Good place if you are into pool parties

Overall the Platinum Yucatan Princess is a nice resort. The Grounds are beautiful and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The people are definitely their best asset, very friendly and helpful. Raphael in the Yucatan buffet restaurant was a highlight of our visits to this restaurant, looked forward to talking to him everyday. Susanna, a waitress at the pools ( Rivera and Sunset Princess) is amazing. So very friendly, fast and efficient. I don't know how she could make it back to us so quickly after making a drink order. Now if you are not a pool party person, as we are not, we simply just went over to the pools at the Rivera and Sunset Princess and enjoyed their pools. We did not have a swim out suite so we had to walk to a pool any way, it really isn't far.The food was good, at the alacarte restaurants we tried, but we really enjoyed the buffet restaurant. We did have an issue with the toilet not wanting to shut off one night, so we called the front desk which connected us to maintenance, told them our problem and they were at our room in about 10 minutes. I was impressed to say the least.

Wonderful!

We stayed at this hotel 15th-30th November and I was wary after reading some reviews. No need! Absolutely fell in love with the place. This was our 2nd visit to Mexico but stayed at a different hotel last year. I don't know where to start...room cleaning- spot on. Towels always changed daily. Fridge restocked every day. Towel art left every day.Didn't use the pool really as we preferred the beach where we were served by Marvi, who is a wonderful, kind and pleasant girl and nothing was too much trouble. We never used any of the a la cartes as the buffet was adequate enough for us. I have to mention Javier in the buffet restaurant..this guy is fab. Learnt our names from day one and greeted us with a smile and a wave every day. Always made conversation and worked extremely hard. Everyone works hard and deserve every bit of tips they get.We did the Coco Bongo gold member trip via Thomson. I have to say we did have a fab night but we did kind of feel like we were just dumped at the entrance in the queue. We were told we would have the best seats for seeing everything. We were quite high up but we were sat on high stools with just a ledge for drinks. We could see the main stage but not the stage below as there were people stood in front of us. Having said that it was a great atmosphere and we had a good time. Was really sorry to leave this hotel and I wouldn't hesitate to come back

Nice resort, not quite a 5 star.

Resort and staff were very nice and the resort seems fairly new. The main buffet style restaurant (Yucatán) had themed nights and overall was great. We ate at most of the ala carts, and our favorites were Rodeo Grill or La Bruschetta. I would recommend attending the Mexican night for the authentic Mexican cuisine at the bar plaza! We were in the 3000 block that overlooked the main pool. During the day it was busy, however around 6 or 7 pm it was very quiet. My only complaints about the room were the traffic noise as the main road into the resort was behind us and seemed to have a lot of traffic through out the night. Secondly, the bar fridge left something to be desired, as we had minimal options. Beach was good and you could find a spot that was quiet or be in the middle of the action near the bar. The water wasn't super clear, especially after it rained and the seaweed came up. Also, and more important to know, was that about 10-15ft in to the ocean you will find it to be quite rocky. This really limited the amount of time we spent in the ocean. I recommend bringing some water shoes. Overall, it's a nice resort, however in my opinion, not quite a 5 star.

Awesome Place for a vaction!! Great food, awesome staff, and lots to do

We were at the Princess Riviera in the Spring, and because of the great deal we got, decided to go back this November but on the Platinum side. Highly recommended. We had the luxury of everything they had to offer, between all resorts. If you want party and excitement we found the Tequila bar was great, but just to relax, and meet people the platinum side was just as good. I made guacomole on the beach, played Bingo on the Riviera side, had French Cuisine on the Riviera side, participated in the night entertainment, went into town for some site seeing, Scuba, day trip on a catamaran all the time feeling very safe. Best of all was the Sports park on the Platinum side. We checked out the bikes at the front desk and spent quite a bit of time there, learning to paddle board, did some archery, played pool. If you are into golf, tennis batting cages you could do that too. Lots of fun. Paty and Lachina were awesome hosts. Definitely would go back. Thanks Sunwing and Staff at the Princess for the amazing time.

Excellent value

Because of long delays to get previous reviews published, I swore I would never write another one but because I love this place so much, here I am!We visited the week of November 15, 2016. We were also here in November 2014 during the soft opening and we were excited to see the changes done since then. We’ve been vacationning down south since 1991 and this is the first time we come back to the same place and we certainly were not disappointed. Both times we were in a swim-out suite, building 3 in 2014, building 4 this year. Two years ago, we were rignt in front of what is considered the main pool. I would definitely call it now the party pool! If you like being right the middle of the action, building 3 is the place for you, especially to enjoy the foam party every Saturday at 3PM. If you like a super quiet area, building 1 and the west facing side of building 2 is what you want. Building 4 and the east facing side of building 2 is a perfect compromise. Building 5 are platinum suites.I won’t go into details as others have already done so brilliantly. I’ll mostly go into the improvements that were made since we were here. As much as we loved it last time, I see a lot of added touches here and there. Here are the theme nights at the Yucatan buffet to help you plan your suppers throughout the week: Monday: Oriental Tuesday: Mexican Wednesday: Mediterranean Thursday: Caribbean (watch for the lobster tails at the grilling station) Friday: Italian (yummy filet mignons cooked on demand) Saturday: Country Sunday: InternationalThe Yucatan buffet is opened between regular meal times for snacks. All meals are good, I see a definite improvement since 2014 although I find that the type of casseroles used to keep the food warm is not the best. It’s sometimes awkward to manage your plate and the lids at the same time. Life is hard!A la carte restaurants were all opened when we were here. Portions at Aroma and Bruschetta are small but this means you can order more than one appetizer and get to taste different things. I’m a big fan of the piquillo pepper appetizer at Aroma! We went to eat around 7:30 and never had to wait. You need reservations for the teppenyaki tables but there is also a menu if you want to eat at the regular tables. What is really awesome and we didn’t get a chance to do last time is the sushis bar. The sushis are served in small one portion plates and put on a conveyor belt, You choose what and how many you want, so much fun! Combined with some vino espumoso, pure joy! You can go at the sushis bar without a reservation. We did that one night for appetizers and went to the buffet after.Rodeo Grill now has two menus: Steakhouse and Mexican. Love the tortilla chips served as appetizers with guacamole and sauces. They have a flambé liquor coffee stand across the “Bar de Espera”. They’re just the right size and the Mayan coffees are great.Service is good throughout the resort, including the staff at the reception which oddly enough is not always the case at some resorts. Shout out to Javier at the buffet from the “dollar shirt” lady!I like the layout of the Deluxe rooms much better than the Platium suites (not a big fan of having the shower right next to the bed). Everything worked great and it has everything we need except an alarm clock so if you need to wake up early for an excursion or to catch a flight, better bring one from home. Turn down service seems mostly to replace towels but they always passed too early for us (around 6PM). I see what people meant by the minibar not being all inclusive. There is a set amount of bottles that they will replace, any extras will be charged. Yes places like Excellence and Secrets won’t do this but it’s also 1000$ more per couple. If you have any bottles left at the end of the day, just hide them in the closet and they will be replaced, problem solved! The mattress is really comfortable and there are extra pillows in the closet. For some reason, the chambermaid lifts the card that’s placed at the entrance. We once thought that we had no electricity but found this out later on. When we first got into room, we noticed that our patio door lock was broken. We stopped at the reception on our way to lunch and when we got back, it was fixed. Excellent service! There is no towel game at this resort, plenty of room for everyone at the beach and pools. At the beach, we liked to go all the way to the end on the left where it was really quiet. All the pools have chairs, not just the main one so no need to get up at 6AM. The ones across our swim out in building 4 were in the shade and always empty. The sports park is really nice but it doesn’t seem to be advertised enough. I took a walk to see what it was like and no one was there except the girls from the animation team. That’s where the pool tables are but I don’t know if you can go at night and I imagine there might be mosquitoes. We wish there were some pool tables a bit closer. Google map is a good way to see where the sports park is. Put it in Earth view and you’ll see an aqua color double lake at the top right. In summary, this resort has everything we’re looking for. No towel game, nice beach for long walks, amazing pools, good service, decent food and it’s a perfect size. If you want to take some walks, just cross the wooden gate near the lobby and head over to the mega complex next door, you have access to everything. It’s fun to visit (so many coatis!!!) but it feels great to come back to PYP! For the price, it’s really hard to beat and I can see us coming back on a regular basis.
