Our Opinion

Great resort for your money. This resort is better for those who are looking for an experience that is different from your usual all-inclusive getaway. The resort is located fairly far from its beach. Guests should be prepared to take a 10 minute shuttle to the resort beach (it is recommended that you leave early to get a nice spot). Great food options and attentive guest services.

Wonderful Vacation!

We loved our resort! The best part was that we had full access to every resort! We spent a lot of time at Akumal, being right on the beach, but definitely appreciated being about to come back to a completely adults only resort. We tried the entertainment one night at Akumal and kids were running around all over the place so we went back to Sian Kaan. I would recommend bringing extra cash to tip all of the people that help make your stay so wonderful. My husband and I were blown away by the men gathering seaweed at the beach everyday! It looked like a very tough job and the resort would not be the same without them!Trolley Transportation- Very easy to use! Drivers were great and it was easy to get to wherever you wanted to go in a timely manner! Mosquitos- Bring bug spray with deet!! When I wore bug spray I was totally fine and had no bites! However, the night we went to Los Corals (Akumal) we forgot to put bug spray on and our legs got eaten up at dinner! The pineapple dessert was totally worth the bites and it was nothing a little Cortisone cream couldn’t fix! You really only need bug spray in the evenings! Beach- Absolutely beautiful! We preferred the adults only beach by the infinity pool.  It was much quieter and better snorkeling than the Playa Beach. Ivan was the bartender at the beach bar and his drinks were excellent! Food/ Restaurants- It's all inclusive so if you eat or drink something you don't like, just get something else!! You could get guacamole at every buffet and the snack bar and it was always FANTASTIC!Buffet: the buffet was always delicious! It was by far our favorite place to eat! The Gala Night (Saturday night) was delicious! We really enjoyed the crab legs! We would eat lunch at the Akumal buffet by the beach and had breakfast and a few dinners at the Sian Kaan buffet. We never left the buffets with an empty stomach!Cenote: We loved the snack bar buffet! Alux: Our favorite restaurant! The food was excellent! I would recommend you try the zucchini soup!Los Corals (Akumal Brazilian): We enjoyed this meal :) we loved the steak and the pineapple dessert was the best thing we ate the whole week! Mikado: The sushi combination and the Omiso soup were both delicious. The rest of our meal was just okay. This is not an adult only restaurant and the family at our table was a bit obnoxious...Flora Del Mar: This meal was okay but nothing special. You get a salad bar and that was the best part by far. My husband had the Whisky Shrimp and the Whisky sauce tasted like straight Whisky and the shrimp were overcooked. Arlington: This was our least favorite meal. Not much to say about it but the flavors didn't seem to work together in the lobster soup and our entrees were quite bland. I had the duck and it was just okay. Drinks- We always loved Ivan's drinks of the day at the beach bar, especially the blackberry margarita!! Many of the bartenders used a dark rum for mojitos, which I found a bit odd, so I always requested Bacardi White Rum and always loved my drinks! Entertainment- We enjoyed the entertainment, especially the acrobats. :) Just remember it's all inclusive so if you eat or drink something you don't like, just get something else!!

Great resort

We loved our stay here, quiet, relaxing, would take shuttle to beach every day, can eat at the snack bar or buffet at the Aqumal, which is much larger with more selection than at Sian Ka'An, we tried just one a la carte, the ALUX, which is fine dining, it was good, but honestly we prefer going to the buffet, had lots of selection and food was great, and we can come and go as we please. The staff were all very friendly, and have to say the entertainment at this resort was exceptional, lots of great talent, the singers, dancers, acrobats, magician, the entertainment staff were wonderful, not pushy, just trying to make it fun for all. We picked this resort because it was for adults only, but the Aqumal seemed more luxurious, the pools nicer than at Sian, next time would stay at either one, the price being the deciding factor. If sitting by the pool in evening, there was some mosquitos, as you're in a tropical resort, beautiful lush jungle like, with lots of birds singing. Just a couple of things that could have been improved. Air Canada has a promo of early check in and late check out, (if available), we arrived at hotel just before noon, hadn't slept all night, asked if our room was ready, mentioned about air Canada promo, they didn't know what I was talking about. Rooms were not ready till 3. If Air Canada has a promo going on, maybe they should inform the staff. Our check out time was 5 a.m., so for guests checking out so early, I think we should get an early check in. Also, would have been nice to have some coffee and maybe some pastries in lobby before leaving for airport. They have a section in lobby set up for coffee, tea, etc. during day, was not open at 5 am, (when we would have used it), also, we never used room service, the only time we would have used it would be before checking out, but didn't open till 7. These are just a couple of things that would have improved our stay, early check in and something to eat before leaving. I know the snack bar is open 24 hours, but not what I would like at 5 am. Over all, we had a wonderful week here, and might return someday.

Enjoyable Week

Stayed the week of July 14-21. Check in - Efficient, we had requested a room on a higher floor, was given one the lower floor at check-in, but it was changed the following day without issue. Room: Enough space, no complaints of cleanliness, turn down service at night. Not sure of the pillow menu! Order the scents, two nights - does make the room smell nice. Saw the butler only once. The noise in the activity pool can be loud if you want to take a nap during the day. Food/drinks: The food is great at the buffet. They have quite a selection. Enjoyed the seafood. Had dinner at Alux highly recommend it. The staff was amazing. Frutas del mare - okay. Enjoyed the drinks selection at the resort, the range of tequila was very decent. Try the michelada and agavero tequila(cheap at Walmart if you want to buy one to bring back home). A shout out the following staff; Constantino at the buffet, Victor at Alux, and Alberto at the snack bar. Excellent customer service!Transportation: Found the trolley system to be very efficient and also like the option of having access to the other hotels. We used the collectivo to Playa, that's the way to go. Don't pay for a taxi.Beach: We swam at the Akumal beach (adult only), found the section for Sian Kaan extremely crowded. Lots of fishes in the beach! Tours: Used a taxi, for 4 of us the cost was approx $120 us for the day, included the Tulum ruins, cenote(tortuga - diamond the rough, jose our 12 your old guide was too cute and full of stories) and tulum town. In total including lunch(El Pollo Bronco - great, must try) and entrance fee it worked out to be about US $70.00 per person.Air transat arrange for a "free" trip to jewelry factory, tequila factor and playa del carmen. Beware Matis jewelry, mark up in really high. If you going to buy something, have a price and don't budge, or don't buy. Do not buy the Freelook watches (my aunt learned the hard way). Do take the free trip, gives you a chance to see if you like playa del carmen, if you have time, take the collectivo another day. If you are a 5th avenue shopper, great, if you are cheap like me, then shop on Juarez, and walmart for souvenirs (just check to make sure it's made in mexico, not China, at least at walmart you can check, not sure at the Hacienda if you can and it's way overpriced.Improvements: Put some fans in the lobby. There is no other place to relax and have drinks, so make it comfortable. The only place to cool down is in your room. The restaurants are also quite warm. Internet connectivity could be improved and the need to re-login everyday a bit a of nuisance.

A little slice of paradise!

We have just returned from an excellent two week holiday in Sian Ka'an and I simply cannot praise the staff and location enough. From the moment we arrived to the very welcome cool drinks and wet towels to the day we left. A big shout out and thank you to Andres, he is a credit to your business, so helpful and friendly, always ready to answer any queries we had with a smile. Another person worthy of a mention is Bernardo in the Alux restaurant (aka Tom Cruise) such a pleasant waiter. Anabel in the buffet was a joy to see every morning, always smiling to greet you and show you to your seat. We miss you all so much. Our room was on the ground floor, and yes there were bugs, and yes we got bitten by mosquitoes- but hey it's rainy season in Mexico- what else could you expect? The air conditioning kept us cool and the bed was huge, comfortable and changed every day. The food in every single restaurant was delicious and plentiful, there was a huge selection always replenished and displayed well. There was no shortage of loungers around the pool and plenty of shade when you needed to get out of the sun. We visited all the other resorts (an easy trip by frequent shuttle trams) they each have their own vibe going on and the beach is beautiful with a gentle breeze from the ocean. At no time did we get bored of our surroundings and it was nice to have a quieter haven away from the hustle and bustle. This was the most relaxing place we have ever stayed in and have already booked to return next year!
