Generations Rivera Maya was a perfect vacation

Paco, Norma, and Ilse Did a great job keeping us busy playing volleyball. While Jesus and Bruno did a perfect job attending to our every needs. The Food was great.... Even made a new drink with the pool bartender.

Last minute get away

We booked this trip 2 days prior to departure so had no expectations. It turned out to be a fabulous get away at an excellent resort. The only negatives I can say about this resort are:1. Why was the Mediterranean restaurant only open once the entire week? 2. The pool is absolutely freezing!Aside from that we loved it!Everything from the rooms, to room service to restaurants/bars was top notch. The cabana service was amazing (Special thanks to Alejandra). We loved both options at lunch but especially enjoyed the outdoor patio with Jesus! And the trip would not have been complete without the great fun that my son had. Very special thank you to Paco for entertaining him for a week with endless hours of soccer, water polo and beach soccer. I hope we can return soon!

Nice little gem.

CHECK IN: Zero wait, quick, efficient, simple, champagne welcome. Golf cart takes you to room, luggage in tow (brought up by driver). Welcome to your vacation.RESORT: We must have gone during the USA's spring break, LOTS of kids. However, El Dorado Royale is right next door (connected by beautiful walking paths, so easy to access) and is Adult Only, you have full access to restaurants, bars, tennis courts, bikes, beach chairs & all pools. ROOM: All rooms are ocean front. Very nice rooms, clean, large fridge with the basics. Beds....I'm pretty picky about beds, this was by far the most comfortable bed I have slept in at any all inclusive. STAFF: Fantastic. Every single staff member we encountered were wonderful. There are some incredible stories behind the faces that serve you so kindly. The young Hostess at breakfast is a College graduate taking her Masters with plans in place to learn a 3rd language to further her career options. All staff have access to English classes, a Middle school and High school education and plans are in the making to offer College courses. All done after work hours! These are hard working people, with goals, ambitions, dreams. It was a pleasure to meet them. POOLS: 3 floors of walk-out pools, 1 very long pool the length of the resort. Pools feel cool at first but oh so refreshing. Nice BIG hot tub at El Dorado Royale, the perfect way to end your beach/pool day. Lots of lounge chairs, shade mainly comes from the many palm trees. Never a problem getting a lounger in either sun or shade. SUN BEDS: Generations: Approx 10 sunbeds near the pool lining the property before you hit the beach. Approx 20 more down at the beach. Many loungers available. All first come first served. Approx 6 'Members Only sunbeds.. El Dorado/ Royale has many lounge chairs in either sun or shade, hammocks, sunbeds. BEACH: Sand is soft, no need for water shoes. Some areas great for wading in the ocean. In order to preserve the shoreline, there are huge sand barges and metal blocks (nothing that would ruin your view or experience). Not a pristine beach. If you want a challenging workout, walk the beach (not a flat easy walk) but hey, it's still the ocean and beautiful. If you are looking for an easy casual walk on the beach, this is not the place for that. FOOD: Nice variety of restaurants. Not all of them are open every night. If you are Adult only, you could eat somewhere different for every meal for a week between the two resorts. Room service menu was basic and available 24hrs. Breakfast on the balcony with the ocean as your eye candy - Priceless. RESORT DOCTOR: Yup, had to call the Doc the day after we arrived. We called the Butler, who patched us through to the Dr, who was in our room within 15 minutes, gave me a thorough exam (incredible bed side manner and perfect English) and I had antibiotics within an hour. (Bronchitis contracted from back home, not at resort) Meds started to work within hours, still had an amazing vacation. Staff checked up on me daily with such kindness. PLAYA DEL CARMEN: Easy 25min cab ride. 42 blocks of shops & restaurants on 5th Ave. A full shopping mall is in the middle of it all. Neat to see the two ferries coming and going to Cozumel (located at the end of 5th Ave.). Once again, Gracias Mexico!

We obviously picked the wrong time to go.

Everything started off great. Good flight, private taxi transfer from airport, pleasant welcome/check-in then taken to our room and shown how to use the facilities by our own butler, Vanessa. Our room was 18181, First floor, Block 18. It was a lovely room with a balcony pool running the whole length of the block that you shared with 10 other rooms - very impressive. Unfortunately it was tucked in the corner by the main building so there was no view and the room was very dark.Vanessa told us that the hotel was fully booked and no alternative rooms were available. So, onward and upward we accepted this and unpacked and explored the facilities. The first meal we were to have was to be dinner and after perusing the menu we decided to go to the Wine Kitchen. After being seated we were given a set menu completely different from the one advertised outside. It appeared that it was American Independence Day (silly us, we are English) and the food was turkey or turkey. I don't eat turkey!! We were told that all the restaurants were serving the same menu. The waiter was lovely and said he would have a word with the chef who cooked us a fabulous steak instead. After dinner we decided to have a quiet drink and relax. We located the 'Sling Bar' only to find it was full with raucous Americans in full swing - it was after all 'American Independence Day'. We retreated to find the only other bar - the 'Swell Bar'. This is the pool bar by day and the only seating choice is six plastic patio chairs or the sunbeds from around the pool.We find it difficult to give a balanced review because the next few days were very noisy with 13 weddings - (all American) obviously taking advantage of their public holiday. On Tuesday after the party goers had gone home the atmosphere changed completely, it was actually like a decent hotel. Good points. - Excellent staff and all the restaurants were wonderful. We particularly enjoyed the Chef Market for breakfast - (Debora was a gem) and the Palms Gourmet Terrace for lunch. - Use of the 2 sister resorts if you can walk that far - don't rely on the golf buggies because they don't come as advertised. - Nice rooms if they are in the right location. Bad points. - Although the man-made reef will eventually provide many benefits for the environment, it is ugly and prohibits use of the sea. Unlike other places we have visited in the Caribbean there is nowhere to sit and relax with a drink - the Sling bar is indoor and cold with the air conditioning, the Swell bar has no comfortable seating. Due to the orientation of the resort, all the pool and sunbathing areas are in shade from about 2pm onwards.

Beautiful rooms...but resort not as kid friendly as we thought.

We were there from March 2, 2017 through March 11, 2017 for my daughters wedding. We have been to the Riviera Maya many times and just love it. We chose Generations because the resort looked beautiful and the food was supposed to be outstanding. Forty five of our friends and family came, about 20 rooms. The wedding planners were awesome and did a great job. Gabby really pulled off a beautiful wedding. She was awesome. So the wedding was great! The rest of the time...not so great. The resort staff was sometimes friendly. If you asked for something...Like baby food..It took forever or you never got it. There was only one buffet for breakfast and lunch, none for dinner. Family's with small children had to eat dinner in one of the 3 restaurants that were not very accommodating to children. You had to wait 30 min or longer to get in and the service was so slow the kids really got crabby and tired. So our family's with kids had to do room service. The food was great...but very, small portions! Be sure to order appetizers, salads, and dessert along with your meal. The pool was so cold...even the kids pool, we never used it. For a family friendly resort the kids pool was a joke. One round small pool. So forget about paying extra for a swim out room. I have never have been to Mexico when the pool was so cold! The beach is not for swimming. The water was warmer than the pool...but way too rocky. Try to get a drink at the pool bar, Good Luck! I tipped well so the waiters would come back...but they took FOREVER!!! Even if you went up to the bar...the bartenders ignored you. When we booked I wanted to book a 1 bedroom suite for the first night and last night. A two bedroom suite for the 7 days in between. My son and his children were coming the second night. Generations said I could not do that. I had to pay for the two bedroom suite the whole stay (an extra 1678.00). So when we got there, the adjoining room was not available. They wanted to give me two 20 minute massages instead. I said no...I want my money back. They said they were working on it. I still have not received the money. The fridge in the room was only restocked once the whole week.We ate dinner at the Wine Kitchen one evening and 2 of our friends who just got in came into the restaurant. We wanted to pull 2 chairs up to the table and the staff went crazy! The manager came out and yelled at our friends and said they were not nice! I told him not to speak to our friends like that and we invited them to sit down! My husband said all we needed was 2 chairs and they said they did not have them. So he offered to find them. We were so embarrassed! I could not believe how we were treated! The staff in all the restaurants were not very nice. Except for breakfast. We always asked to sit in Esther's section and she was wonderful. She got the kids cups with lids (which they don't normally do) and was sweet and kept pouring coffee! She tried to get the baby food from room service and sometimes it came. The butlers were really useless...Everytime you asked for reservations to the adult only resort for dinner, they said they were booked. We went with out reservations and got in no problem. To sum it all up...The wedding was beautiful...very pricey for an all inclusive...over 15000.00 for 45 people. The resort not at all worth the price. I blame management. They need to spend more time with the staff and tell them what is expected of them.. There are so many beautiful resorts in this part of Mexico to choose from, the staff needs to be way more accommodating to keep people coming. I would never go back to generations.
