Our Opinion

Dreams Puerto Aventuras is a smaller resort, but keeps up with excellent service and amenities that one would expect from a Dreams Resort. This resort is popular with families and couples alike, however singles might prefer a larger hotel with wider range of guests. Definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a quality resort. If you're into swimming with Dolphins, there is a dolphin encounter on site as well as the nearby Dolphin Discovery located in Puerto Aventuras.

Dreams Nightmare & Never Again Apple Vacations

A “Dreams Nightmare” & Never Again Apple Vacations Wonderful Employee’s Before I start on the review, the workers at this resort were phenomenal! Most of them were hard working, and tried to make everyone’s vacation as pleasure as possible. The following employee’s were extra special: Daniel and Julio the Porters were always willing to help. Special thanks to Victor (Manager at Oceanic) and Wilbert for making our evening special. Salvador and Lenin at the Barracuda Bar, Paschal at the Portofino bar who was very attentive. Francisco the waiter at breakfast was very kind and always smiling, along with Julian and Mario. Miriam (Coffee Shop). Nelson at the outdoor pizza wood grill always happy, smiling and works very hard. Not sure of his name, but the Manager at the front desk (Eduardo???) short fellow – was very kind and courteous.NegativesWe have traveled to many different resorts, and not one time did we ever write a negative review. This is the first. We have been to Barcelo’s, Grand Palladium’s, Riu Resorts, H10 etc... This Dreams Puerto Adventuras is terrible in comparison to any resort we have ever been too. Apple Vacations advertises it as 6 Yellow Apple, and we believe it is no more than a 4 Red Apple. You need to research this resort very carefully, and observe the pictures very closely. If you research the reviews thoroughly, you will find other people have stated the same. There may be some people who rate this resort very high, but we believe they have nothing to compare it with.If you like the following…..150’ - 200’ Super Small Non-Walkable Beach, Lobby as big as a Master Bedroom,Twin Beds in many rooms,Pool Chaise lounges (inches apart) etc…….then this is the place just for you! This resort was a major disappointment! Pool and BeachBe prepared to be at the pool by 6:00 A.M to get a lounge chair, and by 6:30 to get a beach lounge. The lounge chairs at the pool are inches apart. The beach is so small, you need to use the pool (if you can get a lounge chair) because the beach is beyond terrible. It is impossible to walk the beach, and not a swimmers beach! Some (not all) of the bar tenders would not take the time to crush the limes for your drink. They would throw them in the drink – unless you asked them otherwise. No food in the sports bar other than nuts, and rarely any bacon for breakfast. Apple Vacations Never AgainWe will never book with Apple Vacations again! Isn’t this misleading and not very truthful to rate this a 6 Yellow Apple – just to fill a resort? There were people who purchased Apple Vacations Mystery Deal, and they ended up at this resort - to fill the resort? Many people who gave their review of this resort, admitted this was not a 6 Yellow. This is a very small resort and you need to thoroughly research other reviews. Do your research and read the reviews!Other Vacation Agencies do not rate this resort this high.Older Resort & Outdated RoomsThese are older buildings, and they need more than a facelift. The resort has too many rooms in comparison to available services and SPACE! For the price you pay for a “Dreams Nightmare”, you could do much better, and with peace of mind. There are many better resorts that offer so much more for less. On two different occasions, our room was not cleaned until after 4:00 p.m. The bathtub leaked, and you can see mold around the tub (see picture). Pros Some nice features at the resort included a huge whiskey keg on the beach, filled with domestic beer, water and pop. Overall the food was decent, except the breakfast buffet was the worse we ever encountered. A free 20 minute Hobie Ride - be sure to tip the operators. Coffee shop with pastries. Zip lines. The Tenor Entertainment at the Oceana was fabulous, and even gave the guests an opportunity to dance. The drummers on the beach at the fire show were utterly amazing, and did a superb job!Bottom-line – no more “Dreams Nightmares”, and “Never Again Apple Vacations”!Do your research!

Came here for our wedding and were very disappointed.

I wrote this review and sent to the resort. i wanted to give them the chance to respond before I left a review on here. They have no responded so I am posting: We decided to book our stay for our wedding and honey at Dreams Puerto Adventuras located in Riviera Maya Mexico several reasons. As excited as we were to plan our wedding and ultimately our honeymoon, our visit to your resort was less than ideal. We were there May 10th thru May 19th 2017, our wedding was May 13th 2017.We choose the highest/ most expensive package we could. We were advised that there was no honeymoon sweet available, so we ended up in a Deluxe room with Ocean View on the 7th floor. I was very disappointed in the room when we arrived. The room was at most, basic. For this being our wedding and honey we were willing to spend the money and have the best room available. I was VERY disappointed at how small and plain the room was. Guests staying in cheaper rooms basically had the same room! We upgraded to the 7th floor which had some perks such as Top shelf alcohol; however, you can have the top shelf alcohol if you are on the 7th floor which wasn’t helpful at all being around the resort in the other restaurants or bars. VERY inconvenient. The only real perk of being on the 7th floor and paying all that extra money was our concierge Gabby. She helped us with so much and we loved her. That woman deserves a huge raise, keep her working there as long as you can. She was simply lovely. The beach was terrible. It was incredibly small, there was a TON of seaweed that you would have to wade through every single day despite the amazing efforts of the workers trying to rake it in. It appears that other resorts nearby had something in the water to prevent this from happening. The plus on the water however is that there are tons of fish. it was nice to snorkel and see them. There is a lagoon next to the hotel, not owned by you but open to anyone. That was our favorite place to go. good snorkeling. So my now husband is a huge eater, buffets are his favorite. Once we got to the resort, we find out that buffet was closed. We were kind of disappointed. The wait at the restaurants and wait time on service was ridiculously long. Minimum wait we had to be seated was 40 mins. Most of the time it was at least an hour or more. For a resort who promotes that they do weddings, you are not equipped to handle larger parties. We had 10 people total that came to attend our wedding. We were only able to have 1 meal seated together, and that was ONLY because I was required to buy a bottle of wine to reserve a table. We had a very terrible experience at your Mexican restaurant. It was the night before my wedding and we were told we would need 2 separate tables. Apparently, there was a miscommunication between the hostess and my family as 6 people sat at one table and 4 others sat at another. The hostess became irate stating that the 4-top table wasn’t ready and they should have asked before sitting down. My family apologized but your hostess WOULD NOT let this issue go. I walked up to her and asked what the problem was. She then repeated what she had said before “they needed to ask me first to sit down”. She was so incredibly rude!!! I asked her what she wanted us to do, does she want them to get up and leave? She responded with No, and they should have asked. At this point, its utterly ridiculous and I was so upset! I told her that there was clearly a miscommunication and she needed to let it go. She continued to repeat herself. I told her I was getting married the next day and that this was ridiculous behavior on her part. This completely inappropriate issue made me so upset to the point I went to the bathroom and cried from being stressed out and upset. I got myself together and went back to my table. I can see AND hear this hostess continue to complain to her coworker about the issue. I am appalled that one of your employees would act like that and treat guests that way!!!Regarding my wedding: The wedding organizing was sloppy. I meet with the planner and then I had to go to several other places to book/schedule things that are included in our wedding package. i think it would have been more professional for if the wedding planner would take care of this or you would be able to schedule directly through them.During our wedding reception outside, it began to lightly drizzle. without a word to anyone, they cut the music off and started packing up. We were confused and no one really offered any direction. We hadn’t even had tome to cut our cake yet! Since no one was offering any direction of what to do, as we still had an hour and half left of our reception, I asked if we could move the party in the hotel to the sports bar, as i know they have a dj booth. They said, sure that’s fine. We had to rush to cut our cake and the staff said they would bring it inside. Once we are in the sports bar, we ask about the music. They state, “sorry no music in here until 11Pm”. I was so confused. We had to pay extra to even have a DJ. I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay $800 for a DJ and be out an hour and a half. I told them that they would need to refund me a portion or they need to figure this out. I was told that weather is out of their control. This was an unacceptable response. I was more than willing to move the party inside, whatever they wanted to do, but no one was helping or suggesting anything. At this point, I am VERY upset and embarrassed that this is happening during my reception. We paid over $5000 to have our wedding at your resort, not to mention having guest come and stay at your resort. The wedding experience was sub-par at best. The woman who conducted the ceremony was wonderful, as was the Mexican trio at the cocktail hour. The wedding reception food was good also. This is pretty much where it stops as far as things we enjoyed for the wedding.Your spa staff/area needs some major customer service attention. I went there to get my hair and makeup done for my wedding. I had 2 people in there with me, you staff members were talking to each other in Spanish so loudly! I could barely hold a conversation with my mother. I would expect coming in there for a wedding would warrant special attention; however, there was none. So, woman came in and was waiting to get her hair washed and styled and the spa attendants ran over and offered her water or mimosas. This certainly wasn’t offer to myself or my family. We had booked an outside couples spa massage on the beach for 9:30am. It was recommended to do so before It got too hot outside. We promptly waited outside for the spa attendants to show up. At 10:00 when no one showed up, my husband we to the spa and inquired. They didn’t even have us on their calendar for that day or time. They told us to give us half an hour and they would come. The massage, once we got it, was so great that we decided to book another, same location and with the same spa attendants for 2 days later. 2 days later we, again, go to the massage area at the beach at 9:30, and we wait and no one comes. At 10:00 the 2 spa attendants come and scold us for not being in the spa. This was incredibly unprofessional as we had scheduled it to be exactly like the one we just had. I’m sorry that your spa desk staff can’t adequately schedule services, but that is not our fault and I certainly don’t appreciate being scolded like a child for it.We booked your resort to hold our wedding and then to stay for our honeymoon, 10 days total. We spent over $4000 for our vacation and another $5000 for our wedding, not to mention that we had 10 additional people stay at your resort. I am VERY disappointed in our stay and with our wedding. I can’t say that I would EVER recommend this resort to anyone to stay at. I think the resort has enormous potential, but as things are currently, its lacking VERY much. I wanted to reach out with this email before I decide to leave my reviews on trip advisor and other review sites. Clearly, I can’t go back and choose another resort for my wedding and honeymoon, but I’m hoping that you can try to make my terrible experience right.

Fun resort.

Room was just ok and had a nice view of the ocean. Furniture had seen better days, but was functional. The pool areas were again, just ok, nothing great, but not awful. The little bay was nice and the palm trees made a nice area to hang out in near the ocean. The resort has lots of food options that keep you from going hungry. Room service had a few late night options and there was a coffee shop that had some buffet style food near the lobby. There was a cool little bar that had swings near the ocean but it seemed to close early every night. The sushi restaurant was pretty good and we ate our fill and then some! The physical aspects of the resort is largely just ok, but what makes it great is the friendly staff and the activities that they offer. There is always something going on! One day there was a great lunch buffet on the beach! One day a dance party at the beach and even a crossfit challenge. There was live music in the lobby on some nights and the dance club was fun, too. The building and grounds are not quite luxurious or well kept and sometimes not quite clean, but, you go here for the fun atmosphere and resort activities. There is a put put course, a giant chess board, ping pong and im sure other things that im forgetting. Everything is also very close, you dont spend your time walking all over the resort, they have made excellent use of their space. A trip to the room doesn't take forever. Also, the food is mostly good, and sometimes its even great and same goes for the drinks.

Went with a group doing fitcation. Had a absolutely wonderful time. Plenty to eat drink and do. The staff here was amazing shout out to Carlos for hosting our group and going over and beyond for us. Giovanni with the entertainment staff remembers your name after hearing once and greets you with a smile and a dance. The kids all love Bernice as did I her smile and energy makes you love her. The whole entertainment team was entertaining for sure. We liked Francisco and Auturo as our waiters. Bar staff was great. Carlos set us up with a cooking class that was truly memorable thought it was going to be something small but it wasn't we made a meal ty for that chef. I saw bad reviews not sure why as we were treated kind and like family thank you to everyone that helped make our stay one of my favorite weeks I have ever spent.

Nice Place for Kids!

We booked the Cheapcaribbean.com Deal of Fortune to get a great deal and about a week before departure we were given the resort we would stay at - Dreams Puerto Aventuras Resort. We were pleased with the resort, but would've liked something closer to Cancun. The ride from the airport took almost an hour, but not too bad. Our room was nice and the A/C worked like a gem. They were updated and nice. Upon check in I asked for 2 queen beds because we had our 5 year old son with us. They said they were out and we would have to take a king. I realize we arrived around 11pm so the pickings would be slim. I asked if there was a sofa, etc in the room and the front desk agent wouldn't respond. I got a little annoyed with him and in the process of speaking with him he walked to the other side of the front desk and started talking with my husband who was dealing with the bellman. I was like "what?" I'm not really sure what that was about, but hoped it wasn't because I was a woman??? Anyways, our room was nice and did in fact have a sofa that changed to a small bed - perfect for my son. I just wish the front desk agent would have told me that? It would've avoided an issue. I know that 2 queen beds isn't a guarantee, but should be considered the day of check in for reservations with more that 2 people. The resort was nice. Definitely not a 4.5 star as we were promised when booking with Cheapcaribbean.com. It was more along the lines of a 3.5 star resort. There were quite a bit of restaurants - they were pretty average, nothing specatular. The best food in my opinion was the little pizza/hot dog spot by the pool. The kids club was nice - we put our son in there a bit while we stayed for the week. We absolutely loved the snorkeling right off the beach - even saw an eel which my son thought was the coolest thing ever. Lots of fish right off the beach. They had a wonderful blow up obstacle course out in the water, but there was a terrible storm while we were there and they whole thing got caught up in a water spout and busted. Unbelievable to watch and the storm passed quickly. We celebrated our 9 year wedding anniversary there and had a dinner on the beach sans our son which was very nice. Extra fee and I had lobster and steak. Very good and the staff was great. Staff at the beachside cafe were great too. Good food and good service, always very attentive and fun to talk to. Our room was the last room by the dolphin adventure so we saw the dolphins a lot as we walked around the resort. My husband is a fish biologist and we just weren't thrilled with the enclosure and lack of stimulation for these beautiful dolphins. After hours they just kind of swam around and seemed enthralled with trucks/cars going over the bridge making loud banging sounds. Not a great set up for these wonderful animals - kind of sad to watch, but in Mexico things are very different - we had to remind ourselves of this. As far as the pool - it was small and extremely crowded. We really avoided it and just spent our time lounging on the beach and swimming in the ocean. All in all, it was a good resort. I don't think we will be back and I'm not sure I would recommend it. The beach was great - that was our favorite part of this resort. We're heading back to Riviera Maya in a few weeks for our 10 year anniversary and chose the Valentin Imperial Adults Only All Inclusive (no kids this time) and hope to have a better experience. We shelled out the extra money for this one.
