Our Opinion

A very unique 5-star hotel. The Mayakoba steps away from the conventional resort setting, situating near the forest portion of the resort grounds, rather than the beach. While it does divert from the usual resort scenery, many applaud the beautiful grounds. The resort has excellent guest services and great food. This is the perfect destination for those who are looking for a unique getaway to the Riviera Maya.

Absolutely fabulous

This was one of our top holidays ever. If you are looking for a child friendly, 5 star experience in Mexico, this is it. From the time of our arrival, till departure we were treated royally. We had a small problem with our room and management, thank you Milton, treated the issue very professionally. He made our experience even better than we could gave hoped for. I would highly recommend the Fairmont Mayakoba to anyone. This is our first visit here and will definitely return. Rooms were fantastic, views spectacular and ambience is so serene. Loved a boat trip we did on the property along the river canals.

Don't Be Fooled

Please Don't Be FooledFirst let me say that the Hotel Staff was GREAT. Silvia from customer service tried her best to make me happy, The Beach Staff was friendly and attentive and the Bell Staff was also really nice.I stayed at the Fairmont in Maui in November and it was the most luxurious hotel that i ever stayed in. So when looking for my trip to Mexico and saw the Luxury Fairmont Mayakoba i just booked it. These 2 hotels are not even close to the same level luxury. 1st of all nowhere on there website does it say that you need to take a golf cart everywhere. Unless you get a beach front Suite you are taking a gold cart.We had a deluxe Casita. (Golf Carts Rolling by every minute) Silvia did offer to move us after the 2nd night but we did not want to repack all our things The room was nice but i would not call it a luxury room. Blankets, Pillows, Sheets were nothing special. In fact i would call them itchy and scratchy. Get ready to PAY high prices for really average food. Night 1 we stayed at the bar and had some apps. i ordered the Tamerin Glazed wings which were rather good. Then we had Tuna Tartar on crisps ( Not the Exact Name of the dish) Tuna was slightly fishy and i did not eat it. My wife ordered the shrimp tacos, Three small tacos with 1 fried shrimp in each Very mediocre. The next night we ate at El Puerto. Vegetable Fried Rice came out with meat and fish in it we sent it back. Volcano roll tasted like old fish...we did not eat it. Then onto the $35 Buffet Breakfast. All the breakfast you want nothing special except for the $80 bill. On the beach. Servers were GREAT. We ordered a Burger and Quesadilla both were REALLY good. In fact i said to my wife that i really liked the WHITE cheese they used. Fast forward 1 day same order on the beach and the burger was DRY and overcooked and my quesadilla had some tan cheese (Mozzarella i assume) all melted out of it. That night back to the bar ordered the wings which we liked and out comes 6 pieces of fried chicken that does not even resemble what we ate 2 nights earlier. JUST BAD OVERPRICED FOOD. We went to Playa Del Carmen every other night for Dinner. Silvia knew i was unhappy and offered me a 25% discount on foodThere are SO MANY choices in that area Stay away from this one.If it was not for the Staff it would a 1 star....

Amazing resort

We stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba over Spring break March 2017 with our family of 4 including 2 16year olds. The property was well described in other TripAdvisor reviews so I won't repeat. It truly was nothing short of amazing and we have stayed in many beautiful resorts. We were looking for something different than your typical beautiful island beach resort and found it in this jungle paradise .... with the beautiful beach! What is remarkable about this resort is the staff. Everyone was so friendly, always smiling and always ready to make your stay enjoyable. Their customer service was authentic and effortless. As a former employee of a five star hotel, I was curious what the "best" job at this hotel was and each person I asked said their job was!A shout out to Cynthia in concierge who was fantastic! Very helpful in answering emails ahead of time to plan out activities and dinners and was even able to secure a reservation at the #1 TripAdvisor rated restaurant in Playa del Carmen (we did plan in advance but it was booked out on Open Table). Cynthina was so friendly and helpful on property as well with great recommendations and friendly honest advice. We reserved 2 king casitas and had paid to have the rooms connecting which is they only way to secure connecting since the resort is expansive. Just prior to arriving when requesting an area where we'd see wildlife, we were told there were two casitas right across from each other so wouldn't have to pay the connecting fee. I should have asked more questions because I didn't understand what the casitas were really like. As it turns out - they were in a beautiful section 500s (there is no bad section) but not next to each other. Each casita is its own little building and has 2 rooms on the first level and 2 on the second (with some that have connecting doors) then trees/plants inbetween the next casita. So very lovely and unique. For us it wasn't ideal to have the kids 2 casitas away. We spoke with the general manager explaining that we misunderstood when we chose to no longer do the connecting rooms and asked if there was something more suitable for our family to be together like a connecting room. Although the resort was booked, the general manager offered a 2bedroom suite that would become available in two days in the main part of the resort. The move was effortless and the suite beyond amazing! It was very spacious with it's own outdoor area and infinity edge rooftop pool! We were happy to have experienced the casitas since those were amazing in a different way but it was so nice to have our family together since that was our goal for this vacation. It was easy to see why the employees were so customer service orienteted - they are led by the example of the General Manager! 5 Stars all the way!

Perfect Combination of Luxury and Nature

My husband, our two sons and I recently visited the Fairmont Mayakoba. I must say, I can highly recommend the resort! We had a relaxing but yet active vacation amongst beautiful lagoons, mangroves and the Caribbean Sea. The service at the resort was outstanding. From the food and beverage staff to the golf cart drivers, everyone made sure to take great care of us. The two people that went out of their way for us, however, were our Butler Kevin and his Manager Julia. From reservations to treats in our room, those two truly made our stay unforgettable. I highly recommend booking a room in the beach area. There are rooms that are less pricey than the ones beach front, but are still just a few steps from the beach. And you will also have a beautiful few of the lagoon and much more privacy the beach front. You also must take the ferry tour though the canals. It is breathtaking. If you love nature, great service and just a touch of luxury, the Fairmont Mayakoba will be the perfect place for you!

Fantastic Family Friendly Facility

We stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba over spring break with our family of 5. It was just what we needed. We all enjoyed the pools, beaches, bicycles, nature trail and lagoon ride. The adult spa is heavenly. We were treated to a tour of the kitchen facilities and a private lunch with Chef Eric de Maeyer. What can we say but...FANTASTIC! Chef you made us feel special and welcome as if we were guests in your home. We would definitely recommend this resort to families with children or without for that matter.
