Our Opinion

A top selling resort that is popular for weddings and honeymoons. Also family oriented with a great kids program. Like most Bahia Principe Resorts, you generally get excellent service. Transat holidays has a representative on site which is convenient. Beach is a bit rocky so make sure you bring your water sandals. Highly recommended. Also check out the sister resorts next door, Grand Bahia Principe Coba and Grand Bahia Principe Tulum.

The Best

Let me start by saying that I travel a ton! I was at Coba in April.l When I went to Coba I thought for the money it was ok. This time for a couple hundred dollars extra I decided to stay here. It was worth every penny!!!!!!!! I loved everything about this place. Service was excellent and location next to beach~ great! Food choices on buffet large and the restaurants had very good food for an all inclusive and trust me I have been to tons. We were a large party and Angela in guest services via email helped me to arrange all my dinner reservations in advance. She was awesome because a lot of other resorts have screwed up and not taken care of our needs or didn't even answer the emails. She was so nice! In fact everyone was so nice and I would not hesitate to book this place again and make it a third time.

What a relaxing holiday!

We spent two weeks at Akumal in AUgust/September 2016. Not having thought to ask for close to ground floor we were initially given the 4th floor with stairs. Once this was changed we were on ground floor and very comfortable. The accommodation was superb. Our first apartment was very spacious with a king bed covered with netting if needed and brilliant bathroom and living area. Once changed we had two double beds which we were initially disappointed with. However once we got a bit of sunburn and a bit of food gastro, the two beds were invaluable. Noone had told me to stay away from fresh salad and I chose to eat it, as the food halls and restaurants were full of amazing food: i was concerned that I'd eat evrythi snd return home the size of a house. Instead, i ate lettuce - don't do it! Other than that, we were absolutely amazed with the whole place. The staff wwere very helpful; the facilities were second to none with many pools onsite as well as a beautiful beach; everything about the place was first class. We were attended to by many staff members: due to not having many Australian guests, they were all very inquisitive about our country. Overall, this site was brilliant. Our whole trip including flights from Manchester, bus transfers from Cancun as well as accommodation and all food and drinks were included. A great deal! And because all was inclsuive, there was no carrying money around and therefore no theft or threat of theft. Brilliant

Trip #19 and Still Going Back

We just finished our 19th vacation at Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal Don Pablo Collection January 3 - January 10th. There are so many reasons why we return to this resort..the staff..the amenities..the beauty. The resort is about an hour south of Cancun but is worth the trip!Staying on the Akumal side of the resort means that you can travel about freely to any part of this very large Gran Bahia Principe resort. Akumal guests have wonderful private beach areas with top-shelf bars. There are now Adults Only seating areas on the beach also. One of the things that stands out to visitors is how spotless the resort is. The main lobby is beautiful with its Mayan charm and huge sculpture in the center. The beaches are cleaned daily and the grounds of the resort are beautifully manicured. The food is fantastic from the snack bars and buffets to the gourmet restaurants! We couldn't believe it has taken us so long to go back to the Alux restaurant in Sian Ka'an which is the Adults Only portion of the resort. The restaurant is in a glass building that feels like it is in the middle of the jungle. Just beautiful and the food was amazing. We had an outstanding team of waiters for our meal. It will definitely be a reservation we will make on our next trip. Our other favorites are Le Gourmet in Coba and Arliquin just outside the main lobby in Akumal. Try the Spanish coffee after dinner made with X'tabentun, an ancient Mayan honey liquor. The presentation when making the coffee is beautiful. We are beach lovers and look forward to relaxing when visiting but there are so many day trips you take from the resort. We have been to Chichen Itza (full day trip) and Tulum (easy half day trip) to visit the ruins. We also have taken many outings on a catamaran called Catamaya which is a family favorite with a fantastic crew. The rooms are showing their age but they are clean and there is a mini bar which is stocked daily. If you need anything else the butler service is great. One of the reasons I stated at the beginning for returning to the resort is the staff. The staff is quick with a smile and an "Hola" and so helpful..even when the language barrier can be an issue. Since we have been to Bahia Principe so many times we have made some very special friends. Priscilla in Public Relations is just amazing and we look forward to seeing her on each trip. We can't thank her enough for so many wonderful memories on our vacations.Another thing we have noticed when visiting with other guests are the number of returning guests. It is not uncommon to hear that people are returning for their 5th or 6th time. So like so many others... Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal is "Our home away from home in Mexico!"

Great experience and location

For our first visit to the Riviera Maya, this resort was a perfect choice. We wanted a beachfront hotel, with great amenities, near the typical tourist sites in the area. Research and recommendations told us that Cancun and Playa del Carmen could be crowded and busy, and that Tulum could be too rustic. Akumal was an ideal place in between, geographically and otherwise. First, our only note of caution: We reserved an oceanfront junior suite, but were disappointed upon check-in with a partial ocean view. There's a difference. The hotel has three categories: superior, deluxe, and oceanfront. There are actually very few oceanfront rooms, so many "oceanfront" rooms are some distance from the beach and can have obstructed views. If that's important to you, as it was to us, confirm your room's exact location when you make your reservation. Buildings 65 and 66 are the ones that are truly oceanfront. After our room location was resolved, we really enjoyed this resort. The landscape is beautiful and well-maintained, the public areas are spacious and beautiful, and the service was always great. Of course, the beach is beautiful too.The location was really convenient for us. The airport is just over an hour away, Coba is one hour, Playa del Carmen is 40 minutes, and Tulum is only 20 minutes. It's easy to get to and from the hotel, but also nice to stay on property some days. This resort is connected with walking paths and trams to three others within the same brand, so you can enjoy the restaurants and amenities at them all. Note that this isn't reciprocal. Guests at Akumal and Sian Ka'an can enjoy all four resorts, but guests at Tulum and Coba are limited to their own. Also note that the names of these resorts should not be confused with actual nearby places - the four resorts are all contiguous. The all-inclusive dining option is great, so if you're dubious about it, don't be. The main buffet restaurant is open for every meal and has great quality and variety. We were impressed with it every day, and especially enjoyed that the buffet dining rooms have table cloths and friendly waiters serving drinks. These nice details elevate the buffet into an actual restaurant and make it quite nice. Beyond that, there are several restaurants for dinner. These are more formal and require reservations, but they're worth it. At the Akumal property, we tried Dolce Vita (Italian), Frutos del Mar (seafood), and Arlequin (French). They were all great, but Arlequin was our favorite. There's some system for reservations - you can get a reservation on-site in advance, with the concierge, or within the hotel's app - all depending on the timing. I never figured it out exactly, but the staff were always helpful so we were able to make reservations for each evening. Definitely check into it as soon as you arrive. If you're into desserts, as I am, you'll find the best ones at these restaurants as opposed to the buffet. The hotel and grounds are incredibly relaxing. Our room was spacious and comfortable with all the typical amenities. The environment, with the jungle meeting the beach, makes for a tropical paradise that the landscapers and beachcombers maintain beautifully. Don't imagine that it's a PGA course though - we saw lots of wildlife, including iguanas, birds, raccoons, and some other cute things kind of like raccoons. The combination of that natural environment within a luxury resort is amazing.

Very Close to perfection

Stayed here for 14 nights from 31st December with my family two adults and two children RoomsWe messaged a head of going having two children needing two rooms that we wanted interconnected rooms on a higher level which is exactly what they gave us,now in all honestly the view from the balcony wasn't that good has we had trees in our faces but we don't spend any time on the balcony so it wasn't a problem for us,main priority was the interconnected room my advice is if you could get rooms 66?? then you'd have a sea view,Our rooms were cleaned daily and we had turn down service every night,We did have a leak in the bathroom after a very heavy downpour which when I called to tell the hotel they immediately off different room which I didn't take up the offer as after a little while it stop leaking,Some slight decor issues i.e. Marks on walls mirrors marked very minor things really.Food Buffet always had plenty of fresh show cooking, at night we went in the ala carts never had a bad one ourselves,Service in the total resort was second to none and they could do enough for you to many to mention I might add I did tip every person that served us because I feel it's a must when having brilliant service anywhere,BeachNice clean beach plenty of chairs never once did we not get chairs ,sea has a few man made barriers to stop waves there's a area where fish come swimming up to you which me and the family enjoyed several times snorkels and underwater camera a must.PoolsCleaned daily plenty of chairs never had the normal towel run in the morning, entertainment in one pool and if wanted some peace the pool near the lobby was tranquil,In my opinion the only things that need slight adjustment is bars need to stay open a bit later as they seem to close at 11pm (there's a 24 snack bar but it's not the same for meeting people)Also if the restaurants were open for dinner as well as tea more people would be able to get in them,Bars should have different beers i.e. Sol or corona might I add they had grey goose vodca which they ran out of some nights.Top and bottom of it I will be going back had really good holiday thank you
