Our Opinion

Dreams Puerto Aventuras is a smaller resort, but keeps up with excellent service and amenities that one would expect from a Dreams Resort. This resort is popular with families and couples alike, however singles might prefer a larger hotel with wider range of guests. Definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a quality resort. If you're into swimming with Dolphins, there is a dolphin encounter on site as well as the nearby Dolphin Discovery located in Puerto Aventuras.

Tired resort, bad food, too small, but fun for kids

Hi,This is my review of Dreams Puerto Aventuras. If its of any use to you please like it or thank it or whatever you do on Tripadvisor as its been a while since I’ve left a detailed review and I’ll use the responses to see if its worth me writing more.We are a family of 4 with 2 boys aged 4 and 6 and we travelled out to Dreams PA in Mexico on Tuesday 25th July and returned on 5th August. We were there just shy of 2 weeks. We booked it through Virgin Holidays. The flight was fine. But bear in mind when you arrive at Cancun airport you have a 2 hour transfer to the resort. This is if you go by coach and drop others of at other hotels on the way. If you were to go direct by car/taxi you could probably do it in hour.So…. The resort:Checking inWhen we arrived it was late. As we had small kids with us it took us a little longer to get to the check in desk so we had to wait for around 15 minutes to get checked in. It was a relatively smooth process and we’d been given a room on the 7th floor. It turns out this an upgrade to a “preferred” room. On the 7th floor you have your own private concierge and a dining/meeting/eating/drinking room just for you 7th floor people. (we never saw anyone at the desk though, and the lounge seemed a little pointless). The roomWe found the room to be quite small (especially as its advertised as a suite) and not at all like we had seen online. We asked for an extra bed, which turned up around an hour later. The standard beds are very high in this hotel so you may be concerned if you have small children. The floor is tiled (and slippery) throughout. Air con was on in the room and it was reasonably cool. The kids went straight to bed and us adults got room service. The food was pretty bad.The next day we asked if we could be moved to a room that looks like they do on the website (with a sofa and some space). We got moved to a ground floor room, which was much better. Bigger and direct access to the kids pool area which was handy. The aircon in this room wasn’t quite working correctly though. It just kept getting colder. The room got down to 15 degrees most days. The only way to warm it up was to turn the air con off. This has the knock on effect of condensation though which makes all the floors even more slippery.About half way through our stay the roof starting leaking in bathroom. Water was pouring out of the light socket. After about 4 hours of various people looking at it in a bewildered state and saying words such as “water” and pointing, they asked us to move rooms. We moved to a different room on the ground floor, which was smaller but still better than the one on the 7th floor. In here the aircon went to 18.5 degrees. A little cooler would have been better, but it was better than being freezing.Overall I’d rate the rooms as 2 out of 5. They’re just all a bit tired and dirty looking. If we didn’t have kids then I’d maybe give them a 3, but the slippery tiled floor and high beds doesn’t work well for small kids. The beds also weren’t very comfy.Kids clubThis is brilliant. They’re great with the kids. I can’t praise them enough. However do bear in mund they make it clear kids club is not a babysitting service. Your kids will watch movies in the day, and don’t rely on them to put sun cream on or do other ‘parenty’ things. It’s not say they won’t put sun cream on, just don’t rely on it, rely on yourself to go and check. When the kids go for meals with kids club, the kids do eat whatever they choose. I saw kids having jelly for lunch for example. So again, don’t expect them to feed your child a balanced diet. They will have exactly what they want.Kids club gets a 4 out of 5, just.FoodAwful sums it up really. The buffet is horrible, and is the only place to go for breakfast. Some of the a la carte places are average at best for dinner. The coffee shop is ok.The only restaurant that is air conditioned is the Italian (and not well air conditioned). So expect to be hot and humid wherever you eat. If you go anywhere but the buffet for dinner after 7pm you will queue, 45 mins or so for a 4. Some bigger groups were waiting nearly 2 hours.Food gets 1 out of 5 from me.DrinkIts ok. It’s all inclusive so you can’t really complain. If you like Corona you’re in for a treat. If you like cocktails you’ll be rather disappointed – its not the same when they come is a heavily stained (from dishwasher) plastic glass with no straw or decoration. Drinks get a 3 out of 5.SunbedsThis is the worst feature of this hotel. I don’t understand why they just don’t fix it. There’s enough reviews on here talking about it. If you want a sunbed and any shade you need to be out reserving them before 7am. Otherwise you’re not getting one. End of story.0 out of 5 – just put up more shade and buy some more sunbeds!!! This is so simple to fix.PoolsOk. Not deep. And very very noisy. And very busy.OK though and kids enjoyed them.3 out of 5.Sea/beachNot bad. Small beach. And the part of the sea you are allowed to swim in isn’t very deep, so don’t expect to go far. But its ok. When the sea weed comes in though you’re stuffed. They had a team of 5 or 6 fella’s continually removing it but it didn’t seem to make much difference. When its in, its in. So if you don’t like seaweed and you want to go in the sea, don’t go to this resort. Strangely the resort next door didn’t seem to suffer the same problem. This could have been due to the tide or it could be that they cleared it at night (Dreams only clear it during the day) on some of our early morning sun lounger missions we saw many bin liners on the beach.2 out of 5.StaffThey’re all very nice. But you can’t have anything that isn’t standard. So organising a late check out was a pain for example.3 out of 5SpaReally good actually. Don’t pay the list prices though. The list price is $219 for an 80 minute massage. We paid $100. And probably could have got it cheaper if we’d haggled further.4 out of 5.Overall:We’re not going back. But it was quite cheap for what you get. So really, you end with what you pay for. If you can’t afford a nicer resort, and you’re coming over from Europe, then I would suggest you stay in Europe, save money on the flights and go somewhere nicer.I was actually very disappointed as the disparity between what this place is like and what Virgin Holidays sell it as being like. They’ve lost a lot of integrity in my eyes and I probably won’t use them again for the inaccurate description of what this place is really like.2.5 out of 5.Hope that’s of some use to some of you. Happy travels all.

Over all average for couples but good for families

My boyfriend and I went here last summer for a quick getaway last summer and enjoyed it pretty well. Food was good .. the grounds were beautiful, rooms were fine. I was not crazy about the beach (not great for swimming - too shallow) I also am opposed to the dolphin show and wish people would stop swimming with the poor creatures so others would stop profiting on their captivity and torture.

Nice Resort

This is a smaller but great resort. Its located inside a gated community. Food is excellent and service is great. The staff works very hard. The beach is small but perfect for little kids.Location is beautiful. The rooms could use an update but nothing You cannot manage with. The water and drinks were safe.We had tons of fun. The fire and water show is brilliant.

Mexico 2017

Resort was nice and clean. The bathroom where tub needs to be regrouted but It was dealable. The food was good at the specialty restaurants. The fish soup at the fish restaurant oceana would have been great but they gave me a shrimp with eyeballs. I couldn't eat it as it was staring at me. Anyways the dinner buffet was not my thing I always felt food was just warm never hot. The morning buffet was great though. The grill outside was great pizza, burgers, hotdogs. Very good. Italian place was great. Real fresh mozz as appetizer and there bread was amazing. Mexican place was also great food. Room service was great with the exception of having to wait over an hour for it so if you plan on ordering just order a head of time. I felt as if there desserts were blah. The coffee shop was awesome with lattes, Fraps, espresso. The entertainment was great something was going on everyday and every night. Always poolside entertainment. Foam party at the pool was also cool. We brought floats for the pool and ocean and they worked out great. Went to spa and got massages and they were awesome we even went in the spa jacuzzi and had the best time there. Everyone is friendly and always extremely helpful. The staff was amazing. Shout out to Mario in the morning buffet for always getting my juice and coffee. The staff was very attentive of always making sure I had a drink in my hand. They made sure we even had dry towels at night before we went to bed. Chocolates on bed every night and a bottle of champagne on the first night we arrived. The grounds were constantly being cleaned. They were scrubbing the concrete with bleach and cleaning the beach picking up the seaweed. These people work extremely hard. We had a wonderful vacation here. Despite the bathroom grout and the dinner buffet, the experience was great. They have a bar with swings around it which was pretty cool, outdoor movies at night as well. Great place for a relaxing vacay. The palm trees were beautiful as well as the grounds and birds chirping. Beautiful resort overall.
