Our Opinion

The El Dorado Resorts are an amazing group of resorts for those looking for a quiet and tranquil place to relax. The resort is surrounded with the beautiful landscape of Cancun and there are rooms that are fashioned with swim up suites. The resort boasts incredible service and polite staff. There are also plenty of a la carte restaurants that not only have a great selection in food, but service as well. A great option for couples wanting a quiet place to relax. A popular choice for weddings and honeymoons.

Disappointing

I begin this with regret. This was our fifth and final stay at the Eldorado Royale. Feel free to read my 5-star review from April 10, 2014 to see what a huge difference 2 years has made. We knew things was ‘off’ from the start. There were immediate and long waits not only to be seated at restaurants, but to get your drink and food orders as well. In fact, most dining experiences were about one and a half to two-hour. As always, the staff works extremely hard they are just grossly understaffed. We realized early in our stay they are more concerned with you buying their version of time sharing rather than improving what they already have. The rooms and grounds are deteriorating badly. The food quality has dropped drastically, from over cooked inedible meats to French toast where you can still see the raw egg mix on top. Our candlelight dinner was a joke. They told us what our courses were but at least let us choose the entrée. We got mango salad which neither of us like, and lobster soup which neither of us are allowed to eat. By the time we got the main course we were already understandably disappointed. The Santa Fe grill was horrible. We had to sit through several courses we didn’t order or want to eat, and when we finally got our entrees they were extremely disappointing. All of the other restaurants weren't as good as our previous stays from the quality, the selection to how they were preparedToward the end I cut my foot on broken glass by the pool. I asked several times to have someone clean it up. When I saw medics I told them about my injury and without concern for my foot they said they’d have the glass cleaned up. This is not the 5 star resort I remember, and sadly they've lost us as customers.

No response

I will review my full stay which was fabulous at a later date, however this incidence has tarnished the whole experience. On our last day, the 1.12.16, my husband bought me a gorgeous ring from the jewellers in the reception area. We left to return to the uk later that day, by the time we landed one of the stones was missing. Despite numerous phone calls at great expense and being given invalid email addresses and then being promised that the manager will email me I have heard nothing nearly a week later. This is not the kind of service I would have expected, having had excellent service from all staff for the week we were there.

Great holiday, but it could have been even better

This was a fantastic place to take a week's break in the run up to Christmas though with a few tweaks it could have been even better. The staff were 100% friendly and smiling, everybody said Hola every time you met them and they seemed to be happy in their work which always helps you settle into an overseas resort venue. The flat gardens and grounds were very well thought out as were the many pools, small and large. All the resort including the beach areas was always kept clean and tidy and the resort felt secure and safe. There were a few three foot long lizards in residence, looking for the sunny spots in the daytime, but they were not a problem. And on our first floor level a racoon came up a tree to jump onto the communal passageway and eat all the sugar off a room service plate that the neighbours had left outside their door. He left the sweeteners though.Best to take a torch for the nighttime walk back from dinner if you are in one of the outer blocksThe food in all of the restaurants was of a very high standard, again with the staff trying their best at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Portions were not huge but that did not matter on a three meals all inclusive package, we still probably ate a bit too much over the week. The cuisines in the varied restaurants were interesting and always well presented and we had breakfast in four different places, lunch in two and dinner in five restaurants during our seven days there. And that leads to the only real complaint. We were given a leaflet on check in that gave the times and days of opening for the week that was ending the next day. But we never had any more information and hat led to us and dozens of other guests not realising there had been changes and that some places were closed at certain times. So our third night saw queues of people seeking a restaurant with spare tables and all that could have been avoided. It was the end of November and start of December but the problems could have been avoided with more clear information being out in the rooms. Closing some food outlets in a quieter part of the season is acceptable but only if you manage the flow of information and the expectancy of the guests. The best tip is to eat early in each meal period, or use the two restaurants that took bookings. Whenever we did that we had no issues getting a good table and prompt service. All round this is a very good option for an adults only, quality winter break and we would highly recommend it plus the trips to the historical sites such as Chichen-Itza, Valladolid and Tulum. Combined with the latter we also managed some snorkelling with sea turtles and rays which was truly a memorable experience. Don't be put off by the restaurant availability mentioned above, we would highly recommend the resort but suggest you eat an hour earlier than you might otherwise do.

Our Destination Wedding

My husband and I had our destination wedding with 80 guests at El Dorado. It was truly the most magical week. Every single employee we came in contact with would make sure to go out of their way to make our stay memorable. We were married on the pier and had our reception under the palapa of Tucanes. The entire event was flawless (except that it was extremely hot with 80 guests at Tucanes). The only downside was that we were told we could have large parties for dinner prior to our trip but were only allowed max of 8 people, which seemed like a big deal to every restaurant. The concierge was perfect for helping save time for reservations and making the little details so special. We stayed in the casita section and were so spoiled! We are returning for our anniversary next week and cannot wait! Definitely recommend this resort for a destination wedding, honeymoon and romantic getaway.

Two weeks all inclusive.

A lot of appearance but not substance. Very nice room with balcony and Jacuzzi. Good room service and cleaning. Dive centre in hotel has not a diver but only a seller for dive packages who don't know what you are talking about. The only restaurant that give you enough food is the mexican, all others are more on the little portions trying to imitate Italian or chinese cuisine. The K team people are doing their best with what they have: air guns without rear site o rusted and never clean the barrel. Sara, Joana and all team are anyway very good and friendly. The Scuba Maroma dive centre is very disorganized: they didn't ask for our qualifications before diving. I could continue with more but we think we'll no go back neither for half the price.
