Our Opinion

The Now Sapphire is definitely a great resort which is worth paying extra for. All luxury suites, excellent service, white sand beach and a large, amazing pool area. The beach does tend to collect a bit of seaweed, but the staff clean it up daily, a minor annoyance. Transfers to Playa del Carmen are included. Sister resort to the Now Jade Riviera Cancun.

Good times

Had a great time at this resort, we were in the preferred club and really enjoyed some of the extras, like the private adult pool and the therapy spa. Some of the people we would like to thank, that made our stay that much more enjoyable are Sergio, and Raul at the adult pool. Deiago and Edgar at the Market Buffet for lunch, and Lemmie at the Lounge at night. At times , thou,we did find that they were understaffed in some of the restaurants . This resort seems like they cater more to weddings at times than the general guests, preferred or not.

Let Down by the VIP Sales Team

A superb resort where we were made to feel very welcome from the minute we stepped out of the taxi. We had upgraded to the preferred club so were whisked away to the separate lounge to check in. Drinks were quickly provided and check in was quick and easy. The only slight negative was someone from the VIP sales team trying to give us a pitch. To be fair when we said we were really tired and just wanted to get to our room she let it go but more on this later! The room was half over looking the gardens and half over the sea and was great. Loads of room and a huge bed. We tried to un-pack but there was only 3-4 hangers! One phone call and within 10 minutes we had loads delivered. We spent most of the time at the quieter pool and as a preferred club member you can reserve Bali beds which is well worth it. Here we were very well looked after by Sergio who was just superb. I cannot praise him enough. His service was outstanding and along with Vincente and Raoul they kept drinks topped up and us well looked after. The restaurants were excellent- our favourite was the Japanese. They cook the food in front of you and it was superb. I cant say too much about the entertainment as we didn't see much of it. It started and finished whilst we were at dinner most nights. The bar was very lively in the evening and again there are lots of staff to keep your drinks topped up. There are loads of weddings here. Some days as many as 3. This means there are large groups which at times means it gets very noisy especially in the restaurants and the bars. This didn't worry us to much mind. At times it was very entertaining. We used the Spa twice which was very good. It is really expensive though. We only used it after getting some vouchers. There is no way I would pay these prices anywhere in the UK. There is also a priest who visits to say Mass on Sunday morning. I just wish the staff would have some respect during the service instead of coming in and out and making plenty of noise. The only down side to the holiday came on the last day. We finally agreed (I don't know why) to let the VIP sales team talk to us. Its 1.5hours I will never get back and they want you to sign there and then. No opportunity to take away the literature and think about it, not much time to look at the options and when you then say no there are 4 Supervisors who then have to talk to you before you leave. Also when you say no the atmosphere changes. The smiles go and its almost hostile with the some dubious tactics in use. Overall a good holiday. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. If you do go do not go to the sales talk. I wont be going back because of this as it left a really bad taste and I doubt I would use any of there other hotels either. Shame as the rest of the staff here deserve better!

Nice Girl Trip

My friend and I stayed here for a long weekend in October...it was clean and for an all inclusive the food was ok to good. The pool is important to me and this one was large enough with enough chairs for both sun and shade. The location is a little remote for me as i like to wander around shops and try local restaurants but i knew that when booking. The grounds were nice, lots of water features, nice large covered lobby for the bar and several restaurants that were good.

Family thanksgiving

Our extended family spent Thanksgiving weekend at the Now Sapphire. 3 families, 12 total. All of us upgraded to Preferred rooms.Arrival 15 minute drive from the Cancun airport and the resort is adjacent to the Excellence Riviera Cancun. At the Sapphire entrance gate, the security guard presented us with a Mexican candy treat in honor of our 22nd anniversary. Great first impression.Check inWe were escorted to a conference room which was purposed as the Preferred Lounge and registration desk. After check in, we were passed on to another rep who gave a timeshare pitch which we politely declined without further hassle.RoomOur room was on the top floor (3rd) of building #2. Building 1 is closest to the main pool, dining and front desk. Buildings 1 to 6 line the beach and i believe these are the Preferred rooms. Building 6 is closest to the gym. The front door was decorated with a banner indicating our anniversary. Inside, our room was clean, comfortable and luxurious. The only minor issue was with the shower head that could not stay in place until I jammed a face towel to keep it at a proper height. Others in the party has issues with their AC. StaffWith only a couple of exceptions, the entire staff exhibited the friendly hospitality that we are accustomed to at AI resorts; most notably in the Market Cafe for breakfast and at the beach. I had lost my bluetooth headphones before breakfast one day, they were found and stored by Security until I claimed themBeachCould be narrow during high tide. You can walk south 2.5 miles into Puerto Morelos, but only 1.5 miles north due to lack of beach. Each wave brings in seaweed, but it constantly raked throughout the day. No towel cards required. PoolsThere is a main pool with a swim bar and an adults only pool that is reserved for Preferred guests only. We preferred the latter for the quiet environment that is until a group from the main pool showed up one day and raised the noise level.GymOpens officially at 7 am, but wish it opened at 6 am. 3 treadmills, 2 ellipticals all with great view of beach and ocean. Watched the sunrise in gym each day. There were also a couple of stationary bikes and weight machine.SpaWe took advantage of the complementary hydro therapy session. The facility can handle 6 to 8 guests comfortably. We broke up into groups of 4 and enjoyed the spa, however at one point a group of 20 was allowed to enter all at once. This should have prevented at the spa's front desk. DiningOur favorites for dinner were the French, Asian and Mediterranean restaurants in that order. The CoCo Cafe was also a pleasant surprise, serving coffee, pastries and small sandwiches on the go. Most of the ours meals served at the Blue Water grill were cold. Dinner disappointments:* Inability or unwillingness to seat a party of 12. We required to breakup into groups and dine separately.* Long wait times for restaurants, but empty tables everywhere. Our guess was a shortage of wait or kitchen staff? This was most obvious at the Fresco where there service was very slow. * No availability during our entire 5 night stay for a Hibachi table. We attempted to make reservations on our first morning. Summary If not for our dining experiences, I would recommend the Now Sapphire. With other resorts along the Rivera Maya that we have yet to experience, the Sapphire did not merit a return visit.
