Our Opinion

A medium sized all inclusive resort in a good beach front location close to Playa del Carmen. At the Ocean Maya you will find great service, excellent food and lush grounds covered in tropical flowers and foliage. The beach is nice white sand but there is a barricade to protect from beach erosion, this may be removed in the future. One of the best 4 star values in Riviera Maya.

Top notch again!

Just returned from an 11 night break in this wonderful hotel. This is our 5th time and it just keeps getting better. The food once again fantastic, but all credit goes to the invaluable staff. Each and every one of them. They are the first and foremost reason we return time after time. Nothing is too much trouble in whatever they do. It is amazing to us that they remember us as soon as they see us. To be treated with such sincerity is just gorgeous. We are so spoiled by yievonetti wherever she may be working and Oscar is the most outstanding personality in the restaurants. He makes sure we are happy each and every meal he is present at. He told us to make sure to ask for anything as making us happy is what he is there for! This mantra is practised throughout the resort. H10 really should be very proud of all of their staff as they all are incredible. Once again our thanks go to all concerned and can't wait to return next year. It always feels like we come home when we arrive.Plenty of time to replenish the red label stocks Tiger and Oli !!Our sincerest best wishesThe whiskey man and his wife

Excellent Vacation! Excellent Service!

My Fiance and I had such an amazing trip! Thanks to Marisa Rios "manager on duty"!!!! Only a few times in life do you receive phenomenal service...my fiance and I LOVE Marisa. She knew exactly where to send us to have fun, as well as, what we should do to fill our day. You really only need the beach and a drink to enjoy the beautiful accommodations but it helps to have someone who points you in the RIGHT direction. The resort was great. We enjoyed our massages at the spa and lounging by the pool. The food was also good. They even have a nice gym to get a quick workout. Loved our stay and will be back. Thank you Ocean Maya Royale and THANK YOU Marisa!!!!

Excellent resort

From the moment we arrived at this resort we were treated like special guests from checking in to being escorted to our room. The staff all very friendly and helpful even the gardeners would greet you when they passed. The restaurants all very clean serving a good variety of international food together with dishes of local interest again excellent service. Both the pool and beach areas immaculate not a sign of anything untidy even the sand was raked throughout the day. This is a five star resort that the hotel company H10 should be proud of, we will definitely return.

Good Quality 4 Star Resort

We stayed here for a week in November 2017. Overall it is a typical 4-star Mexican all inclusive resort – based on our experience staying at maybe 20 different resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean over the years. The main reason we chose this resort is it is adults only (18+) – my wife works at a school so wanted to get away from the kids! :)Good things:The staff at this resort are generally very friendly and cheerful, always ready to help. (Shout out to Vicente and Francesco in the main buffet restaurant who gave us great service). We would generally provide modest tips for service, but although it was definitely appreciated it didn’t make a huge difference to most employees. The food at the a la carte restaurants was generally pretty good with a variety of options. The main buffet restaurant was open every night (different theme each night) and also had a very good wide selection of items – better than some buffets we have experienced at other hotels in the past. The house wine at all restaurants is pretty good and drinkable – again, unlike what we experienced at a few other resorts in the past where the house wine was terrible. Similarly the regular and amber beer is pretty good. Given it was low season, the (after-dinner) shows each evening were not bad. Again, much better than we have seen at other resorts during the off-season.Not so good things / areas for improvement:We knew when we booked this resort that it didn’t have much of a beach – mainly a boardwalk with concrete pier across most of the property. There is a long stretch of beach to the south of the property that you can walk along (passes the Secrets resort among others) but nothing in front of the resort if that is important to you.We found the waiter service on beach area was not great. Some days was good, others we didn’t see a server all day. We were not in the “Privilege” area, where the service was much better. And similar to comment above, tipping didn’t seem to make a difference. Also, even during low season you have to get out pretty early to get a seat on the beach, especially if you want shade. The resort really needs to add more seats / umbrellas as they were in short supply all the time. The Gym / exercise room at this resort is very small and pretty dated (2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, etc.). Was pretty hard to get a machine each day and not many free weights or benches to go around. If this is important to you this is probably not the best resort to pick. The resort is also fairly remote so unlike other resorts that may be in town on the main drag, it is difficult to go for a long walk / jog outside of the resort (apart from running down the shoulder of the highway…). Most of the restaurants do offer a few vegetarian options, but they tend to be fairly limited (but at least better than just bread and salad!). The buffet restaurant had tons of selection if you want less meat.

Good Vacation

We were a group of 12 who visited OMR in the middle of October and stayed for a week. We all are in out late 40's and early 50's and went there to relax and enjoy the beautiful nature. This was our first time going to adults only resort. The weather wasn't so good at the beginning, it rained a few days in a row. We were able to go to the spa and had a couple's massage during this time. Once the weather got better, we were able to go to the beach and relax on the sun. The beach was nice and clean, the water was wasn't that great. It was brown and stinky because of all the seaweeds. We mainly stayed in the pool and went in the sea a few times. We also had daily walks on the beach, we went a few times to the lagoon that is located north of the hotel and we also walked south to the Fairmont Mayakoba twice, the beach was better there. We were given a room upgrade; our room was in building 12 and we had an ocean view. The room was nice and spacious, it was cleaned daily. The food was average, there was something for everyone. We liked the Mexican restaurant and dined there twice. We also ate once at the Japanese restaurant and once at the Blue Moon, the food was ok, but we were not impressed. Overall it was a nice vacation, but I would not return because of the location and the beach. If you go to Mexico because of the beach, sun and sea, find a better location. We visited the sister hotel Ocean Coral and Turquesa last year and I can say that it was much better in regard to food, staff, and beach.
