A Great Family-oriented Resort

I stayed at the Dreams Riviera Cancun over a long weekend in mid-February 2017, with my wife and 14 year-old daughter. We’ve stayed at over 10 resorts during 14 visits to the Mayan Riviera, and we give Dreams high marks. I provide more details and insights below, but can confirm that Dreams provides a great family-oriented resort for those looking to spend a long weekend or extended vacation in Mexico. As many have noted, the resort property is beautiful and in excellent condition. The beach (one of my most important criterion) is comprised of deep, soft, white sand with good water areas. Service staff was friendly, engaging and helpful at every level. Most spoke good English, but appreciated that we spoke some Spanish. Food (the other important aspect) is, overall, very good—certainly better than most, particularly for a large, all-inclusive property. My teen daughter considered it the best of the area resorts, given the variety of decent pizza, burgers, tacos, etc. Rooms are well appointed with comfortable beds. The excellent housekeeping service is done twice per day, with an evening turn-down service. This was great given the high demands on showers/towels. Here are our thoughts and observations for making your trip to Dreams a success:Preferred Club: Some rooms, for an additional charge, are part of the “Preferred Club.” If you haven’t experienced such arrangements in the past, these are available to anyone, provided that you pay the higher price for the associated room. In the case of Dreams, this means that there are certain special benefits, including: late check-out, a designated beach/palapa area on the beach for Premium Club, and entry to the Premium Club itself. At this Club, guests get personal, expedited check-in and check-out. It is also a bar with nice snacks, and a business center. After being a Preferred Club guest, I’m not sure whether it was worth the additional cost. However, it was very nice to be able to skip lines, have reserved palapa area and be able to hang out at the Club while waiting for our late afternoon pickEat Early: Except for one restaurant (Asian), none of the restaurants took reservations for dinner. We had three people in our party. If we ate dinner before 6:30, there was often no wait to be seated. However, when we tried to eat at 7:30, the waiting time exceeded an hour at every restaurant (except the buffet). I imagine that this was worse for large parties, and we felt bad for the parties with young and hungry children.Room Arrangement: Be advised that some of the rooms can create some odd privacy situations. Based on the website and graphics, the resort appears to be a romantic destination. The rooms are arranged with the beds proximate to the window and balcony. Behind the headboard is a half wall that separates the sleeping area from the bathroom area. It is one large room, as opposed to rooms with separate bathrooms with doors. To be sure, the toilet area and the shower are located behind separate frosted glass doors. However, it is an intimate situation no matter how you consider it. While we’re no prudes, for our teenage daughter this was too awkward for her. We had to be creative in when and how we showered/changed during the day. Vouchers: Our hotel package included vouchers for hotel services and purchases. In fact, it sounded pretty good to have $400 in vouchers. However, that deal is not as good in reality. They effectively are coupons. You might get a $10 voucher for a bottle of wine, but the bottle must exceed $40 in price. Similarly, spa vouchers are for a fraction of the overall cost. In the end, we used one voucher in three days.Night Activities: This resort had some of the best evening music and nighttime entertainment that I’ve ever experienced at a resort. It was family friendly too. One evening included an impressive magic show. There was a bar in the room, with service to the seats! They even serve popcorn. Loved it!Towel Game: Like many other resorts, guests jockey for prime pool and beach chairs by placing their towels out in the morning. We never found this to be necessary, and usually found comfortable places in both areas. However, I can imagine that some parents found preferred areas near the children’s pool area, and see how this would be necessary.I would definitely stay at Dreams again, primarily for the high-quality food, drink, beach and service. This is one of the premier family-friendly resorts in the Riviera Maya, in my opinion.

Wonderful 25th Anniversary!

From beginning to end, our stay at Dreams was enjoyable. The property is beautiful. The rooms are as represented online and are well thought out and nicely appointed. The service was some of the best we have experienced. There are wonderful dining options and the food is very good. Drinks flow freely, are served quickly and are of good quality. Entertainment is good. Pools are great and while busy (resort was full) never seem crowded. Beach is good, protected by the reef, with some seaweed but Dreams deals with it well (better than others on the beach). Check out was a breeze. Only cons for us-connecting rooms were requested a month prior to arrival but request was not accommodated, which was a disappointment in that we were celebrating our 25th anniversary while traveling with our minor children. Also there were several evenings the outdoor events ran late and made sleep difficult.

Beautiful resort

Absolutely beautiful resort from front entrance to the beach. Excellent staff and service. I thought the food was very good, beverage service 2nd to none. I am not going to go into a dissertation here on the "teens from Texas" as I too, experienced what others have stated here. I believe the resort management who have advised me that they will never allow this to occur again - I hope so as I do plan to return to your beautiful resort for another great vacation. Our thanks again to Issac for his prompt and professional service.

Great Week at Dreams Riviera Cancun

We had a great time here and the weather was perfect. We thought the best specialty restaurant was the French restaurant, but others were fine. Breakfast at the Oceans restaurant was fun with Edher as our server doing magic tricks in addition to doing a great job. The design of the infinity pool is nice and gives a pretty much unbroken view of the beach and ocean. We took 2 excursions through the Amstar desk, sport fishing and a ½ day trip to Tulum. Both were fun and the Tulum trip was really worthwhile. The only “cons” to the trip were the attempts at check-in to get us to participate in the loyalty program which after a day of traveling wasn’t something we wanted to hear about and an issue with chairs around the pool. Like everyone else, we put towels out in the morning, but the official policy is that there are no chairs reserved. For most guests I’m guessing it’s not an issue but we ran into a diva (who appeared to have some association with the hotel) that sat down in the middle of our group while we were at lunch and wouldn’t move. Other than that we had a great time.
