Our Opinion

A top selling resort that is popular for weddings and honeymoons. Also family oriented with a great kids program. Like most Bahia Principe Resorts, you generally get excellent service. Transat holidays has a representative on site which is convenient. Beach is a bit rocky so make sure you bring your water sandals. Highly recommended. Also check out the sister resorts next door, Grand Bahia Principe Coba and Grand Bahia Principe Tulum.

total relaxation

we visited from 28th june for 2 weeks and would give 4 1/2 out of 5,the hotel grounds are immaculate very well maintained, the room 6424 was very big for the two of us 4 poster bed mini bar[very good]very clean just felt room needs a wee face lift, the whole complex is spotless from pools grounds, restaurants, toilets foyer super clean no stomach bugs like spain this hotel is top notch a lot better than anything spain has offered us previously and not much dear.the thing that really makes this hotel better than others is the superb staff from cleaners to bar staff to bell boys to entertainers a real credit to everyone of them,,the alicarte we could of went every night but just chose 2 of them los corales beside infinity pool nice arlequin was superb you must try it,we had a few issues toilet not flushing properly it was reported and fixed in 30 minutes,,people complained about parasols and sun beds well theres hundreds 50 metres from pool on the beach ,we was at pool everyday at 1030/1100 and always got a sun lounger,,,my wife swam with dolphins in the complex she loved it and its better a lot cheaper to book with hotel before you go it saved us £100,lot of people didn't like bar closing at 11,and entertainment stopped at 1045,poor considering it didn't start to 9,yes there is a night club and sports bar at the hicendia live band til 1130 then night club opens [its ok and does the job]closes at 2,,,but we carts stop running back to hotel at 130overall we really enjoyed this hotel beautiful place, beautiful beach pools but mostly beautiful staff,,a wee mention for karina the entertainer a really nice girl

useFantastic resort.

Where do you start with this resort? From the WOW as you arrive at the lobby (we stayed at the Akumal section) to the WOW as you go through to the pool and beach view the other side of the amazingly grand lobby. staff are super friendly, a special mention must go to Alejandro in the Dolce Vita Italian restaurant, he was exceptionally friendly and very professional. Staying in the Akumal you can use all the facilities and restaurants at the other hotels also. My family and I tried the Italian,French,Brazilian,Meditteranean,Mexican and Gourmet restaurants and they were all excellent with the exception of the Mexican which was let down by the main courses, but salad bar and starters were very good. Excellent pools and you don't even need to leave your sun lounger for a drink as the staff are constantly walking around asking if you want drinks. You can get small shuttle transport between the 4 hotels if you want to but it's a nice walk and not too far if you want a stroll. We stayed in block 59 (we had 3 rooms 5912,5913 and 5921) all 3 rooms were spotlessly clean and very well kept and the air con was brilliant. Also the in room safe is free but i felt everything was very safe anyway. Also in Akumal you get free WIFI 24hrs a day and it is generally available everywhere. If you stay in Coba or Tulum it costs extra. There is loads of wildlife around the resort, which is a bit of an attraction in its self. I have absolutely no faults to pick with this Hotel (resort) at all and would recommend it to anyone (my sister has already booked). If you are thinking of booking, do it and you will not regret it.Thank you to ALL of the staff at the resort. We had a fantastic holiday, sad it's over. Please feel free to ask any questions

Akumel - Best of the bunch

The Akumel is the best hotel on the bahia complex. It's a class above the others. From the lobby to the bars and restaurants and staff. It was our first trip to Mexico and just one thing put the hotel in the shade - no shade. There were just a few umbrellas around the pool areas, which were taken at the crack of dawn. The food was fine, although buffet restaurant could do with the air conditioning being turned up. Had no problem getting booked into the restaurants, all good, apart from the Italian. Poor food but good service.Beach is great. Some stones entering the water,so shoes a good idea. Highlight of holiday swimming with the fishes...wow. Our room was as it said on the tin, and yes there was a smell. But after a while you become nose blind. There is some wildlife but not lots, apart from the iguanas, the drinks are ok not premium, but passable, and the wine is good. Beer no probs. Chocolate martini is awesome. Went to playa del Carmel on the collection - local bus, about4 dollars, but at top speed. Beware of meeting fake waiters there. They claim to know you from the hotel, and try to dupe you into going into their family's shop.Went on trips organised by hotel rather than thomson which were half the price, and well organised. Entertainment at the akumel was good, even if sometimes it was unwittingly provided by the guests. All in all, a happy, safe, and friendly place, with good service, from the time you step into the lobby. Tipping is not essential. But if you're like me, you'll want to show your appreciation for a job well done. I am not a fan of premium guest bands, for a few dollars more, as I believe all guests should receive the same service - and I wasn't disappointed. So than you to the Akumel team, for a wonderful holiday.

Holiday at Akumal

Can't praise this place enough. We stayed in the Adults Only section. Building 83Staff are very pleasant and accommodating. Nothing was any trouble at all.We did have a problem for about two days with the air conditioning but this was the whole building, not just usHad breakfast every day at Los Corales which we enjoyed. Found the staff again to be pleasant and would constantly fill your tea/coffee cup. The food was lovely.Buffet lunches were also very good, went to several of them throughout the complex.Would highly recommend the a la carte restaurants. Our favourites were the Peruvian restaurant Nikkel Washua (sp) on Coba and also Alux on Sian Khan. Dolce Vita and Los Corales were also very good. We did book most at reception area but also booked through the app on our phone.Transport throughout the complex was brilliant although we sometimes found ourselves waiting a while at the end of the night. We spent most of our days in the infinity pool on the adults section of Akumel. It was beautiful and only spoilt by large groups of holidaymakers who tended to be very noisy but this could happen anywhere. The other thing I didn't like here was the fact they allowed alcohol in the pool but also allowed people to smoke in the pool. This was however just a small group of holidaymakers.Overall we found this place to be extremely good and would highly recommend it. Would certainly go again or to another Bahia Principe in another country.

going down hill steadily

I just returned today from Grand Bahia Akumal.I stayed at Tulum last year and thought I'd pay the extra and get a better class of room and service.the rooms are on par with Tulum nothing special there. The food is very repetetive at the buffet and luke warm the majority of the time. The most anoying thing about my experience this year is and disappoinigg aspect of this trip was the the British quest hogging all the sunbeds. They were getting up at 5.00 am in the morning and putting towels on all the sun loungers to reserve them when there are signs up informing people that there was a policy of not reserving sun loungers. Also the sight of lots of middle age men wearing football shirts as to advertise were they are from was a bit disconcerning and reminded me of being in Magaluf or Los Americas in Tenerife as opposed to Mexico ?Also if you are a keen snorkel as I am you are wasting your time here as the beach has a section to swim and snorkel which is roped of and you can only go out about 20 meters and as there is no coral in this roped off area you have lots of people in a small space trying to swim and snorkel which is a waste of time.If you try to venture past the rope line you are greeted with shrill blats of whistles from life guards telling you to come back in or a life guard on a kayak will come out and bring you back in.I will not be returning to Grand Bahia Akumal it's more 3 *** than 5 .The staff work hard and are very friendly and obliging. But the hotel is just not up to 5***** standards
