Our Opinion

The Grand Riviera Princess is a relatively good resort situated in the heart of the Riviera Maya Strip. The grounds are immaculate and well-maintained. The staff of the resort are also incredibly helpful and friendly. The check-in and check-out process goes by a bit quicker than most other resorts. The food options are varied, however booking for a la carte restaurants can be a bit of a process. Overall, it's still a great resort for those looking to relax in the heart of the Riviera Maya.

Overview

This large all-suites resort offers something for the entire family from its incredible beach to eight pools to extensive dining options and spacious accommodations - the ideal family getaway. Guests staying at the Grand Riviera Princess have full access to the neighboring Grand Sunset Princess all facilities are shared between the two properties with the exception of the Platinum Club sections.

Location: 50 minutes from Cancun airport, 10 minutes to Playa del Carmen, situated in the heart of the Riviera Maya.

Fantastic Vacation at The Grand Riviera Princess

My partner and I stayed at The Grand Riviera Princess May 10 - May 17, and I can honestly say it was the best vacation we have ever taken. We travel to The Riviera Maya often and have stayed at many 5* resorts, but the Riviera Princess definitely tops our list and has become our favorite. Of course many features of the resort are very similar to all the others we've visited, but the two main features that put the Princess on top were (1) the customer service, and (2) the food. Both were exceptional.First, the customer service. Wow - from the moment we were at the reception desk checking in, to the moment we checked out, everyone was fantastic. Sorry I can't remember the names of the people on the front desk, but everyone went over and above to provide great service. Other mentions, and a thank you, would have to go our housekeeper Patricia - she also went over and above, giving us towel art daily, and making sure we had everything we needed in our fridge and in our room. The staff in the buffets and restaurants were also wonderful at their jobs. A special mention to Russell Ventura, our server at The Chill Out restaurant. He was fantastic. It was my partner's birthday dinner, but I only mentioned this while we were ordering dinner. Russell totally exceeded my expectations bringing out a special birthday dessert. I wish I had a video of it, but it was a total surprise! Thank you so much Russell - you are amazing. Another shout out has to go to our server Ismael on The Chill Out Beach. What a wonderful employee he is too. He totally looked after us whenever we were on the Chill Out Beach, and provided so much information too. One day when Ismael was working around the pool area, he recognized us, came over to say hi, and took our drink order. A great employee for sure! The Food was fantastic in each venue we tried, including the regular Riviera and Sunset buffets (both in the lobby and at the two grills near the beach). As mentioned, we ate at The Chill Out and it was over the top amazing! We also tried Miso, Le Hacienda, Le Fleur and La Vaqueri - all delicious, but Le Fleur and La Vaqueri were definitely my favorite. The staff in each was exceptional - I wish I had taken names to give them kudos. Next time, I will for sure.We loved the grounds and the lobby - just breath-taking! The view from the top of the stairs in the lobby is simply beautiful. Lots of pools to choose from, depending on your preference. We usually enjoyed the quieter pools as we are a little older, and really didn't want to be at the main activity pool. We did enjoy the music from the main pool though, and enjoyed watching the activities when we walked by. There really is something for everyone. We booked into a "Deluxe Junior Suite" and it was a beautiful suite, and perfect for two. We had 2 beds, fantastic bathroom with soaker jacuzzi tub, couch with coffee table and 2 chairs with another table. Tons of room for 2 or 3 guests. The balcony was more like a terrace - very deep and great to sit and enjoy coffee in the morning. Most balconies we have experienced in the past were the regular width, and too hot to sit when the sun was beating down. This balcony was deep enough that there was always some shade. Our thanks to everyone who made our vacation special and gave us so many wonderful memories. We were treated like a million dollars everywhere we went, and that makes all the difference. This is honestly the only resort we have been to, that there isn't a huge difference in the level of service provided between the categories of bookings. We were never made feel we were less important than the "platinum" guests - I really liked that a lot. Other resorts we've visited really treat their platinum/elite/members a lot better than regular guests. I never felt this at The Princess - Thank you for making us feel special all week. I think our long search for our "Go To" resort has been found, and we will be back next vacation - maybe a swim out room next time ;)

Family vacation

We have been coming to Mexico for the past 8 years. Different resort each time, well that will end next year. We loved this place. My only regret was the shuttle service. I think they should have 2 or 3 carts to cut the wait time down to under 15 minutes. Other than that, can't wait to see you next year with the rest of our family!!!!

Very Good but nothing special

The Resort is very large and does everything an all inclusive should provide for the cost of the package but due to the size of the property you do not get that feeling that the staff really care about your experience. They do their jobs well and adhere to what appears to be what is expected. We have stayed at smaller resorts and you get to see the same faces each day and a relationship seems to form more naturally which results in you feeling that they really care about you and your experience. We paid the extra for Platinum service which did come with some perks but not sure the value was equal to the cost. We received bar service in the designated beach area but the service was sometimes slow and in some cases the waiter did not even return with our order. And yes we did tip the waiter! If you are looking for a special all-inclusive vacation this resort is average for the amenities and service although the grounds are beautiful. There is a wide variety of people at the resort from families to couples and young adults, many of which are there for weddings.

What can I say other than fabulous!

My husband and I have just got back from 2 weeks in this fabulous resort. This was our first time to Mexico and thanks to this hotel we will be back! Our room was in block 7 and this was a perfect location; right in the centre of the resort. Yes it's a large resort but the grounds are just stunning and the walk is a pleasure. Our walks were always interrupted by the cute coatis, cats, iguanas and monkeys! The room (junior deluxe suite) was huge and nicely presented with everything you need. We had a lovely view over one of the quieter pools and stunning grounds. The bathroom was amazing and the a/c was well needed after a hot day at the pool. The bed was huge and so comfortable. The housekeeping staff made a brilliant effort every day and decorated the room with flowers and towel animals! The mini bar was also stocked up daily. The staff in this resort cannot do enough and are so happy and helpful. They really made the stay special. We have to mention in particular Wilbert Paz who worked around the main pool in the day and the Plaza in the evenings as well as Gabriel who was in the Snack Riviera during the day and Plaza at night. Both stood out as excellent, chatty, friendly and so happy! Also a special thank you to concierge Carlos who couldnt have been more helpful. They are a credit to the resort. Having said that I have never been anywhere where the staff work so hard and they all deserve a special thanks. The beach and the pools are stunning and the entertainment around the pools brilliant. The beach foam party was the best! If you want peace and quiet or a bit of liveliness then you have the option here. Pool bars are excellent and measures are very generous as they are at all the bars around the place..too generous some times!!! All premium brands served. A lot of reviews on here say the staff favour those who tip. I found this to be absolute nonsense. From my observation they serve everyone equally and do not expect tips. It is always appreciated to tip and we tipped as appropriate. The tips appear to be shared out equally but not tipping does not affect service. The lobby bars are a lovely place to spend a quiet evening in beautiful surrounds and there are wicker sofa beds and chairs dotted around in secluded places for a relaxing evening under the stars.Food is plentiful and excellent. There is always something for everyone. A'la carte restaurants are easy to book for and are great especially the Italian and steakhouse. Buffets are excellent and offer a wide range of foods. The ice cream parlour and their banana splits are not to be missed and the sports bar was excellent. The shops are handy but are very very expensive. The shuttle to Playa del Carmen is handy and reasonable and I recommend going into town for any bits you need as well as souvenirs. Evening entertainment is brilliant and a lot of work goes into the shows. The live bands were great and get everyone up dancing. We were worried before we arrived regarding the reviews on here about needing to upgrade to platinum. From our experience there is absolutely no need and we really can't see that it offers anything else you would need..I would totally recommend saving your money and going out on some nice trips instead. This resort caters for all ages and everyone from toddlers to retired couples appeared to have a brilliant time.We had a wonderful holiday with wonderful weather in a wonderful place and we were so sad to leave. We will definitely be back! Can't recommend this place highly enough and believe that anyone that goes will have a brilliant time..we certainly did!!

Best Service I Ever Had (THANK YOU MOLY!)

I went to Princess for 6 Nights and was upgraded to Platinum free of charge when i arrived. The Resort is Modern and BEAUTIFUL. But most of all my favorite part of my trip is the dedicated service i received from our concierge Mariana Amado (Moly). My boyfriend coordinated with her to surprise me with a decorated room on my birthday and delivering us a cake. Some of the items she used to decorate weren't available from the hotel and she brought it in personally on her way to work in the morning. She went above and beyond, I'm so grateful to have had her help us.
