Our Opinion

Dreams Puerto Aventuras is a smaller resort, but keeps up with excellent service and amenities that one would expect from a Dreams Resort. This resort is popular with families and couples alike, however singles might prefer a larger hotel with wider range of guests. Definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a quality resort. If you're into swimming with Dolphins, there is a dolphin encounter on site as well as the nearby Dolphin Discovery located in Puerto Aventuras.

This place has a lot to offer

We went here last week (Nov. 6-13) and were well pleased. First of all, it is compact and not spread out. Nice beach, lots of beach chairs. Family pools and adult only pool.Great staff. Friendly and helpful.Only resort in Mexico that I have been at that has canned beer (five varieties) , two kinds of draft beer, top shelf liquor, great service by waiters and bar- tenders.Great Bartenders. Manhattan, anyone? The rooms are clean and comfortable. Food is good. The outdoor grill has hamburgers, hot dogs and wood fired pizzas. All very good. Usually these items are not so good at Mexican resorts but these were great.Five specialty restaurants, mostly okay but sometimes a wait.(40 minutes) I guess my favorite was Seaside Grill. The Sushi Bar is that , not a table-like grill. Sushi= raw.Coffee shop is great.Free sailboats rides. free scuba lessons, free snorkel gear. All very unusual. free kyacks (spelling?). Free dolphin show!Great entertainment in lobby nightly. Live music.Good place for families with kids. Great kids programs.Lots of rain on two days. I far as I know, little or no rainy day activities for adults. Weddings were drowned out. Moved indoors though. Two beach parties for all during our stay.We stayed on the ground floor. Great for access but the hallways resound with noise during the days and early evenings.Good housekeeping. Rooms refreshed and serviced twice a day. Beer, soda, water in room in fridge. TV is good, (but who watches TV except on rainy days?)The complaint about lamps from another reviewer is correct but my two were repaired immediately by a young tech who know what he was doing. (The wires are spliced)All in all, I thought it was a good place to stay. There were a lot of kids, if that bothers you. (and I'm 78 so it should bother me but it doesn't)Don't buy anything off the wine list, (EXTREEMLY OVERPRICED) The house wine is good.Don't do the Tequila Tasting either. Just my thought.I would go back.Digital safe in your room, Robe and slippers there too.

A Nightmare in Puerto Aventuras

We were supposed to stay a week at Dreams Puerto Aventuras 11/5-11/12/17. After 1 night we checked out and moved Paradisus La Esmeralda. I don't understand the positive reviews for this hotel. The place is old and dingy with a "beach' that is about 40 yards long. The room that we received had holes in the blackout curtain, a rusted lamp, marks/scratches all over the mirrors as if they were cleaned with sandpaper. The floor tiles in the hallways were chipped, the elevator had an 'Up ' and an "Up' button and the banister in the stair well was extremely wobbly. After much complaining, even involving the Amstar rep, first the front desk manager was able to find a new lamp and he had the blackout curtains changed. Of course the worker changing the curtain was kind enough to place old filthy one on our bed while hanging the new one. Eventually we were given the choice of two new rooms that we could move to.The new room also had mirrors that apparently were cleaned with sandpaper and had a lamp that wasn't rusted, it was just crooked and had its WIRES SPLICED and held together with electric tape. I guess it was a bonus, there was no on/off switch, so you had to unplug it to turn it off and you could get sparks for excitement. We had stayed at Dreams Cancun about 5 years ago, before it changed ownership and became the Hyatt Ziva, so we expected lousy food. We were not disappointed. The buffet is extremely small, so small that there was a 25 minute wait for breakfast. The service was terrible. I had to bus my own table, moving my dirty plates to other tables because they were still there after I returned from the buffet and waited 5-10 minutes. Everything was luke-warm at best and barely edible. We ate dinner at the Seaside Grill. My steak was served way past well done even though I ordered medium and it was cold when it arrived. My wife sent her cold food back. It wasn't worth the trouble to me. The empanadas arrived cold and soggy - sounds delicious ;). The pool is very small and the beach seems like a man made inlet to me. It is very tiny and the resort looks nothing like the pictures. The I have no idea what the shows were othe rest of the week, but the 1 night we were there the show started with a “magician???” doing card tricks on stage. The audience was able to see this great magician by watching a pair of hands and a deck of cards on a movie screen. Does that sound like a show – watching a pair of hands??? This great show was followed by a female performer letting us know that she’s from Canada (about 50 times) doing some silly tricks using a bullwhip to chop some flowers in half followed by a really bad “escape” trick.I have to assume that most of the positive reviews are from people who have never stayed at a nice all-inclusive so they have nothing to judge this place against. Overall, it is old, dingy, in need of numerous repairs and has terrible food and service. First I can't belive that Cheap Caribbean has the nerve to call this place a 4.5 sun resort. At best this is 3/3.5. I would like to thank Cheap Caribbean for helping us get out this Nightmare and re-booking us at Paradisus La Esmeralda. For the small difference in price per person per day, it is amazing that these places rate only a 1/2 sun difference. If I help just one person stay away from this place, my time writing this review will have been worth it.

What a beautiful resort!

The smallest from all of the Dreams resorts and the nicest one! It's right on the small beach and in the beautiful lagoon, so you can snorkel right there with the colorful fish! There is no long walk on the beach, because of the lagoon, but you can walk out of the resort and walk along the marina with some shops and small restaurants, as it's in the gated community with other resorts. Great entertainment team and kids club. And they have the real pizza oven right on the beach every afternoon. The best pizza I have ever had!!! Will be back!

Free drinks...you will need them!

I am writing this as I am sitting in the sports bar watching a toddler walk all over the pool table. This is a nice resort with a ton of toddlers who are ok during the day but at night be prepared to eat dinner with screaming kids who run around the tables. The all adult dinning is included in this. The dress code is enforced for breakfast buffet dinning but dining for adults only is not. If your week is rainy like ours has been be prepared for no entertainment. This is a beautiful resort with an outstanding staff but if you do not want to spend your vacation with a bunch of small kids go elsewhere like I will be doing.

First all inclusive resort

Overall my wife, mother, two girls and I had a wonderful time on this trip. It was our first time to Mexico and first all-inclusive resort. Mexico was wonderful and the people were very kind, we will be back! I really thought all inclusive meant everything, but I learned it is the basics with some additional options for a charge. The bad- things like complementary green fees also involved $30 club rental and $90 cart rental after 1pm. We understood the tips were included, after talking to others at the resort, tips are still greatly appreciated and you will get better service and drinks if you do tip. We stayed on the second floor, which also has the show time theatre and lobby. It wasn't every night but a few had extremely loud music or noise coming from these places, making it hard to get kids to bed before 11pm. We just adjusted and tried to keep gorls up later but I know we were not the only ones bothered by this. We stayed on the ocean side which was nice, it does get loud during the day but our girls were fine with patio doors shut for a nap. The one Mexican restaurant would have to be the last choice out of all the other options we had due to quality of food there. The great- absolutely outweighed any negative and I know it's been said on these reviews but the staff were very adamant on taking care of everyone. The entertainment crew of Giovanni, Berenice, and Mitzi made the whole time there full of non-stop activities that provided much enjoyment, thank you three. David on the night crew was wonderful and so was Romier at the bell desk. Always remembered names and asked if they could do anything to make our stay better. The food was pretty good for almost all the meals and we never ran out of options. The place was very clean, including the ocean water I've read complaints about. I would recommend looking around the area and outside of Puerto aventuras for any supplies, prices were tripled or higher for basic stuff in the area. Things like snorkeling and kayaking were all included but limited to the use which I was unaware of, I would recommend getting your own if you enjoy this stuff. We didn't understand the rules exactly but our plan for our last day there before leaving to airport was swimming in the ocean but we were not allowed when the red flag was up. This was around ten am and it wasn't the first time these rules limited guests from being in the ocean. I would love to go back this this resort for many reasons, the great points made the little frustrations unimportant. I just had a different idea of all-inclusive. Was a great place to take family for all ages. We did not use the explorers club but we saw them doing activities and would have felt safe leaving our girls there. Any rumors about Americans and safety in Mexico were never a concern for anyone in my family. We will be back to Mexico soon!
