Our Opinion
A fun, family oriented resort located across the street from the RIU Yucatan. Not beachfront but in a beachfront complex; overlooks the golf course. Good food and services. Has a disco and a lively crowd. Good for families. Walking distance to Playa del Carmen. This resort is perfect for vacationers who want the Riu all inclusive experience, but don't have it in the budget to stay at one of the beachfront resorts.

2nd time for us to celebrate New Year

Once again we re-visited the Tequila to see in the New Year.Booked with Thomsons, flew over on the dreamliner, all good and would repeat.E mailed before arrival asking for a quite room on the first floor and got just that, though the hotel cannot be responsible for people with no consideration when coming back from bars at night "but they are on their Holidays" and also getting up early for trips in the early hours of the morning!!!! This Hotel is Fabulous, The staff Wonderful, food very good for A/I, Drinks Brilliant, though I would say they need to re-staff the Asian so poor compared to Buffet. Did not go to the Mexican last year because of bad reviews but went this year and nothing has changed!!! they forgot our main course and started clearing tables to go home before we asked for it. Steak was ok for a change from buffet. Saying that if I was to go back I would still try them all again for a change of scenery, we also eat in PlayaDel Carmen. You have a choice of 3 hotels to roam around in and have 2 hotels to lunch down on the beach in, which is a 5 min walk.We never once sat at the pool, do not like the animals there and prefer a bit more space on the beach, there are loads of sunbeds anytime of day and a lovely walk both ways.We had a fabulous time once again, see many faces that were there last year and also met some lovely people this year, we may even go back next year!!!!Only gave it a rating of 4 due to rooms being a bit dated but very clean.

Great winter sun destination

This hotel is bigger than those that we usually use so it took us a little while to adjust, but once we did we had a fabulous time. We have had some rain most days, but it doesn't last long and it is still warm. Overall, this place has everything you need and you don't need to spend a penny if you don't want to, although tips are greatly appreciated although not expected. The only reason I have marked this 4/5 rather than 5/5 is because of the sea.Beach - a short pleasant stroll or cart ride away. A lovely sandy beach to either relax on or walk. There are plenty of sunbeds, even too many in my personal opinion. Lunch can be taken at the beach at sister hotels, so it is not even necessary to come back to this hotel. The downside is the sea. We were there for 14 days and could not swim or dip even. The sea has been very rough, with big waves and an under current. We tried on the first days and were knocked over so didn't try again.Pool - clean, warm enough, good swim up bar. Yes there is a shortage of chairs but that's because many people creep out at dawn and reserve their beds with towels and then dont come and use them! Very selfish people! Rooms - perfect for us. Large room, 2 double beds pushed together. Exceptionally clean. The cleaning staff are very thorough. We tipped a little daily rather than at the end. No kettle but you can bring your own and get milk from the restaurant. Cold drinks in the room - beer, water, soft drinks, spirits. Good a/c. Good double glazing and a very important fly screen at the door,Bars - well stocked with both premium and local drinks. 24 hours. Great cocktails. Happy, smiley bar tenders who like to chat if quiet. They work 6 days a week and very long hours. Tip them sometimes if you can. 20 peso is only 80p.Food - breakfast - buffet - everything you could want and more. Fresh juices from the juice man, fresh eggs cooked by the egg man, pancakes, pastries, doughnuts, salad, cereal, meats, cheeses, sausage, bacon, yoghurts, Mexican etc. Etc.Lunch - again, a good variety, buffet style and anything you fancy - in the Lupita bar.Evening - main buffet- excellent - different each night with many choices. I fail to see how even fussy eaters will go hungry. Food could sometimes be a bit hotter.Steak house is at the Lupita - ok. Not self service - Same starters every night, steaks cooked to order, good fish and ribs, same sweets every night. Would be good to see the menu change on a weekly rota.Asian - very good - excellent starters - great variety of sushi and Chinese hot starters, good mains, great ribs and duck, and good choice of sweet. Again, same menu every night and an alternate menu would be better. Mexican - we didn't try because there was Mexican food every night in the buffet. All catering staff work extremely hard without exception. Again, we tipped sometimes and it was gratefully received but again not expected. Look out for Wilbert, front of house at the buffet at breakfast and Asian at night. Smiley helpful man who likes a little joke too.Try a little Spanish when talking to the staff here, they will appreciate it and it is fun to learn something new.I realise I have mentioned tipping quite a bit in this review. I guess we spent about £100 in total at the most over the 2 weeks in tips. As everything else is included in the holiday price, then £100 is a small amount to us, and reflects the hard work of all the staff here.Don't forget to save £50 per person exit tax if you want to come home.We booked our trips at Maya tours, the first shop at the plaza. Prices were fair, safety was always important, vehicles were air conditioned and the guides and drivers were excellent. My husband liked the a/c sports bar for premier league matches. We didn't go to the shows so can't comment. If I was looking for somewhere to relax for winter sun at a good price I would return.

Great getaway

Relaxing couples vacation. Traditional Mexican decor. Variety of restaurant/food options. Great drinks... Mojitos, mango daquris, and Superman. Beach at sister property offers a shuttle servece if you don't want to walk (only a few minutes walk).Short cab ride into the local shopping district very convenient.

Do it again

It was a 5 minute walk from the beach. Very relaxing. Even most of the staff have been working here for 10 years or more. Any little thing and it was taken care of right away. My other half and I will stay here again. Clean and kept up but really could use an upgrade as some things are getting old and tired. The food was good. Buffet changes every day. 4 restaurants. Nice to see the lemurs and the landscaping makes it feel like a secluded retreat.

Very good

Slight disappointment in weather but all round great holiday. Couldn't fault facilities, pool a bit cold but didn't stop the kids being straight in. Beaches really nice and nighttime entertainment good
