Our Opinion

A very unique 5-star hotel. The Mayakoba steps away from the conventional resort setting, situating near the forest portion of the resort grounds, rather than the beach. While it does divert from the usual resort scenery, many applaud the beautiful grounds. The resort has excellent guest services and great food. This is the perfect destination for those who are looking for a unique getaway to the Riviera Maya.

Another Amazing Stay!

My husband and I took our fourth trip this winter to The Fairmont Mayakoba this past week. And, We will be back again soon!To anyone reading this, if you are wanting the perfection family vacation, Fairmont Mayakoba is it! Nowhere else is as warm, welcoming, accommodating, and well prepared for the task of creating the perfect, luxury family vacation experience. Between the beautiful beach, relaxing pools, terrific restaurants, exquisite El Cameleon golf, kids club activities, nature tours, boat tours, el pueblito and sensational staff, you cannot go wrong here!!!We had the pleasure of staying in one of the newly renovated Casitas. The new renovations are beautiful! The property, as always, is beautifully maintained, and is a perfect example of an exquisite use of land. This trip had a few new elements that we greatly enjoyed. 1) there were multiple outlets open for breakfast! Each had a unique flair and experience. Breakfast at Brisas was a real treat! 2) there were several dinner events that included live music. These were very enjoyable with great food and drink and entertainment! This property is full of unsung heroes who uphold service standards that should make Fairmont incredibly proud. To name a few... Jorge at the front desk who makes sure our stats are perfect from start to finish! Christina at the concierge desk who makes sure all of our special requests are handled beautifully! Irwin and Sharon at the Laguna pool who make sure that every afternoon is wonderfully relaxing! Gustavo at LaLaguna Restaurant who is one of the warmest and welcoming servers that a restaurant could possibly hope to hire! Noemi the hostess at Lalaguna! Housekeepers Mario and Noemi who keep our casita as a beautiful home! And Gerson, the bellman who, keeps my husband encouraged about his golf game, as well as arranges for transportation for our daily adventures!21 nights have been spent at the Fairmont Mayakoba to date in 2017, and we look forward to many more! Thank you, thank you to this amazing team for brightening our winter!

Above and beyond doesn't begin to explain this property...

I travel the world and stay in 5 star resorts about 20 days per month. I travel for business as well as personal trips with my wife and I've never experienced an all-around perfect resort for whatever you're looking for. This most recent trip in February marks the 5th time in the past 7 years I've stayed at the Fairmont. There are not many resorts that I can stay at with my wife on an anniversary trip, with others for a business trip, or with guys on a golf trip which is what I did last month. Not only are the grounds immaculate, the dining ambiance and quality of food is impeccable and the service is out of this world.Make sure to go for the appetite for luxury package if you want to relax and truly enjoy your stay there. Although I'm back in the States now, I will continue to daydream of the Mayakoba beach, golf, and warm pools at the Fairmont. When it's time to plan the best week of your life, look no further than the Fairmont Mayakoba.

Not what you might be expecting.

Firstly, we took the "All Inclusive" package. This property is not set up to be an all inclusive. There are numerous charges to you BEYOND the "all-inclusive" rate (food delivery to the quiet pool is charged, coffee in the morning at the coffee shop is charged, daily resort fee is charged, room service is charged, and you must pay to stock your mini-fridge with juice for the kids, milk, etc). This truly adds up QUICKLY. If you are accustomed to a true "all inclusive" experience in Mexico, this is not it.Secondly, there are only three restaurants for dinner (and no buffet offered except for breakfasts). This can get tedious if you are staying there for two weeks. The menus did not change at the three restaurants during our time there, so it gets VERY monotonous. Plus, a lunch an dinner buffet is great for kids...this is not offered at Fairmont Mayakoba. There was a one-mile walk to the beach each day (or you must wait for a gold cart). This resort is not designed for the faint of heart. The beach was completed clogged with seaweed. Despite constant and concerted efforts of staff to clear it, it made the beach less than desirable. The staff are terrific and the service is superb. The rooms are small (we had a signature casita) but nice. The beach casitas are also nice, but you will have the beach crowd one foot from your private pool an deck (not very private in fact). Glad we did not pay more for this option.

beautiful and tranquil grounds

The rooms were beautiful and spacious, and the grounds were spectacular. They designed the grounds in an eco-friendly way, which means that they kept the mangroves intact and most rooms and casitas are not by the ocean, but they have drivers ready to take you around the resort. The water and beach was much nicer than many of the resorts nearby.

Almost perfect...

This is a 5 star resort. That being said, there were some issues hence the 4 star review. (I make the comments below based on having been to at least 10 all inclusive, 5 star resorts in Mexico. In other words, I am pretty picky and have a lot to compare to.)Pros: Absolutely beautiful resort and the food was very good (one of the best I have been to). Less selection at the buffet but some very unique and delicious dinner choices. We loved the restaurant in the lobby - the cod and key lime pie were fantastic. Great wine selection. (We did do the all inclusive package. Food and drinks are quite expensive especially with the exchange rate). The boat tour was very relaxing and a great nature watch. Service was generally good (but in my opinion no better than any of the other 5 star resort).Main pool was heated and great for swimming. Plenty of towels. Pool service was good and it was nice to eat right at our loungers. No wrist bands.Has a different feel than the traditional all inclusive which was nice for a change.Cons: We upgraded to the Beach Casita. It was too windy to go to the beach so we were constantly traveling to the main pool (none of the others were heating and the water was quite cold). The room itself was no different than the basic room (we travelled with friends and compared). We did not have a plunge pool as expected. The butler was helpful but not worth the signifant cost difference. He made dinner reservations and booked the boat cruise. We made sure our room was decorated for my birthday. We didn't see him much and communicated via text. You do spend a lot of time waiting for the golf cart especially at night. The walk is too far from the beach to the main pool for kids. There are only 3 restaurants which are part of the all inclusive option. We had to eat one place 3 times. On one night the restaurant at the beach was closed for a special function further limiting our options. You sign a bill after every meal even if on the all inclusive plan. You don't know what you are signing. We got charged for drinking four BOTTLES of wine at the lobby bar midday which we did not have. It was a bad way to end the trip arguing about what we drank. We were not ultimately charged for the wine - thank goodness. This is a family resort. There are kids everywhere. I would not recommend for couples. There is a resort fee of 20 peso or $1 per day at check out - not a lot of money but something to pay.Room service is extra. There is nothing in the fridge in the room - also extra.Overall, we had a great time with friends and family. Just a few tweaks and things would be perfect.
