Our Opinion

The Paradisus la Perla is a great adults-only resort that boasts amazing views. Situated within the corners of Playa del Carmen's resort strip, the resort possesses some of the best views of the beach. There are also plenty of restaurant options available, staffed with attentive and helpful staff and serving one of a kind cuisine that is beyond the usual resort dining experience. There are plenty of swim-up suites available within the resort. This is a perfect destination for couples, weddings, and honeymoons.

A Truly Stunning Vacation!

My fiancé and I are writing this review having left the hotel less than 2 days ago. What can we say? A lot! Which is why we want to provide you firstly with scores by category we experienced, and a more detailed version of our trip below thatSummary:- This was a truly incredible vacation and the best one my fiancé and I have ever had. We are honestly missing it so much! We have never felt more relaxed during and after a holiday!Category ScoresService- 10/10 – Fabulous service from the restaurant waiters, pool staff, and hosts.Food- 9.8/10 – Exceeded our expectations, this hotel is all about the food!Pool- 10/10 – Royal Service pool was calm, serene, and heated!Room- 10/10 – Large, fresh, divine bed, and great air con.Royal Service- 10/10 – Well worth the extra moneyBeach- 9/10 – Romantic, white sand, a bit of seaweed but not a problem!Detailed Review:-Service-This is the part which we actually miss the most. Everyone from the Royal Service Lobby through to the Towel Staff were incredibly professional, hardworking, courteous, and pro-active to ensure that our experience could not be bettered. We want to mention a few members of staff who particularly excelled and made our vacation truly special. We believe the hotel should give them special recognition:Alfredo and Inocencio who are the Royal Service pool waiters were absolutely fantastic. They were friendly, bubbly, and I miss them! They made Jemma and I feel so welcome and always worked with a smile, tirelessly walking miles and miles each day, back and forth getting any drink we wanted and bringing it to our sunbed. Marcos at the Royal Service pool bar was very welcoming, smiley, and made us laugh always! Angelica, the La Palapa hostess was polite and courteous, and was always professional. Jeronimo was our favourite waiter at La Palapa. He did everything to make our experience as good as possible and always had a smile on his face. We requested him to be our waiter a few times because of this.Brayan, Luis and Rene who work on the Towel Service section were all friendly, very very hard working, and most importantly, pro-active. They did not simply sit and wait for people to swap towels. They would regularly check that we had all we needed on the sun beds and would see if we were struggling to wipe up the water (on the odd times it rained) and come and help. What fantastic service! We were very impressed with them. Augusto, our waiter at Passion restaurant, was so accommodating, pleasant and made us smile. I have written a separate review about Passion and included him in that.Alexander (who we will be mentioning again in detail in the Royal Service section), who we could never forget, was our Butler and made our stay truly special. -Food-Ok, maybe this is the part I miss the most! We were both slightly apprehensive about all-inclusive resorts, because we weren’t yet convinced the food would be top quality as we are real foodies, but Paradisus La Perla quickly dispelled these fears! The food exceeded our expectations so much. We are going to detail our experience of every restaurant we went to, in descending order of our favourites:1. Passion – This is the restaurant we went to on the night of our engagement and it is the most memorable dinner we have ever had. I have got to stress that it is worth every extra penny you spend in here. For such an incredible restaurant it is very good value. It cost about $90 per person for the tasting menu (11 courses including the Amuse-bouches!) and I have written a separate review on the specific Trip Advisor page.2. La Palapa – This is a Royal Service exclusive restaurant, and we went here for every breakfast and most lunches. It is open air under a palapa (thatched roof) and has a very unique, calming atmosphere. The service is exceptional but the food is just divine. The (obvious) beauty of having La Palapa as an option for breakfast and lunch as opposed to the buffets is that the food is cooked to order, from fresh fruit smoothies to carrot cake pancakes (yum!!). I loved the Belgian waffles and goats cheese and Canadian ham bagel as well. Jemma loved the salmon and eggs! For lunch, the most popular dish for Jemma was the Grouper, a very tasty, meaty fish which was cooked to perfection! We tried many dishes and loved all of them (the burger was fantastic, and being an ex burger blogger I wasn’t convinced it would be!).3. Fuego, the Latin fusion restaurant – Wow. The hotel has clearly invested in good chefs and good produce. The slow cooked octopus starter was melt in your mouth and the rack of lamb main was absolutely incredible. Jemma had the tuna as her main dish and can ‘not stop thinking about it.’ The desserts were the biggest surprise for us. The crème brûlée was divine, and the raspberry mille-feuille style dessert was so light and DELICIOUS!4. Bana, the Asian fusions restaurant. There are two offerings here, the a la carte Fusion and also Teppanyaki. Both nights were fabulous, but for entertainment value the Teppanyaki (Hibachi as some people refer to it as) night wins. The food was not only tender and tasty, but the chef had superb knife skills. Make sure you go to the Teppanyaki night!5. The Grill, a steak restaurant. We had read mixed reviews about the Grill but the dinner offering was fantastic. We couldn’t believe the quality of the steaks (particularly the rib-eye and skirt steak) and delicious corn on the cob (Jemma’s favourite!)6. Mole, the Mexican restaurant was also very good. The guacamole was out of this world and the ceviche’s were delicious7. Vento, the Mediterranean restaurant was our least favourite and we don’t recommend this one. The starters were poor (the feta and haloumi cheese did not taste right (I think they were maybe substitutes)) which is why I gave 9.8/10 for food in the summary!- Pool- We used the Royal Service heated pool which was so calm and relaxing! There were multiple Bali beds you can use, as well as sun loungers with comfy cushions, and when we got hot, we had a rest in the cabanas which were so comfortable! You don’t need to get up at the crack of dawn to get a bed (it tends to get busy from 9:30am) which we liked (although we did get up early to make the most of the holiday!). The pool bar is great and we had plenty of their tasty cocktails. They don’t scrimp on the booze and the bar staff know what they are doing!- Room-The room felt so fresh because it was so large! We were really impressed with how comfortable the bed was (and how large it was!), and enjoyed the balcony Jacuzzi (for Royal Service and Club Melia guests only)! There are two rainfall showers and a huge bath tub which is very romantic! You also get Mugler shower products with Royal Service which smelt great!- Royal Service - We stayed in the Royal Service section which is well worth the extra money (through your travel agent not a late upgrade at the hotel) and an incredible experience, particularly the private heated pool, private restaurant La Palapa (INCREDIBLE à la carte breakfasts and lunches), the air conditioned lounge with nibbles from breakfast to bedtime and top shelf liquor, and of course, the Butler service which really does take all stresses and strains away!Alexander was our Butler and from start to finish he attended to our every need, without being too pushy. He was very good at ‘leaving us to it’. We loved the little surprises he left us at the end of each day, including champagne and strawberries, bubble bath, aromatherapy (which he did multiple times are our request) and the jacuzzi preparation at the end of one of the days. He was also able to iron clothes for us on request, and booked all of our restaurants (no issues with this at all) we required. Alex was very kind to us when Jemma was poorly one day, doing everything he could to help her to get better. We would thoroughly recommend Alex should you choose Royal Service (you must!).-Beach-We thoroughly enjoyed the beach, and whilst there is some seaweed that washes up on shore (the staff do their best to clean it up) we don’t feel it ruins the beach experience. The sand is white and there are numerous areas to swim which are not rocky (to the right of the Royal Service beach). There are also some activities such as kayaking, sailing and jet skis (extra charge) available.-Additional Info-1. We read some reviews that the La Perla side of the resort is not truly Adults Only. We disagree with this, the only occasions we saw children was when we entered the child side (Esmeralda) of the resort.2. Bring bug spray if you tend to get bitten. Whilst we didn’t get bitten too much, it is worth bringing it because you may get bitten now and again.3. Tipping. We did tip reasonably frequently, particularly the pool waiters, but no member of staff makes you feel obliged to do it and the level of service you receive is not dependent on it. It is not our place to tell you to tip (unlike other reviews we have read!!) or not, you do what you feel is right, as technically tipping is included in your hotel rate!4. We do recommend you go on a day trip at least one day (despite the amazing all inclusive experience), as Mexico is a wonderful place and full of history! We went to Tulum and Coba on a one day trip which was an experience we will never forget.Thank you Paradisus for a wonderful holiday. Nick and Jemma

Best girls trip!!!

We just got back from visiting Paradisus and I can't say enough about it! I'm big on reading reviews, and I have no idea how anyone could give this less than 5 stars. We were only there for 4 nights and got so lucky on the weather!!! We went to the pool every day (one of us woke up early to reserve some seats and it worked out great). We walked the beach once but it was a little more secluded. We had amazing service at the pool by Fernando and Manuel and met some fun people! The club sandwich there was also one of our favorites. For dinners, we did Mole, the ibana hibachi, Ibana Sushi and el Fuego. The hibachi and Fuego were by far our favorites! Mole was okay and shared the restaurant with the family side. The sushi was okay too but we also probably should have ate something more substantial. During hibachi we were pleasantly surprised to get chicken, steak, and shrimp! And the Salmon and Creme brûlée from el Fuego were both to die for!!! We had a late lunch one day at Rodizio and I would have liked to try dinner there, but we never made it.At night we checked out a few bars, Diego's expresso martini from the M bar was my favorite!!! And we always made it back to the Red Lounge for either Karaoke or dancing with a DJ!! Our room was a 2 bedroom master suite overlooking the pool and it was HUGE for 4 girls!!! I would 100% go back again!!!

Great time!

Such an amazing vacation! Everyone working at the hotel made our trip very enjoyable! One notable experience we had was at the South Bar. Our waitress Mayra was very knowledgeable not only about the cigars offered at the hotel but also had a great deal of knowledge and fun facts about cigars and alcohol in general. She took time to talk to us and helped us find a taqueria for lunch.

Great resort!

My wife and I are experienced travelers in the all-inclusive scene, but this resort differentiates itself with superior service and amenities. Sergio at the front desk was a pleasure to deal with and gave us a little extra for our anniversary! I would highly recommend this destination for anyone looking for a great all-inclusive adult only vacation.

Paradisus la perla

My daughter and I stayed here and payed extra for the Royal Service. We really enjoyed how well we were taken care of by Alejandro and Hector. They would send us daily texts to make sure everything was going ok. Beautiful resort with excellent restaurants to choose from. You need to be sure and make reservations for dinner the day you arrive for all the nights you are there.
