Best tennis and pampered week ever

The rooms are great. Cleaned twice a day! The tennis pro Peter is fantastic! Best tennis program ever. The food was great! Crepes and fresh fruit every morning for me. The French restaurant is not to be missed. The beach is nice and the pool is fun. The swim -up bar is especially fun. The grounds are beautiful and we'll maintained.

Great Family All Inclusive

We spent a week over spring break. Staff friendly and helpful. Food great at sit down restaurants, just average at buffets. Desserts were sub-par, except for the ice cream. Pool was awesome,go down early to get a seat. The recreation staff were awesome. Family suite was huge! Perfect for the four of us. We will be beach next time we go to Mexico. Beach was huge - lotsa food and drinks at beach.

Great Hotel with not enough chairs and towel police

Great hotel, beautiful grounds, good food but this has to be the all time worst problem at this hotel. We have been staying at Iberostars for over the past 20 years no matter where we go. This year at the Maya if you did not get up at 5:30 am every morning and go out and put towels on chairs you would have NO place on the beach or around the pool. Who wants to do this on vacation??? It got so bad that by the end of our week they had towel police going around and just taking your towel off the chair to reserve it both on the beach and around the pool. Then are you ready for this one??? they took your towel off your chair that you may have used the night before and put it back into the towel building to hand out to the next customer that needed fresh towels. My god if you have just say 300 rooms to rent then your better plan on having 500-600 chairs for people to use both at the beach and around the pool. The first two days we we were not able to be on the beach and we are beach people. Iberostar made us into those people who get up at 5 am and run to the chairs and put towels and books down to have a chair for the day. I was and are still very dissapointed at how they handled this and will think twice about ever using an iberostar again. Oh and there is one more thing, their vacation club is nothing more than a re-named time share. Do not fall for this and REMEMBER times shares/vacation clubs are the worst investment one could ever make in their lifetime.

A Nice Hotel, the clash of cultures and 10 days of Diarrhea

Well, hard for me to start. I would love to write a very good review. This is why I didn't:Prologue:Last year we went on a Cruise in the Mediterranean Sea. This experience was not only very good it was excellent. So for 2017 we were lokking for a similar kind of hospitality but at a Hotel Resort. After lots of web research and talks with several travel Agents we came out with the Iberostar paraiso maya. What to know:Here in Germany this Hotel is advertised as a signature Spot. A luxury getaway.I doubt this marketing concept now. The good:After a eleven hours Flight and transportation to and from Airport it was a very good idea from the Hotel to serve a cold beverage. My wife is fine but she did not eat Fish and seafood. Very refreshing and I thought of the beginning of a long friendship. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would recomend Christina from the Crepesstation in the La Marina Restaurant. Jorge from the Maya Mainbar and Xavier from the Starfriends bike tour very nice and helpful people. They should get an wagelift. The whole giant plant is beautifully designed. There is a good selection of food and drinks. Even brands are served. If you want a special cocktail please don't hesitate to ask. The Room was very spacious. The bad:All furniture was worn and had scratches and quirks. The room had a musty smell. We always had mosquitoes in the room. 2 days before departure we discovered a vase with mosquito larvaes. Alexandra from the Concierge Desk Building 62 was a little cold. The cooking class was : How to put premade Guacamole on a taco. Most of the Pastry looks very beautiful but tastes only average. One day there was an Evaluation. And because of the not so good pastry we give it only a good rather than an excellent. Immediately a Cook (Alexandro) appear and plead us to change the rating for good to excellent. He promised that we would have a very good dessert the next day. - We changed the rating. But we do not get a better dessert.the ugly:I love US Citizen. They get credit from me. 10 Point in advance. But it seems that some of this beauties forgotten their manners at home.Different culture I guess. And uber superficial. They ask you something and 2 seconds later they are gone. Even before I had a chance to answer the small talk question. At the pool or even the quiet pool very loud. No please and thank you to the staff. And different kind of approach. They came to make party and we came to relax. We have those places for Germans called "Ballermann".I love to travel to the United States and never had a bad experience there. But in this case (or should I say cage) too much rednecks in on place.I got sick 2 days prior departure back home. That was no fun trip back home And I suffer until today. My wife is fine but she did not eat Fish and seafood. Conclusion:Can I recommend this Hotel? For US Families Yes! You will have a great time. For German couples maybe you should look somewhere else.

Mixed Feelings

This review is a little late as our family of 5 (kids 12, 7 & 1yr) visited the Maya Oct. 1-9. I had extremely high hopes and expectations due to the many great reviews on here as well as many other review sites. I've come to the conclusion that I should base my vacation decisions on the average reviews from now on as the excellent and very good leave room for much disappointment. I was disappointed in many ways however I we did have a great time in Mexico and I would even consider going back to this resort for 2 reasons. As this was our 1st trip to mexico I am now afraid to go anywhere else in mexico as many say this is one of the best AI for families and all my research in this regards tends to show me that that is true. I'm sure there are better resorts in he same price category out there but this also does seem like one of the best. Another reason we would consider returning is knowing what to expect may help us to have a better experience the 2nd time around. But, I don't feel like this visit was worth the price so I do think we would book at the Lindo next time. Ok. Here is my actual review. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted with helpful bellboys and a delicious welcome drink. The lobby was huge, impressive, and as beautiful as the pictires. *Vanessa* checked us in she was warm and friendly. Check in was smooth and we were taken to our rooms. 6116 & 6117. I opened the door with excitement and anticipation (I thought I knew exactly what to expect from watching every video out there and reading thousands of reviews) My jaw literally dropped. The room smelled of mold and cleaner, there were huge knicks and dents in all of the furniture, rust like stains on the floor and just a general yucky feeling and atmosphere. I couldn't imagine us in that room. I don't like to complain and I try to make the best of things but the smell was already getting to me making me feel sick and I just wanted what we had paid for. I phoned front desk and told them my concerns. They told us to for now, go and enjoy ourselves have something to eat and they will see what they can do. So we did. We ate at El Tapino. Food was OK. Had some beef in tomato kind of sauce thing that was really good. *Armando* our waiter was a great guy. After lunch we returned to see what was going on with the rooms and they let us know we were changed to rooms 6106 6107. (different building location 66 right beside the kids splash park) We along with our luggage got back into a golf cart to our new rooms. We walked in and..yess! much better. It smelt clean, looked clean and I'm much better condition. I was satisfied. Later that evening we went to our 1st dinner reservation (I hate having to have reservations) La Geisha. I was so excited for my husband and kids to see the hibachi show as I had seen many videos and it looked like such fun. The chef started out with the show doing fancy little tricks with his utensils. Good entertainment to start. But then...nothing else. No fire or steam or any of the other neat tricks and things I saw in the pics and on the videos. I don't know why because we could her the other tables 'oooing and awwing' at their entertainment, but for us. Nothing really. I was very disappointed. So much so that later that week I booked another reservation but unfortunately we missed it due to an excursion. (xel-ha which we LOVED) Anyway...not a huge deal but it did matter to us. I should add my son had to use the washroom. He was ok to go by himself but my hubby decided last second to go just in case he didn't find it properly. Thank goodness he went too. As they were gone the chef, while doing his utensil tossing tricks (SHARP meat cleaver kind of utensils that is) he messed up and it flew right where my husband's head would have been. Everyone at the table just kind of looked at each other and me and my daughter in shock! We all kind of chuckled as it was a little humorous considering my husband and son who would have been beside him was not there but at the same time it is scary to think what would have happened had he been hit! Phew. Glad we dodged that bullet! OK so I could go on and on in details about so many things but I will just give some pros and cons and the hit and miss from here. PROS *Beautiful grounds *Nice beach -(some days the wave were really rough but we had a blast using our inflatable tubes) -the water was beautiful, clear and turquoise *The entertainment team were fun -Loved the pool games, music etc. -The pool foam party was a blast!! Don't miss it!! *The kids Club -My kids enjoyed themselves most of the time and they did not like the kids club at our resort in St. Lucia so this one must be much better. No complaints here*The Carousel -great for younger kids *The spa -it was very nice *The PAELLA!!! -soooo yummy. The best food we had the whole time. We could eat that everyday. *Ice cream/crepes shop -great to have that there and they were delicious HIT AND MISS *Food- was just ok. Some things were very good or even great (seafood restaurant) some buffets, Brazilian restaurants at the del Mar Some was just not very good. Nothing horrible or discusting disappointing though. The presentation especially at the buffets was excellent Chefs *Octavio* and *Giovanni* were great and deserve to be mentioned. Also *Hugo* the waiter is a funny guy. He got my husband some coffee one morning and with a silver jug in his hand asked him 'tequila?' 'sure' my husband replied. (it was just milk for the coffee but we all had a laugh) -beach food was very meh *Shows The shows were ok. I wasn't expecting for top notch performances so we enjoyed all of them. Some more than others but all were fine for entertainment. *The night clubPretty boring I was looking forward to it but it was just meh Also everyone we tried to take the kids during the hours when kids were aloud it was empty so that was a disappointment for them and us I think this really just depends on the time you go and the people that are there though * staff -staff were very friendly, some were great, others just meh...no bad encounters its just again...the reviews maybe put my hopes too high in regards to friendliness/outgoingness etc. A few people did stand out and I have/will mention them CONS *Miss information and lack of information-we often found ourselves walking/traveling by cart back and forth from one place to the next trying to make it for this or that activity only to find out there wasn't one or we missed it or the time was wrong ect. Maybe with better planning next time we can avoid some of these issues. *Too big-Due to the size of the resort you really have to do only a few things a day or you will be walking around tiring yourself out and not accomplishing anythingFor example me and the kids love the beach, hubby as well as the kids love the pool. We should have just alternated between one day beach one day pool as trying to fit both those in and lunch and co-ordinate that with pool games timing, dinner reservations. shows etc all just left us exausted. everything is too spread out. *A little boring -After the shows theres nothing to do except the night clubHubby and I found ourselves walking around, bar hopping at times looking for something to do We tried to engage in conversation with many of the bartenders and they were friendly but we couldn't really get a conversation started not much to do except walk around, grab a burger at the burger shop *pools close too early Big shout out to ***Charlie*** he was great. He also helped out when I was upset and couldnt find my husband and daughters on the beach. He tries very hard at all times to ensure guests are having a great time. (HI CHARLIE!!) Also want to mention...*Abraham**Alicia* All in all we had a good vacation.I put 3 stars as its not 4 for me but if I could I would put 3.5 - 3.7
