Our Opinion

A fantastic 5-star resort that is well-known for its outstanding and attentive guest services. Great a la carte and buffet items available. Depending on when you stay, the resort does have a tendency to be a bit quieter, making it perfect for adults and couples.

Another Visit!

It has been a few years since we visited the Grand, and thought we were due to return. All arrangements were made with the help and support of Nikki from Beach Bums Vacations. She was fantastic especially finding alternative arrangements if the tropical storm prevented us from arriving on time. Our children have vacationed there since our visit, and even became engaged there last year so we were excited to return. Our hopes were high! We arrived in the middle of Tropical Storm Franklin, and were a bit concerned with the weather for the week. Our fears did not come to fruition as we enjoyed sunny weather each day. Not everything was perfect, but it came close! We stayed in on oceanfront room in the third floor. The view was perfect with swaying palm trees and rolling waves crashing to shore! The room looked exactly as we remembered it, which is not always a good thing. Updating is helpful! The food was ranged from average to excellent! Our specialty dinners each night were great: Toni's, Italian, and Gourmet/French. We even had sushi apps one night at the Japanese restaurant before our dinner. The chef at lunch heard my husband and I mentioning that we wish there was sushi at lunch. He insisted we have some sushi that night before we went to our assigned specialty dining restaurant. We did so and had such a pleasant evening pampered by the chef and Osiris, the dining room manager. Thank you again! Breakfast at The Grand was not our favorite. I am not the biggest fan of buffets and even the individually prepared food didn't win us over. The food at breakfast could get repetitive. Lunch was fine, but I did miss the outside grilling of paella and lobsters that I enjoyed so much last time. Where was the outside grill that was located right outside Las Brisas? Dinners each night were excellent! The beach was great with plenty of palapas and chaises. The big negative was the seaweed probably due to the storm. The employees worked so hard removing the seaweed from the beach, but there was nothing to be done about the quantity in the water. It made the ocean fairly unswimmable! Bar service was always attentive bringing drinks and snacks! The quiet pool was relaxing and it became our favorite way to end our day before going back to the room. Mirna is a gem and she should be rewarded for her kindness and hospitality. She was always ready to take a drink order or see if there was anything else needed.Star Friends were friendly, particularly Luis with his welcoming smile and kind word. The golf course was in beautiful condition, although the temperature was quite hot. My husband and I were shocked that a tropical storm had little effect on the conditions of the course. You would never have known that a storm had just occurred. The golf shop and course employees were friendly and intuitive. They always knew when a cold drink was needed as they seemed to appear out of nowhere in their golf cart. Only on my husband's last day did he find it almost impossible to play with the onslaught of mosquitoes! Service had some issues, and not all of it due to the employees. We only had turn down service four out of the seven nights we were there. In the entire Building 70, there was only one employee to do this job. That is inadequate! This is not the employees fault, but management's fault. One person can not be expected to straighten all occupied rooms each evening. This may seem like a ridiculous issue but I don't keep towels on the floor at home, and I don't like to do it on vacation. I especially shouldn't be questioned by the concierge if I had put out the maid service sign, which of course I had done. This was the second time the concierge was quick to question the guest about something Iberostar should have handled. My other concern with the concierge was over dinner reservations. We were grateful that our butler Henri was able to handle a mixed-up reservation after the concierge told us she would put us on the waiting list after our written by Iberostar schedule did not match the ticket provided.Would we return? Of course! We had a most enjoyable week relaxing in the sun with only a few minor hiccups!

Amazing, Amazing!

We had a wonderful week long trip for our 10th Anniversary! The staff was amazing, our butlers Gonzolo and Fernando were so kind and attentive and made us feel very special! Mirna at the quiet pool was a great waitress and kept us hydrated all day every day. All the staff were just incredible. Wish we could have stayed longer!

The Good, Bad and Ugly

The GoodAs a family and couple, we have visited the Iberostar resort near Playa multiple times in past years. Our vacations have been enjoyable, with a few rare exceptions. On this occasion in mid April, we were booked at the ocean front suites. The staff are delightful and work so hard to enhance the customer experience. It was a pleasure to renew acquaintance with staff from past visits and enjoy the pleasure of meeting new faces. Accolades must be sent to Jhannet, evening shift and room preparation connoisseur. A warm thanks to Israel, front desk attendant at the Lobby Grand. Accolades to Emilo and Alberto, two exceptional waiters whom we had meet during past vacations, always providing a smile and excellent service. With a welcoming embrace, Mirna greeted us, an established Iberostar member who expertly attends to customer’s food and beverage requests at the quiet pool. Many thanks to Haui A. at Public Relations who promptly replied to our email questions over the past years, it was our pleasure to meet you in person. Our favorite restaurant this trip was Toni's. With an extended visit, we were able to enjoy supper on a couple of occasions, with exquisite results. Venezia was hit and miss as we enjoyed our first meal, but the second sitting was less inspiring. While there have been minor menu changes to the Haiku Japanese, you will certainly enjoy the food and atmosphere. If bookings are available, reserve at the grilling table to enjoy the full experience. While delectable, so much food was prepared, we could not finish our meal, nor had capacity for dessert.Latelier Gourmet Restaurant had changed their menu and was sadly disappointing compared to past visits. As a result, we cancelled our 2nd evenings reservation.La Brisa was our go to for lunch, so many varied selections, we never tired of the delicious meals, ocean views and stellar service.Bella Vista Buffet Restaurant offered a change to attend in relaxed attire, but always offered a tasty, varied selection for breakfast and dinner. The BadInternet went down due to inclement weather and never really recovered. IMessage on our devices were intermittent, communication difficult with family members back at home.Due to low season, not all restaurants are open for supper, and create some challenges with opportunities to book.During our numerous stays at the Grand, we became aware that first time guests were often upgraded at check-in to the ocean front rooms from the current classification. As a repeat customer with similar room accommodations, I inquired why preferred repeat guests were treated with less admiration than 1 st time guests. At the time, I was informed there was nothing in their customer notation to recognize preferred returning guests. Our upgrade requests fell on deaf ears after multiple requests, until this event when low season offered a somewhat preferred rate. The UglyWe were disheartened to learn a customer focused, dedicated front line employee at the Grand, whom we had befriended during past visits, departed Iberostar employment due to challenging working conditions. In addition, after acknowledging an elite, customer focused management employee in writing to their superiors, we were dismayed to realize they were never recognized, nor did upper management have the courtesy to contact us.

2nd home in Paradise

A little background: My wife and I love to travel and have always had the goal of visiting every Caribbean island. After 7 years of island hopping in our 20's as an unmarried couple, we had conquered at least half of the islands. Due to our love of travel, we chose to have a destination wedding at the Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso based solely on pictures we saw in a brochure. Well to say the least, we got married at the Grand and have had difficulty making progress on our original travel goals ever since. From the moment we decided to plan a destination wedding, the staff at the Grand went above and beyond our expectations. They were very accommodating during the wedding planning process, assisted with anything that we needed even from afar, and turned our vision into reality. We were treated like royalty, we were given the opportunity to enjoy the Presidential suite, we were lavished with fresh flower arrangements, newlywed apparel, and just pampered to the hilt. It felt like a dream! Our wedding guests that traveled with us were also provided the opportunity for room upgrades and were welcomed like family. To say the least, our wedding was spectacular from the violinist, mariachi band, to the food, decorations, and flowers. Wedding coordinator Cristina Aguilar worked with us during our wedding week and was on point from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Every time we turned around staff were greeting us, pushing in our chairs, refilling our glasses, and accommodating us in whatever way possible. From that day forward, my wife and I knew the Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso would become our new "home". We have returned to our home every year since 2013 for our anniversary and recently visited in February of 2017 to celebrate our "babymoon". But why do we continue to come back year after year?? Everyone knows that travel day can a pain and the Iberostar Grand team knows this better than anyone. On arrival, welcome greetings are always given as if you were family, Ricardo and the rest of the team (Bellboy "Racing Pit Crew") quickly assist you by helping with your luggage and provide cool towels which are always refreshing. Checking in at the front desk in our experience has always been a smooth and enjoyable process thanks to a special lady named Priscilla who we've been fortunate to have assist us during each of our trips. Priscilla and her team have always been welcoming, professional, and well prepared for our arrival. My wife and I have actually become friends with Priscilla and keep in contact with her throughout the year! She is truly a remarkable person who is very friendly, patient, and down to earth. She will do anything for you and we can not wait to see her next year to catch up! After a brief check-in at the front desk and a welcome drink or two, the "pit crew" are back in the race once again to assist with landing you and your luggage to your assigned room. (BTW, we highly recommend booking an ocean front room, our favorite, which provides a tremendous view to say the least as well as easy access to the beach because your pretty much sitting right on top of it.) And if you didn't want to walk to your room, well there are golf carts awaiting to take you. The golf cart guys are amazing and will pick you up and drop you off anywhere in the resort! Upon arrival at your room, the concierge and butlers are there to greet you, get you anything that you may need, schedule dinners, and review any questions that you may have. My wife and I absolutely love Alejandra and Mauro! We have known Mauro for several years now and consider him like family. We keep in touch with him via Facebook and not to mention, he made our "babymoon" unforgettable! He decorated our room, sent us little notes, and presented us with the cutest pair of baby girl shoes ever! Where else are you going to travel where you get treated like this!? Another added benefit of the rooms are how spacious they are. The ocean view rooms feature a spacious bathroom with double sinks, a whirlpool tub, and walk in tiled shower. Then moving onto the room, there is a king sized bed, storage closet, night stands, a breakfast nook area, and balcony featuring a couch and a swing. The rooms are always stocked with beverages, snacks, coffee, and are kept clean thanks to Nelda and her crew. We love the room staff as have been lavished with fresh flower arrangements, rose petals on the bed, towel animals, bubble baths with roses, snacks, and decorations in the past. Not to mention, there is room service 24/7 which will bring you tasty treats like coconut ice cream! Another added perk of the grand is the food. There are so many food options from the buffet, to La Brisa, to Tony's Steakhouse (where you will find the best filet mignon and lobster tail ever!) My wife and I absolutely love the food, especially the specialty breads, cheeses, fresh fruits, and desserts! We also enjoy the food themed nights like Stars under the Stars! Speaking of food, a few staff members that we would like to highlight are Olivia, Alfredo, Antonio, Hugo, and Luis ( former wine sommelier). These individuals are truly amazing and remarkable workers who go above and beyond. Olivia for instance always greets us with a hug and converses with us like we were family. She is a very hardworking individual who goes out of her way to ensure the food is the upmost quality. She even made us a special cake! Then there is Luis who in the past, made our dinner at Tony's extra special by providing us with roses on our table and decorated our room! Onto a another reason why my wife and I love the Grand, the bartenders and Star Friends! We would like to highlight the following bartenders: Gustavo, Daniel, Mirna, Gabriel, Hunberto, and Alberto. Gustavo and Daniel can be found at the lobby bar and are spectacular bartenders. Just ask for any drink and they can make it! We highly recommend the Diego, cake shots, or ask for their specialty. These two bartenders also go above and beyond and are highly attentive and entertaining. Not to mention, my wife and I also keep in touch with these two gentlemen throughout the year! Mirna can be found at the quiet pool which is sooo peaceful and serene. Mirna always has a smile on her face and is always pleased to get you whatever you may need. Mirna has become very familiar with my wife and I and knows exactly what we like, without even asking! The remaining bartenders can be found at the swim up bar in the pool. This bar is where all the action takes place and is very popular among the guests. The swim up bar features daily games like bingo and is definitely the place to be for a good time. We like to visit the pool bar/main pool to play volleyball, basketball, and to participate in various relay games which are run by the Star friends! Speaking of Star Friends, my wife and I would like to give a shout out to Edar, Santiago, and Andres. More specifically, Edar who has known us for the past 5 years and is now a family friend. Edar is like family and keeps in contact with my wife and I throughout the year. He goes above and beyond to make sure the guests at Iberostar are enjoying their stay, the activities, and the nightly shows. Moving onto the managers- Sarah and Mayvany. These two ladies are the hardest workers we have ever seen. My wife and I met Mayvany a couple of years ago and stays in close contact with her throughout the year. Mayvany is open to new ideas, recommendations, and is always trying to improve the Grand. She is a truly remarkable person who is very passionate about Ibersotar and her guests. Again, she is like family to us and we especially enjoy her company while drinking coffee and talking about our fur babies and life problems! She even presented my wife and I a picture frame for our new baby! How sweet is that!? Again, these two ladies are another reason why my wife and I continue to come back to Iberostar. Last but not least, the overall Grand experience is what keeps us coming back. My wife and I absolutely love the Grand and Iberostar and highly recommend this resort to everyone. The resort is absolutely beautiful and it is a sight to see all the different resorts in one. The views from the landscaping, to the animals, to the lobbies, pools, and beaches are breathtaking. Not to mention, the decor, the atriums, walk ways, bars, restaurants, and even the bathrooms are amazing! We love how we have the opportunity to visit the other resorts such as the Maya, go shopping at the the"shopping mall", participate in exercise classes, try other restaurants and bars, and just to explore. We also love how safe we feel; no one can enter the resort without going through security, and not to mention, there are security guards at every resort. We have never had any issues at the Grand and feel completely safe whether on the beach, drinking at the swim up bar, to dancing it up at the Galaxy night club. Overall, we consider the Grand our 2nd home in Paradise and will vouch that everyone should visit the Grand at least once in their lifetime. We are actually planning a wedding reunion for 2018 and will be inviting all our past guests! We are so excited and can not wait to come back! It has been a big change for us not being able to go to Iberostar this summer since having a new bundle of joy! But, wouldn't trade it for the world! The Grand is truly "Grand" and is definitely a one of a kind, memorable all-inclusive resort!

Out of this world

Coeliac and other food restrictions-friendly. The Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso in the Riviera Maya is the definition of excellence, as my husband said “A real 5-star hotel”. The place is gorgeous, the pool is 20 meters away from the beach, while you’re in the pool drinking your margarita you have the most beautiful view of the sea. The service and the food are even more impressive, you see people taking pictures of the buffet because the diversity of food is just endless and the quality of the food is out of this world. I had never stayed at a hotel with a better service and better food than this. The staff is always going out of their way to make you feel comfortable, they don’t just do their job, they take “going the extra mile” seriously. I have a really strong gluten intolerance, chef Octavio saw me grabbing wafers from the gluten free section and told me they could accommodate me and make me some GF French toast or crepes, pasta (yes, they have a gluten free bread section!) and he told his colleague chef Olivia and she made me some wonderful French toast. This place makes you feel like you are in a parallel paradisiac dimension, when you go out of the complex to do some tours is like “stepping back into reality” and when you go back to the hotel is like stepping back into paradise. When it was the time to leave we didn’t want to come back, it’s the first time I don’t miss going back home after 7 days.
