Our Opinion

Dreams Puerto Aventuras is a smaller resort, but keeps up with excellent service and amenities that one would expect from a Dreams Resort. This resort is popular with families and couples alike, however singles might prefer a larger hotel with wider range of guests. Definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a quality resort. If you're into swimming with Dolphins, there is a dolphin encounter on site as well as the nearby Dolphin Discovery located in Puerto Aventuras.

Good time with the family

So this was our first trip taking our kids (all boys). Resorts are fairly limited when taking three kids anywhere and My husband and I enjoy smaller resorts - so we chose Dreams Puerto Aventuras. The rooms were nice and clean, staff was very friendly and the food was so-so. The Portofino restaurant was AMAZING this is a must, during the day your best best bet is burgers and pizza at the grill by the mini golf - everything else was just ok. Breakfast was very busy in the buffet but decent. There was one we didn't go to on the adults side and the El Patio Mexican restaurant was so-so. The Seaside Grill we only had lunch at and it was a very long wait and the food was just ok. Although, the beach is small - it is very nice and the water has so much sea life to explore! The kids had a great time snorkelling. As with most resorts, get up early and get a chair. My advice is to get one up on the point passed the dive shop. Nice breeze for hot days and you won't be disturbed by the daily activities going on. Which leads me to my first con. At least 5 days out of the 7 we were there - they would begin clearing the beach mid-afternoon to set up for supper and by clear the beach I mean move all the chairs and the people. This was a bit annoying since you come to Mexico to lay on a beach and then by 2pm they are forcing you off it. I'm still unsure of why they couldn't have found a better solution to this. This is why we started sitting on the 'ledge' passed the dive shop because we were never bothered over there. The dive shop guys were great, visit them and book a trip! They have free scuba tryouts in the pool once in the morning and afternoon. Kids thought that was good. As far as the dolphinarium goes, it was a great experience. However, I think you are best to book right at the dolphin place and not through an agent. I booked at the agent in the lobby (Amstar maybe?) but I think it would have been a bit cheaper just to book directly at the dolphin place. They seemed to have better exchange rates than the hotel. We didn't participate in the Explorer Club, at 7, 8 and 10 my kids weren't interested in it at all. They did however do the water activities everyday with Jorje and loved it. My second con is that although the resort was small enough if something was going on, you usually knew it - there seemed to be a lack of information posted about what was going on and what they did have posted didn't seem to be updated very often. They had an app you could download and have some Daily info on it - but the last thing I want to do on vacation is carry my phone around and check schedules. Overall it was a nice vacation. Not sure we would go back, not because we didn't have a good time but next time the kids will probably want more activities to do like some water slides or something.

Great resort - with a few issues as others have mentioned

I found many of the things others have said in previous reviews to be spot on about this resort. This is a great resort with a few issues. But the issues we knew about before and expected and they did not cause us to not have a good time. We had a great vacation. We were here as part of a wedding, and have to say first of all the wedding team at this resort went above and beyond. I think her name was Zoe and she was awesome. We were photographing the wedding and the resort was incredible to work with. The bride also upgraded for the meal and bar on the beach and a dance floor right on the beach. It was spectacular. I know she paid a pretty penny for everything, but the wedding was incredible and the service spectacular. As for the front desk - the several dealing I had with them were great - no issues what so-ever. We arrived later so did not have to deal with the VIP sales pitch and timeshares so that was nice. They upgraded us to the 7th floor which was awesome. The preferred club was nice (we did not pay for the upgrade - they provided it free of charge to us without asking) We enjoyed the sparkling wine and the private breakfast. But I would not have felt it was worth the price if we had paid to upgrade. As for the negatives. I will agree with others the food is fair to poor at this resort. I had 2 good meals the entire week. Mahi Mahi at Oceana and Salmon at Portafino. The rest of the meals were OK or bad. Food at the buffet was cold most of the time as mentioned in other reviews. That said we knew this going in and we always found something to eat and didn't let it ruin our trip. The service staff goes above and beyond, and we found them all spectacular. One thing I will say I appreciated, is that they enjoyed getting tips, but you never felt it was expected or needed to get good service. Some days I tipped, and others I forgot to. My service did not change. I even noticed at the bars people would come up and make it clear they had money in their hands and wanted better service. The bartenders just continued to serve the people in the order they arrived. I was impressed by this. All in all I had a great time, and the natural pool area was our favorite spot. This is a family resort with not a lot of night life, but we appreciated that. If you are looking for a party atmosphere, you may want to look elsewhere.Would we go back - we would not avoid this resort for the right price, but we would probably try to find one with better food for next time.

This Dream is overrated !!!

We just returned from a family vacation, 13 in our group, at Dreams Puerto Aventuras. In our week stay, we found many positives about this stay, but unfortunately in our opinion, they were overshadowed by the negatives. That said, let me start with the good. Puerto Aventuras is a fun, upscale, gated community. One of the major highlights for both adults and younger adults (46 -13) was the dolphin swim in Puerto Aventuras. Not only did they swim with dolphins, but also with manatees and sea lions, followed by a catamaran trip to a snorkeling area, and a buffet lunch on board. Our daughter found Groupons for this venture that made it the best money spent on our trip. The adventure lasted about 4+ hours. Another of our highlights has to be our beach server, Marilu Mesera. She always made sure our glasses were full; she was a constant stream of food and drinks. We looked forward to her friendliness and smiles each day, and we chose her to receive our traditional Nebraska shirt award. We found much of the staff to be helpful and friendly as well. Unfortunately, we also found many downsides of the resort. We had six rooms; our son upgraded to the Preferred Partner room on the 7th floor. Although he had a spectacular view and many added amenities, the room itself was base level compared to the other 11 resorts we have experienced. Another son and his wife upgraded to a honeymoon suite. With the exception of the larger balcony and outside hot tub, the room was basic and without a nice view. We also found mold in 3 of the 6 rooms. Bath towels in the room were very worn and had a musty odor. Every day, the beach towel containers were empty & we had to request beach towels. The beach was rocky & littered. Travel between floors was a problem because 2 of the 3 elevators were not working. Staff suggested we use the stairwells for quicker travel between floors. We found many places to eat, but the food was average at best. Even though there were many drawbacks, our family did have a very good time, but going home we all agreed Dreams will not be our first pick for next year's family vacation. I am not sure why this resort is rated 4 stars; we found it to be average, 2-1/2 to 3 stars at best. I am sure it's possible that our expectations were just too high, and like wine, everybody has their own likes and dislikes.
