Our Opinion

The Paradisus la Perla is a great adults-only resort that boasts amazing views. Situated within the corners of Playa del Carmen's resort strip, the resort possesses some of the best views of the beach. There are also plenty of restaurant options available, staffed with attentive and helpful staff and serving one of a kind cuisine that is beyond the usual resort dining experience. There are plenty of swim-up suites available within the resort. This is a perfect destination for couples, weddings, and honeymoons.

Very relaxing and romantic

My husband and I stayed here for our 10-year anniversary. It was our first resort experience - We did the royal service and it was worth it. Our butler made our dinner reservations, found us good seats by the pool and even surprised us with little romantic touches in the hotel room when we would return in the evening (best part!). We loved the private royal service pool - it was quiet and calm compared to the other. The only down side to our visit was that we both got really sick and it was hard to stop thinking about the extreme poverty just outside the resort walls. You would think giant resorts would support the local community but they don't.

Lot of Potential but too lack of standards not luxury 5 Standard

Don't get me wrong this Hotel is good, for some people very good maybe even excellent but once you have experience some 5 star Resorts in Asia where the attention to detail is extreme and some of my stay were close to perfection, Paradisus fell short big time.Location wise is very good and the beach is very good, especially if you compare with some hotels closer to Playa del Carmen. One day we walked to Playa del Carmen by the sea and were very please our hotel have a very calm and relaxing beach while other hotels are so big that the beachfront is extremely crowed to fit all the sunbeds not to mention the loud music that makes it impossible to listen to the sea.Rooms are big and very comfortable with great balconies.Food is good in some restaurants like the "Fuego" but the Mexican restaurant "Mole" even though was not bad was too bland for me. That was actually the impression I had of all the food and drinks. It was like the made everything mild not to upset more sensitive tastes. Margaritas were always too week with no flavour. Only when I asked to bartenders to make a real margarita with more lemon and tequila it tasted better. The same with food, some dishes said they were spicy but I barely felt any heat at all, and I'm not a person that likes spicy food. I had already been in Mexico a week before arriving in Paradisus and had eaten so many Mexican food it the food missed power and taste. If it is your first time in Mexico you will liked for sure but if you eat around in Mexico before you will fell a bit disappointed.Pool area is good and has activities and music during the afternoon, but not so high that you can't rest. You can listen to music in the beach but very far way so you can relax and if stay indoors rooms have good noise insulation.Staff is very attentive and friendly. But the there were thing that I really didn't like and show a bite of lack of standards. First of all is the "Adult Only" I'm sorry but If you book a hotel that advertises "Adult Only" you expect Adults only right??? I love kids but sometimes you fell like a escape for some couples romance. The problem is La Perla (adults only) and Esmeralda (family) are the same hotel and you can walk in both areas without anyone saying anything to you so at night there was many kids, toddlers and teenagers in La Perla areas like restaurants and lounges. For me this misleading advertising. If you don't enforce the Adults only policy then just don't sell La Perla like Adults only.Other thing I didn't liked was the dress code. Seriously why do you put dress codes if then guest can show for dinner dressed anyway they like? For example, restaurant "Fuego" says Elegant Resort, so me and my wife dressed accordingly only to see guest arriving in t-shorts, shorts and havainas (things that are not permitted by them inclusive written not permitted in there dress code). It was almost like they just have comed from the beach. We felt like idiots because we were overdressed. Or remove the dress codes or enforce them. Anyway in my opinion and being a head chef of a fine dine restaurant, havainas and boardshorts should never be permitted in a fine dine restaurant being in a beach resort or in a city.Other thing that really annoyed me was having to book table at restaurant for the whole stay as soon as you arrive. You don't have to but you end up having to go for diner in whatever is left, being it probably the buffet restaurant. I understand the need for booking a table but having to stress about it in your vacation and having to choose before you even try some of them is not what I call relaying. Just came from a holidays in Vietnam where we stayed in a 5 star resort where we were encouraged to book table for dinner but on the day and you didn't even had to book a time. You booked a table and you could come whenever you want. That is what I call relaxing. And to make it worst you can only do it at some specified desks that most of the time had no one or were busy. Of course if you pay extra for the Royal Service you have preference treatment and can book table wherever you want, having tables reserve exclusive for royal service guests even if they aren't booked. So there goes the whole ideia that all your guest are important, they are just some are much more important than others.Like I said good hotel with lots of potential but not luxury 5 star standards, you can find much better around, and for that reason I will not come back

December honeymoon

My husband and I came to this resort to celebrate our honeymoon. All the employees were VERY attentive and so nice and helpful with everything and anything we needed! There were just a few minor things that we had some comments on. #1. When we First got to the resort, the person who was showing us around ended up booking us a breakfast/meeting with someone on the 2nd day of us being there and he indicated it was just to see how our experience is going and to see if we had any suggestions for them...well turns out it was really basically a “Rewards membership” sales pitch meeting..was slightly awkward breakfast with this person we didn’t even know who was trying to sell us on a membership..that lasted for about an hour and a half, and we had to tell about four different sales people that we were not interested and just wanted to be done with the meeting and enjoy the rest of our honeymoon. It was pretty aggravating to be honest, as we were getting ready to do an excursion that afternoon. And #2. Or a minibar fridge in our room works fine the first night and day, and then the days after it was overheating in the cabinet that they had it in. We had it changed out twice, but nothing helped. My husband and I finally realize about two days before we leave that we should just keep the cabinet door open so it doesn’t get overheated, and then that worked. So that was just another something.Overall it is such a beautiful resort, very helpful staff! And you can’t beat the prices! Everything being all inclusive made it worthwhile! I would definitely recommend this resort! And encourage to do all the fun excursions you can! :)

THIS PLACE IS NUTS! IN A GOOD WAY!

My husband & I stayed here for our honeymoon, needless to say we stayed on the Adult Only side. Right when we got there, we were greeted with a cold, wet hand towel to clean your hands & then a fruity drink upon check in. One of the "guest services" workers toured us around the hotel & helped us to make reservations at the restaurants, apparently you need to do this for your whole trip, just FYI. They also upgraded us from a Junior Swim Up Suite to a 1 Bedroom Swim Up Suite no charge. The ambiance of this place, is so magical. With low lighting, candles everywhere, places to sit, lay, sleep, & the aroma of the lobby & some other areas, the ponds with the fish and turtles and tress, is just amazing! 99% of the food we ate we absolutely loved & the presentation of it was all wonderful. They have house wines, our favorite was a Tempranillo: Marques De La Villa. We did the Caribbean Beach Dinner that they have every Friday, its an extra $25 pp. We do no recommend only because the steak was fatty, & the shrimp and lobster had no flavor, otherwise it was pretty decent, but we were sad to have spent the money. We sat thru a 90 min presentation to get a 50 minute couples massage at their spa & it was so worth it! The YHI Spa is WOW. We will be going there again even if we have to pay the next time. After your massage you can shower, used the steam and sauna room. They have 2 jacuzzis although the water wasn't warm, but their pool was! Then they have a "quiet area" where you can drink some tea or melon water & have some snacks & just sit and relax. I can't explain enough how amazing that experience was. The beach is 1200 feet away from your hotel room, & the water was PERFECT in January. They have chairs & umbrellas available for your leisure. They have kayaking & paddle boarding included in your stay & jet skis for $70 for 2 people for 30 minutes. We did not do that as it was kind of a rip off, in our opinion. So sum it up: The hotel staff were very pleasant, the food was amazing, the service in the restaurants were okay (this is really the only area that could be improved), the atmosphere was so soothing, the beach was clean, & had a server walking around to get food/drinks.We cannot wait to come back to this hotel for the price & are kind of afraid to try another place & not like it! We are sad we missed a lot of the shows & didn't take advantage of the things the hotel offered because we were also out on excursions, so look into that!

Royal Service

We are usually not big fans of all inclusive resorts but this one felt different. Royal Service includes usage of heated pool which was great considering our weather was a little chilly. We had access to another private restaurant besides the dozen or so available on site (the fillet was amazing). We also had our own butler that offered anything from making reservations to drawing your bath. Best meal hands down was the Japanese Hibatchi restaurant(don’t remember the name). Make sure and get a reservation here! Only complaint would be our dinner at The Grill(fatty meat, poor service, basic salad bar). Other than that experience our visit was perfect.
