Our Opinion

A perfect hotel for families and couples. There is a plethora of activities during the day and night. Evening entertainment is held every night. The property - which includes Iberostar Paraiso Beach - is huge, so this resort is suited for those who don't mind a little bit of walking. There is a variety of both buffet and a la carte items to choose from - make sure to check out the steak restaurant. A great beach area. However, like most large resorts, this area gets fairly busy during the day, so make sure to grab a lounger early. An amazing kids club and there are plenty of all-ages activities.

No Regrets, would go back

Had a wonderful time Nov 4-11th. great beach & beach bar, buffet food was varied & quite good & speciality restaurants were very good (Brazilian the best!). Entire facility well maintained & well laid out. Stayed in building 11 which was very close to beach, pool & beach buffet. long walk to lobby area but was welcomed after dinner. Staff were 1st class, very friendly & attentive. Room 1106 very clean - thanks to Lourdes - shower & a/c great. golf cart service was quick & efficient. No issues at all & would go back.

Wonderful

I loved this place. The workers were very friendly. I would like to thank Javier and Esteban for everything. The room was nice. The pool was wonderful. The food was just OK. The loon bar is the place to be.

Great location, nature and excellent staff

I would have given this resort a 5-star rating had it not been for one area that I felt management fell to act on. But first the good things that were many:1. Staff - everyone was friendly, polite and hard working. We had great experience with the entertainment staff, they were engaging, high energy and fun. We watched a few of the shows with the Rock one being the best. All the staff at the buffets and restaurants was fantastic and caring and our cleaning lady always made sure our room was spotlessly clean. 2. Nature - we actually loved the fact that nature is preserved as much as possible in the resort. The resort was very lush and we both were fascinated by all the wild life around. We also loved the fact that the resort was spread out, walking and enjoying the fresh air was a bonus for us and we enjoyed taking romantic strolls at night. 3. Rooms - we were given a great room close to the quiet part of the large pool and we had equal distance to the beach and lobby. The bathroom was great and everything nice and clean. Bed was comfortable and we slept well. 4. Pools and beach - the quiet side of the pool was undergoing renovations the last two of our stay but that was not an issue since the pool area is long and we were always able to find good chairs no matter what time we went to the pool area. Beach was great and we enjoyed taking walks along it. A few times we saw baby turtles being released in the sea which was great sight to stumble upon. The bar and the grill on the beach were good. 5. Food - being a vegetarian I always found things to eat and the variety was good. My husband enjoyed most of the meals he ate and we both liked the food we tried at the Mediterranean restaurant we ate at. Dessert options were pretty good too. The only thing that left a bad impression (at least speaking for myself) was that my husband got sick after 2 days and after knowing that we spend 24 hours in a Cancun hospital, no one from management followed up with us to make sure we are ok. Since they were generally so good with customer service, it was baffling to me that they would not make any attempt to inquire on our well-being after our hospital visit. I mentioned my disappointment as we were checking out on our last day and a supervisor appeared as we were waiting for our bus to the airport that said she was sorry that we had trouble but that they tried to call us and we must have disconnected our phone! What a suggestion! Once I pointed out that they no trouble contacting us for a presentation of their membership and to arrange for the pick up of our bags, she really didn't have much to come back with and just gave me her card and said to come visit them again. Not very good customer service from management in my view! Overall, except for this, we thought the resort was beautiful, well kept and staff was hard-working and friendly so we enjoyed our stay.

Attractively-Unattractively unusual/old-fashioned/boring

My husband, daughter (16) and I booked this property from Oct. 28th to Nov. 4th, 2017We were pretty excited to escape Alberta, Canada for a week. Vacation was booked with Sunwing (as usual). Our flight from Calgary to Cancun was just plain awful, with crew so low on a customer service, to the point I wanted to explode. However, my Sungwing flight WG487 review will find its place somewhere else.Going back to Del Mar review. Before I make any remarks about this property I would like to say that staff at the resort is so nice, polite and helpful. Multiple staff members interacted with us for two days stay and all of them were just amazing. Sunwing/Nexus guy at the property (his name) Oliver was so helpful and We were pleasantly surprised BY HIS EFFECTIVENESS.Check In/Reception: Once again really good customer service, very helpful, we stayed in building 13 (closer to the pools, or you can say half way between the beach and reception.Property/Grounds: well maintained, choice of exterior and interior colors is from 1920, but I guess some people like that. I love walking, but dear God it was so much walking in two days to get where you wanted to go. There are golf carts passing by almost every 5 min so yes if you choose to be driven around, yes you can do it. I found that most of the times carts are not going in my direction or they are taking different routs around the property so in all honesty it was faster to walk. There are some building's facade where you can clearly see maintenance is to be done like (last year) but I guess with humidity and all the rest management is trying to catch up and do the best in their power. When you stay at Del Mar you have access to Iberostar Beach, if you would like to visit any of other 3 properties you HAVE TO PAY, and the range per person per day was from $50 to $300+. When you check the commercial or promotional video and pictures of Del Mar there are in fact pictures including other Iberostar properties (such as hammock area). Sure you can go there and enjoy in hammock for a day $50 USD per person. Not cool. For instance IB part has gym, tennis court, archery and some other perks, which yes you can visit at no extra cost. But, how about if you are already selling two different properties both can have same amenities accessible for the guest at each. My opinion. All I want to say is that this is not a first time property has been misleading in advertising. Now I am not sure if this is up to a travel agency or a property.Rooms: Dear Mother of God. Needs some updates as soon as possible. Mattresses so uncomfortable, double beds...I believe beds on purpose are shortened for an inch or two. Cleanliness of the rooms it is not close as to 4.5* rating. We were ready to pay extra and be transferred to a better room but after checking out couple of rooms we have decided it was not worth spending extra $$$. When you stay at Del Mar you have access to Iberostar Beach, if you would like to visit any of other 3 properties you HAVE TO PAY, and the range per person per day was from $50 to $300+. Pool: we did not spend much time by the pool, but it did looked clean, lot of pool chairs, and after 4pm water is on a cold (no heating pools). To us pools looked like a dead end, it was quite, entertainment was not much...it was sad. We were told it is low season, but again if advertised it should be delivered, or maybe a note or two advising travelers of high pick good entertainment, low pick slow entertainment season. Note like this might avoid bad reviews and can only be a plus.Entertainment: Soooooo boring. This is not a reflection of people who work as entertainers at the resort but rather about not meeting our expectations. The usual show is 9:30pm to I think 10 or 10:30pm and after that you can indulge in a cairokee, DON'T. All in all we were bored to death.Food: plain. A la cart was clean, but food (ugh). There is an area highly advertised by all the staff, it's like a small version of a mall, where food court is included in your stay, Please if your stomach is not made from iron, do not eat there. I have had a cheese cake so bad that 5 min after having two small fork-bites of a cheese cake I was sick. Stores at the "mall" are nice, clean and freaking expansive, just go out to Playa and do not waste your time at the so called mall.Beach: absolutely the best part of this resort (if you walk more to your right). Ocean was very clean, same as beach, but for some reason it had that dead quite boring feeling. If it is up to me I would have some music there (other then personal headphones). All in all not impressed with what I have paid for...so Sunwing and Oliver helped us to transfer to another resort rated at 4* (Riu Tequila) way, way better. One thing I was not impressed with is paying for a Taxi to be transferred, and that ride cost us $40 USD. I guess if you are looking for a quite not eventful vacation then this is the property to stay at, or if you are first time at an All Inclusive resort then you might be in awe...us not so much. Oh and do not let me forget: beware of mosquitoes!!!For end I would just like to once again point to all the staff at the resort, really nice, pleasant and helpful people. Side note to the staff at reception: just because I do not speak Spanish that does not necessarily means I do not understand, so your comments about us or other guests or remarks you make were quite funny for somebody with a sarcastic sense of humor (such as me), but those same comments can be easily misunderstood by others and can get you in a "hot water".

Amazing vacation!!

The resort was beautiful and the staff especially the entertainment staff including Luis, Lilliana, Cesar, Giovanni and our waiter Santos. Would definitely recommend this hotel for families with kids as the kids club was amazing with Karina and Roy who kept our 5 year old entertained the whole week.
