Our Opinion

The Grand Riviera Princess is a relatively good resort situated in the heart of the Riviera Maya Strip. The grounds are immaculate and well-maintained. The staff of the resort are also incredibly helpful and friendly. The check-in and check-out process goes by a bit quicker than most other resorts. The food options are varied, however booking for a la carte restaurants can be a bit of a process. Overall, it's still a great resort for those looking to relax in the heart of the Riviera Maya.

Overview

This large all-suites resort offers something for the entire family from its incredible beach to eight pools to extensive dining options and spacious accommodations - the ideal family getaway. Guests staying at the Grand Riviera Princess have full access to the neighboring Grand Sunset Princess all facilities are shared between the two properties with the exception of the Platinum Club sections.

Location: 50 minutes from Cancun airport, 10 minutes to Playa del Carmen, situated in the heart of the Riviera Maya.

Apart from one or two things a excellent holiday

Spent 2weeks there in June for a wedding. The grounds are beautiful, staff couldn't do enough for you and rooms were big and had everything you need. Had a couple of problems tho. One night from the buffet I picked pork and it was raw, so when contacting the staff straight away management came and were apologetic asking me to fill a report out so they could act on it and make sure mistake never happened again. As I sat there the head chef came out and said it was steak and that I was basically lying which I found this very insulting as the signs said pork, me and my partner had eaten it before we found the raw piece and know the difference. The second problem was on the day of the wedding on the beach it rained so was moved inside and the hotel did a fantastic job with that but as the party ended the door were locked and some belongings were left inside. The next morning the belongings were found left outside in the lobby. luckily enough nothing wasn't stolen. Apart from those hitches it would have been excellent holiday.

An Amazing Hotel, a Perfect Honeymoon

The hotel is about 40 minutes from the airport where we were warmly greeted with a smile and a glass of champagne, actually I had two! It was our honeymoon after all! We were given our room key and the bell boy brought our luggage to our room. The first room we had was the deluxe junior suite. The room had a balcony over looking a pool. We had a TV with seating area, a king size bed, his and hers sink, jacuzzi bath and a wardrobe with a safe (free to use). The room also had a mini fridge with beers water and soft drinks (again free). This room was nice enough but we decided on upgrading to the Laguna Villas as we had heard such nice things about them. The next day (needed some rest after travelling from England) we spoke to Pepe at the Riviera lobby (the hotel has two lobbies, Riviera and Sunset) who gave us an amazing deal. We was going to upgrade for our 2nd week (we booked for 14 nights) but we managed to get the rest of our stay in the Villa. Thank you Pepe!We travelled with Thomson and had booked our excursions before we got there so as Pepe upgraded our room we had to rush to get to the coach as we had a boat trip to get to. When we got back there was some small confusion with our luggage as Pepe had finished for the day but they soon located it (safe in our old room) and got to our Villa. If I can recommend one thing at this resort is to upgrade to the Laguna Villa. We thought our first room was nice but it was nothing compared to our new room. We was on the ground floor and our balcony was level with a small pond which looked amazing, had a large sofa bed on the balcony with separate table and chairs. The room had a mini fridge (free) couch, chair and table infront of a TV, king size bed with a jacuzzi bath behind it, walk in wardrobe with safe (free), separate toilet and an outside shower with no roof (great views having a shower) and his and hers sink on opposite side of the room. The A/C was a god send as it is not only warm in Mexico but the humidity is ridiculous. You also get faster Wi-Fi in the villa which came in handy. As if the room wasn't enough we had exclusive access to a private pool with its own bar (Bar Relax) and our own Concierge (Molly). The staff at this pool were the best I have ever seen. Molly can do literally anything for you. She can speak English very well so its not difficult if you need to ask her anything. She will find you and welcome you and explain all the extra amenities you get with the villas. I have attached an A4 which has everything on there, including free massages, pillow menu DVDs to name a few. There are Havanas (bed with thatch roof) all round the pool which you book 24 hours in advance (we never had a problem getting one). After you start to relax at the pool you will meet Margarita who is the waitress at the pool. She is amazing. She knew our names by the next day and what we liked to drink. She always had a smile on her face and was happy to bring your drinks to you whether you was chilling in the Havana or swimming in the pool. If you were feeling extra thirsty (it is all free after all) you can walk up to the bar where you will be greeted by Pedro or Hector. They also always had a smile on their face and where happy to make you anything you wanted whilst having a friendly chat. They also knew our names rather quickly and made amazing drinks. A word of warning, Pedro likes to get people drunk so his measures are decent. The pool is a chill out pool but there are other public pools in the resort if you want some loud music or want to party. As well as a private pool you get a private section of the beach where there is another Concierge and waitress who are more than happy to help.We already knew we had to book the Al a Carte restaurants thanks to our reps so we did that on our first day and had no trouble booking in what we wanted. As you have probably already seen the food can be hit and miss so if you don't like something theres always something else (food at the 24 hour sports bar or room service; room service is free for people staying in the villas, otherwise you have to pay. The room service food is amazing). The teppanyaki/hibachi at the Oriental and Mexican are the best restaurants at the resort, (I heard the fish one is good too but didn't book there) they put on a good show at the teppanyaki/hibachi and the food is great. Buffet food is never going to be outstanding so don't expect it to be. We ate there a couple of times and found food we liked. As some people have mentioned before, there is another bar and restaurant on site which you have to pay for which is called Chill Out. The food there is good and if you are in the Villa, you can eat your breakfast there for free. I always had an omelette which you pick your ingredients and they make it fresh. They also had freshly squeezed orange juice which was a nice refreshing drink in the morning as you look out to the beach and enjoy your breakfast. Another recommendation I would make is to ask your Concierge to book a restaurant called Alux. It is about 15 minutes away (get a taxi from the lobby) and it is incredible. It is inside a cave and it looks stunning. The food there was amazing and so were the staff. Afterwards you are welcome to explore the cave (it isn't too big) and take pictures.I understand people are a bit cautious with travelling to Mexico but we felt safe 100% of the time, even when we went to 5th Ave, (a 2 mile strip in town with all the tourist shops to buy your crap to take home) we felt absolutely fine. Merchants will ask you to come visit their shop and buy said crap but if you don't want to simply say, no thank you, and they stop. Nothing like our trip to Turkey where they literally drag you to their shops. There is plenty to do in Mexico whether you fancy a trip out or some adventure, there is something for everyone. We took Mexican pesos but I won't bother next time as everywhere takes American dollars, its easier to know where you are up to and everywhere seems to prefer dollars anyway. The hotel is outstanding and its staff are out of this world. We can not wait to go back. Thank you for being so welcoming.

Beautiful hotel

Everything was very good except for the liquer. The hotel and the grounds were beautiful.Staff was friendly and helpful. The shows were entertaining .The beach was good but would have preferred a finer sand beach, less rock/sea shells.
