Our Opinion

Located in the middle of the resort, Grand Bahia Principe Coba has better amenities than the other two Bahia Principe properties but is about a 10-15 minute walk to the beach, however, trams run throughout the property. A great pool area and clubhouse with Internet access. It has its own buffet restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Also check out the sister resorts next door, Grand Bahia Principe Akumal and Grand Bahia Principe Tulum.

Overview
The Grand Bahia Principe Coba is an oasis in which to unwind. Rejuvenate yourself mentally and physically, surrounded by crystal-clear waters and a sandy white beach. A self-contained resort complete with spa, shops, piano bar, sports bar and a disco, Grand Bahia Principe Coba is located behind Grand Bahia Principe Akumal in the beautiful Riviera Maya.

Location: Next to Grand Bahia Principe Akumal, 35 min to Playa del Carmen, 20 min from the Mayan Ruins at Tulum, 90 min from the Cancun airport.

Highlights
  • Kids activities for all ages (baby, child, teen) plus a large waterpark
  • Lush, tropical surroundings and wildlife
  • Large pools with loungers and swim-up bars
  • Dedicated section at the beach with beach bar
  • Great family suites with amenities and mini-bar options for kids
  • Close proximity to Mayan Ruins at Tulum

First experience with all inclusive...2 thumbs up!...from Nanny.

I travelled with my daughter and husband and 2 grandsons age 5 and 2. Our direct flight from London Ontario to Cancun with Airtransat was perfect. The resort was awesome! The pool, the children's splash park the shows and the food were all very good.We preferred the buffet over the restaurants. This was due to the makeup of our group more than anything. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The rooms were very nice. We had adjoining rooms. They were clean, comfortable and well stocked.I would stay here again.

You will not be disappointed

Arrived yesterday from GBP Coba, so while fresh in my mind here are my top ten things that you need to know: 1 . Resort was Super Big and lots of people, if you like being around different people every day this is good place.2. Kids Water park was fun. Even for my 12 year old, we met people with 2 year old that said it was a bit much. It was a nice distraction for the day. There is even a life guard that kept everyone in line (my daughter called him Mr. Whistle).3. Buffet food was fantastic and everywhere - if you were hungry there was food to be found (snack bars and buffet). There was so much variety we had a hard time choosing what to eat. (My daughter loved the Turkey Ham).4. A-la-Cart Restaurant - book early. Brazilian was great (do not fill up on the appetizer buffet before hand), Mexican was great too ( the appetizer buffet was better than my Mexican Flank, so in this case eat all the wonderful appetizers here), Don Pablo Gourmet was okay. 5. GBP App for your phone - Download was easy, but you need your room number for it to work, so you can't do anything until you arrive. Good for keeping track of daily activities and weather.6. Beach - Sand was nice, chairs could be found, swimming was not so much fun due to the wave barriers (so no diving in the waves)6. Evening Shows - we saw a few at Tulum and a few at Coba. The Acrobat show was awesome, we actually went to see it twice (Coba and Tulum) and foregone the Michael Jackson show. Get this the show was so good, they actually go a standing ovation at Coba.7.Bicycle Tour - was fun and a nice distraction. Morning tour is at 8am and tours the property, the evening tour is at 4pm and you go through the Sian Khan resort and drive by the Residence and golf course on the other side of highway.8. Rooms - Very clean, bathroom was all marble and nice. Water in bathtub was yellow so we stuck to showers. We did ask for upper level and two beds an did not get either. However, there was no bugs to be found on lower level and not having to walk the stairs was kind of nice in retrospect (and we are fit). The sofa bed was turned down and proved to be adequate, they offered a single bed cot, but this would have just cluttered the room.9. Evening activities - at Tulum after the show the crowd spilled out into the Bar which is a lot more fun then the Terrace at COBA. Sit at the bar, more likely to strike up casual conversation...say hi to Fredy.10. Time share reps - Just smile and say hi and keep walking. Did not bother us, but saw many folks having breakfast with smooth talking guys scribbling down #s on brochures. One day after ordering our drinks and leaving our stuff on the table, we went to get our food and when we got back to our table there was a couple and a timeshare rep going over the brochure all the while our drinks were there and our personal belongings. Not impressed and shows disrespect.Email me if you want to know more.

Big and a very nice resort.

I enjoyed my 7 days very much at this resort. My wife and i really liked the quick actions of the staff when you needed help. I also really liked attention to detail in everything.I would go back again and i enjoyed the service of staff at the buffet.Lisabeth is a great hostess and always greeted us daily with a big smile and kind words. The food was very good, and something for all taste.I choked on a piece of food one evening and the dining room supervisor was quick to help me, i cant thank her enough for the help and re assurance she gave to me and my wife. The resort is huge and we used the trams most of the time. I love walking and would have walked even more but had a sore knee.Things i did not like, number one is the safe, i dont mind paying extra for it, but the key idea is dumb, should be a combination i can chose.A little more assistance from the bell boy when we left getting our suit cases to the bus would have been nice. Most of the time they were great. We went over tot he Tulum side and can,t say we really were impressed. Very slow bar staff. One bar tender on duty only for the Michael Jackson show, who ignored my wife for almost a half hour at the bar. Also a sewer smell around a few of the villas there. The Coba resort is a much nicer place to stay at.

"Another amazing vacation from your favorite Bahia Lovers"

Dear Don Pablo andTo our dear Grand Bahia Principe Coba Directors and Managers,We have always selected Coba in all the years we've been on vacation in Grand Bahia Mayan Riviera. This is one of our favorite hotel of all four. We know that all four are 5 stars from our review. We have always chosen Coba for many reasons:One; Directors, Managers and staff that we knew for all the years that we have been coming became our friends. They were the best in their job, awesome and always there to assist us from A to Z and we compliment their help and assistance. (Sergio, Faozi (now in Samana), Jesus Salinas, Rodrigo (Roy), Oscar Alberto (now in Sian Kaan), Erika Morales (now in Tulum), Sidharta (also now in Tulum), Hector, Jose (Chuc), Barbara (front desk), Jessica (Golden/Premiere). Two: The Band, without them our vacation would be so boring if we don't have dancing every night. This is our night life during our vacation. We don't smoke and drink, but love to dance to their wonderful music. We thank all of them for their awesome music. Thank you so much for your wonderful music Tony, David, Luis, Omar, Fish, Camilo, Jerget, Carolina, Paulina, all of you are the best ...A #1... but the two ladies who left were also our favorite... Bring back Sharon and Fannie... both were awesome...gave them songs to learn and in one day they did it and learned them...these are true singers... 3. Premiere/Kukulcan staff... they jump to help and serve you right away.. Thanks for all your services for all these years we have known you.. Joel (the best) Wendy, Manuel, Sandra, Karina, Jorge, Mateo, Isabel, Angelina, Rommel, Andres, Eliel (cook). Arianne, Landy and Norma. Premiere Lobby Bar.. Gabriela, Olga, Ofelia.. Love them all..they are our family.4. Animacion Team..They are there to make you happy and to have fun.. thank you to all Coba animation team.. Luis (Angel), Francisco, Dennis, Romeo, Erik, Pamela, Josimar, Michel, and the best man ever Jose (Chuk ?) ... To our maid and staff who supply our drinks in the fridge.. thank you, thank you so much. The food was very good. We love our room.. fantastic..no complaints whatsoever. Staff were always friendly, fun loving, respectful, fantastic and always go out of their way to help and serve us. We want to commend you and your staff/team for all your efforts for making our vacation perfectly awesome. We see from day one that the service has a great quality, both because of its comfortable and appropriate facilities, as well as service and constant concern for our comfort. Thank you especially for being aware of our requirements. Thanks again to the team that made our stay a good time, comforting and secure. We would definitely recommend this hotel to our family and friends. In fact, we will be back in November with our family..Bahia LoversDelia and Jerry

Excellent vacation! Traveled with Celiacs

This is the second time we visited this resort! This trip I was concerned a bit as my daughter has recently been diagnosed with celiac’s disease ( gluten allergy). I was afraid she would have issues with the food, So I packed gluten-free bread pasta and a suitcase full of snack she could eat. But thankfully I did not have to worry The staff went out of their way to help serves her food she could eat!All the restaurants had on hand Fresh hot Gluten free baguette, Gluten free pasta!! it was amazing. The a la carte restaurants were very easy they just showed us what she could and couldn’t eat off the menu. ( she ate a lot of Filet minion lucky girl !!) The buffet was more tricky, as chances for cross contamination was high! So every meal we had at a buffet, the manager would get the chef and they would ask what she wanted and they would make it! I was amazing.Food Allergy tip: Before you go on your trip make a small card in Spanish that explains every detail about your allergy. This was very helpful. I showed this card to every waiter , manager, chef so they really understand what she can not eat as sometimes things get lost in translation. if you can laminate it and make a few copies ( I lost a few) and went swimming with one in my pocket) This was the best thing I did.The restaurant staff Moses, Miguel, Angles, and Andre did such a great job. the made her feel special and always made sure her food was Gluten free.Chefs Roberto and Vinny? something starting with a V ( in the main buffet at lunch) made excellent food for her!Same with the staff at the Japanese restaurant they were amazing with her allergy. She was ill one night, but it was minor so maybe a bit of cross contamination?? I don’t know. But I will take it as a win as she ate 21 meals and only got slightly ill once.In the main buffet, the waiter Filigonio was fantastic. We had him 2 years ago and made sure we sat in his section on this trip too!He was great with the kids and always had our drink ready before we even asked. We did not see too many shows as our dinners were later and we were on a relax schedule, but we did have drinks in the outdoor terrasse with live music.Kids ages 9-12 had a great time in the pool, waterpark, and beach! Beach was great this year no seaweed!!We did the go on the excursion Xel-Ha most beautiful place. this was so much fun. we spent all day there. The food was included as well. But for my daughterI brought food from our resort as she was afraid to eat there in case they did not understand her allergy. Snorkeling was amazing. you need to spend the whole day there! We loved our trip so much we will return again next year!
