Our Opinion
On the lower end of the RIU hotel scale, the RIU Lupita is still a good hotel as long as you understand what you are getting. This hotel is not on the beach, it is smaller and does not have as many facilities as the other RIU hotels in the area. However, the service, food and rooms are still up to par with the other RIU resorts. The package price on this resort is often very attractive.

BEWARE OF SICKNESS

Travelled to Riu Lupita 1st/15th Nov 2017 .The hotel is compact ,you won,t get lost .All the staff are helpful and friendly. The bus to the beach and the town will give you a change of scenery. The beach is fantastic. Our 1st week was great then it went downhill.I was sick on the 8th Nov .and my wife was sick on the 10th Nov .My wife was so sick she passed out twice in the bathroom injuring her arm and back. We reported this sickness to reception who offered to get a doctor, but we were due to fly home next day. Great small Hotel just watch what you eat, would not go back

The bus ride is a big deal!!

If you have stayed at a 4 star anywhere else this doesn't compare except maybe Cuba. If you are used to something nicer and want to be by the beach don't go here. The bus ride is across town and very bumpy. The price might be good but if you spend a few hundred more you get much nicer and on the beach. Rooms were below standard, food was fine. The only positive is when we wanted to upgrade the front desk staff accommodated very well with a $20 upgrade per night to go to a different Riu on the beach. Well worth it! You won't be disappointed with Riu Playacar or Yucatan. I'm giving the second star based on their help to move us.

Fantastic.

Have just come back from a week at the Riu Lupita. It was a late deal with Tui at a very reasonable price. The Hotel, staff and food were fantastic. I have read a number of reviews stating the food was not up to scratch, or there was not enough choice.... I beg to differ. The food was stunning, with far too much choice for the average mortal like myself. The regular shuttle bus to the beach front is a fun ten minute ride and has a drop off near the town centre if you want. The room was great with a slight niggle as the balcony is adjacent to very tall dense trees, so no view at all and quite shaded, but I don't go away to sit in a Hotel room. My main niggle is the fact that before booking I checked the location on google earth. The Riu Lupita is surrounded by a golf course, criss crossed my tracks and paths. Crossing the golf course would make the beachfront restaurant an easy ten minute walk. Not to be. The signs around the golf course are unclear and state " no jogging ". On attempting to walk along the concrete track I was hunted down by a chap on a buggy and politely asked to go back. My fault entirely for not doing my homework. The shuttle bus is great, but for me, a ten minute walk would be better.

Can't wait to go back

Rooms were spacious, clean with a lovely bathroom and cleaned daily to a high standard, the mini bar was restocked every other day. The buffet restaurant was great, never seen such a large selection of food, took ages to decide what to eat, we wanted to try it all, lol. There was a show on every night, which was great, we actually preferred the ones put on by the animation team rather the "professionals" that came a couple of times a week. The animation team were fantastic, so don't be shy, join in the activities and get to know them! The pool area was lovely and clean with plenty of sunbeds, during the day the bar staff came round with a drinks trolley offering, beer, cocktails, spirits etc. Can't praise the staff enough, every single one of them spoke to you in passing, they really made us feel welcome. All in all, this hotel ticked all the boxes for us, it was a holiday to remember, we are already looking at prices to come back next year, can't wait!

Quick Get Away

My husband and I decided on a short 5 day stay. We arrived to the hotel shortly before noon. Milton checked us in and gave us our bracelets and told us to enjoy the facilities until our room was ready. We left our bags, changed and got the full benefit of our first day. Our room was just across from the main buffet (which I would avoid next time due to noise) on the main floor which was handy because there are no stairs to climb. The room was clean, yes hard Mexican beds, fresh towels, mini bar stocked every other day, in room liquor dispenser and plenty of towels. We brought our own little coffee maker to enjoy the first java on the balcony (except for the day we were ambushed by the coatis-negative to being on the ground floor-they are not afraid to approach you and we tried to shoo them off without luck). Still not sure how I feel about the coatis. They were there first I guess, harmless really but.... This is a very small, compact resort which is suitable for people with mobility issues (just make sure you request ground floor room). Not a lot of walking unless you want to set out for a stroll along the walkways to see the golf course and nearby shopping. We really enjoyed the food and drink. Plenty of variety, and the quality was excellent for all inclusive. We only went to the steakhouse for the a la carte dinner. Other nights we were happy to enjoy the buffet. Not being directly on the beach really wasn't a big deal but you do miss it and the views I guess. The shuttle to the beach and town were effortless. Very punctual and quick. We walked around the area by the beach club checking out the other RIU'S and they are all lovely. Really nice, safe and clean area. Entertainment was awesome. But bring your own music if you like to listen to music around the pool/beach. Beach area played jazz in the afternoon (really) and the "noisy" pool played music later in the day. Would like to thank all the hard working staff that always had a smile on your faces. Brigida always made sure we had everything we needed at breakfast/lunch. Milton at the front desk. Felix, Raul, and all the wonderful bartenders-you work hard to keep us all hydrated. Our waiter at the steakhouse was exceptional. And all the evening staff in the buffet. My wine glass was always full!To make the stay better we would have preferred an earlier show time. Perhaps 9:00 pm? 9:45pm is late. After a long day in the sun and fun we were very heavy lidded waiting for the show to start. Also providing towels down at the beach would have been a real treat as you wouldn't need to carry your towel through town (if you chose to wander there first). And getting back from the beach with your wet towel unfortunately can not be exchanged for a dry one (1 towel per day rule is petty)Would definitely like to return some day for another quick escape and would recommend to our friends, but would love to stay at one of the RIU'S down by the beach next time. Happy and safe travels to all my fellow reviewers. Make the most of your vacation, it's what we work so hard for all year round!
