The first Riu Resort to be built in Mexico, the Riu Yucatan had an extensive $20 million renovation in 2013. A great choice for families or couples, families will enjoy the wonderful kids club and couples will like the relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. Walking distance to town means you are not too far from the shops of Playa del Carmen's 5th Avenue. Good food and services. Recommended for a great all inclusive vacations. Top hotel.

We have just spent a lovely 10 days at the Yucatan and its great .staff so look after you and food is top notch beach is great adult pool is the better for just chillin so we used this alot .Once down in Player del Carmen things change a little and you do get pestered alot and will get ripped of if not careful haggle for half of what the price is and that will be what its really worth. We caught a taxi and did our own excursions and saved a fortune went to Tulum in a taxi (28) each way £4 entrance at tulum Cozumel and cenote Chaak Tun also are easy to do yourself and worth the trip.Very hot so be careful and dont forget your £50 exit tax at airport if with Thomson.

Beautiful Resort

The wife and I stayed here for a week May 9-16 /17.All staff here are excellent ,they go out of the way to accommodate anything you need. We tried the Al a carte restaurants Mexican and the steak house ,very good food and plenty to eat. Inside the buffet was more choices then you can think of .We found the resort very clean ,staff cleaning all the time . Down the road about a block away was a small mall to pick up any trinkets to take home with you or for 90 pesos you could go to 5th ave .Very good stay

In December 2016 my husband and I flew out to Mexico we stayed at this amazing hotel... from arriving to leaving the service was amazing.Rooms:The rooms were spotless and cleaned everyday fresh towels also. We had optics in our room which were refilled every other day we also had a fridge which was refilled everyday with soft drinks and beer these were all inclusive so no extra was charged at checking out. The rooms were a lovely size we had no problems what so ever. Food: There was so much to choice from we thought the food was lovely and fresh we had no issues with the food... there was always some where open to get Food, after midnight there was a little snack bar where you could get snacks from, all the staff so friendly and happy to help. Location:OMG it was amazing on the beach and so close to everything. We went swimming with the dolphins and this was about 30 minutes from the hotel. The hotel is also a 5 minute drive 20 minute walk to the shops and restaurant we went there a few times a taxi was about 80 peso it was lovely to get out and be able to walk around there was so much to do. We looked at other hotels with 14 different places to eat ECT but these were quite far out... if you are like me and get bored being in the same place then this is defo the hotel to go to, you can go for walks and you always feel safe. Around the hotel were different wild animals we had monkeys outside our room, it was amazing especially as we nearly paid $80 each to go visit monkeys it was so much more amazing seeing them in the wild.5* stay and service!!! Overall we had an amazing time and we have no faults with the hotel.

Great Time at Riu Yucatan

Had stayed and loved Riu Palace in Cabo San Lucas 2 years ago, and decided to try another Riu Hotel, wanting to stay close to Playa Del Carmen. Really enjoyed Riu Yucatan. Nice property, large rooms, rooms and property always kept very clean. Staff very nice and friendly in all service areas. Recommend room in buildings, 4, 1 or 5. All conveniently located to both pool/beach area and not a bad walk to lobby and restaurants. Food: great buffet spread for breakfast and dinner, very good selection, lots of fish, NY steak every night. Easy and short line to have eggs cooked to your pleasure every morning, or get the ones already done, scrambled, over/easy, sunny side up, etc. Buffet was so great, we only eat in one specialty restaurant, the Steakhouse, one night, very good ribeye steaks, you can also chose sirloin. We did not try the Italian (menu was small), Mexican (wife does not like), Asian (just did not get there, found some fried rice at the regular buffet). for lunch, very good spread served every day right by the pool area. 3 pools, the quiet one is closer tot he lobby area. 2 other pool by the beach, one where they do all the activities, sometimes music pretty loud, but fun to watch the water aerobics and other typical games played for guests enjoyment. Bar/lounges everywhere if that is your thing, we enjoyed their non-liquor fruity drinks. Evening shows: a disappointment, walked out of a couple, did not go to the others, typically a 9:30 pm start. Did $7 cab ride to downtown Playa, the 5th Avenue area, walked several blocks of it, much changed from years back, lots of shops and restaurants. A few more modern shop areas along the avenue with A/C inside to get away from the heat. They tell you can walk to downtown area, 20 minutes from hotel. NOT! We talked to some that did, took them 45 minutes, and by the time they got there were very sweaty and exhausted. Taxi is 120 pesos ($7) one way. Exchange is at 17 pesos to the dollar, don't let that fool you, prices on everything have gone up. FYI, there is a small shopping area very walkable to the hotel, about a 10 minute walk. go out of the Riu and turn right, walk about 2-3 blocks. Did not get to see the other Riu hotels in the complex, they are not as close a walk as they make it sound like. The Riu Yucatan is the largest, with the beach right there. Beach area large and nice, soft sand, lots of loungers. They do sweep up the seaweed, as much as they can, but still some there thru the day. Not their fault, it's mother nature. Went into beach water once, warning flags were out yellow or red, very windy, lots of strong, constant waves. Want more prefect beach water? Go to Caribbean islands! Overall a great time and would highly recommend this hotel. Very good value for all you get. Wonderful green natural landscaping, vegetation, flowers, tropical plants, palm trees. Monkeys can be seen high up in trees, not typical roaming the grounds. Other tame local creatures can be seen walking around the property. We did not have any mosquito or bug problems on this stay. Room had good A/C, comfortable mattress, plenty of hot water, towels. Large, lots of drawer space for clothes. Quick response from front desk when we called for extra pillows, delivered in minutes. Rooms have back terrace for sitting or drying out towels and bathing suits.

Great Holiday but mixed thoughts about this Hotel.

Great Facilities at this Hotel, but with the rooms lacking behind somewhat. Communal areas are great and very clean. Plenty of pools, and service throughout was generally very good. Right on the beach which was gorgeous. Activities around the pool everyday to keep you entertained, but you could get away from this if you wanted to. The rooms were not quite up to the same standard - tired and generally in need of an upgrade. Not a 5 star, or even 4 to be honest. Water and Optics were replaced every two days - but no kettle !! Take some earplugs or you will be woken up by the Howler Monkeys at 5am every morning! It seems that most people in the hotel are up and about by 7.30am, so don't stay here if you like to lay in. We stayed here mainly to be near to Playacar so thankfully were not too concerned about the restaurants. the buffet restaurant was great for Breakfast and OK for evening meal. The Italian restaurant was quite nice. Steakhouse was very disappointing, tough steak. Didn't go to the Asian, and forget going to the Mexican unless you get up and get in the queue by 6.45am !! 3 times we tried and then gave up. This is a ridiculous system. You can walk into Playacar along the beach in about 30 minutes, or a cab at takes 5 mins and is about £5. We went into Playacar 6 nights out of our 10. There are some fantastic restaurants and bars here which would be a shame to miss. Fantastic buzz about the place.
