Our Opinion

A medium sized all inclusive resort in a good beach front location close to Playa del Carmen. At the Ocean Maya you will find great service, excellent food and lush grounds covered in tropical flowers and foliage. The beach is nice white sand but there is a barricade to protect from beach erosion, this may be removed in the future. One of the best 4 star values in Riviera Maya.

Vacation ☀️

My friends and I were escaping the winter and decided to go to Playa del Carmen for a quick getaway vacation ! It was also a great occasion to celebrate more than a decade of friendship . We booked at ocean maya royale thinking it would be just another all inclusive . We were pleasantly surprised and very pleased with our stay ! The place is great ! Location is not too far from airport ( 28-45 minutes depending on traffic ) ,and conveniently close to Cancun and Tulum! Although it seemed to be for older groups of people and couples , the staff there really makes it come to life ! They were seriously fantastic : -Papi Hamlet ( absolutely brilliant! Energetic , kind and funny , he makes sure to involve everyone in all activities . He is a man of many talents : He speaks at least three languages , has a great voice and is a wonderful MC. -Octavio is superb , he will teach you how to make guacamole , dance Zumba and play water sports ! - Scarlett is super friendly, and super sweet . She makes sure everyone is having a great time ! - Pamela may be pregnant but she is definitely putting 100% out there ! She’s funny and keeps it real ! Things to do :- coco bongo : we got tickets from Luis ( great guy ! He will make sure to take you there , all the way to your own table before leaving - transportation to and from coco bongo included ). It is a little on the expensive side but OH SO WORTH it ! It lasts till 3:00 am . I thought for sure my friends and I will get tired and would want to leave early , but we actually made it ! The music is awesome ! The shows are incredible and the performers are incredibly talented ! Las Vegas should take notes on how through parties like that !!! - catamaran ride : make sure to RSVP from Margarita ! She’s an incredibly sweet woman and she works reallllllly hard !!!we had a bus take us from our hotel to Cancun to take the catamaran to Isla Mujeres , open bar and open buffet included . The food was mediocre to be honest , but the ride was totally worth it ! I we got to snorkel and it was pretty fun . - take a day trip to Tulum ! Trust me on this one , it’s fabulous ! posada margarita is excellent . This is the second time I go there and it does not disappoint

Trip with friends

The hotel is nice and clean. The staff is very nice and accommodating. You will be approached on many occasions for “offers and activities” which can be overwhelming. Mostly couples and middle aged folks stay there. The entertainment staff, Hamlet, Octavio, Scarlet, Alexis and Pamela are the life of this hotel. They are full of energy and great to be around. If it weren’t for them, it would not be a place where young people can be. Thanks for all the fun!

Away from the snow!!

Lovely winter break from Michigan snow. Great company of 5 other ladies and myself to the sunny warm clime from Lansing, Michigan! Great food, fun entertainment and made new friends as well!! Courteous and friendly staff.

One of our favorite resorts yet

The good include the rooms, the property, the pools, the restaurants and by FAR the entertainment staff!!! The only thing that was not absolutely perfect compared to other locations we have been to was the actual beach itself. That was no big deal considering the location is so close to snorkeling, diving and fishing excursions that it didn't matter. The pools, pool bar and entertainment staff make you want to spend all your time there anyway. We traveled in a 5 person group this trip and met a couple new friends. Hamlet, Octiavio, Stella and Alexis from the entertainment staff were absolute highlights of our trip and helped us create so many fun memories. The pool staff and bartenders including Miguel and Francisco were great as well. We normally try different resorts when we travel but think we will be back to Ocean Maya again soon.

Caribbean Mexico

First time to this part of Mexico and we were looking for some warm sun, following a cold winter in UK. Had been checking weather before arrival and it didn't look good, with rain forecast. Arrived at Cancun airport and it was raining!Coach to resort, and rain had stopped, but was warm.Checked in to hotel, and was taken to room in a golf buggy (good, as paths around resort were pretty flooded). Room was large and well equipped, with queen sized bed, sofa and chair and plenty of wardrobe space, plus drawer space. Separate bathroom with walk-in shower.Arriving in evening when dark, so we didn't really see the resort when walking back through floods to get to restaurant.Next day it was sunny. Wow, how different it looked. Beautiful gardens with nice little touches (photo opportunities) scattered around. We also saw plenty of wildlife (coati's, deer and iguana's)On to the hotel itself. We tried all of the 5 restaurants. The Mediterranean one was our favourite, partly because it was overlooking the sea and the food was very good, although not huge portions. We enjoyed the Asian Teppanyaki, but once you have seen one, they tend to be very similar. Blue Moon was also very good.We eat at the Mexican once, which was good, but we thought the weakest of them all, however in hindsight, we picked the wrong dishes. The main buffet was excellent. Plenty of choice and good variation on each evening (note they have a weekly rota, so you get the same options if going for more than one week). The bars were well stocked, with freshly made cocktails, which were excellent. The bar staff were also excellent, with quick service. At this point, it is worth pointing out that the staff here are exceptional. Always a Hola if passing one around the resort, and they all seem to be smiling and enjoying themselves. They go out of their way to help you out if they can.Entertainment was good. Daytime events were well planned around the pools, with ad-hoc events (grill and beer fest, live music by pool etc). Evening entertainment was varied, and mostly outside acts and not the entertainment team doing the entertainment. The beach. Whilst we were there, there was some work being done to the boardwalk in front of the sea, which caused some noise, but this has now been completed. There are plenty of sunbeds on beach as well as around pool. The best ones were snapped up with towels (supplied) early on, but if you arrived after lunch, you could still find one, but maybe without a parasol. There are good beaches both left and right out of the hotel, although they may be clear one day, but a good covering of seaweed by the sea the next. It seemed to depend on the wind.Back to the weather. After the concerns on rain and the rain on arrival, we saw around 10 minutes of rain the whole 2 weeks. Mainly it was sunny and in the 80's, with lows in late 60 to 70's at night.Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our vacation here and will certainly be back some day.
