Our Opinion

The Grand Palladium Riviera is a good 4.5-star luxury resort. While it does offer the basic amenities of a high-end resort, there are other resorts that offer better luxuries. The buffet restaurants are far more of a superior option than the a la cartes. The rooms could use a little bit of a revamp, as there have been some reports that the bathrooms have a tendency to get a little leaky. The beach view is incredible. However, the grounds are a little rocky. This is a great resort for those who like large scale hotels. There are both shuttle and walking options in getting around the hotel. It is advised though that guests should know the layout well to avoid getting lost.

Great facilities, subpar service, okay food

We were there for a wedding last month, and boy, what an experience. We drove up to the lobby and got the luggage; seeing there was a line of suitcases, we thought we'd ask if the luggage was to be held there while we waited for our room (it was 1 pm, check-in was at 3 pm). A bellboy finally came up to us, but just as I was asking, an angry guest approached him about his car not being there, and the bellboy turned around and left me standing there. Okay, I get that angry customers freak people out, so I waited for him to finish and come back, except he didn't. He called for someone else to come take care of the angry guest, and then started taking care of other people and just coming and going while I'm there with two suitcases and two long garment bags. I give up and figure it might be quicker to ask when checking in, so I walk up to the counter (hauling everything while my BF parked the car), and a girl named Rubi tells me we can hang out at the lobby, but need to get the hotel information from someone else "over there", pointing at a desk by the counter and then someone will take my luggage. I wait for my BF to come back, and a girl comes up to me and asks if I need help. I tell her I'd like to know what to do with my luggage, and that I was told I had to get the hotel information from one of the desks there. She says she doesn't know, and doesn't know what type of information I need, but points me to the bellboys to take care of the luggage. When my BF comes back, he takes the luggage to the bellboys and gets them to put it with the others while we get the hotel information. So we line up where the desks are, and it turns out the girl who approached me before and didn't know anything about hotel information is at one of them, so we figure it's the other one, where there's already people waiting. So we wait and wait, and when it's finally our turn and ask about the hotel information, she asks if we want to get married at the hotel. "No, we're here for a wedding." "Then I don't have any information to give you." "I lined up there and the lady told me I needed to get hotel information over here." "No, that counter is the only place where guests are told about the hotel amenities." So we line up again, at the counter next to where the first girl I talked to, Rubi, is now explaining the hotel amenities to a family, which is annoying because if she CAN explain the hotel amenities, why didn't she just explain them to me the first time? But fine, we're waiting there for the people in front of us to finish. They leave and we walk up to the counter, and the guy who was taking care of them turns to the person standing next to him (not us, standing in front of him, at the counter, having just walked up after standing behind the people he was taking care of) and says something in Spanish and leaves us there, standing at a now empty counter, and goes inside a little office where we can see him sitting at a little desk, just pretending he didn't just leave two guests standing there like idiots without as much as a word. So we wait and wait and wait and finally someone comes up and asks if we're waiting for something, and by that time we've been in the lobby for two hours and it's already check-in time. She says she'll be happy to explain the hotel amenities but unfortunately our room isn't ready, so perhaps we'd like to go to one of the buffets before they close and come back to get our room key. I'm tired of typing this out and we're only two hours into the experience. Long story short, we got the room at 4 pm after three hours of wandering around the lobby with employees treating us like ghosts, when we could have gone in and hang out by the pool or at the beach if Rubi had just taken the 45 seconds it took for Sandra to tell us just that. The food was okay, but mostly forgettable. The facilities are amazing, but the service in general was unbelievable, in a bad way. The next day (the day of the wedding) our room was made at 3 pm. No wonder rooms aren't ready for guests to check in at check-in time.

"Travel Club" (timeshare) WORST mistake you could make.

This review is purely on the "Travel Club" timeshare they will try desperately to rope you into.Worst financial decision we could have made & now I want to warn others not to make the same mistake! We bought in 2010 & have never used it as we have always been able to get a better deal at comparable resorts through various online booking travel sites. Finally a deal came up through redtag.ca for Palladium making it affordable to us but the resort will not allow us to use our $12,000 membership privileges once we get there because we won't be booking directly through them. They were kind enough to offer us the same package with their booking service for only about $1000 more.... yeah, no thanks. This was our mistake but please don't let it be yours.

Our Wedding Week with 32 family/friends

AMAZING - YOU MUST GO!!! We had our wedding here two weeks ago and it was SO incredibly wonderful! The staff are all so accommodating and provided wonderful customer service! They all remembered us and our group and really made us feel special! We picked the Mayan Pearl package in bridal white and everything was so beautiful and elegant! Nidia was the resort coordinator was so helpful and reassuring that everything would be where it's supposed to be! The day was beautiful and while Nidia couldnt be there for the entire day, her colleague Grace helped out onsite, and she was fabulous!! She knew not to ask me a ton of questions or bother me with details on the day, she let me enjoy each moment and always went to the bridesmaids for questions or logistics. Thank god for Grace onsite!!! I would recommend this hotel and the wedding staff and photographers (Lillo!) every time!! The photoshop and pkgs are amazing and with the Gold package, you can get your photos printed and in a gorgeous photo book within 24hours of your wedding - AND you get to see them all and pick the ones you like best the day after the wedding!!!! How amazing is that!!!! This hotel is a world class resort with amazing entertainment at night, gorgeous beaches and pools, friendly and coomodating staff and we would definitely recommend it and would go back in the future - thank you Nidia and The Grand Palladium for making our wedding week unforgettable !!!

2nd stay

Wouldn't stay at the Riviera again to far to lobby's spent most of are holiday waiting for carts to go anywhere and no Wifi in rooms,We stayed at Katenah last year far better. We still had a fantastic holiday and will return but will book with Thomson next time so we'll stay at Katenah or Colonial. We we're a bit apprehensive about coming back to a hotel we had stayed at before and being disappointed but everything was good and the improvements we're great. All the staff are great and some remembered us from last year.Valentin Katenah lobby always had a big smile. The bar staff in the Colonial bar work so hard.Gary and all the staff at the Gran azul at lunch time were great the bands were very good to.Big thank you to Ronald In the sports bar for getting the Bristol City football game on sky for my Husband even though they lost.We enjoyed most of the restaurants are favourite la Lola .We had a bit of a scare on are last day at breakfast we ask the bell boys about being picked up with our luggage to check out and there said not a problem and booked us to be picked up at 12 (we were being picked up at 12.45 to go to the Airport)They didn't turn up we kept ringing said they were on the way so in the end we flagged a travel club cart down and told him our predicament, thank you so much to Jesus he came and got our luggage and took us to the lobby with minutes to spare ,its a shame to have that stress at the end of your holiday, when everything else was great.
