Our Opinion

The Grand Palladium Riviera is a good 4.5-star luxury resort. While it does offer the basic amenities of a high-end resort, there are other resorts that offer better luxuries. The buffet restaurants are far more of a superior option than the a la cartes. The rooms could use a little bit of a revamp, as there have been some reports that the bathrooms have a tendency to get a little leaky. The beach view is incredible. However, the grounds are a little rocky. This is a great resort for those who like large scale hotels. There are both shuttle and walking options in getting around the hotel. It is advised though that guests should know the layout well to avoid getting lost.

Overall pleased with stay, staff were the best part!

Stayed for 7 days at the Grand Palladium Riviera, and had a great time. Upgraded the room and was worth it, but would not pay extra to do it again. Although it was nice with a king size bed and pull out couch and 2 tvs, wouldn't pay the expensive extra per person again for the upgrade. The mini bar has pop, beer, water and nuts and was replenished daily. The room was clean and fresh towels and toiletries provided daily. Balcony's was also a bonus and great for the evenings. The main pool was AMAZING. There was always available spots directly around the pool, in the back if you wanted more privacy, near the pool bar/bar etc. The daily activities provided a social aspect to the day. If you didn't want to hear the activities around the pool you cold go to spots that were more seclusive. Loved staying at the Riviera because of the access to the salt water pool, filled naturally by the ocean. Definitely one of the coolest parts of the hotel. There were also, always chairs available, (and even cabanas) around the salt water pool. The beach was the same, chairs always available at any time throughout the day. The beach sand was clean. Some areas in the water you required water shoes due to the coral, but some areas you did not.The Food. The food was a hit or miss, but this was expected at a large hotel like this. Some days the meat was overcooked or the food was soggy by the time eaten. Bread was unfortunately hard, unless you caught a fresh batch. Best part of the food was dessert (exceptional), including the ice cream bar. Snack bar provided a pretty good lunch, but same problems with the meat and bread. With all that said, some days the food was fresh, perfectly cooked and no issues, hence I say the food is a hit or miss. The buffet did offer a very wide variety of food, and you could eat something different every night. If you get the chefs to make you fresh food it was delicious, and hot. A la carte food was delicious and always fresh. There were always spots available at the buffet to eat, the restaurants a la carte always had spots the day of to book. The pool bars were awesome, and the staff were exceptional. All Staff were so friendly, always had great conversation. The restaurants were the same, staff very hospitable, service was quick, and with a smile. The shows were breathtaking and a highlight of the hotel. You could tell a lot of hard work and time went into each and every show every night. The dancers were amazing and provided amazing, magical shows. There is also soo much other things to do at the hotel, throughout out the day, and you will never be bored. The grounds really are spectacular. If you are willing to do the walk, the maple grove paths to the main hotel areas are private, and provide a cool experience through the jungle to see animals, insects, and lizards of all sizes. The lagoon is beautiful and there are many areas around to stop, feed and view fish of all sizes. There are many shuttles available to transport around the hotel if needed. There is a lot of walking to get around the hotel, but it is no more than expected at a large hotel like the Grand Palladium and others.Downsides. -The BRIDGES! To access the main pool, lobby, restaurants, you have to cross at least 1 bridge over the lagoon. It is quite a few steps up and down, and at times can become quite tiring when you go back and forth often. Due to this, this the Riviera may not be the best choice for families with children in strollers or the elderly with mobility issues. I am sure there has to be a way to avoid the bridges, but this involves a long trian ride around the hotel. Check out one of the other hotel in the Grand Palladium due to this.-The Wifi signal is spotty in the rooms. The best signal is around the main pool, or in the lobby's/restaurants.Hopefully this would improve over time.-Room service ends at 2300, which is before the final show. Disappointing when you want a snack before bed, and after the show. Overall very pleased with my stay at the Grand Palladium Riveria. Would recommend it to my family and friends and plan to book another vacation here. There is plenty to keep you busy all day, and the grounds are beautiful. Rooms, pool and beach all met expectations. The staff went above and beyond to provide an experience, and were very enthusiastic. Great vacation, can't wait to visit again.

Great family resort

Stayed for 5 days with 3 kids. Room was adequate. A little dated but that's really not a big deal. Beds were a little uncomfortable. It's a very large resort with lots to see and do. Lots of walking if you choose to, which was good thing for me considering how I ate. The trams between the lobbies, and the carts to the villas were really convenient when we didn't feel like walking. One word of advice: if you are going to walk, look at the map a bit. It's really easy to take the long way. The food was fantastic. Breakfast buffet had tons of options, but I still went to the omelette station every day. The a la cartes that we tried were even better. We went to Rib place, the Japanese, and the Italian restaurants. We tried to go to the Brazilian place but it was adults only the night we tried. I guess that would be my one complaint, that it was not advertised with an adults only night or we would have just planned around it. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Each and every one that we met!Pool areas were well done with lots of loungers. Same with the beach area and the salt water pool. It's worth noting that the salt water pool tended to be a little quieter, and a little warmer. The main pools were a little on the cool side. I would definitely recommend this resort.

Very friendly

We give this place 5 stars all around. stayed 7 nights and loved every minute. There are lots of restaurants, buffets, pools, games, beach equipment and everything we could want at a resort. Rooms were very clean and good beds, the grounds are spotless and the staff are super friendly.

  • NO S :
Great resort with so much to do.

Great and HUGE! Four resorts in one. We originally booked in White Sands but was given a room in Riviera. Rooms are nice but needs a little updating. The AC was dripping water and they tried to fix it but no luck. People are amazing and very friendly. Freddy was the best. He was always available when we needed him. He really enjoys his job.Food was just OK. Mexican, the Japanese, and the Brazilian Steakhouse where way below average. Buffet was good. BF in the buffet was very good and lot of options.Activities and nightly entertainments are very good and you can never feel board.

Second visit-- the good and bad

Last time we were in the Kantenah section. This time we were in Riviera-- do not stay in Riviera if you have mobility issues because in order to reach the lobby, or buffet restaurants, you will have to climb over a wooden bridge with uneven steps. This can become tiresome and difficult after a while. In an attempt to get. More money, thisresorthas devised a " travel. Club" which means that non travel club or non- VIP visitors in Mayan Suites, are relegated to second class citizenship-- this is the thing that we wanted to avoid, and which we know other resorts do too( Barcelo Mayacomes to mind) .so this meant that getting reservations for dinner at a la carterestaurants were very difficult, and you were forced to take a 5:30 PMor a9:00 PM reservation. In an attempt to avoid second class citizenship, and get a reservation for dinner at a prime time, I had to deal with Guest Servicesone morning, trying to make a reservation at an a la carte restaurant, when the man at the next desk heardofour plight and appeared to commiserate. He even ran after me to tell me that he sympathized with my situation, and insisted that he " make it right" by offering me and my family a breakfast at "El Jardin" the restaurant only forVIP guests. We sent one of our party to get the others at the buffetsothat we could go to this special restaurantforbreakfast. The man then insisted on giving us a spa day. This started to sound too good to be true, and after I signed a paper accepting these goodies, it became clear to us that this offer of compensation for poor past treatment was in fact a pitch to listen to their sales pitch for their Travel Club-- Life is too short to sell my soul for a breakfast and time at a spa, so we declined Silver's offer, and left for the common man'sbuffet breakfast restaurant. Other than this negative experience, we enjoyed our time there. It is amazingly beautiful-- nature abounds-- we saw the most incredible birds, fish, wildlife like raccoons and raccoon- like animals. There are areas where flamingoes abound, and a walk through the covered paths is serene and beautiful. The saltwater pool is fabulous, but the ladders need to be cleaned from slime because they are treacherously slippery! We saw the staging for some weddings while we were there, and this was interesting too. The rooms in Riviera could use some refreshing- new bed spreads, frames around bathroom mirrors, better lighting-- but nothing drastic. It would be helpful if the resort banned smoking at the pools and beach for environmental and health reasons. All in all we enjoyed our time here, and think most people would agree.
