Our Opinion

Dreams Puerto Aventuras is a smaller resort, but keeps up with excellent service and amenities that one would expect from a Dreams Resort. This resort is popular with families and couples alike, however singles might prefer a larger hotel with wider range of guests. Definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a quality resort. If you're into swimming with Dolphins, there is a dolphin encounter on site as well as the nearby Dolphin Discovery located in Puerto Aventuras.

Happy couple!

My girlfriend and I recently stayed at Dreams PA as a couple. Our overall impression was that this was a great resort. While we didn't have rose petals thrown at our feet constantly, as some seem to expect, and there were some definite places for improvement, the staff was overall excellent, and the room was wonderful. I would classify this as a very family-friendly resort. While we came as a couple, there were a ton of activities for kids of all ages. Most of the families seemed to stay around the main pool, but it never felt over-run or over-crowded to this couple on a romantic getaway. If kids being kids isn't your thing, then do your research and stay at an adults only! Staff - As with most all-inclusives, the first thing I need to mention is the staff. Jessica, our beach waitress, was just wonderful. My girlfriend cried when it came time to say goodbye. Marco at the swim-up bar was fun and friendly. Francisco at the breakfast buffet was smooth and helpful. We were generally greeted with smiles and greetings everywhere we went. With one exception (the morning coffee bar, of all places), where the barista could probably have used a little more training on how Americans order their coffee and on customer service.Room - Our room was wonderful. We had a fifth-floor ocean view room and could not have been happier. The bed was amazing, the shower was great. My girlfriend loved the vanity and make up mirror (now I'm going to have to find something similar at home!). Food - As many reviewers have stated, the food was marginal. The breakfast buffet was typical of any resort or cruise I have been on, with the main attraction being a fresh omelette station (and a corresponding line). The Italian restaurant was bad, the grill was 50/50 (her fish was "good", my pork was "pretty good"). We ate at El Patio, the Mexican restaurant, twice and it was excellent both times. Beach - While the beach area is small, we were never crowded in the little secluded bay. Yes, the towel game was in full effect with people claiming there places then going off to eat their breakfast, etc. But we were always able to find a couple loungers and drag them to our favorite spot on the beach. Minor irritations at worst.Snorkeling from shore - As an avid snorkeler, I would highly recommend the resort. The little bay is small, but there is plenty of life amongst the rocky areas along the sides and near the buoys. In my week there, I saw barracuda, a good sized file fish, a porcupine fish, needlefish, angels, parrotfish, and I was even lucky enough to spot a good sized moray eel. At the farthest point from shore, there are some nice sized rocks and coral - when the conditions are right, spend your time out there. Even on red-flag days, there was plenty to see. Also, there is a lion fish that hangs out in the little snorkeling pool, along with a really big shrimp - look in the little crevices on the outside of the pool. I also booked a snorkeling excursion through the onsite PADI team. Totally worth it. We swam with rays, turtles, morays, and a good assortment of fish.Activities - the nighttime stuff was hit and miss. If there's one night that's worth it, it's the fire show. Otherwise, whatever. The activities team is great. They tried to recruit people without being obnoxious. Pools - We stopped briefly at the adult pool, but it was incredibly boring. Besides, we came to Mexico for the beach, so most of our on-resort time was spent there. The family pool was always busy with kids, but we never felt over-run or over-crowded. It's a family resort. Get over it.Bars - I've read many reviews about the watered down or bottom-shelf drinks. While I suppose the pina coladas and daquiris could have been stronger, or mixed with patron, we found them delicious and plentiful. The Barracuda bar features a better selection of alcohol than the main swim-up bar, but we had no problem maintaining a wonderful beach buzz all week! This is a "something for everybody" resort. If you are looking for "the best beach", or "culinary experience", or "Vegas-style entertainment nightly!", do your homework and find the resort that works best for you. If you want friendly staff, time in the sun, a clean room with a really comfy bed, and plenty of options for things to do (including nothing at all), for a very reasonable price, then I highly recommend Dreams PA!

Perfect place for the kids

We booked through bookit.com and then upgraded our room for an extra $80/night when we arrived. The rooms are fine, but you really spend all your time outside anyway. The resort has a nice little beach that the kids love to play on, and good swimming pools. The food is nothing special but it's good and they serve hamburgers on the beach for the kids. The resort is small and easy to navigate. Overall we had a great week, and I'd say that Dreams is a very good place for families. If you're looking for fine cuisine or a lot of nightlife, there are other resorts that might work better.

Terrible choice!

I have been to Mexico many times over 20 years, and have done everything from backpacking across the country to high-end all inclusives. My mother booked us in here for a family get together in March. I don't normally go out of my way to write negative things but...I have to say it was the worst food I have ever eaten in Mexico - the meals we ate in the local village for $3 per person are far tastier, cleaner, and more interesting. The staff seemed nice enough but overwhelmed with work. The place was crowded, and the beach is small and terrible for swimming. In short, avoid Dreams Puerto Aventuras like the plague.

Pretty Decent

I just got back from this resort today. Overall, it is a nice place. There are two pools: one on the side of the ocean, which is for kids and adults; the other is for adults only which is located on the other side of the building. I personally stayed at the adults only side to get away from kids running around and all the screaming they do. One little thing I want to point out is that the water in this pool isn't as clean as I expected it to be. Not very dirty, just a bit. I'm not sure about the other pool. However, one major issue with this resort is that they do not have enough chairs. I had to ask the staff every single day to bring me a chair because all were taken.Part of the issue is guests. They come early in the morning, leave a towel on the chair and then don't show up for hours. A pretty nice perk on the adult only side is that they have a cooler filled with beer and water so you do not have to ask a waiter and wait for them to bring you a cold one. Restaurants were quite a disappointment, but to be honest I only went to 4 of them. What they all share in common is that they do not have enough menu items to select from. Gohan (the sushi restaurant) would have to be the best out of them all. However, one night they were booked so I had to be put on a waitlist. Seaside is OK. If you want to do lunch there, their fish tacos are amazing. For dinner, their fish was good. However, their rib eye steak was awful. I didn't even eat it because it was all just chunks of fat pieces. Oceana is only open for dinner service, but the wait time from the time the waiter took my order was ridiculous. My beef steak wasn't cooked properly and the overall portion was very small. World Cafe serves decent lunch, but I never went there for dinner. This is the only restaurant that serves breakfast on the resort. During lunch, some items weren't that great and some were OK. They have cooks who can cook some items for you on the grill (like seafood or fajitas). Their service is not that great either. I had to go get drinks myself. Not a single waiter/waitress came by to ask if I needed a refill. They do have a dress code policy (no sleeveless shirts allowed for men). I did not try the Italian restaurant (Portofino), but they also have a dress code. They require that men wear long pants. The room view was pretty nice, I was in room 234. I barely spent any time in it since the weather was fantastic the entire time I stayed. During the evening, the entertainment staff does shows, but I don't really care for them. They also have small bands play in the lobby after the shows sometimes. The Desires is the nightclub/sports bar. They do have a DJ and a pool table if you want to shoot some pool. One major thing is that this is a nonsmoking resort. However, they do have designated spaces for people who smoke, so be sure to familiarize yourself with the resort quickly. Another issue is that their elevator seems to be working in an odd way which I cannot explain. For people who previously visited this resort will understand. With all that was said, I'm not sure if I would repeat going there. If they improve their restaurant qualities, then that would improve the chances of me going back there by a lot.

PERFECT FAMILY VACATION!

Our family just returned from a fabulous week at Dreams Puerto Aventuras. The hotel was the perfect size, wasn't overly large which was great for young families. Our daughters (6&9) were able to get around and always in our view, unlike other resorts we've stayed at in the past. We had a ground level family suite, which was amazing. We were able to walk in and out all day long, and great for us when kids were in room resting after a long day in the sun. We had great food and went to all of the a la carte restaurants. It was extremely nice not having to make reservations. We never had to wait and were always taken care of. The barefoot grille made the most amazing wood fire pizzas. To die for! There was a lotof options and never repeat meals.Lots of varieties and plenty of food! Dulce, at the main pool, always made sure we had something cold to drink and was a sweetie. The Kids Club was fantastic and always had activities for the kids. Our girls participated in crafts and bungee trampoline. It was nice that my husband and I felt safe to leave the girls for activities. The entertainment team was fantastic. They truly keep that resort happening. Giovanni, Bernice, Jorge... Loved the water aerobics, Zumba, foam party in pool, zip lining across Beach, sandcastle competition...all an amazing experience that was a wonderful experience for our family. The nightly shows were good, Magic shows, fire show. We participated in the Dolphin Discovery on site as well. However, I booked directly on the website 2 weeks before we arrived. I was able to get a deal (50%) off entire booking, where it was extremely pricey to book at actual location . The town of Puerto Aventuras also has Dolphin Discovery programs too, where you can swim with Dolphins, Manatees and Sea Lions. Puerto Aventuras was a lovely experience. Our daughters had their hair braided, bought souvenirs and ate amazing gelato ice cream! We were able to see the marina and the fish that were caught during day. We were very impressed with the friendliness, the smiles that everyone gave and it truly was an amazing experience. We would recommended this resort for sure!
