Beautiful but food gets repetitive.

Visited this hotel from November to December 2016. The hotel is beautiful with the most amazing beach. After reading reviews before hand I was unsure what to expect with the beach however it was completely different to how some people explain it. Yes there was seaweed. Was the seaweed bad? No. There was one day out of fourteen that the seaweed was really noticeable however the staff of this hotel work their hardest to get rid of the seaweed. The hotel rooms I could not fault every drink you need and cleaned to high standards daily. The hotel do not offer any sea view rooms but these are not needed as the beach is just outside of your rooms! Food is nice however sometimes gets a bit too repetitive. I highly recommend the steak restaurant by far the best. The Italian one seemed to be the worst for us however was busy every night. The hotel offer plenty of drinks but their cocktail list isn't very big. Any drinks you do want and they know how to make they gladly will. I recommend the strawberry mojito. The hotel doesn't provide much entertainment on an evening but do go over to Riu tequila and take advantage of their shows. Didn't see the same one over the two weeks and they were great. Before the shows they also offer entertainment for the children it is great and you get your free drinks over there, also recommend riu tequlia at lunch time makes a nice change to yucatan when staying for a long time. If you get excited over the monkeys on the way to the pool there is a bridge just behind the brick wall on a morning go round there and you won't be disappointed! There is signs asking to not feed them but many people do and it is an amazing experience to get so up close and personal with the monkeys. The staff work very hard and make you feel very welcome. Thank you riu for a lovely stay will be returning.

We have just come back after 2 weeks I was reading reviews before we went and started to doubt whether I picked the right one need not have worried, the flight with Thompsons was good and no delays check in at the hotel was quick and easy and we was given a welcome drink we was taken to our room promptly with our luggage the room was nice and clean and we found the shower not a problem like other reviews it wasn't as bad as it sounded, we had a safe which was free iron and board, umbrella and plenty too drink and our room was kept clean the whole time we was there, tea and coffee facilities would of been nice but I took a travel kettle which worked fine and boiled in minutes when it was put on 120v and the bar gave me a carton of milk. The beach is wonderful you could always find a sun bed whatever time you went down there the same for the pools the quiet pool was very nice , the wildlife was lovely the monkeys and other animals and very large crickets . Plenty of very nice food and lots of drink your glass was never empty, we tried all the restaurants they were all very nice, my favourites being the Asian and Italian the first time we went to the steakhouse we was very disappointed but we gave it another try and had sirloin steak and it was very nice , the melon carvings in the buffet restaurant was very good (see pictures) we had a problem with our safe but within ten minutes of reporting it they fixed it . Done the turtles trip with Thompsons which was a little expensive but well worth it we swam with quite a few and went to the cenotes as well which was good all in all a fantastic holiday thank you riu hope to come back one day

Fab hotel

Wow,I don't really know where to start !! We flew on the Dreamliner & was really looked after by the staff on the plane. We found the flight went really quick & also the transfer was good.We checked in very easily & was offered a lovely cold drink which was very refreshing especially after such a long flight. On our way to our room we saw a monkey with a baby so it was a good start & we was very very excited looking around at all the trees & beautiful flowers. The room was lovely modern, very clean & we had a great balcony overlooking the trees. The bed was huge & we had a flat screen TV,small table with chairs,a fridge full of bottles of water, coke,Sprite, beer etc.We couldn't believe how great it was.The hotel is set in beautiful grounds full of trees, palm trees & amazing flowers full in bloom. We had a bridge near our room which we walked over everyday & watched the monkeys in the trees & the huge iguana basking in the sun.If you love wildlife this is a great place to stay. You almost feel like you are in the middle of a jungle yet the hotel is right on the beach. The beach is Amazing & on our first night after dinner we went down to the beach & put our feet into the sea we couldn't believe how Hot the water was. The hotel is great I cannot fault it,everywhere was spotless including all the grounds. The staff were lovely & friendly but the Thomson rep named May was Amazing !! She was brill on giving you honest information on the trips we was interested in booking.Plus I had to see her for some advice as my ankles were very swollen on the last 4 days of our holiday due to the humidity & walking too much. The hotel offers different restaurants & we went into the Italian place twice but my advice is ask for a small portion if you go for the pasta as they serve big portions. We also tried the steak house,Chinese & Mexican all were great & we could not fault the food or the service. It was nice to try something different from the usual buffet that we used for breakfast. The choice of food in the buffet for breakfast you couldn't fault their is something for everyone. They also do an early breakfast for people going on trips which we used. The hotel has a gym & a Spa but we didn't use them. They have a jacuzzi which I tried but it wasn't very powerful. The swimming pools were big & they had a chill out area with day beds & hammocks. The hotel provides sun beds & parasols free of charge on the beach & you can lay in the sun chilling out watching the Pelicans diving into the sea for fish. Our rep told us their was no fish in the sea but we went out with our snorkels on & were surrounded by lots of fish just remember to take some bread with you.The water was so clean & crystal clear. The only negative thing I would say is the bathroom is open plan so you don't get any privacy & the shower door you can see through !! This didn't bother us as we have known each other for years but if you are sharing a room with someone & want privacy the bathroom isn't any good.Apart from that I cannot wait to visit this hotel again just to see the amazing wildlife & fauna. The all inclusive you definitely need especially in the humid weather & our rep told us the best time to visit is more at the end of the year where the humidity is much lower. The heat did drain us & more so when we went on our trips that we had booked. When you come out of the hotel & turn right their is lots of small shops including a supermarket, pharmacist which is very handy. We enjoyed walking around the shops in the evening & found the people very friendly. We fell in love with Mexico & even though we had 2 weeks holiday we needed more time & will definitely go back to see more of Mexico.I can thoroughly recommend this hotel it was an amazing holiday & we have wonderful memories.

Actually visited in May 2015

Was here in May 2015 and I would highly recommend this resort if you're looking for value. It's a typical Riu that's should be rated a 4.5 star and not a 5. The food was good but not great. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the beach was nice. There's also monkeys on the resort that will come right up to you and take food from your hands! There was a bit of seaweed that washes up on the beach, but it wasn't overwhelming and the staff was out cleaning it up everyday. It's a big beach so there's never issues finding a decent spot to chill and relax. Playa Del Carmen is a 5 minute cab ride from the resort and we went there twice. It's a nice tourist town with lots of shopping, souvenirs, café's and restaurants if you want to get off the resort for a bit - although shopkeepers are constantly approaching you as you walk by their store asking you to go in and buy something. Tulum ruins are nearby but we opted to do the Chicin Itza excursion and I highly recommend it. It's a full day (3 hours each way) on a coach bus, but well worth it. It's one thing to see it on TV but to be able to wander around and see the pyramid and other ruins is just plain awe inspiring. Never spent time at the pools so I can't comment - why would you spend all that money to go to a pool when you have an amazing ocean to swim in!
