Little bit of this and that.

Reason for stay was for business purposes and was selected by employer. Jan/2016 This place is massive! try to not forget something in your room or else you'll be getting your steps in for the day, lots of walking. Resort is well kept and maintained. Lots of green, beautiful flowers, statues and water features. The first day some people in our other group had items stolen from their room. Use the safe folks. The weather was soso, half our visit was overcast. Food and restaurant selection was great, I especially miss that coconut ice cream. There were lots of activities throughout the day and lots of pool space to spread out, whether it's the quieter side or the rowdier side. Staff was good and accommodating. I signed up for the Chichén Itzá and cenote tour which was amazing and i recommend.CON-Lots of time spent on a bus so bring things to keep occupied. We signed up for the Xplor Fuego tour and had a BLAST! Claustrophobians, Chiroptophobians and Acrophobians DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS. Overall, it wasn't a terrible stay. Would we return? Probably not because we prefer a smaller resort. We were a little turned off that some people in our group had some stuff stolen. For a 4.5 star hotel, you'd expect a better trusting staff. There were some moments of language barriers but we managed to pull through here and there. Although hard to snag a seat out there, we did enjoy the beachfront and the activities that happened around the area.

Relaxing in the warm sunshine can be a strenuous experience

On April 5 we took our entire family of 10 (6 adults and 4 grandchildren ranging in age from 7-14.We had 3 rooms, the largest of which was a family suite with two bedrooms and two baths.Location is important; too much noise from the night club, too far from the Lobby and all the food, close to the beach, close to the pools. When you arrive things are hectic, so dont' seattle for something that you do not want. The property is enormous. It must be a mile from the Lobby to the beach. Fortunately there are golf carts available on an irregular schedule to move you around. Depending on your physical condition, you may be quite exhausted at the end of the day. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The food was above average (this was not the consensus of our family). Some thought the food was sub par. The weather was ideal. Almost sunny and warm every day. In fact folks were running for shade. The rooms were nice size but tired. Very much in need of a refresh. In this world of multiple personal devices, the plugs where inadequate and the wifi was not fast.Decent, but not fast. The staff was wonderful. Very accommodating and willing to please. The only issue is that everything is 5 minutes, which means a range of 5-20 minutes. As long as you understand the 5 minute rule, you won't be disappointed. Also you have to learn quickly that the mixed drinks are alcohol light, so we ordered drinks with a double dose of alcohol. No issue with beer or drinks that are straight up. Somehow you survive. The specialty restaurants are mixed. The Japanese was like Beni Hana and good. The Mediterranian was OK. The Mexican restaurant was very good. Do not go to the Rock Cafe. It is aweful. The Italian Restaurant was also very good. A lot of the restaurants have buffet style for appetizers and desserts. Pace yourself or you will be rolled back to your room.BTW the beach was covered with seaweek as is the start of the water and the surface is very rocky. This along with a strong undertow makes the beach a challenge and it gets very windy. Our family had a very nice vacation, but would not return,.

Welcome Beautiful Family!

Bienvenidos, Welcome was how we felt from the moment we walked into the beautiful lobby to the last hour we spent playing pool waiting for our ride to the airport. The open air design of the resort adds to the feeling that you are truly in a tropical location, and not just a fancy hotel. Our Family Junior Suite was spacious. Three of us were able to comfortably share the space, including the large bathroom with jetted tub and double sink, a "step down" family room and a balcony with 2 chairs and a swing chair that looked out over the natural vegetation toward the pool area. We enjoyed watching for birds, coaties, and iguanas from our balcony. Each building has its own helpful concierge. We made reservations for 2 "ala carte" sit down dinners, and ate at the Pagoda and Marina buffets the other days. Food selection was great and varied day to day. Don't miss the paella on the beach lunches cooked in a gigantic pan! There are lots of pool chairs, but it did help to go down early to find the "just right" place to sit - the pool bar area is much louder and busier than the sports pool area. The only negative of the whole week was the policy in place to remove your towels from pool chairs if the pool security feel you have not been at the chairs for a period of time. We brought inflatable rings with us which we used in the pool and the lazy river. Try to pack small bottles of sunscreen in your luggage - it would be very expensive to buy at the resort. The Star Friends are the hardworking entertainment team who family activities ALL DAY - look at the schedule board each morning. We played pool volleyball, had fun watching poolside contests and our daughter played beach volleyball. In the evenings, we made sure to attend the show held each night in the open air theater. Star Friends play Bingo Bombo or other fun games for small prizes prior to the actual show. Shows included traditional Mexican Dances, a magician, Iberostar IDOL and a Viva Las Vegas show. Full beverage service is available throughout the resort from 10:00 AM on. There is a large selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. My daughters favorite was the Tiger. We enjoyed walking the short distance across the resort to the large shopping plaza in the evenings. There are also tennis courts and a golf course. The beach is beautiful with plenty of beach chairs, a bar, a burger bar and restrooms. You can walk up and down the beach, all total it is probably 1/2 mile of beachfront that is part of the resort. There are lifeguards on the beach. The entire resort is well maintained, the staff is very friendly and helpful.

So So experience

The resort, pool and beach were very nice. Food was just okay. Japanese restaurant, we heard great things about, but was very poor. We ended up leaving. Cooking the raw meat using the same utensils and then mixing the vegetables and rice. Just nasty, great way to make people sick...

Fun vacation with lots to do

The kids were busy and we were able to relax. We felt very safe to allow them to walk to the Lazy River or Wave pool while we sat and read a book. We joined them for the basketball court and Shooting range b/c it's far from the pool and harder to find. We brought walkie talkies b/c the facility is huge.***My son has food allergies. I notified the concierge and they typed up a note for me in Spanish to show to the Chef's and staff at each restaurant. What a weight off my shoulders have to try to explain each meal. This was gold to me!Services were very accommodating. Room was clean and they restocked the refrigerator/supplies every day. Some things they could revamp: 1) the towel situation. We were given towel cards. If you leave your chair for too long the staff comes along and removes your towel so that another guest could get a chair. Well, now I'm responsible to PAY for a new towel card. If their staff is removing the towels, we shouldn't be charged.2) the chair situation. People get down at the crack of dawn and reserve their chairs for the day. What an effort to find chairs if you decide to sleep in on your vacation. We had a altercation b/c the staff removed someone else's towels (we didn't know) and we claimed the empty chairs. We were there for two hours before the previous people showed up and quite the fight ensued. Not a pleasant way to spend your vacation.3) Reservations for the restaurants. We were a party of 8. We spent almost two hours our first day making reservations for dinner for the week. The process was slow and painful. Then when we dined at each restaurant (excluding the Japanese - it was full) half of the tables were empty. We questioned the need for reservations each time we witnessed the barren rooms.4) Pool Activities. Our kids were not allowed to participate in some of the activities. They were adult only. We couldn't understand why throwing a ball through a board with a hole in it was adult only. Other resorts we stayed at were very child friendly for these types of events. Although I said a bunch of negatives, it was a fun vacation and we enjoyed ourselves very much.
