Our Opinion

The Playacar Palace is an incredible destination that has all of the elements of a luxury resort. They've got great nightly entertainment and amazing food choices. The service is beyond exceptional and the staff go above and beyond with whatever it is that you need. The location of the resort is perfect too, as it lies within the heart of the Riviera Maya. It isn't a far commute or walk to the nearest beach, market place, or shopping center. This is a definite must-go if you're in the Riviera Maya.

Fabulous winter getaway

We just returned several days ago from spending a week at the Playacar Palace. It was our second visit and overall, we cannot recommend it highly enough. There were some very minor issues, including bad service one evening in one restaurant and bad timing on our part because the Alquimia Dinner was not offered the month we were there, but things like that happen on every vacation. While our room was wonderful, if you like to spend time on the porch, avoid 525 as the view is significantly blocked by a roof line. However, my focus needs to be on all of the spectacular things about the resort. We spent time almost every day at the pool and enjoyed in particular the incredible service given by Silvia Lopez and the pizza made by Walter Coon. There were others who never let a glass be empty and we don’t want to slight the overall service of the pool staff. The Italian Restaurant is fabulous and Cristtel as a waitress could not have been more welcoming and attentive. The special Yucatan dinner and the Japanese display of culinary arts, both requiring reservations, are not to be missed. It is hard to find the restaurant for the Yucatan dinner but it is well worth the effort. We read a few complaints about construction issues and poor service, but we did not encounter this (except the one evening and the mention to the hostess was all it took). We cannot recommend the Playacar Palace enough. It is one of the smaller Palaces, and its intimate feel as well as its great location close to the Cozumel ferry and 5th Avenue make it unbeatable for a Mexican Riviera vacation.

Our 8th year

I celebrate my friends birthday with her every year. This is our favorite place. Delicious drinks and food, beautiful pool and beach right off of 5th Ave. Pearla kept our drinks full and greeted us by name every day. Very clean. The staff is always scrubbing something. The hotel has beautiful updates this year. Another favorite is Israel, very kind and always knows when we need more cappuccino.

Great trip!

We had a great trip to Playacar Palace Resort! This was our second time there. The resort just went thru some renovation and the rooms were great! Very clean, Hot water for showers every day, comfortable bed. Oh and fantastic food! We were greeted one night by the Chef JuanDavid when we were eating at the Brazilian restaurant and he invited us to a special meal for the 2 of us that he wanted to cook for us to rate if it would be good for the Chef's dinner that they were bringing back to the resort. We did this meal the day before we left, and the presentation was fabulous and the courses were delicious! A: Daniel, Minerva, Pablo, And Rube!!! Oh and Christel in the French Restaurant was GREAT! Also the pool bartender Benito who does a great job and makes your drinks fantastic! I cannot say enough about the great service by all the staff ! We will be back again! If not to Playacar,,,,,, another Palace Resort !!

Playacar Palave Trip

My husband and I went to Playacar Palace for 10 days Nov 29 - Dec 8, 2017. Yes it was one day after they opened after a major hotel renovation but we still had a wonderful holiday. The staff were awesome and the service was A-one. We have a Palace membership and our DC Paola went above and beyond to make out stay unforgettable. We celebrated an anniversary milestone while there and she with her team arranged a wonderful terrace dinner followed up by having our room decorated with a trail of rose petals, the jacuzzi tub filled and with more rose petals and a bottle of wine on ice.Israel our waiter at bkfst and lunch was so professional and helpful. It is so nice when the staff on the restaurant desk remember you by name.Rafeal was our waiter in 2016 that provided an awesome special dinner for us in Momono Hana moved up to the Italian restaurant this year and as always a pleasure to have him serve us.Rayna Sanchez was our waitress in the lobby bar and she made sure I had one of her special beverages for me.

We had a great relaxing week with the family

The kids were home from college and we decide needed a last minute getaway. We typically try to stay away from the crowded all inclusive resorts with thousands of people lining up for food and activities and fighting over beach space. To us they are like a big crowded cruise on land.Playacar Palace is a small intimate newly renovated resort. With less than 200 rooms on a beautiful white sand beach with aqua blue waters we were intrigued. We were concerned because we read about construction at the hotel. The reviews of others were probably true, but by the time we got there the finishing touches such as new patio furniture etc were just being added, so by now everything is done. Our rooms were brand new, beautiful, clean and 5 star! We got the walk out suite, which costs more, but you literally open the patio door to beautiful outdoor furniture and then the beach. We never had to go anywhere. I recommend the walk out suite if you can swing it.We were concerned about the all inclusive food being of sub-par quality and long buffet style lines. None of the above. There are five restaurants you can chose from at dinner, all are easy to get into and the food is excellent. The buffet is always available and it is never crowded and the food is also very good. They also have a great selection of food that can be delivered to you at the beach. The service here is amazing. at the beach on the restaurants etc. wherever you go the staff is happy and eager to please you. they always answer a thank you with "its a pleasure" and I really think they mean it. They never linger around or hint for a tip, but we would tip them at the end of each day (at beach) or meal (at dinner restaurants) anyway because the service deserved it.David, the General Manager also deserves points. We were there a week, and as you can expect, there are always issues, with a guest, or a room or... I witnessed a few and each time, when necessary David personally came out to help the staff solve the problem. I even saw him once help the staff move furniture around on the beach to help make a guest happy. He is a GM that really wants his guests to enjoy their experience and Palace Resorts is lucky yo have him.We are NOT a member of Palace Resorts. They did try for 5 minutes to get us to go to a presentation, but when we said no, they graciously backed away. We loved our experience and would definitely return to Palace Resorts again, especially if they are all like Playacar, but resort ownership/membership is not for us, we like to be free and flexible. Two more things re the location and other reviews we read. Yes they are located at the edge of the ferry pier and ferries run in and out all day. It did not bother us at all and as a matter of fact it made for good people watching. Overall the ferries were quiet and we did not experience much ferry exhaust as some complained about. I did notice that all the ferries would back out, which maybe is in response to trying to minimize any exhaust at the beach, and for the most part it worked. There is also a bar with music at the end of the pier but again, it didn't bother us at all, were were there to relax and sleep on the beach and we did without a problem. Also, the resort is at the beginning of the very long walking street (5th Avenuue) which is full of shops, restaurants people etc., so we could wander over there in the evening without the need for a taxi. The bottom line, we LOVED our week at Playacar Palace. The resort is small and quiet and while they do have entertainment and activities, don't go there expecting Disneyland. If you want to spend quality time in a good location with good food in Riviera Maya, I recommend Playacar Palace.
