Perfect Honeymoon in Paradise

We have just returned from EDM after arriving New Year's Day for our two week honeymoon. This was our first trip to Mexico and all we can say is wow, what a impression EDM made on us. From start to finish we couldn't have asked for more. We had an excellent honeymoon suite on the top floor with views of the pool and the beach. The room (541) was huge with a large balcony with day bed and chairs, lounge area, enormous bed which was extremely comfy and a amazing bathroom - his and hers sinks huge, jacuzzi tub, indoor and outdoor shower. The resort is beautiful with a fabulous beach and the gardeners, housekeeping, beach boys (they are always out there keeping the sand raked and fluffy and free of any bits of seaweed) and maintenance teams are constantly working to keep the grounds beautiful. The food and drinks here are amazing, we tried all the restaurants except Lima Limon, which is the only one that's just not us, however we heard excellent comments about the food here. Our favourites were the Caribbean Grill (best coconut shrimp and jerk chicken empanadas), Mio, Papitos (especially the prime rib day) and Kiyoko. All were amazing each and everytime we went. We also had the romantic beach dinner, which was so nice, and they had decorated our room with rose petals and towel swans when we returned. We even tried room service on our arrival night as it was late when we arrived after a long day of travel and this too was excellent. The menu for room service looked pretty good, but we only tried it this one night as all the other restaurants were too good to miss. The beach BBQ and Mexican Fiesta nights had fabulous food and entertainment. We also went to Joe's bar and Rick's bar some evenings and we particularly enjoyed the Il Divo tribute and the Beatles tribute acts. Whilst we were there we booked a few excursions through Lomas travel who are on site so it's really easy to book your trips when you are there - some went from Maroma Marina which is just a few minutes walk down the beach. We did a power boat speed trip from here, which was so much fun. We also did the excursion to Tulum. Unfortunately our snokelling trip from Puerto Morales was cancelled due to rough seas on the reef but there's always next time for this. There are endless excursions and we shall book some more when we return for our next trip. The resort itself offers non motorised water sports such as kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkelling as well as beach games. There's a kayak tour each morning for those who wish to go. I also tried out the spa for a deep tissue massage - they were using the palafitos that day for the outdoor massages instead of the sky villas on the beach but it was such an amazing massage with Maria (probably the best ever) and with a gorgeous view of the ocean too. We never got round to trying out more treatments or hydro therapy room but it all looked and sounded fantastic. We also enjoyed an evening at Cirque Du Soleil for their dinner show, which we booked before we left the UK. We came across this from a previous review of EDM and would highly recommend the show. We thoroughly enjoyed it. It only takes around 10 minutes from EDM in a taxi to get there. Now we come to the staff - they are the best staff we have ever encountered on our travels. They are so friendly, each and everyone of them - always happy to say hello and chat when they are serving or passing you to enquire about your trip and if there's anything you need and to provide recommendations - whether it be their favourite food in the restaurants, drinks to try or perhaps a trip etc. I know we don't have everyone's names who provided such excellent service, so we apologise to those that we are missing but we have a few standouts who we were in contact with everyday; - Our conceriege/butlers - Alex and Ele, thank you for booking all our reservations, taxis etc and checking on us to see if we needed anything during our stay. Thanks Alex for suggesting Exotic Travellers to us and arranging the tour with Ivan- Mio staff who served us breakfast and lunch the majority of our stay - Elmer, Alberto (he is an amzing waiter), Cabrera and Cinthya. We had fantastic waiters and hostesses at all the other restaurants and special event nights, unfortunately we don't know all of their names. We would also like to give a huge thank you to the head chef at Mio, he prepared some special steaks for us one night which were truly delicious. I think he was also head chef for the BBQ night which we atteneded and it was amazing. Mio are in the process of changing their menus so we have been fortunate to eat from the old and new menus -all are delicious. We have seen comments about portion sizes being on the small side, they are designed so that you can have 3,4, or 5 courses if you want. We generally had 2 or 3 courses at the restaurants, however if you want extra of something or to order an additional plate it's never a problem, my husband did this on our 2nd or 3rd reservations at Caribbean and Mio and we ordered an extra entree at Kiyoko one night - they also have amazing fried banana for dessert at Kiyoko. The apple pie at Caribbean and the Tiramisu at Mio also very good- Our housekeepers, Lorena and Leticia - thank you for keeping us tidy and clean all trip- We spent most of our days by the beach and early evenings at Bar 24 so we need to say a huge thank you to the Beach boys - Armando, Manuel and Eli for setting up our beach loungers each day and providing cold towels and ice lollies on the really hot days. Also a big thank you to the beach butlers who were always around keeping you refreshed - Karen, Pedro-Luis, Betsy (and a thank you for the night you were at Rick's bar providing me with those wonderful wedding cake martini's during the show plus all the sprite and oranges!!! - you got my husband the best ones out of everyone who learnt his favourite drink!!). The Bar 24 staff were great all day and into the evening so many thanks Carlos and Felipe - it was always a pleasure to come and see you at the swim up in the afternoons- Although we didn't partake in too many activities this time around Alex and the rest of the entertainment team were Excelente. I'm sure we will partake more on our next trip. It's nice to see things such as quizzes, cooking classes, spanish lessons and dance classes on the agenda as well as the usual activites. Although it's not our sport to participate in, it was good fun watching the beach volleyball each dayThank you to all at EDM for an unforgettable honeymoon. We loved it so much we have joined the Exotic Travellers, so will definitely be back sometime next year and I'm sure many years to come after that. You have truly spoilt us these last two weeks, we definitely did not want to leave yesterday and we can't wait to return. Thank you all again, The Taylor's (541)

Relaxing

We went for a quick getaway and had a good time. The food at the restaurants did not disappoint but the buffet for lunch and breakfast really did not impress me for a resort that claims to be a gourmet all inclusive. The buffet for lunch had paella that day and had very little to offer if that selection did not appeal to you. We preferred to eat at the other restaurant available for breakfast and lunch the quality of food was much better. As far as our room goes it was beautiful and spacious. The only thing that could have been better is if the mini bar would have been stocked. Two request later and our last night we finally had it stocked. Made us laugh because the amount of bottled water they gave us was to compensate for the lack of it the previous two nights. Definitely service recovery! We went to the spa and it is huge. The hydrotherapy pools you can use prior and the meditation room is very soothing. The locker rooms had everything you could need and were very clean. Just be prepared it is costly. All of the staff are very friendly and accommodating but the beach attendant that helped us every day was by far the person that went the extra mile. I definitely recommend this hotel if you want relaxation and good quality food. The problems we had with the hotel are minor and would not deter me from going back.

The Beach is ok, the food was great

My wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary here. We loved it! It’s been three months since we were there and she is still talking about sabores the restaurant. The food everywhere at el dorado maroma was amazing. The entrance to the hotel is so serene and peaceful. The smell of lavender and soft music was immediately calming. The beach was ok. Sand very soft but water in the lagoon was dark and full of seaweed. We new this going in and went more for the quiet, resort and award winning food. We were not disappointed.

resort of my dreams

We've been here for the past 5 days and it's our 6th time back. We cannot get enough of this place. The grounds are absolutely stunning and even though there could be a little updating or regular maintenance, they are continually doing just that. If something is in need of repair, you just have to let them know and they seem to be all over it. Great food as well for sure...love the new chef as we loved the previous one. Cannot say enough about the staff...what a great bunch of people, actually friends. Alex, Omar, DJ Chris, Mimi and Daniel take care of any activity that you'd like to do and then some...so fun. Our butlers, George and Victor, have taken care of every want that we could have. The wait staff, starting with our morning breakfast and mimosa with Ricardo, Diego (Mr. D), Rene, Pedro-Louis, Franklin, Dora, Albierto, and boss man George, Erik(from Caribbean rest), Andreas(Papitos), all of the beach butlers can't do enough for us either, Elier, Manuel, and Armando...great group and great people to be around for our vacay. My apologies for anyone I've forgotten. Can't wait for our next visit...loved it.

Exceeds expectation.

Slightly remote; a plus. One of the finest beaches in the Caribbean, though rather too popular with sand flies. Possibly the time of year, while the temperature was ideal.Excellent variety of restaurants/cuisine. Impossible to choose a favourite, used six of them twice each. All five star. The service was totally in keeping in every aspect from the room to the beach.
