Our Opinion

Dreams Puerto Aventuras is a smaller resort, but keeps up with excellent service and amenities that one would expect from a Dreams Resort. This resort is popular with families and couples alike, however singles might prefer a larger hotel with wider range of guests. Definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a quality resort. If you're into swimming with Dolphins, there is a dolphin encounter on site as well as the nearby Dolphin Discovery located in Puerto Aventuras.

A Very Pampered Vacation Indeed..

Right as we stepped into Cancun with a transition from 30 F to a 79 F , the apple vacations crew in their blue and flowery shirts took great care to check us in with no fuss and into our buses heading to the resort. It was a 1.5 hour drive and the driver and our host did well to talk about the Dos and Dont's (the tips on using pesos or the credit card was good). There was another surprise for us when we stepped into the resort as they led us to the 'preferred club' checkin as an upgrade for our anniversary. Gabriela Perez our Concierge was so elegant in explaining to us about the resort, talking us through what we can expect and took excellent care of us- it was just like meeting a family member in India. She was the first face of the resort we saw and she is amazing. Kudos to her for setting up the stage , reserving our dinner making little exceptions for us due to our kid and travel plans , reserving a taxi and being at our service always with a smile n warm heart... Gracias GabyThe Explorers club was also a gem so that our 3.5 year old was taken care by 'Patsy" & 'Liliana' with great care - he didnt want to leave the club :) The restaurants onsite are good and particularly the world cafe (awesome service from Jose) and also the mexican El Patio restaurant. I would surely return for the warmth and the only small -ve was that the hot water stoppage for sometime but not an issue at all !! Thanks and we are planning to return soon

Amazing Stress Free Wedding Experience!

My husband and I were married at this resort in mid November. We stayed from November 16 - 23. In total there were 51 adults that stayed here and one child just over 2 years old. This resort is amazing! The people who complain about this resort are just here to complain. We had an absolutely spectacular time here with all of our friends and family. We spent most of our time at the adults only pool (dominating it most days) as it was far easier to get a drink from this pool bar given the lack of people. The family side was fantastic as well as we did have one child with us. The beach was beautiful. The wedding coordinator Cesar was phenomenal! He replied quickly to all my emails and was absolutely fantastic upon our arrival. He walked us through everything and took care of everything. I can honestly say that on our wedding day I did not have to stress about any of the details. I was able to just show up for my hair and make-up appointment and then spend the day getting ready with by girls in my room. Our room by the way was fantastic! We received an upgrade to an ocean view room and my oh my it was gorgeous! With that being said if you are someone who likes to sleep in or likes the quiet perhaps the ocean view is not for you as it overlooks the beach and the family side so the kids and music get going fairly early (didn't both us though!). The room service was amazing and the bartender on the 6th floor who did the evening shift was phenomenal! I'm terrible and I can't remember his name but he was AMAZING! The resort ran out of Pacifico the last couple of days and this bartender was great for us bringing us the last few cans he could scrounge up. He (and all staff here) truly went above and beyond. The only thing I can recommend to look out for if you are having your wedding there would be your final bill. The only reason I would recommend to watch out is people are humans and human error can come into play. Our contract stated that we owed XX amount of dollars and when I went to pay the final bill I was told I owed $500 US more than what was stated on my contract - they said this was because of the exchange rate which makes 0 sense - the exchange rate does not affect the total dollar value I have left owing. Regardless I was told I had to speak with the wedding department which I promptly did and to the hotel's credit Zoe came up with my contract in hand and the highlighted amount I had left owing (which was $500 less than what they had told me at the front desk). I'm not blaming anyone I'm just letting people paying their final bill know that you should make sure you're aware of what you owe and don't pay it blindly - make sure you know what you should be paying. Other than that one minor thing which was corrected immediately (there was no arguing or anything at all) we had 0 issues with the resort. All of our guests loved the resort and we had an amazing time! I heard only one criticism from one of our guests and that was that the resort doesn't have your typical lobby bar - they only have the desires lounge which turns into the night club at 10:30 so there's not really a place to sit in the lobby and relax and chat with friends all while having a bar to service you that's relatively quiet. All in all this resort was fantastic - canned beer! No draft! We all loved it! Will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family and people looking to do a destination wedding! I cannot say enough good things about this resort and the staff!

Family vacation

Family booked a vacation at resort. My daughter and her husband booked 4 months in advance. Booked ocean view with double beds. Upon arriving they were given a ocean view with one king bed. They have two children 9 and 11. Were told to make do with the SMALL pull out couch. After several discussions they were moved the next day to a room with double beds. They also were given a sheet of paper stating they were not quarantined a room with double beds. They should have stated that at the time of booking. We were told they had a rom with double beds. My husband wanted book golf at the resort. The concierge was not the least bit helpful. She insisted they book at a resort 20 minutes away. Told the price was $75.00 per person but upon arrival they were charged $90.00 per person. They both had brought their own golf clubs. I asked the concierge about purchasing Retina. Was to.d it cost $75.00 for a small tube. I declined stating I have purchased Retina in the past for $30.00 for a large tube. Walked 3 blocks to the pharmacy and was able to purchase a large tube for $40.00. The food was average. Restaurant choices were slim. Beach was small and the grandkids could not paddle surf. We will not be going back to this resort

Treated so well we began to feel guilty!

My wife and I were looking for an all inclusive at a good price but also could help us with scuba diving excursions as well as a trip to Xichen-it'za (the Mayan pyramid). We booked through Delta vacations via Carla at Travelfaire Travel Agency in Dunwoody, Georgia. and stayed from November 6th through the 13th. Upon arrival, we were met by a Concierge who new our names, offered us a flute of champagne and then immediately escorted us to the 7th floor and introduced us to Gabrielle, better known as Gabby. We were seated at her desk where she began to explain our amenities as well as how to contact her for the slightest need. Let me state that we upgraded to the preferred level which is the 7th floor. It has it's own lounge serving breakfast each morning and premium drinks throughout the day as well as bedtime snacks in the evening. We also chose an ocean view room as opposed to the marina view. I encourage the reader of this review to pay for the upgrade; it is so worth it! Our room was cleaned twice daily along with special touches such as bed art or rose petals. The view from the room was spectacular and you could see the island of Cozumel in the distance (see pictures below). This is a family friendly resort yet there is an adults only pool and restaurant on the other side of the building. Yes, all pools have a swim up bar! I will forgo the finer details and review on the important aspects as well as give some valuable tips to make your stay a lot nicer.Food: There are several restaurants on premise, some of them require reservation and a mild dress code (no tank tops, long pants and shoes for men and at least a swimsuit sarong for the ladies). One of the most amazing things was the wait staff would always ask if anyone had any food allergies. When was the last time you went to a restaurant that was that attentive? There was never a disappointing meal on premise from Portofino (Italian) to Oceana (Adults only seafood) to World Café (B, L and D buffet) but if you order the Molcejete at El Patio (if you have to ask, you shouldn't be in Mexico) you better show up with a huge appetite! I will say that the only negative we saw was the cost of Tequila by the bottle was higher than duty free or at home but let's face it, you are on a resort so that goes for anywhere.Pools, and spas: As a Certified Pool Operator I could not have been more impressed with the cleanliness of their pools as well as the upkeep. You will have no problem allowing your kids and loved ones to swim in them.Beach: You know this is a special place when you wake up at the crack of dawn and see a team of people raking the sand and picking up even the smallest debris. The water is clear and with barrier monuments about 2oo feet off shore, you don't have to worry about large waves wiping out the family or your significant other. Even in November, the water temperature was above 80 and the diving was phenomenal (again, see review on Pro Dive Mexico). There is a natural tidal pool on premise and it's a great place to take a drink and soak in the sea water especially with a swing bar next to it (don't get any ideas, the swing bar has swings surrounding it). It's also a nice place to hang out after dinner.Diving and excursions: See my reviews on Pro Dive Mexico and Xcaret Tours.Personnel: Most people do not give enough credit to the staff and personnel at a resort but trust me, the people at Dreams Puerto Aventuras Resort and Spa will make your trip all the more memorable. They treated us so well, we began to feel guilty....well almost! Seriously, if you are not used to it, it can be a bit overwhelming.Gabby was always there to insure everything was to our liking and to assist us in our feeble attempts at speaking Spanish (more on that in tips). I think it is her personal goal to make you feel like the most special person in the world. She more than succeeds at said goal. The Front Desk Concierge of Francisco and Alfredo were helpful to a fault. Don't let them catch you trying to lift, tote or move your bags. They will come running over and move it for you. It was always nice how they always knew our names. Moises at the Swing Bar knows every drink imaginable; better yet, let him introduce you to some new ones you may not have heard of. If you do stay on the 7th floor (DO IT!!!!) You will find the lounge staffed by Will, Jaciinto and Jessi. All three of these professionals take pride in the meals, drinks and service they provide. Teo is your wine and tequila sommelier and is very skilled in his pairings. Last but not least, if you want the best hearth fired pizza, go to the Barracuda Grill and have Josi make it for you. You will NOT be disappointed!Security: Puerto Aventuras is a secured community and so is Dreams Resort and Spa. We felt very safe there at any hour. The few times we rode in a taxi (set up by the resort) we found that the drivers had to leave their license at the community entrance and pick it up on the way out. Tips: First to anyone who is monolingual, download the free App called Duolingo and start learning. It is a fun and easy app to use. It is a known fact that if you at least try to speak Spanish it is deeply appreciated. We did and made an attempt to learn peoples names and to ask about them, their families and where they were from. It honed our skills and feel we were treated even better. We were even told that some guests come down and complain that the staff has an accent. Think about that, the guest is the one with the accent!!!! Be nice to the personnel and they will be nice to you. If you want good customer service be a good customer. If you want out-of-this-world customer service, be a good customer and at least attempt to speak the language and get to know your staff.Try to make your reservations for certain restaurants at least 24 hours in advance. You will not be turned down especially staying on the 7th floor as you have priority reservations. The water there is filtered and is safe even for immunosuppressed individuals; I know, I am one. However, if you go to Playa del Carmen, Cozumel or on any excursion, take a "Life Bottle" or any other kind of water filtration bottle. We were always provided bottled water but it's nice to know you have that as a back up. 'Make sure you use Dreams, Delta Vacations or Pro Dive Mexico to book your excursions. That way you are assured that things will go as planned and if for some strange reason they don't, you have someone on site who can address the issue. Go to your bank and get some of your cash converted to Pesos as there might be some places that do not accept the U.S. dollar or other currency. We did not find one but it is still a safe measure. In conclusion, if you want a wonderful and memorable vacation, stay at Dreams, Puerto Aventuras. The premise and food is wonderful but the professional staff is out of this world!

Great Overall Vacation

My husband and 2 children came to this resort the first week of October. We had not been to the Cancun area previously. Based on reviews I knew this was a great option for our family. Pros: Smaller resort means easier access to everything.Food was really good in the restaurants. Activities were good overall. The size and amenities in our rooms were perfect. Lots of space for stuff and kids.Liked doing Yoga Stretch on the Gazebo out in the ocean each morning. Fun Activities staff. Friendly employees.Easy check in process and ride to hotel. Inside a private community, so felt safe. Dolphins right outside our room and able to see and take pictures. Nice to have onsite excursion such as this. Bartenders were fast at making drinks. The bathrooms water pressure is outstanding!I really liked the room set up. Loved the beach and ability for children to stay in a smaller area and safe. Loved Sand Volleyball games, could keep an eye on kids during them. Swing bar is neat. Had two weddings on same night, so music was conflicting, but they were both beautiful and I would love to have a wedding there. They know what they are doing.Loved the children's club and all their activities. The space was great for them.Loved the included Catamaran and Kayaking. Took kids out and they loved it too. There is a little shack just past the property line that did affordable massages, facials and braiding. I got a massage one of the last days. Wish I had found this sooner as I would have gone 2 more times. Lifeguards were nice and helpful when my son got a piece of sea urgent in his foot. The water and beach sand were AMAZING!! I could not believe all the beautiful colors in the water. The sand was soft and it barely felt like you were walking on anything. It was kept clean and beautiful the entire time we were there. Cons: Restaurants wouldn't open on time.Drinks were weak. I would have 10 and feel nothing. Would have liked some better liquor options versus the cheapest stuff around. But they did always taste good. The adult pool was super boring. No music, no activities, no people, no rafts/floaties. The buffet was not good except breakfast. Also they need to identify if something has peanuts or peanut butter in it. First night, my son had a chocolate dessert of some kind, than spit it out as he realized it had peanut butter in it. Luckily he was okay. They had asked if we had any allergies, we said Yes, Peanuts. So why did they ask if they didn't inform us that the one dessert on the children's buffet was full of it. Just odd. Rooms really musty smell. When we came home, every thing in all of our suitcases including the suitcases had a very sour moldish smell. I took everything out immediately and washed it all. Everything was also damp. I didn't really notice while there but when we got home it was HORRIBLE. We had to air out all the suitcases. They need more drawers or one set in each room. It was hard to find a place for everything and most of our clothes had to stay in the suitcases. Rooms did not get cleaned everyday nor did the bar get restocked everyday. Gym was very small but worked. Could have a few more games and prizes for guests. That makes it more fun.NO ZIP LINE and NO BIG WATER TRAMPOLINE. We were all looking forward to both of these. Did not care for the Children's Club staff. Rude several times to me. Blamed me for something they didn't do properly. I said, I can't do that if you don't tell me I need to do that. This happened twice. I had to bite my tongue a few times for the sake of my children's happiness. They also paged us 20 minutes before 10pm, thinking something was wrong, we ran to the kids club. Nothing wrong, just wanted to tell us the movie was over and to pick up our children. If you say it is open till 10pm, than you stay open till 10pm. If we are not there at 10pm, than you page us and let us know we need to come get our children. This was very rude in my opinion. Wish there were better food options for children at the sit down restaurants. Other reviews said to bring water shoes, we never wore ours. We never went too far out to the coral part. We were in the pool most of the time. We did bring our own sand toys and pool floaties for the children. They sell them there for a LOT of money, so bring your own if you can.Several of us got a horrible rash, so I had to buy some cream there. Again, bring your own everything if possible. Daughter got bit by something and had HUGE itchy bumps all over her legs and arms, like 23 of them, I counted. It was horrible. Luckily we only had a day left at that point. I do wish they would put the Sun Dial near the excursion counters where the boards are that show the sun dial for the day. Instead I had to go up to the lobby every single day to get one. It was out of the way and not in a consistent place. They do bring vendors on property, but don't expect a deal on anything. Priced high. Not a lot of opportunities to go outside the resort as it is in a secluded community with little shopping options. We weren't there to shop so that didn't bother us. Overall it was a really great trip! I would recommend this place to families. I can not imagine going there with just adults, I would be frustrated with all the children. But we did meet several adult only couples and groups and they seemed to be having a great time regardless.
