Our Opinion

The Paradisus la Perla is a great adults-only resort that boasts amazing views. Situated within the corners of Playa del Carmen's resort strip, the resort possesses some of the best views of the beach. There are also plenty of restaurant options available, staffed with attentive and helpful staff and serving one of a kind cuisine that is beyond the usual resort dining experience. There are plenty of swim-up suites available within the resort. This is a perfect destination for couples, weddings, and honeymoons.

Could have been 5 stars

This was our fourth trip to Paradisus in 1.5 years. In general it has been one of the best all-inclusive resorts that we have visited and we have been going to Mexico at least once per years for the past 15 years. The staff at the restaurants, pools and bars are very attentive and some even remembered us from previous visits (Manuel). They have a fantastic gym with updated equipment that was fully functional. The food in the al a carte restaurants offers a nice change from the buffet. On this trip we ate at Bana, Mole, Tappenyaki and Olio. It is nice to be able to order food by the pool, many other all-inclusive hotels do not allow food at the pool. My only recommendation would be to upgrade the house wines.Why I did not give five stars: I brought my adult daughters to celebrate my birthday and mother's day. We booked an air/hotel package through a travel website. Upon arrival, we were given a room with one king bed for three adults. I had requested a room with two beds. They indicated the room type I chose did not offer two beds. Definitely there is a disconnect with the reservation system of the hotel and the travel website. I asked to upgrade and they said no rooms were available. After unpacking, I received a call that an upgraded room maybe available the next day. Another hour later, the upgraded room became available and we were able to move. I give a lot of credit to the entertainment team (Brandon, Jonathon and Carlos) They tried to interact with the customers and my daughter had fun playing beach volleyball.

Average hotel with good service

We received an excellent (for this hotel) room with a partial view of the ocean. (To be fair, there are no "ocean view" rooms; too much foliage.) The hotel is nice, with large, clean rooms and the grounds well kept. However, there are two things at an all-inclusive resort that are the worst: wristbands and dinner reservations. Paradisus has both. We had an excellent butler (Ximena), who we kept busy changing our dinner reservations because plans change throughout the day. (Most all-inclusive resorts we've been to don't require reservations or wristbands.) One night, we ate dinner at one restaurant and tried to have dessert at another one, and they didn't know how to handle this, having to call a manager before it was allowed! Royal service was the only saving grace for this resort as La Palapa is an excellent restaurant option. (Renau and Roberto at breakfast, and Arturo at dinner are excellent, attentive servers!) Every where you went, people are trying to upsell you. Seafood platters at lunch ($40 extra), better wines and better restaurants all cost extra $$. The reason one goes to an all-inclusive is because "Everything is Included." We've been vacationing in Mexico for 10 years (always at all-inclusives), but we won't return to this one.

Service A+++ and Beautiful Resort

We come to this resort every year!!! The service, food, location, and resort are top notch!!! We've stayed at many resorts but always come back here. There are many restaurants and choices to choose from. Definitely recommend! You won't be disappointed

Couldn't be better!

We took a long time to research and decide where to stay in Playa and I'm so happy La Perla was where we ended up! We stayed in the Royal Service area and it was certainly worth it. Our butler, Christian, was attentive and helped us with everything we needed. We were offered things like different kinds of pillows -gel, memory foam or aromatherapy for our pillows. I believe we were allowed to use the hot and cold pools in the spa but we didn't ever end up there.Another advantage of Royal Service is that you don't have to checkout until 1:00 (regular checkout is 11:00 I believe). We were allowed to stay on the resort property until we were picked up at 3:30.The pool is wonderful! It's not crowded like the main pool and is really relaxing. If it's action you want you may want to consider the main pool. They had upbeat music whereas the RS pool was all really spa like music. Pool service is fantastic. You were never left wanting for a drink! Special thanks to Rene at the pool who went out of his way many times to help us out. One day we showed up quite late and there weren't any chairs available. He went to the main pool and brought 2 over for us. It was always service with a smile wherever you went on the property of La Perla.They have a nice little coffee/espresso place over on the Esmerelda side if you're after something other than just a regular cup of coffee. Josephina and Karina were delightful and worked so hard to please the customers.If you have a chance, go to M bar (the martini bar). They have a great selection of martinis and they are soooo good!!The food was truly fantastic. Anything you order off a menu will not disappoint. The buffets had great selection but the food wasn't as good as going into the sit down restaurants. However all the buffets had food that was kept fresh and replenished frequently. I loved Vento the best and Bana Tapanaki had an entertaining show (chef prepares the food in front of you) and La Palapa was nice for breakfast as it's right beside the pool.We were prepared for the beach because of other reviews and they are all correct. It was often quite rough and not conducive to swimming. The oceanfront is small but the sand was soft and pleasant to walk in.My husband used the gym a couple of times and he said it was well equipped. They have a couple of running routes you can take around the resort which we did every day first thing in the morning. I had a small incident where I tripped on something while running and really scraped myself up. An employee saw it happen and sent a first aid attendant to my room immediately. He bandaged me up and checked for any broken bones. It was great that they were so responsive. We visited 5th Ave one afternoon. It's a $10 cab ride approximately. You will be approached by someone with every step you take but a simple "no thanks" and keep walking will solve that. The vendors know which band you are wearing around your wrist and will refer to your hotel. We heard, "hey I was your waiter at La Palapa last night" a number of times. So don't fall for that!So all in all we had such a marvellous time and felt so pampered by the staff. It was relaxing, beautiful and we were so happy to be there. I can only hope we can return sometime soon!

Just ok for us.

This is an "all inclusive" resort and for the most part, very nice and clean. The bars consistently ran out of Jack Daniels so even though I probably only drank 3-4 cocktails a day they were seldom what I wanted. The food was simply average and the better "restaurants" a challenge to get into. The food through room service was actually more palatable than many restaurants we tried. I guess quality control can be an issue when serving unlimited portions. It was my first and probably last with the "all inclusive" model. If you were a binge drinker or eater, it might be different!!
