the phone did not work. I ended up having to use the cell phone to call the front desk and asked them to send someone to check it out. Upon returning from dinner and hanging out on the beach we walked into the room, still hot, I am talking a good 4 hours we were gone and they did nothing. We tried to call down again, still the phone did not work, so we called from the cell phone and they said they would send someone. We proceeded to wait, and wait, and wait, until we got fed up and called again an hour later. This time someone was at the door within 5 minutes. He came in climbed up in the roof and turned the air on. He then started to look at the phone, and switched it out with another outlet where it worked.The room finally began to cool off and the next morning they brought breakfast in bed, part of the Honeymoon package, which we set up on our deck overlooking a Cenote. We went down to the pool and beach to relax all day, it was fantastic. That evening we had a great dinner at Ambar on the deck. We came back to the room after dinner and got ready for bed, pressed the do not disturb button, placed the do not disturb placard on the door, and locked the latch on the door then went to bed. Until at 5:00 AM we heard the door close, my wife and I both jumped up and there was an employee standing in our bedroom. Not sure why he was there, he didn't say anything just ran out of the room. Both of us were in a little bit of shock and could not fall back to sleep.We are not complainers, A/C's don't work sometimes we understand that. However, when we were awaken by someone entering our room at a time they had no business being in our room that is complaint worthy. We proceeded to go to the front desk and asked to speak to a manager. We were told she was in a meeting till 3:00, this was 9:00 am. They tried to ask us to come back at that time to speak with her. Having told the front desk what happened we were a little surprised that whatever meeting the manager was in, they did not go get her. We asked that the manager come find us at the pool, we were not going to wait around all day and lose a day of vacation.3:00 rolled around and no manager, we went to the concierge and they said she was on the way. 3:30 no manager, again went to the concierge and they said she was on the way. 3:45 the manager shows up. She came over and asked what we wanted in a cold manner. We simply asked if she had been told what happened that morning. She confirmed that she was told and then proceeded to tell us that security checks vacant rooms to make sure people do not break in (ours had a do not disturb sign, honeymoon sash placed there by the resort, and interior deadbolt locked). She said it was a simple mistake, again note all the things we did to indicate we did not want to be disturbed and that the resort knew the room was not vacant. She offered to move us to another room, "upgraded", but not until the following evening. We moved three different times. Extremely disappointing. Typically we don't complain about minor things but when you add all of them up along with the man standing in our room at 5 am, we had to say something.
