Fabulous vacation

We just came back from the most wonderful family vacation. Everything from the initial conversations before traveling with the concierge to arrival, check in and our stay was just perfect. We travel often and like more upscale properties. This was our third stay at an Iberostar resort and we will definitely visit Iberostar properties in the future.Let me start with the concierge, Fanny Gasca. She was super helpful before our trip answering questions, giving suggestions and helping plan our stay. She really went out of her way to accommodate our wishes. When we arrived the check in process was so smooth and again very friendly. Our arrival was very early but we were given our bracelets and storage of our bags so we could start to enjoying the beautiful property while waiting for our rooms. In my excitement to get to the beach I accidentally left my purse with all of my credit cards, our passports and over 2000 in US dollars in a restaurant. It wasn't until well situated at the beach did I realize what I had done. The staff helped me retrace my footsteps and notified the front desk and low and behold a staff member found my bag and returned it in its entirety. They were so gracious and I had to really convince them to accept tips for their honesty. We stayed in building 61, on the 2nd floor in a superior 2 bedroom family suite. The location was perfect, close to the beach and pool. The suite was huge and perfect for my husband and I and our son and his girlfriend. The rooms and the bathrooms were very well appointed and the staff took such good care of the rooms during our stay. Ancelma was the room attendant and each evening we had special towel animals, roses and chocolates! She kept the rooms spotless. We booked all of our excursions through Amstar in the front lobby. There was no pressure, great prices and again, the staff were awesome and helpful. Eva and her partner (I forget his name) were very accommodating. This trip was a surprise birthday gift for my husband and before we arrived Fanny Gasca booked our reservations for dinner each night, helped prepare the best birthday surprise at a restaurant complete with balloons, champagne and a gorgeous and delicious birthday cake. Ancelma decorated the room with balloons, roses and a huge cake created from towels!!In the lobby Pepe was so friendly and informative. He remembered our names everytime we went through the lobby and greeted us by name. He even told us how great Iberostar treated their employees and that made me even happier to visit the Iberostar property. When you hear only positive comments and meet such happy employees you know you chose the right vacation spot. There is a huge circular bar in the lobby and it was a great place to start and end the evening. There was a cigar and hookah bar, coffee bars and a great little shopping area with even more food and drink options besides what is directly in the resort. We enjoyed shows and entertainment at night and there is a disco for late night dancing. The food was very fresh and well presented and there was a sommelier in each of the restaurants that helped to pair wine with your dinner selection.I could go on and on but I am sure you are tired of reading. Feel free to contact me if I can answer any questions. We really had an awesome vacation and I would definitely recommend this property!!

Iberostar Paraiso Maya Disappoints!

We stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso Maya. I will start my review with the positive aspects. The resort itself is beautiful. The scenery is tropical and has a stunning Mexican motif and flair. The lobby’s of all the sister hotels are impressive too. It is very clean, and the workers are very friendly, bending over backwards to meet all of your needs and requests. One restaurant is prettier than the other. We stayed in building 64, which was centrally located. I recommend it. Our building had their own Concierge who helps you set up reservations, make sure your mini fridges are restocked and whatever you may need. The rooms are spacious and we had a very roomy L shaped corner balcony. Our maid Angelica was wonderful and always left a different type of toweled pet on our bed. The one con was that the rooms, especially the bathrooms were very dark .The grounds are big but we only used the jitney’s (larger golf carts) once. The Maya is right next to the Lindo, which is right next to the Beach Hotel and lastly the DelMar Hotel. Each of the properties are differently laid out, gorgeous with breathtaking waterfalls, statues, peacocks, coati’s, iguana’s and cats. You feel like you are in a tropical paradise. We went to the gym almost every day. In the morning it was a bit crowded but we were able to use the equipment we wanted within a few minutes of waiting. There is boot camp, spinning classes, and yoga if you were interested. Now for the bad news. I don’t consider myself a picky eater however all the buffets were subpar, and the food choices were not extensive. Each buffet was the same and offered consistent choices for the most part. Very often whether at the buffet’s or Speciality Restaurants, what was supposed to be hot was cold and what was supposed to be cold was hot. I have been to different parts of Mexico over a dozen times so I have a lot to compare with and the Maya and Lindo fall short. As far as the specialty restaurants at the Maya, I recommend the steak (Ranchero) restaurants. The Rib eye was great. The Fish restaurant (La Marina) was ok, order the surf without the turf. The Brazilian Restaurant at the Beach Hotel was decent, but the servers did not come around with the meats more than once. We come from New York and are used to being served until you put a red marker down that you had enough. The Japanese (Geisha) restaurant was hibachi style and good. The Italian restaurant at the Maya Hotel was disgusting. We ordered the fettuccini, and I will bet any amount that it came right out of Knorrs box. We took two bites, put down the tip and ditched. The ambiance at the French restaurant was very nice. Just make sure you eat before you go. Last thing about restaurants that you need to be aware is that when a somalier or any other waiter show you a wine list, take heed. They will not tell you those wines are not part of your all-inclusive price and are very expensive. I have seen my share of fights between vacationers and management. You don’t have a view of the beach from any of the buildings. While in the Maya, there are two lovely bridges with shiny wood plank floors that they maintain covered with greenery. It is a two minute walk across the bridge. The beach has one area for food that is nothing special (hamburgers, French fries that were cold). The soft serve ice cream machine was usually broken. The entertainment staff is very pleasant. Disappointingly enough, I have never in all my travels seen shows as bad as at the Maya/Lindo. (I heard the Beach and DelMar were no better). They were amateurish, unchoreographed, had horrible vocals and quite embarrassing. We tried each night hoping for the best. We walked out of each show. Our last night there was a ” Couples show” involving the guests that was very funny. I won’t go back because to this Iberostar because in my opinion, the bad outweighed the good. Good Luck.

Service Service Service !!!!

We just got back from the Iberostar Paraiso Maya last week. A beautiful, but very large resort. And yes, the rooms are a little dated, but nice and clean. But for me, it was about the amazing staff at this resort. Whenever you saw the workers, they would always stop to say OLA ! The housekeepers for our room were also amazing. I had Aurora and Ancelma. One was for the day and the other for turn down in the evening. Had no problem with the food and there was also great selection at the buffets. I do suggest that you book all of the sit down restaurants when you arrive and it can be done at the concierge at the building that you are staying at. We had the best waiter ever and he was at Le Gourmet Restaurant. Victor Cassanova was his name. Although he was very professional, he also had a great sense of humour which I believe is very important. And he was very accommodating and always made sure that we were happy and having a good time. So thank you Victor !!! We did go during March break, so that was a little hectic. A lot of young, immature kids were there and they did cause a few problems, but that is not the hotels fault. So if you can avoid it, please pick another time to go there. There was one downfall. The beach area was beautiful, but there was a lot of scattered rocks in the water. The ocean was very choppy, so it was hard to see them, but felt them once the waves took you under. But apparently there are a lot of rocky areas along the shores of the Mayan Riviera. People do reserve their chairs really early, but if there is a demand for the chairs, and your not there, security will pull your items off, and give your chair away to someone who is there which is fair in my opinion. There are 3 other adjoining hotels which all have something different to offer for young and older people. There is a pretty good size shopping mall, spa and gym, so you really don't need to leave the resort once you are there. But again, it was all about the service for me. The staff works so hard to keep all guests at the resort happy. They probably don't make a lot of money, so I was sure to tip them for great service. And they do appreciate it. Thank You Paraiso Maya !!

Beautiful property, but the food is not so good, drinks are not consistent, things close early!

Best thing is the property. It is beautiful. Rooms look very nice. It is done very nicely! But . . . there are a lot of things that could be done a lot better. Like the food. The breakfast buffets suck. They are all basically the same no matter where you eat. We ended up not even going for breakfast the last 3 days of our stay. The lunch buffets are basically all the same with a little variance, but they pretty much suck too. The food at the beach for lunch is always the same. Be warned the burgers and hot dogs are horrible, I still am trying to figure out what kind of meat they were. When eating dinner, make all your reservations your first day. You can always change later. Don't eat the buffets for dinner, it's the same as lunch, it sucks. I would suggest the French restaurant, they had the best food. We made our reservations late (9:00) because the pools close early (6:00), so there is not a lot to do at night except drink, but only the bar open after 6:00 is the one by the bar. It can take a while to get a drink because it gets crowded and there usually is only 1 or 2 bartenders. The drinks could be a lot better. Fruity rum drinks are not that good and they taste different from one bar to the next. They are not consistent at all! Every day we had a hard time finding seats at the pool. We would end up getting 1 seat for my family of 4. One day we ended up with a small side table to put our stuff. I wish I would have stayed at a different resort!

Great family resort

We stayed from January 1st through 10th, 2017. Family of four, 2 boys ages 12 and 15. Check In and Check out were fast and easy. It is a large resort but we enjoyed the walks and exploring the other 3 resorts. We tried all of the restaurants except the Gourmet. All were good and the Steakhouse had a great buffet which made the kids happy when they didn't want to order off the menu. They enjoyed the crazy waves at the beach and at the wave pool and spent time in the evenings at the pool tables and watching the shows at the Lindo. They felt comfortable exploring the different buffets at lunch time or grabbing a burger at the beach. The drinks were very good, lots of premium alcohol and the service was fast. The staff were all friendly and willing to help in any way. Excellent housekeeping service. I especially enjoyed the coffee at the Star Cafe any time of day. I used the gym daily, spin class, boot camp, treadmills. Instructors were top notch, a great way to start the day. I only discovered the spa the second last day there and really regretted not checking it out earlier as there was no cost for the wet area which had a variety of pools and a wet and a dry sauna. When we go back we will be sure to use that more often. No complaints about this resort, good food, good service and a spacious clean room. First Iberostar experience and we hope to go back same time next year. Don't hesitate to stay here and be sure to explore the other 3 properties that you have access to.
