Our Opinion

A good resort destination in the Riviera Maya. The location of the hotel is by a beautiful beach. The variety of buffet and a la carte items are OK. There have been reports of issues concerning resolving maintenance issues of your room, with some travelers reporting great delays in addressing such matters. However, it does not take away from the overall experience of the resort.

Some good and some not so good

The good: I love the architecture and beach location. It was so beautiful, remote and mostly quiet. We had an oceanfront room with no patio, which was ok because we weren't in our room that much. The room was nice, maybe a bit dated but comfy with a/c (which leaked all over the floor one night). We had free wifi for our entire visit but the phone on our room did not work for the majority of our stay and was not repaired even after I reported it. There were a number of nice outdoor areas, good activities and great beach access. I felt very safe at the resort as there was good security, staff are diligent and we were remote. The bad: this resort had some rules/policies that were not clearly communicated and caused me inconvenience and embarrassment. This was especially true of the different wristbands, food venues and what was/was not included. For example to eat dinner guests have to line up at their restaurant of choice (except the buffet) and make a reservation in person at 4pm, but really at 330. I could not call or reserve early in the day. So when we went on a day tour we could only eat at the buffet as we didn't get back in time to stand in a line up to make a reservation. This is very inconvenient and I thought poor customer service (guests are servicing the resort on this one). Room service is "included" but you have to pay about 175 pesos, so it's not really included. Some of their rules are applied inconsistently; I went to the buffet and walked in, chose a table and helped myself three days in a row, only to be asked to leave by a greeter on the fourth visit because she wanted me to stand in line outside to be seated. This was embarrassing and I didn't understand why the change occurred or, if the practise was just not explained to me clearly from the start.Last, some of the staff at the resort were wonderful, friendly and welcoming. Others however, were not, and I felt at times that they were mocking me. Gold stars go to the concierge, the busboy staff and the coffee and me lady who was a pleasure every morning. Some of the restaurant staff were good and some of the bartenders were good as well.

You want to know? Here's a FULL Review

The Quick Review (See full review below)• This resort is small enough that you can get to know the staff and have easy access to all the amenities of the resort and the beach, but large enough to enjoy the full experience you are seeking. The design of the resort makes you feel secluded from everything else. • Don't miss the Foam Party! It's in the kids’ area and a HUGH HIGHLIGHT!• The resort does a great job of keeping the calm and romantic feel with a separation of an awesome kids’ zone.• The food is fabulous. Many were surprised with how awesome the buffet was. It was one of the most popular places. Especially because it had the self-serve soft ice cream! • My favorite restaurant was “Bites” it's quaint, not busy, sits in doors or by the pool, the best food and decorated to the nines!• The "Coffee and Me" remains my ultimate favorite hangout. Its decor is modern and pops! The staff would prepare us "special drinks" like an iced chocolate or a special hot chocolate! I'd go back just for those!• The rooms were spacious and very clean. The staff made sure everything was perfect!• The Smart Car rental is a great option. Driving in Mexico isn’t as scary as you may think. Suggestions• Book tours once you get to the hotel, because they will have good prices and will make sure you go and do what you really want. They have good insight to what the area offers.• Know the difference between Lite and Sian Ka’an ….• Make sure you always ask what your options are, so you don’t miss opportunities to enjoy the resort.THE FULL REVIEWWe travel extensively and have been to several all-inclusive resorts in Mexico from Cancun to Tulum. If you are looking for a great deal with all the perks, then you’ll want to read this extensive review. This is our second year at this resort. It was a couples’ vacation for my family, 5 couples all together. The Property-Some resorts are so small they offer simply lounging, and others are so large one could spend all his or her time looking for each other. This resort is perfect size so if you have other people with you, you run into them on the property and can find everything. Beautiful walk way, gardens and fountains (pics attached) maintenance on grounds are immaculate! Some resorts have a hike or path to the beach. The Grand Oasis Tulum has a few feet to the beach! I could see rays swimming in the water from my room! The beach is smooth and kept very clean. It's a little rocky in the ocean so swim shoes are nice but it makes for great snorkeling. The Activities-It's nice to lounge for a bit but I like to move while getting that tan!HUGE HIGHLIGHT! Don't miss the Foam Party! It's in the kids’ area so it didn't seem that many people knew about it, but it was nothing I've ever seen before. Others missed out!Sports: We loved beach volleyball twice a day. You can also play volleyball with the staff on the court, Tennis, Snorkeling (gear was free for Si'an Khan) Kayaks, I'm sure there was more but that's what I enjoyed.Exercise: Simple Stretching, Yoga, Zumba, Pilates, and more. They had bikes so you could ride on the property. Beautiful ride!Kids Activities-They have a dedicated kid pirate themed play/swim area with its own pool side kid bar. I noticed the resort hasn't updated the pictures for it since its new, but it looks fabulous. While we were there they were constructing a new large play area in another part of the resort as well with all kinds of activities for the kids! We are hoping to bring our kids next time.Places to Eat-Too many to list! My favorite restaurant was “Bites” it's quaint, not busy, sits in doors or by the pool, the best food and decorated to the nines! The "Coffee and Me" remains my ultimate favorite hangout. Its decor is modern and pops! We don't drink coffee or alcohol so the staff would prepare us "special drinks" and then everyone following would order the same. They also offer icy drinks like a chocolate shake! I'd go back just for those! We love the new hours! Several eateries are open 7am-11pm. If you are hungry after 11pm be prepared to wait a little while as it is sit down and not buffet style. There was a bit of confusion for people booking reservations for Lite guests. It seems to me they are just testing ways to accommodate all their guests. I'm sure once they have it down, it will be more efficient. Sian Ka'an guests have first dibs and can reserve their entire week when they arrive. The food is fabulous. I heard a lot of people saying they were surprised with how awesome the buffet was. It was one of the most popular places. Especially because it had the self-serve soft ice cream! The sushi bar was a big hit. Everyone loved getting their sushi prepared fresh in front of them. They even had classes on how to prepare your own at home. The Staff-I'd like to give a shout out to Jose and Eduardo at the front doors, they recognized us immediately from last year. They were super friendly, incredibly helpful, and inspirational to talk with. We got to spend a lot of time riding in their van and golf carts from the hotel to the front gate (3-minute walk) as we liked to hitch a public bus to venture into Tulum and Playa del Carmen a lot. Luis is the world class concert pianist you hear on the grand piano every night in the lobby/lounge area. He was sweet to share his spotlight as I am a singer and asked if I could sing. We had a blast entertaining the guests! Noelle at "Coffee and Me" was fabulous. She remembered what we special ordered from last year!!! She even trained her co-worker on our special order to make us feel at home when she was off work.Bali at the buffet grill always knew my husband wanted his omelet cooked extra-long and would joke with him. She made an extra effort to know her guests! The staff in the VIP lounge were over the top! They made our stay extra special and made us feel as if we owned the place. They put up with all our questions and special requests. Did you know you can hop resorts? They set us up to visit another Grand Oasis resort in Cancun for the day! Fabulous options!Advice (for this resort and others)This resort has two options: Lite and Sian Ka’anLite means you get all-inclusive but if you want real service you get Sian Ka’an which is basically VIP and your stay will be a 5 Star rating! Some people didn't know about the extra amenities...ASK questions! The staff is more than happy to inform you on everything! We were pesky and asked a lot of questions which in turn gave us a lot of options we didn't know we had, and we became well acquainted with their amazing staff.

A great Vacation

Beautiful spot , impressive lobby, expected room to not be ready, we arrived at noon, front lobby staff took our bags , and we went and had great lunch and some drinks. Watch that floor its slippery when wet, got a very nice pool view room with a king bed and stocked fridge. Great beach, lots of walking either way and great pools. Lots of quiet spots with no kids , but a Great swim up bar in the kids section ! Really enjoyed the food.Huge shout out to Ana who did the yoga and pilates classes when I was there, such fun and she always made sure you understood what she meant, her english was excellent ! She was so sweet and helpful and Always said Hi when she saw you elsewhere in the resort. A real asset to the resort.Try and get a late flight out, so nice to have the beach on the last morning and do lunch and a glass of wine before you leave.

Felt like a bait and switch

Paid extra for Oceanview front room, put into a room with a view of falling apart building and palm trees. The balcony was full of ants and furniture on balacony so rusted it couldn't be sat on. Front desk staff wasn't to concerned and said we should have booked 6 months prior to our trip for an full Oceanview, yet no refund on the upgrade we paid for. Our safe was free but our friends were told they had to pay and they had the same booking type as us. We were told you had to pay $50US CASH for internet which is only in Coffee Shop or Lobby and good for 5 days. I paid for the internet online with credit card and could choose 1 hour to 7 days for a better price and was able to use it ALL OVER the hotel. Had no hot water for first 3 days and then no water at all for another day. Drinks we extremely watered down and syrupy. Food was ok if you were lucky enough to get into restaurant, people would start lining up for bookings at 3 and wait for an hour to try and make a reservation. We were served raw chicken one afternoon, fortunately I hadn't swallowed the piece in my mouth yet and was able to spit it out. Felt bad for the staff as the hotel is very understaffed. Beach was beautiful and the pools were lovely. The hotel supplies bikes to ride but staff told us "there is no where to ride but up and down the driveway". We wanted to play tennis but all the balls have been lost and they only have 1 in the entire hotel. I will say though the staff at the Coffee & Me in the main hotel was GREAT! Our friends who met us there went through this same experience as us. We go on vacation every year and have never had this kind of experience.

Lite & Love

This was my first time staying at the Grand Oasis Tulum, also my first experience with all inclusive; & being out of the country for the first time! We booked at the Lite because at the time of booking it seemed that was all that was available. At first we were pretty confused because we were pretty far away from the main resort and we were under the impression that this building was a Sports Bar. We arrive at our room and we were soooo shocked to find out that not only did our room have 2 queen beds, it also had a closed off living room with a pull out couch with a kitchenette! We were a group of 3 so this was absolutely perfect. Ivan checked us in and he provided plenty of information about the resort, and calmed our ease as to how we could simply get to the main area. He continued to be really helpful and kind to me for the enter time of my stay. We were quickly falling in love with the Oasis Lite. Lite isn't even a good name for this section. There was nothing Lite about it. It was soo calm and relaxing. Often times we found ourselves with the entire pool to ourselves. It is just a short and leisurely bicycle ride down the scenic driveway. Also shout out to all the bellman who assisted carting me down via golf cart. I will never forget you guys! There are two specific employees at this resort that need a shout out because of their OUTSTANDING service. (I work in a resort myself and take fine note to such dedication & hard work) Rigobertto and Nicandro. Both these fellows work at the Lite. Nicandro sets up the pool area and cleans the lobby and is then bartending by night. I have never met a more friendly and smiling staff member anywhere in my life. This employee went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. Rigo is one of the main bartenders I saw during my trip, and after my 8 days of staying I was really sad to say goodbye because he has such a genuine character about him, and thoroughly enjoys his job. A huge thank you to these guys. Next is a shout out to Aaron from recreation/entertainment. This employee was so fun & energetic. He remembered my name the entire trip and every time I saw him he was sure to say hello and ask what I was up to. I saw him numerous times wanting to interact with all the guests to make sure everyone was having a great time. There were many other employees who also stood out to me for their Grand service and dedication to their job. The nightly entertainment was good. I was pleasantly surprised that two of the nights we stayed there was actually live entertainment right at our pool at the Lite. Those were two of the best shows I saw!!! I also really enjoyed the Tenors. They played a lot of love songs which was fitting because it was the night before Valentines day. Valentines day was just amazing! There was a entertainment staff dressed as cupid and he was so funny! They also had special activities that were themed for V-day; so everyone had a lot of fun with that. Everything so far is all 5 stars. The biggest downfall here at Grand Oasis Tulum is the food service. Ugh... It is almost comical some of the poor service we received. I had multiple meals at the buffet, and was never served a beverage & couldn't even find a cup to serve myself like a normal buffet. I had to ask many times for a cup and still was not able to get a cup. I even tried to find a bowl to drink out of. Much like a dog. It was so frustrating. There was one night that we ate at Sarape and one person received their dish, and the two others of us sat and waited... and waited... and our food never came! I am talking like 1.5 hours. So we had to go eat at the buffet. There were times when we ordered from the snack bar; and here too our food never came. Being part of the Lite has some restrictions on what restaurants you can dine at. So I am only speaking on behalf of these places. Luckily I did find 2 places to dine that I actually enjoyed; and got GREAT service & food. This would be Bites & Hippie Chic Grill. The Bites Hostess & Servers were soooo good. Sadly I cannot remember their names. But she is there like every afternoon at like 3PM wearing a black shirt. I loved their food & salad bar. Hippie Chic also had great service and food. Otherwise; this is a great place to stay. I will return.
