Our Opinion

Located in the middle of the resort, Grand Bahia Principe Coba has better amenities than the other two Bahia Principe properties but is about a 10-15 minute walk to the beach, however, trams run throughout the property. A great pool area and clubhouse with Internet access. It has its own buffet restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Also check out the sister resorts next door, Grand Bahia Principe Akumal and Grand Bahia Principe Tulum.

Overview
The Grand Bahia Principe Coba is an oasis in which to unwind. Rejuvenate yourself mentally and physically, surrounded by crystal-clear waters and a sandy white beach. A self-contained resort complete with spa, shops, piano bar, sports bar and a disco, Grand Bahia Principe Coba is located behind Grand Bahia Principe Akumal in the beautiful Riviera Maya.

Location: Next to Grand Bahia Principe Akumal, 35 min to Playa del Carmen, 20 min from the Mayan Ruins at Tulum, 90 min from the Cancun airport.

Highlights
  • Kids activities for all ages (baby, child, teen) plus a large waterpark
  • Lush, tropical surroundings and wildlife
  • Large pools with loungers and swim-up bars
  • Dedicated section at the beach with beach bar
  • Great family suites with amenities and mini-bar options for kids
  • Close proximity to Mayan Ruins at Tulum

Excellent resort

This was our first Bahia resort and had been recommended to us and did not disappoint. After about 30 all inclusive trips to various destinations, this resort had the best food, overall, of any resort we'd been to. Even the buffet was varied with dishes I had never seen. Our room was your standard room. Mexico beds are hard, people--get used to it. My particulars--the public bathrooms were all impeccable, especially those in the pool area, which are usually all wet and soggy during the day, These were always clean. Yes, the bartenders were busy, but Jose and Rene at the pool bar took great care of us. I do not understand why more people don't tip, They work SO hard for everyone. The grounds were beautiful and the transportation (which you will need due to the size of the resort(s) were plentiful. If you do want to visit a town, Puerto Aventuras is about ten minutes away. There are tons of beautiful birds and iguanas roaming the property. I'd go back in a minute.

Amazing hotel, amazing food & amazing holiday

This was my first visit to Mexico and it certainly didn't disappoint! The room was very spacious, the bed was supposedly a double but it was actually like 2 double beds put together. The bathroom had a bath which was a bonus and you could actually fit in it rather than being cramped up in a small one. We had a mini bar which was restocked every other day and we had some english speaking TV which is a bonus! The food was out of this world, we had so many al a catre restaurants to choose from as well we was well and truly spoilt for choice. My favourite was the Asian restaurant as they cook the food in front of you on a show table which was very impressive and the food was unreal. The buffet restaurant, every holiday I have been on I am usually disappointed with what food the buffet has to offer, however this was different. Every night there was something different to eat and the food was hot! Not cold or luke warm like most places it was hot and looked fresh. They also made fresh donuts and had chocolate fountains like come on whats not to like about that? The pools were modern and clean and big, it never felt over crowded as there was so many places to go on the resort to sunbathe or swim. I would definitely recommend this hotel and resort to anyone going to Mexico, I will definitely be booking to come back for sure.

Overcrowded, too many people for available facilities

We stayed at Grand Bahia Principe 3 times over the years. Each visit was progressively less satisfying. The main reason is that the company has been adding more rooms without an increase in dining or recreational options. The result is that everyhing is crowded at all times. We will not return.

Nice, but not for Beach People!

I went to the Coba with my family and a few friends (7 of us in total) between Jan 8th and Jan 15th. This was our 3rd visit to the Bahia Complex and we have always enjoyed the resort. The major concern was that they have now taken the best part of the beach and made it for only Akumal and Sian kaan guests.I have never been a fan of segregation and the beach is the last place this should be done! I will now break down and score different areas of the resort.1) The Resort Grounds 10 out of 10The grounds are kept in amazing shape, hats off the the grounds crew.2) The Rooms 8 out of 10The cleanliness is great but we experienced quite a shortfall when it came to the mini bar. We received a bag of chips, a chocolate bar and a few drinks upon arrival and nothing afterwards.3) The Food 8 out of 10The buffet always had selection and we never found it cold. The Gourmet restaurant at the Coba was a dissapointment. The Brazilian and Mediterranean a la cartes were both very good.4) The Lobby Bars 10 out of 10Both at the Premiere Lobby and the Coba Lobby the Liquor is Top Shelf and the service was great.5) The Pool Bars 10 out of 10The Pool bars, mainly the Premiere Pool bar are well run and also serve Premium Liquor.6) The Pools 8 out of 10The pools could be kept a bit warmer and a bit cleaner. But the size and design are nice. 7) The Beach 2 out of 10We are beach people and go south to enjoy the Aqua waters and white sand. The only small section of this beach that would be acceptable is for the High Class only!!!The rest of the beach is full of rocks for the first 30 feet and then you have 30 feet of waist deep water before you encounter the massive beach sand bags. I realize that the bags are to prevent further erosion, but that doesn't change the fact that they are there. I have been to some amazing beaches throughout the Carribean and The mediterranean and this is not one of them.8) The Staff 11 out of 10Yes I said eleven out of 10. This place is successful because of the people who take amazing pride and caring in their jobs. A very special shout out to Jose, Rene and Erik at the premiere pool bar and to Omar at the Coba buffet. You guys are great and this makes up for other areas. Gracias.Summary The reason I gave this resort a 4 out of 5 is because it is a beach destination and this is lacking in true Mayan Beach quality. If you are someone who wants a great all around deal for food, pools and fantastic staff then this is your place. Go and enjoyMy wife and I will not be returning because the number one box on our list can't be ticked off. Thanks to all of the staff for a very enjoyable vacation from me and my family.

Lovely hotel/Complex but...

For us there were too many children and loud people but our own fault as we went between Christmas & New Year. Wish we had gone adults only at one of the other hotels on the complex - Tulum, Akamul or S'ian Khan. Flight from Stansted there was 10.5 hours. On arrival the airport in Mexico a nightmare as we had to put all our luggage through xray machine again. Then 1.5hour journey to the hotel. Food & drink suitable for all. Antonio & Alba who served drinks at the table were fantastic. Room service was good, fridge re-stocked daily. Think Thomson reps could have told you a bit more about the complex and the train vehicle that you can get to take you round as we were only allowed to Tulum on our wristbands which we didn't know and if we had we would've known then we would have probably upgraded. They were more interested in pushing the trips. We went to Coco Bongo arranged through Thomsons - very expensive for what it was. Think it would have been cheaper if we booked ourselves. We took a taxi as the rep advised and that was 420 Mexican pesos each way. One important thing is on the way back you will need cash for the airport as we had to pay £55pp (this can be paid in $ and peso's). You have to pay for WiFi. Staff friendly.
