Our Opinion

The El Dorado Resorts are an amazing group of resorts for those looking for a quiet and tranquil place to relax. The resort is surrounded with the beautiful landscape of Cancun and there are rooms that are fashioned with swim up suites. The resort boasts incredible service and polite staff. There are also plenty of a la carte restaurants that not only have a great selection in food, but service as well. A great option for couples wanting a quiet place to relax. A popular choice for weddings and honeymoons.

Very over rated for the money

I'll start by saying there were definitely some positives to the resort. The hotel is extremely gorgeous. The rooms were clean and the pools were great. The overall service between the front desk, room service, bar staff and grounds keepers was extremely great. Everyone was very helpful, friendly and overall in a great mood to be a great helpThe pool water polo and volleyball were a blast. The negativesThe food was a big one. The food was very poor quality, with bland flavor through (we tried almost every restaurant there). The best meal we had was the buffet breakfast in the morning which is self serve. Even the reservation required dinning was extremely bland. The steaks were as tough as a shoe and the seafood we ordered was burnt or raw. We ordered muscles and octopus and both were served almost raw and not exactly sushi grade quality to be served that way. I've been to several all inclusive including secrets up the street, and even though the others cost less the food was leagues above and beyond. Another big negative is they won't give you bottles of water anywhere but the room. Every where else is there large jug water, and since several of our party got sick I don't think it was distilled to standard( we were a wedding party of almost 70). This venue is portrayed as a wedding resort, with as we were told they can do more than 60 a month. The groomsman were given standard guest room to get ready, just a bed and a table with two chairs. The bridesmaids and bride had a suite in the spa, but believe it or not even though they were in there for over 5 hours no food is allowed in. Do they expect them to leave, walk to the buffet half dressed in a bridal gown and hit the pool side restaurant? And after pictures there was still an hour left to the wedding but they said the room was up so we waited in the spa lobby for a half hour with a party of 25 and then had to all move to the bride's room to wait for the ceremony. When it is 90 and humid that is a poor way to treat guests who pay large amounts of money for the venue. One of the male attendants continued to walk into the girls bridal room while they were changing, repeatedly coming in for no apparent reason continuing to make them feel uncomfortable. People continually walk in your private room (many stories from our group while enjoying their couple time) without knocking to turn down the rooms. While this is good service people would like a little personal time throughout the day and at least expect two knocks before walking in to a personal room. As we took our wedding pictures guests continually walked in front of the pictures interrupting on our pathway, including staff members on carts or landscapers with no marked boundaries or respectThe beach is pitiful as well. There is no beach to speak of to swim in with massive concrete barriers just thrown in the water, and yes I understand because of hurricanes but the photo shopped pictures act as if there is an amazing serene beach to hang out at. Overall I would not recommend this hotel for the price and the lack of quality while there. The amount of great locations pick somewhere else.

Relaxing getaway!

We went to El Dorado for friends' destination wedding and it was wonderful! It had it all: terrific weather, beautiful grounds, comfortable room and the staff was so friendly and accommodating. One of my favorites was morning yoga on the beach, just incredible!!! The instructor, Myuriel, was so kind to us beginners and made the class such a great start to the day, it was heavenly!!! We were so happy to join our friends for their special day there

Simply stunning but not without issues

We stayed at El Dorado Royale for 10 nights in early March. We originally booked a junior suite.Upon checking in we took the offer of an “upgrade” to Generations for 5 nights and then transfer back to the El Dorado Royal to a premium suite for 5 nights. What this would entail was not made fully clear at the time of check in. In addition we felt that the inference of being allocated an inferior room at EDR at this point was somewhat deceptive. Whilst the room at Generations was fantastic, this part of the resort is family friendly, 5 storey, and due to location lacks the atmosphere of the main part of El Dorado Royale. The bars and restaurants at Generations are very quiet. The reception is also some considerable distance from the hotel itself. Had to check in a second time and also when changing rooms it was a real hassle, check out of Generations at 12pm and then our room at EDR not available till 3pm. This process did take away from enjoying this day. The hotel will argue that guests sign a disclaimer however such a disclaimer is not binding. However, once we checked in at EDR this is where we feel our holiday began. The grounds are simply stunning and the ocean view premium suite was superb. However, the room was more dated than the room at Generations but still of a very good standard.Apart from trips we found the Fuentes pool to be place where we spent most days. The pool was quiet and the pool side service by Angela was first class. Most employees were very courteous and provided good service. We tipped when we felt we had good service at meal times and if we had a few drinks at the same bar. We had breakfast at Chef Market whilst in Generations and we thought the restaurants and food offering was very good. We preferred Cocotal in terms of breakfast offering when we moved rooms. Jo Jos also did breakfast but seemed to have a limited menu. For lunch we tried a few places but enjoyed either Jo Jos, for beachfront and lively feel or Spot, which was a buffet and quiet. With the exception of Fuentes, we tried most restaurants, show cooking is just not our thing. We found the best evening meals to be D’Italia Casitas and Sante Fe Grill. Both were truly restaurant quality and had a good atmosphere. The upselling in restaurants was no more than you get in any UK place. A polite no was all that was needed. We only went to one evening show and it was typical hotel entertainment. The entertainment team made a real effort but the outcome is just not our thing. We preferred the Gaviotas and the swing bar next to Jo Jo’s for a few drinks. The free evening courtesy bus to Playa Del Carmen was a good way to see Playa. There is also a courtesy bus to Cancun which runs through the day. We didn’t do many events in the hotel other than tequila tasting. We are not big fans of tequila but the sommelier was entertaining and informative. There were a few that we surprisingly enjoyed. We wish we had bought some of these ones now!EDR is a fantastic resort the only real downside for us was the misleading upgrade offer at check in.

The resort was fabulous, but quite large. We liked the golf cart service. The food was superb, no matter where we ate - including room service. We thought our room was nice until we toured some others! We will be upgrading on our next visit. Free activities and excursions should be advertised a little better. I was unaware of the free things we could have been doing without leaving the resort. The staff was so friendly. Everyone went out of their way to please us. Overall, a wonderful vacation. Already looking forward to our next visit.

Amazing resort, food and staff! Gluten Free Friendly.

We just completed a 5 day trip to the El Dorado Royale and stayed in the Casitas. Everything from the rooms to the food to the pools to the staff were top notch. I have a gluten allergy and the resort was extremely accommodating to any type of food allergy. All of their restaurants are al la carte (meaning no buffets!) and one of the first questions they ask when you sit down (or order room service) is if there are any food allergies. I was very appreciative of their knowledge and accommodation to this. The food was incredible! The staff were so friendly and helpful - we never felt like a bother to anyone. No matter where you were or what you needed, there was always someone happy to help. We have visited approximately 5 other all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and the staff at this resort was, by far, the friendliest staff we have encountered. The resort itself is lovely - so well manicured and taken care of. There are plenty of lounge chairs, cabanas and places to sit. You don't have to get up early to put your towels out to save chairs - there is plenty of room for everyone. The beach leaves a little to be desired (it's a bit rocky and muddy) but the resort, the pools, the staff and the accommodations certainly make up for it. We would go back in a heartbeat! We used Beach Bum Nikki at Beach Bum Vacation to book our trip and couldn't have been happier with the service. She took all the work and worry off our plate and we will definitely be using her and Beach Bum Vacation's services again.
