Our Opinion

A perfect hotel for families and couples. There is a plethora of activities during the day and night. Evening entertainment is held every night. The property - which includes Iberostar Paraiso Beach - is huge, so this resort is suited for those who don't mind a little bit of walking. There is a variety of both buffet and a la carte items to choose from - make sure to check out the steak restaurant. A great beach area. However, like most large resorts, this area gets fairly busy during the day, so make sure to grab a lounger early. An amazing kids club and there are plenty of all-ages activities.

Paradise

This resort was so beautiful. Our ocean front suite was on the end and did not have a full ocean view but what we did have was beautiful. Loved looking out on horizon and see the cruise ships coming and going to Cozumel. Grounds are spotless and made you want to walk to various places. (And there is a lot of walking). Golf carts run pretty often, if you don t mind waiting for them. We ate at the hibachi restaurant and it was very good. If you really want to eat at specialty restaurants, book as soon as you can. The pool is amazimg but it is so hot it would have been nice if the water was cooler. Wild life was beautiful and a lot of them. Only bad spot (and not terrible) was the food. Breakfasts were great at the buffet but dinners not so much. Saying that, there was always something there for even our pickiest eater . (French fries every night!). Most fun night was when the Mariachi band played at each table. Drinks were good, amazing ice cream, (don't miss the hazelnut/walnut). Really cute little mall connnected to it but very expensive items. Taco restaurant there was very crowded. I guess I expected more from that. All this being said , the beauty and friendly personnel of this resort far exceeds the negatives. Tips are appreciated but not expected. Service is so good from everyone they certainly do deserve what you can give them. Would I go back??? I sure would!!!!

Latinos do not go here!

We recently went to this resort a few days ago. We couple of incidents occurred. First or second night that we were there my wife and her sister arrive at the night club on the resort. The door man instructed them that a ID was needed. They thought nothing of it and head back to room to get them. Side note the room is a far walk. They get the ID's and return and noticed the door man not carding the caucasian people. They comforted the door man and he Denied telling them anything about the ID. They asked to speak to the manager and they would not call him. After 15 minutes of arguing and demanding to speak with manger he finally arrived. That's one instance. Throughout the resort we just felt how we weren't a priority at all, anyone that looked caucasian or American was top priority. Drinks took up to an hour of being delivered by our waitress by the pool. At one time she had our drinks and got stoped by an American caucasian family with $2 in hand and let them take whatever she had which included a cup of water for my 1 year old son. I wouldn't come back to this resort and or this resort chain. Cons:Broken refrigerator in roomWeak acSame food every dayRude staffDirty beachNeeds more security (someone tripped my 1yr old on purpose was about to get ugly with the perpetrator)Shows were badEntertainment badPros:Pending(can't think of any)

Beautiful Hotel - Fantastic Weather - Great Family Vacation

My Husband and I and Our Son and his family and friends all headed to the Del Mar without knowing what to expect. There were 14 of us and we each had our own individual rooms in different locations. All the rooms were beautiful and kept meticulously clean every day while we were there. The grounds were just beautiful, we had only one rainy day and that gave us time to shop and relax in the beautiful lobby and bar there. The Swimming pool was huge and beautiful with a wonderful kids area shallow enough for them to be safe and have fun. For adults the swim and walk up bar was a great addition. The People who picked you up and drove you back and forth to where you wanted to go by golf cart were very friendly and courteous and always willing to help you. The entire staff was extremely pleasant and efficient. The restaurants were not air conditioned but were bird caged and did have plenty of fans but this time of year it was extremely humid and hot. Dress comfortably. Only one restaurant requires long pants and the rest just require Bermuda Shorts and collared shirts however they don't really enforce it. Your reservation ticket indicates what attire is acceptable if you check the bottom of it. There are no elevators and 3 floors in each building so be aware of this when you check in. You may want to just make sure you bring you most comfortable clothing and shoes/sandals because of the humidity. Rubber sole sandals/shoes would help as the floors can be slippery. There were plenty of beach chairs at the pool and even in the pool. We did not encounter any mosquitoes either although others in their reviews indicated they did. Guests were friendly and helpful to one another as were all the staff. There are 5 specialty restaurants to choose from and if you are there for 5 nights you get to choose two. We choose the Steak House which was fantastic and the Japanese Hibachi which was very disappointing. They also have the Buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinners. There is a lovely shopping mall with a great Ice Cream and Crepery, Taco Shop, even a church for Mass and Weddings as well as many other shops. Everything is just a golf cart ride away. For myself I would prefer to go at a cooler time of year as it is the rainy and humid season - just like Florida where I live. Otherwise it was a wonderful place, all inclusive and totally enjoyable for kids and adults.

Great Time at Del Mar - Second Stay

I have stayed at Iberostar Del Mar in May 2016 and really enjoyed my 2 weeks stay so this year I decided to spend my 2 weeks’ vacation there again and brought my friend and her daughter to share the pleasure.Well, my impression after the previous stay have not been spoiled – the hard working staff did all above and beyond to make sure the guests were warmly welcomed, accommodated and entertained. Anytime I and my girls needed anything, the concierges and reception girls – Laura, Andrea, Anna have been more than ready to help. Unfortunately my friend had an issue with her room but when we addressed the concern, Christian, the concierge, was able to solve the problem quickly and professionally. We have been given two different villas what I did not like from the beginning but promised to move us together ASAP. Later on we decided to stay where we were just to enjoy beautiful grounds, those peacocks, flamingos and coatis and gorgeous plants and flowers which we could see during our daily walks. This year it was much more golf carts and even small red trains picking up the guests and the drivers offered a rides as soon as they saw us walkingI found a lot of improvements in the food at the buffets and at a la carte restaurants as well, we went for dinner at Gourmet, Brazilian, Mexican (for my birthday party – FUUUN!) and Mediterranean ( for my friend daughter birthday), the food and drinks were excellent and our waiters were knowledgeable, professional, and polite. They made an extra step to bring both of the birthday girls birthday cake, sang a song and made our special nights lovely and memorable. On my second day I found a warm letter from the management thanking me to choose to stay at Del Mar again and a little surprise – the small bottle of tequila, I was really touched by the attention Del Mar paid to the guests. My housekeeper, Mayoli, was doing really good job not only to clean the room but make different towel art figurines for me every day (whoever reads my review PLEASE tip your housekeepers – they work hard and deserve some extras). It was such a pleasure to meet old friends and be recognized by them in a sec – Lionel from the beach bar, best of the best, Fatima – this girl is a HARD WORKER!, Karlos from La Fuente bar, Alfredo, our night buffet waiter who knew by heard what we preferred to drink even without questioning usOf cause we made some new friends over there – Orlando from the theatre bar – thank you for making special drinks for the Canadian lady, Vincente from El Faro restaurant, Alexandro from the swim up bar at the main pool. Sorry for those I did not mention – Del Mar has amazing staff and it is one of the main attractions!I cannot bypass the Star Friends animation team work not to say THANK YOU. I was highly impressed by entertainment team’s work the last year and Lalo, the supervisor, managed to keep the same family spirit and high level of the professionalism for all the games, competitions around the pool and beach and pre show games on the stage. 3 bright stars from previous year were still there and it was so much fun to meet them again – Liliana, mi corason, Cesar and of cause Sexy Pappy Cudos to Karolina for amazing work with kids, I have not seen anything like that at the other resorts I stayed. Alonso, Giovanni, Mike, Luis, Karla – great job guys!Overall, it was 2 weeks in paradise and I already miss that timeHope to see you again soon mi amigos!

Beautiful beach, Perfect vacation!

Thank you Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar for the wonderful vacation we dreamed about for months! Everything from the staff, to the room, to the beach, to the food was perfect! Let me start off by saying I spent the extra money to have a ground level room right on the beach. (Superior Jr. oceanfront Ste. - building 10) It was worth every penny to have our patio open up to the sand and to be able to hear the waves all night even with the door closed. I read every review for months, so I would like to contribute now on the points that were important to me. 1) The beach is gorgeous, open, and perfect for swimming. Yes, there are some rocks and reefs but none of us used shoes and I'm at a loss to understand what people complained about. The rocks are large and very easy to avoid. There were tons of cool fish all over! We also used rafts/intertubes (which the store near the pool with inflate for free) which was a blast. The water is crystal clear Caribbean blue, and the staff was diligently cleaning up any seaweed on days it washed up. 2) The service was EXCELLENT. The people of Riviera Maya are incredibly friendly and we loved getting to know the staff and practicing our Spanish! Golf carts are constantly driving by to give you a lift, the waiters are happy to serve, and our room was always very clean and well stocked. 3) The food was better than expected for an all-inculsive resort. If you are a foodie, plan to eat in Playa del Carmen for a real treat, but the hotel food, including the buffets, were great. We especially loved the Japanese and El Colonial restaurants. The coffee shop and crepe/ice-cream shop in the shopping center were fantastic! OH - you must go to the taco shop in the shopping center for some DELISH authentic tacos! We couldn't get enough! I live in Arizona where everyone has a swimming pool, so we didn't spend much time in the pool. However it was huge, beautiful and always had lots of activities going on. Personally, we were there for some relaxation on the beach, but the staff was very entertaining and always wanted to make sure we were happy. We also did several excursions - get out there and explore the area! It is safe, friendly and there's so much to discover!
