Our Opinion

The Grand Palladium Riviera is a good 4.5-star luxury resort. While it does offer the basic amenities of a high-end resort, there are other resorts that offer better luxuries. The buffet restaurants are far more of a superior option than the a la cartes. The rooms could use a little bit of a revamp, as there have been some reports that the bathrooms have a tendency to get a little leaky. The beach view is incredible. However, the grounds are a little rocky. This is a great resort for those who like large scale hotels. There are both shuttle and walking options in getting around the hotel. It is advised though that guests should know the layout well to avoid getting lost.

Located in the Palladium Resort complex, the Grand Palladium Riviera shares its facilities with the Grand Palladium Colonial, Kantenah and White Sand resorts and faces a kilometre of private beach. Respecting the flora and fauna of the area, this resort was built with all buildings blending into the natural surroundings. Nestled in a mangrove forest facing the Caribbean sea of the Mayan Riviera, Grand Palladium Riviera Resort and Spa offers all-suite accommodations in nine peaceful villas, including Suites suitable for up to five guests.

Location: Located on Kantenah Beach, 25 minutes from Playa del Carmen & 80 minutes from the airport.

  • Beautiful beachfront location
  • A number of pools including large main pool, natural saltwater pool and an adults only pool
  • Large resort complex with many dining options
  • Extensive Spa facilities with a private pool and hydrotherapy area
  • Lots of family activities with Kid's and Teen's clubs and a water park
  • Awarded TripAdvisor's Certificate of Excellence and Travelife Gold for sustainability in tourism

Not as impressive as its reviews nor the website

We've stayed at many 5 star spa resorts in Bali, Cabo San Lucas, Phuket, Japan, Greece, Costa Rica, Villamora Portugal...etc.But this has to be the worst and expected if you pay attention to the reviews and website information.FIRST: the staff is extremely polite and welcoming, helpful and the rooms are clean , the whole place is very clean and friendly. The specialty night alcohol theme are top premium liquor. Tequila night its Don Julio, Gin night is Hendricks and they go all out to dress the drinks up. Great alcohol experience. The food is average, the best is the buffet, seriously, we ate at 4 of the a la carte restaurants: Italian, Mexican, Brazilian, steaks/ribs...and each time same disappointment. The meat was full of tendons and fat, half was uneatable, the dessert and cream sauces tasted like crisco...awful. Mexican you could do better at the buffet. The only good dish a la carte was the veal at the Italian restaurant. Brazilian the experience for those who sub par but well done anyhow. They rush through the meat serving, and from the moment you sit down to in between each meat serving you are asked over and over again to fill up on salade, potatoes, rice or the cheaper meats.... once you go through one round of each meat serving, they present you the dessert-but wait this is Brazilian all you can eat meat...when questioned the waiter explains its one round and if you want more you have to tell him which one of all the meats you want to repeat again before dessert. Had I not asked they get away with one round of meats...The rooms are ok, everything I mean everything over looks the mangrove tree jungle and the only rooms with a breeze are the ones facing the ocean with no view. 3rd floor is the best, quiet no one above. And Villa 66,67,68 are the quietest. Do not be fooled to thinking that distance is a marathon walk. Seriously this is a resort, you walk from place to place, not a hotel were everything is steps from the elevator. It takes 6 mins to walk the broadwalk to the main lobby where the buffet is. And another 5 min walk to other restaurants. For those with tired feet use the golf cart transport. They run often but its a wait, no different then at home or at a hotel. Its free and you wait, but it comes eventually 5-15min wait. They have evening shows and music at night which is great. In room food service is free but the worst food, though you cannot take out from the buffet, its the next best when you crave a late night snack in your room. Warning closes at 11pm. So think you may be hungry at 11:30pm order in earlier... The beach is typical problem of seaweed everywhere, and the majority of the resort is rocky beach. Only in front of one of the resorts 4 hotels is a stretch of beach that is clear of seaweed and packed with everyone. NO THANK YOU. Now if you like heavily chlorinated pools, they are really nice and big, great kids area, no thank you. I came to Mexico for the beach and this is not the place to do that. But if your here, well the next best option would be the Ocean pool, its literally the best quiet and not crowded place with a real ocean pool that sit on the ocean floor touching the shores rocks and the pool is filled naturally by the ocean tides and waves. yes it has seaweed too, but very little and controlled. You do swim with the fish too....All around the resort you find a water taxi yes they have a manmade mote with water, and the broadwalk through the mangrove has BIG stair bridges, so if you have mobility issues take the golf cart. Check out was a nightmare....We waited 1.5 hours for them to pick up our luggage, they wanted us to leave it at the door or in the room and trust them-NO WAY. Finally they came, but I could of spent that time by the ocean pool relaxing...No real connivence stores, and everything is a bus ride away of 45 minutes. The tours are a big rip off. Our group had a snorkle tour that was discounted, not really, a sales pitch came out to $150 CDN, you spent the whole day to the place, back and an 2 hours is more then enough to see the fish snorkeling. Be warned you have to buy their non-chemical suntan lotion that protects the fish $16. And anything else you want to do you pay extra. The place is packed with giant bus loads of people...every hotel tour is here !!!! Not fun.Best part, TV lots of channels, the booze good and great service from staff at buffet, restaurants, front desk is nice but just ok. When you arrive you are greeted with lots of attention, and a drink, but its not personable, you are a number and everything has been set up in mass production. You are given a long 30 minute speech about all the place and options. And told to be at lobby next day 9am for departure briefing...though you just arrived- CRAZY, why am I wasting my precious vacation time to listen to departure info. Simple like every other place, you make a call to have your luggage picked up and check out at noon. Your tour has transport arranged or if you came on your own then arrange transport. Voila departure info. Actually the departure meeting is really a sales pitch for tours - not NICE !!!I/ WE survived the week, and vowed never to do this again, not for anyone, not for any reason.BEST PART; The weather was perfect 32c every day, sunny with much relief clouds in the afternoon. BE CAREFUL the SUN DOES BURN BURN BURN very get second degree even on cloudy days, in 2 hours you are red.I am sure many people like this type of resort as for me reminded me of Disney resorts...all fake nothing REALLY Mexican and all adapted for the Americans....but very nice staff. Thanks for that...ROOM Issues: floor never really cleaned, each day something was not replaced, the sheets came off the bed cause they are not big enough to tuck under the mattress. The AC is the worst. When it works you freeze, use the fan and AC to be comfortable but you wake up with a big headache and stuffy nose from the dampness. We were in Villa 64 top floor facing the mangroves. Quiet, but no breeze from the balcony and you are facing the walkway ...not really private plus its hot on the balcony even at night. Fridge in room leaked everyday....barely stayed cold. The free DAILY mini bar service was a pain, they would not replace the missing drinks the next day but only out of 7 days was it replenished 3 days and if I asked room service to send me a soda they could not only food no drinks. I had to go all the way to the buffet to get a drink that was not water. Although i paid $1500 per person all inclusive with air, this hotel is not worth it, I would prefer to pay more and pay for my own food and have an ocean view room with a balcony breeze. One more thing, if you think this a luxury dress up place, forget it. Everyone is in shorts and beach wear, flip flops at the buffet restaurants. You can wear shorts and summer dress, skirt for the a la carte, but nothing fancy is needed anywhere at this place.

Great for families! Love it here!

This is our 2nd time at the Grand Palladium in Riviera Maya and we love it. I recommend this place for anyone traveling with a family. Or even with friends. This place has truly everything needed for an enjoyable and great vacation. - The breakfast buffet was good but I there are not many options for food. If u are looking for a healthy breakfast option, there are more limitations. They have several breads, fruits, and juices and other stuff. - The lunch and dinner buffets were my personal favorite. There were sections divided up into Italian, Mexican, and steakhouse type. My favorite was the mexican section of the buffet. The desserts at the buffets were also yummy and there were several dessert variations. - The A La Carte restaurants were also very good but I found to like the buffets more. The japanese restaurant was hibachi style but you can also be seated regularly without the hibachi. Both hibachi and regular seats were very delicious and the food type varied. The Mexican and Brazilian were also very delicious. (especially the salad buffet appetizers). Thai, Italian, Fish and rice and Italian were also very good and the service is wonderful. The waiters and everyone else working at the restaurants were kind and helpful. - The have several bars available throughout the resort so you won't get thirsty. - The beach is beautiful and relaxing. The beach is huge and ranges from rocky areas, to deeper areas good for snorkeling, and the clear shallow areas where you'll find most people. The sand is white and soft. The water feels cool and refreshing, which is wonderful especially with the heat there. You can occasionally see some small fish around too. - The pools were amazing! They were large and didn't not get overcrowded often. There were lounge chairs in the pool which are good if you are looking for a tan. There is a swim up bar at the bigger main pools. And the water isn't too deep nor too shallow. - The salt water pool was also very nice. It is a great place for peace and quiet. The pool is shallow and rocky at the bottom but feels relaxing. You may even see some cool fish swimming in the pool!! - They have a kids pool area with mimi water slides...- The rooms are clean and a little old liking but are comfy. They may be quite small especially for a large group so when making reservations, I would ask for a room that fits your party. Also finding outlets in the room to charge electronics is kinda tough. We had to charge our electronics in the bathroom. - They have a mini club and junior club for the kids which keeps the kids entertained for the day/night. - The staff is great. Kind and loving people. They are always willing to help and go out of their way to bring you a drink or give you a ride. The people there truly live their job. They live getting to know you and talking with you. - The resort is large. Lots of walking. Personally, I do not mind walking but after an entire day out walking the only thing you want to do is sleep. There are trains that stop at each lobby every 15-20 minutes or so but if you need a ride asap, the workers at the lobby will surely give you a ride. - We love seeing the wildlife! The iguanas, Crocodiles, Coatin, Racoins etc. were cute and fun to see. - It rains for a few minutes each day so do not be alarmed if the day starts out rainy because 30 minutes later the sun is out a brutal. - Night life is great. There is live music at the lobbys, night shows (One early and one later at night), there are even some parties on occasion with lots of music and dancing. - They have many fun activities at the beach and pool during the day. - We highly recommend the travel club. You get exactly what you pay for! You get one free excursion which is always a good idea because there is lots to see in the Riviera! You may even meet some cool people during your excursion! The travel club also allows the members the access to the travel club lounge. The lunge allows each member to have their own lounge chair and access to an air conditioned bar and lounge with computers. - Room service takes quite long- The spa is incredible but it's only for 18+ ages - Expect to get lots of bug bites, it is the tropics, but mosquitoes only come at night most of the time. All in all, we love the Grand Palladium and hope to return soon!

More then we expected!

There are so many great qualities to be said about this resort. We booked this trip through Cheap and were not sure what to expect. As soon as we arrived at the resort we were surprised to see that resort was a lot bigger then we expected. From the moment we checked-in, the service from the staff was wonderful, and everyone was extremely kind. The buffet had many options, and the restaurants food and service from the wait staff was excellent! A big shout out to (Buenoaventura) at the Italian restaurant for his excellent waiter service, and to the Manger! There were so many great employees here, and would I wish I could remember all there names to give them the recognition they deserve. I am definitely looking forward to going back to this resort in the Spring of 2018 and will bringing my family. Wonderful job Grand Palladium and Thanks for your wonderful service. ~Happy Customer

Pleasant yet not spectacular

I have some reservations about this resort and will outline below some of the things I liked and disliked below.Liked: Very pleasant service from everyone we encountered. Entertainment seemed vibrant, although I didn't go to the shows, but in passing, looked well attended and good for resort entertainment. The salt water pool was an unusual and welcome scene from the pools and beach, the atmosphere, bar and view good although I understand that it's now closed for renovations and will be exclusively for the use of The Royal patrons. Each night my son enjoyed playing organised soccer on the floodlit pitch with music.Disliked:The beach, the hype of a fabulous beach didn't really ring true. Very narrow and sun loungers close together. The far end at Kantenah was spacious and pretty with palms, space and shade, however, the area near the Colonial was jam-packed and not at all classy, hard packed sand and used cups and plates. The area at Rivera end also blighted with hard packed sand, rocky and seaweed, not spacious. The beach is separated from the resort by the mangroves so walking along the sea front is not possible which is something I enjoy in the evening. Not sure if I would walk along the beach at night. The pools are OK, personally, I think they look dated with white tile. Lots of seating available, the staff who bring the drinks are very sweet. The pool side music is a loud playlist of American pop, very little Mexican music which is a shame. Several days there were no fresh beach towels available. The sea is not visible from the pools. The resort is huge and there are carts which can take you from place to place. Walking isn't hugely enjoyable as the carts zoom along the roads and the bridges one needs to use are steep and hard to see in the dark, despite the cheap-looking rope lights wind beneath the steps. Ladies on heels and people with strollers take note. Our room whilst spacious was dated with thin worn bedding. No wow factor. Rather dull in fact.Food was typical for a resort, again nothing to write home about, but I don't go to these places for exquisite cuisine, just to chill on a nice beach. That said this was pretty mediocre. Breakfast buffet is nice enough but the rest unspectacular. The no reservations policy works some times and each night one restaurant has a no child policy (which includes teenagers). In the restaurants the dress code is widely disregarded by men and women, again a shame. I don't think we will be returning.

Not what we expected

Pros:-nice big resort, lots to do-ribs and more food was good-brazilian steak house had good food-salt water pool was pretty cool-drinks were good-lots of wildlife (some may view as a con, but we enjoyed them) Cons:-one word, mosquitoes (had multiple bugs bands on everyday, and sprayed thoroughly with bug spray. I came back with 65 bug bites, I counted them) -lots of walking (prepare to have blisters on your feet) -most of the food was pretty bland, otherwise noted above-didn't have very good service (other vacationers were served twice before we got any recognition despite our tips)-Little tiny bugs all over our room.-carts don't pick you up as advertised.-room service can take an hour and a half to serve-towel cards - didn't enjoy this-rooms are very run downOverall, we would have had a more enjoyable vacation had there not have been so many bugs in our room and mosquitoes around the resort. They were terrible. I liked the jungle atmosphere, but I would gladly pick something different due to mosquitoes. The service also could have been a lot better. And the hotel in general was pretty run down. Next time I will chose to stay somewhere else.
