Our Opinion

The El Dorado Resorts are an amazing group of resorts for those looking for a quiet and tranquil place to relax. The resort is surrounded with the beautiful landscape of Cancun and there are rooms that are fashioned with swim up suites. The resort boasts incredible service and polite staff. There are also plenty of a la carte restaurants that not only have a great selection in food, but service as well. A great option for couples wanting a quiet place to relax. A popular choice for weddings and honeymoons.

Great 30th Anniversary Location

I highly recommend the El Dorado Royale and Casitas if you are looking for a gourmet all inclusive resort. It offers a good mix between on-site amenities and off-site excursions. The site is expansive and safe with plenty of picturesque places to walk or star gaze. The resort was nearly full, but we never felt crowded and or had the need to wait for dinner or activity. The food was delicious, creative and varied. The staff was amazing. Kindness and attention to detail was evident in the groundskeepers, cleaning staff, waitstaff, personal concierge, etc.Barbara and Fernando were incredibly helpful as our personal concierges and helped us tirelessly. Special thanks to Hector, at the Sante Fe Grill, and Amado, at Rincon Mexicano who stood out to us in the sea of excellent service. Diego, thank you for all your enthusiasm on life, activities, and information.

Beautiful resort but disappointing beach

Beautiful resort. Grounds constantly maintained. Great pools. Food excellent. Service and staff the best. Lots of different areas to choose to relax during the day, either by the pools or beach. The beach was disappointing for me as they have created a breakwater out of huge big concrete barriers. Very unattractive. These create a calmer area for swimming but the water is only thigh high and fish get trapped in there and swim around your legs, and the fish attract birds. I find this a big negative for this resort but in saying this I would probably still go back. No late night entertainment or clubs or snack places so if you are looking to party probably not best place to pick. It was fine for us.

Amazing week....

We had a fabulous week at the El Dorado Royale. On the whole, the majority of staff were amazing and a particular mention for Gregorio Perez and Edoardo (who worked mainly in La Isla) who went out of their way to be lovely, helpful, smiley - was sad leaving them. Unfortunately we didn't have a week of great weather and the one downside to that was that the rooms were exceptionally cold and although I asked 3 or 4 times for our air conditioning to not be so cold they told me they couldn't change it or the system breaks - I found this disappointing and hard to believe they couldn't do anything. The only staff we found to be unhelpful all week was in the health bar - they would either ignore you if you were standing at the bar waiting to be served or if you wanted table service they weren't very friendly either. The a la carte restaurant choices were fabulous and the food was exceptional - so much choice. The only downside to the restaurants was the waiting time to get a booking if you went after 7pm at night - the majority of evenings we were told we would have to wait 1 - 1.5 hrs to get a table. Casitas guests were able to pre-book times but unfortunately Royale guests weren't hence causing such a waiting time. I would suggest therefore if you want to eat around 8pm go and put your name down at the restaurant of your choice by approx 7.15pm!This review makes it sound like it doesn't deserve the overall 5* we have given it but it truly was an amazing week - so relaxing - the food, ambience, staff were great and we would definitely return to this hotel again.

Good Stay

Overall good value for what it cost. Really had a great time. Glad we came.Pros- lovely grounds, open , lots of paved walking trails, no high rise- many  a la carte restaurants so you can eat at a different place every night.- rooms are clean - every room seems to have a tub- massage at the spa was very good and VERY expensive. You can get a cab ride and as good a massage in Playa Del Carmen for 1/3 the cost.- house wine is decent. Wine by the bottle is approximately 5 times CAD retail pricing.- plenty of bottled water available in the room daily.- love the golf cart transportation for when you get tired of walking- lots of gluten free options on all menus- food taste and quality is good. In general, it does not live up the billing of “Gourmet Dining”.  As a comparison the food at Excellence Riviera last year was much better. - all dining rooms are bright and expansive. Lots of room between tables. - most of the staff is friendly and helpful - comfortable bedCons- not really a beach that is swimable. - poor quality internet .. keeps on dropping and really is  sporadic and slow to reconnect.- very poor quality coffee. No decalf coffee available. Seems every machine that makes decalf, in every restaurant, is always broken. Starbucks is available till 4PM but after that no coffee worth drinking anywhere on the resort. Basic cup of coffee $5- room we had was clean... but dated. Poor level of interior light.- they use some awful tasting sugar in the mixed drink - stick with fruit juice  bar and have alcohol added at the bar- at the main beach bar the waiters are not friendly... perhaps over worked?- 200 USD  to reserve a pool side bed for the day...all other beds first towel in the morning gets it for the day. Get up early!- small number of pools and chairs for the number of rooms- at few times main course food arrived luke warm. - aquatic therapy pool in the Naay spa is showing its age. Switches to turn on features are worn out.- tried a Mexican beef tenderloin...tough!  Better use for it would be as a sole for your shoes. - no elevators anywhere on the propertyBest Dinner. ... Fantastic place, yet again.

This was our second visit in the last two years as a group of 4,two couples, and I still think it is one of the best hotels you can visit, food, drinks and staff are brilliant, special thanks to Peter who bent over backwards to look after us at breakfast and lunch, If I am going to pick fault and it is only small ones, I believe from our first visit standards had dropped slightly, first after sending e-mails from 10 months and up to 2 weeks before our arrival asking for 2 rooms together, we did not get them and hotel was not that busy, I had to go and ask for mini bar to be refilled as it had not been done for 3 days, cleaning of rooms was not as good, no hand towels left on one occasions and toiletries not stocked up daily. Now like I said these were only slight moans and if you have never been before you probably not even notice the difference, so yes I would recommend this hotel, would I return again, never say never, but keeping an open mind, it's a big world out there.
