Our Opinion

A good resort destination in the Riviera Maya. The location of the hotel is by a beautiful beach. The variety of buffet and a la carte items are OK. There have been reports of issues concerning resolving maintenance issues of your room, with some travelers reporting great delays in addressing such matters. However, it does not take away from the overall experience of the resort.

Only go if it's a good deal

We booked a Sian Kaan room. We have done upgraded/butler service rooms before, so my opinion was based on other resorts. I had emailed the hotel prior to our arrival to arrange an early check in/late check out. My email was never answered. Upon our arrival, we were taken to the wrong area to check in. We were then taken to the correct place where we were asked to prove we had paid?? We were not able to get into the room until the normal check in time. Our check in was very rushed and we were basically dropped off at the buffet for 2 hours until we could check in. We were never told about the private area on the roof top, which we discovered ourselves. There was construction in the room next to us (I had emailed to ask about that too and didn't receive a response) for the first couple days but it didn't start until 9am and was over by 3pm. Our toilet leaked and our outside umbrella was broken. We called the front desk AND told our butler AND these items were never fixed (we were there 5 nights). We also had spiders, cockroaches, and small white bugs in our room. Our butler reserved our dinners but several of the restaurants didn't have the reservation. They still accommodated us though. Overall, the food was really good! The only restaurant that really disappointed us was MakiTaco. It was basically sushi and it was not as good as the sushi you could get near the beach. The buffet was varied each day and had lots to choose from. The drinks were delicious. We had everything from wine to champagne to frozen beach drinks. They never disappointed. The staff was always very nice. I would recommend bringing pesos because they exchange rate is bad at the resort. We tipped a lot.Even though certain areas were supposed to only be adults, there were always children in them. The staff would see them but not say anything. You could not reserve the beds in the adult areas (this was a perk at several other resorts we have visited) and people would come out and put towels out to save their spot. One day, a bed was taken all day and we only saw the people once. There were not enough chairs/beds in the adults only area. Most of the beach chairs were worn out so they were very uncomfortable. The water was very rocky and you could not enter it without shoes. It was very beautiful and clear. The pools were nice but they were not cleaned well and there was debris in the same spot the whole time we were there. Every day, a very loud group of people took over the infinity pool and swim up bar. Even though this is a "quiet" resort, the people brought their own speakers and set them up and partied at the bar...they were very loud and rude to staff and other guests. We booked this resort because we expected it to be low-key. We were really disappointed that this kind of behavior was allowed to take place. I thought maybe it was me and then we started talking to other guests who felt the same way.We got 2 beach massages and I would highly recommend it. Nene and Jasmine were AMAZING!We had to ask several times about a late check out and we were told several different things. Because it was so difficult, we just checked our bags and hung out at the buffet. The kids area looked amazing! We did not travel with children but everything looked really nice. We saw the kids in the kids program a couple times and they seemed like they were having fun.Overall, if you can get a good/cheap deal, I would definitely recommend Grand Oasis Tulum. If you are expecting a swanky all inclusive, keep looking. It just doesn't put the finishing touches or go the extra mile. The staff was not eager to make you happy.

Might be great if you pay for the expensive rooms??

The good:The beach, the sun, the ocean....!!Resort seeemed half empty. Never had a problem getting beach chairs, no waiting at the bars, no waiting at the buffet, always got a reservation at the restaurants. The bartenders at the infinity pool bar were excellent - Jesus, Estephania, Jose, and Antonio(?).Salad and fruit was excellent - fresh and delicious. I kept looking for the crunchy almond dessert, but only saw it on our first night. :( Lots of towels. Hot water for every shower we had.Enjoyed the adults-only area - very relaxing.Coffee & Me - second best part of the resort! (the beach is the first!) Especially as we weren't privileged to have a nespresso machine in our room.Awesome service! Great coffee! Busiest place on the resort. The not-so-good:The front desk staff seem like its their first week on the job, and they are not quite sure what they are doing....it's unorganized and very "make do" - searching for papers and wrist bands (kept in a cardboard box that is never put back in the same place). There is a specific "cashier" spot for changing money, but it's not labeled. Bewildered looks when checking in.The hotel is a maze of hallways that all look the same - and our room was smack dab in the middle of the maze. Quite a trek, especially if you take a wrong turn.We booked the most inexpensive room - the Grand - as we only sleep there. So we didn't mind the 2 double beds pushed together or the dilapidated bathroom. We had a hard time sleeping though. The AC was so loud and only had 2 settings - on and off. When we complained to the front desk, the attendant wrote our room number on a scrap of paper with many other room numbers. No change in the AC. There are no screens on the patio doors, so we wore bug spray to bed after the first night of mosquitos. We were also fooled by the picture of the "Grand" room on the website - there was a nespresso machine!! We bought pods to bring with us - oh the lovely coffee we would have in our room! But.....the picture lied. Only the most expensive rooms, the Sian Ka'an, get the tasty nespresso coffee. We had the awful motel drip coffee machine in our inexpensive room....The food was ok - comparable to what we've had in Cuba. Wifi - please offer a 7 day plan! I know there is only the 5 day so people that have to pay can subsidize the free wifi the Sian Ka'an (most expensive) rooms get....but really! I'm sure most people come for 7 days and would like wifi for the whole 7 days without having to pay twice. Or have free wifi in the lobby - maybe there would be people using the martini bar then! Also - $8 per day for a key to the safe??!! US dollars as well!!! I hope this extortionate price is to save up for digital safes with a combination, not a key....Even Cuba has digital safes!!We did enjoy our vacation - the sunshine, beach and ocean is what we came for after all. However, we could have saved $1000 and gone to Cuba for the experience this hotel provides.

We enjoyed our time

We stayed here in March of last year. I was compelled to write a review based on all the negative reviews I've seen and hopefully persuade some on the fence about coming here to definitely do it. Let's get the negatives out of the way: 1. We got there earlier than check in allowed. The front desk seemed confused at first and it took about 20 minutes to get our information and such. At the time we were with our 5 yr old so it seemed like it took forever but 20 minutes wasn't bad in my book since they brought us drinks while we waited. Our room wasn't ready so we walked around the hotel. Parts of it were older (our room was in that section) but you could tell it was maintained. 2. The floor to our room was extremely slippery. If I set up a camera, I'm sure I would have caught a guest or two slipping (my girlfriend and son both slipped). They did put up a sign later which was nice. 3. They need more food variety. I really enjoyed the food but the restaurants served the same meals each night. I would've loved to see a variety in the menu, especially in the Mexican one. 4. My biggest complaint was the guy who "was searching for us". I didn't know the hotel allowed someone to sell timeshares. He had told us he was part of the hotel and was there to give us a tour. Since we were there early I thought that would be great. He showed us all around and then went into his speech about timeshares. Not something that I liked. The positives:1. I would say 95% of the staff was friendly and eager to please. Our waiter in the Mexican restaraunt was awesome and very entertaining. He had us in sombrero's and paid a lot of attention to my son. I wish there was one of him in each of the other places.2. Pools.... It felt like the place had so many pools and a lot of them were empty... We the discovered the hidden pools up on the rooftop, so much fun and great view.3. It was my girlfriends birthday and I was able to have one of the kitchens provide a small cake and then the concierge also was able to get the Mariachi band to sing happy birthday to her. My son loved it... my girlfriend, well she was a bit embarrassed. lol4. Lots of places to eat and drink. There were a lot of options where we could eat. I didn't know about one of the restaurants having a dress code, so we missed out on that one but the others were ok by us. I do wish they were open longer.5. Housekeeping staff was wonderful. Everyday they did something with the towels and kept our minibar fully loaded.6. Room was very clean. I did notice a musty smell but I think it came more from the humidity outside versus really being from the room. We got used to it. I would love to come back again but I haven't been able to find a package like we did last year that included airfare. If one pops up we will definitely stay here again.

We will be back

We had a great family vacation at Grand Oasis! My children's first all inclusive type holiday and our first time using a kids club for daytime activities. The kids got to explore all over the resort and loved the girls there...Yulia, Ilse, Jess and Brenda! The resort was definitely situated on one of the best stretch of beaches in that area with snorkeling right out front. Saw tons of fish and stingray. Our main feedback....pls heat your hottubs!!!!

Read the terrible reviews!!!

I often skip past the harshest reviews on Trip Advisor, because no place is perfect. But in the case of Oasis Grand Tulum, every one of the harsh reviews I've read tonight are true.We had horrible, horrible service from three different management staff. They were worse than useless and outright hostile towards us. The people managing seating at the buffet were annoying and made many people wait needlessly and rudely. The head waiter at the Italian restaurant walked past staff at another restaurant and told them we were a problem group in Spanish, loud and audibly, as if we couldn't possibly understand Spanish. This was because we had he audacity to request a ten person table. Apparently pushing together two plastic tables is problematic for them.Besides that, and the other terrible reviews already written, I don't have tons more to add. Set your expectations very low if you decide to go here. The rooms and the facilities aren't the greatest, but that would be foregivable, if the service wasn't so rotten. If you do go, tip the bartending and wait staff! There were some real standouts (thanks Jose and Jesus! You guys made the stay bearable).
