Our Opinion

The Grand Riviera Princess is a relatively good resort situated in the heart of the Riviera Maya Strip. The grounds are immaculate and well-maintained. The staff of the resort are also incredibly helpful and friendly. The check-in and check-out process goes by a bit quicker than most other resorts. The food options are varied, however booking for a la carte restaurants can be a bit of a process. Overall, it's still a great resort for those looking to relax in the heart of the Riviera Maya.

Family getaway

The resort was well maintained. Very large so you can move around without bumping into anyone. The Food was mediocre at best. I was very disappointing in the quality of food. The Hibachi is the best restaurant there. The staff was EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and spacious.

Very nice overall!!

We stayed here in Feb 2017 for 9 days. We normally stay on Cozumel but this was our first experience staying in Riv Maya area. It's a very nice place overall. Rooms are huge in comparison to some I've stayed. Nice couch and table beside bed which gives more room feel. Balcony nice. Beds are all hard in Mexico but this was probably best ones we've had. Our expectations were set really so we didn't find issue with them. Multiple swim up bars which we love. There's kind of a party pool one as we call it. It's loud with music which some people enjoy. We are in early 40's so we went to the next one down which was quieter, but still great. The buffets, are buffets. Not terrible but again our expectations were set so didn't expect too much out of them. There are many restaurants you can make reservations at, but make sure you go at like 2pm when they open up the next set of days or they go quick!!! We ate at the Teppan one, pretty entertaining!! Food was good, nothing extravagant but good overall! We also at the steakhouse one. We usually don't expect much in Mexico in the steak business, so it was just ok. We also read many reviews about the Chill Out area. We chose to eat there like the second day and pay for that meal, since then you can use their beach club the rest of your trip!! Well worth it!!! Now, at this restaurant the steak was pretty good! I had a HUGE porterhouse and my wife had the HUGE lobster. We paid about $65 US for both. No issues there. One tip-- don't order any appetizers because they don't mention this, but they bring out a few appetizers samplers before the meal which was just fine. Then we returned many days to drink free at the their beach club. It's NOT overcrowded at all and very nice to lay in the loungers on the beach and not have to fight people at all! Invest in that meal early, and use the beach club all week! Normally you have to pay to drink there per day if you don't eat there. This resort is gigantic!! If you walk from the lobby to the beach, it's every bit of 10-15 min walk. The grounds are great so we didn't have issue with the walks. The swim up rooms look awesome but they were sold out when we went. The beach is great as well. It can be rocky from the tide but if you walk out to the beach, and go right, about 2 buildings down you will see many people in the water all of the sudden. That stretch of beach is pure sand in the water and is great to walk in without pain to the feet!! If you have water shoes, you're good either way but we didn't. That area a little ways down was awesome! Minor detail as well, the shower water pressure is awesome too! We've stayed at many places where the pressure is awful, or there is no hot water. Here, no issue with anything. Pressure is great and the temp is great!! Also, the pool water is awesome too!! Some places it's FREEZING. Once you jump in the temp is awesome at this resort. Takes like 5 secs to get used to and then its very pleasant and refreshing!!This resort is a bit away from Playa though. That's the only thing I didn't care for. The taxi ride is about $18-20 US each way into and back from town. Has nothing to do with the resort itself. But, if you are wanting to go to Playa for nightlife or anything pretty regularly, be prepared, that's all. If you get pesos, it will work out to be a bit cheaper each way. Not too much though. Also, I read many people complain about the coaties roaming around the property. They are everywhere. I had no issue with them at all. They're fun to look at and observe. They don't hound you or anything. They just looking for snacks like the rest of us. Overall we really liked this resort!! If I went back, I would do the swim up room. Looks pretty cool. The tile in the pools does show some wear and tear, but didn't bother me at all. I see people complain about that too. Whatever. Didn't bother us. This trip we just stayed in the basic junior suite. Most basic room can get, and thought it was very accommodating!! Saw no need to upgrade just for a jet tub or anything. If you're worried about the basic room, don't! It's just fine. Plenty of room in it! If you are searching for big views, may need to upgrade to something else. If not, don't worry about it!

A bit of everything

We travelled to the Grand Riviera Princess in early December, 2016. We booked a swim up suite, which I found to be well worth the upgrade. We are beach people, but it was nice at the end of a long hot day to walk outside of your room and go for a dip without having to put your shoes on. Plus, there was bartender service right there. I found the resort to be beautiful, and clean with something for everyone. The food was fantastic, the grounds were immaculate, the pools were sprawling, the service was outstanding, the beach was stunning, the evening shows were quite entertaining... there was even a family section with a childrens (small) waterpark and ice cream parlour, decorated in 50's decor. There were shops on site selling everything from trinket souvenirs, to high end jewelry. There was a spa (I didn't use it, but it looked luxurious from the outside) a well equipped gym, a spots bar with pool tables and snacks (such as nachos and sandwiches)There are lots of critters around the resort, which we found charming - the resort is recognized as a sanctuary for them. They didn't bother us at all and we enjoyed watching them. Overall, I found this resort top notch. When I read that this resort was listed at 75 out of 212 hotels I couldn't even begin to imagine how spectacular the #1 hotel must be, because this one was phenomenal!

Awesome time at the Grand Sunset Princess

We had a great time at this resort. Upgrading to platinum was definitely worth it. Our room had an awesome view of the ocean. The chill out restaurant was well worth the extra dollars particularly if you like lobster. These were the biggest lobster tails we have had. The sports bar was fantastic- great paninis. Liliana was awesome in the lobby bar. She always made us feel special and we enjoyed talking to her daily. I would definitely recommend this resort. Great service, great booze, great food, leads to one awesome time. Looking forward to returning.
