Our Opinion

Great choice that has the makings and elements of a luxury hotel. Amazing food options and great service offered by all staff members. The music and noise level tends to run relatively high at times. Despite it getting relatively busy around the beach during the day, staff members have no problem accommodating guests with extra beach chairs.

The 'royal treatment' is not just a phrase - the signature service of the incredibly luxurious Royal Hideaway by Occidental is a place where service & style come together with complete, grand fashion. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed and indulged with attentive service, as you reside in luxurious villa accommodations of spacious rooms, private terraces and exquisite marble baths with Jaccuzis. Representing a fusion of Spanish & Mexican architecture - winding rivers, waterfalls and fountains connect the villas to the main building, while surrounded by the most beautiful stretch of beach on the Yucatan Peninsula. This resort is where everything around you, from service to food - is nothing but the best!

Location: Directly on the beautiful Playacar beach, 5 minutes from Playa del Carmen, 45 minutes from the airport.

  • Nice white sand beach and beautiful grounds, located a short drive from Playa del Carmen
  • Sophisticated rooms with high-end amenities
  • 6 gourmet a la carte choices with a signature chef's restaurant
  • World class spa and wellness center
  • Recipient of the AAA Four Diamond Award
  • Member of the Leading Hotels of the World luxury hotel consortium

First visit to Playa Del Carmen

This was one of the best vacations that my wife and i have gone on. We booked for 4 days and had a very good time. The service and Hospitality were outstanding. The food was very good. Chef Alex entertained us at the Chef's Table and we had a great time. The food was awesome and Chef Alex treated us like we were old friends. The beaches were beautiful and the water clear and clean. The color of the water was a beautiful green which made the snorkling trip something memerable. We saw Dolphins that played in the wake of the boat we were in. Stingrays played among us. The reef was beautiful and had many colorful fish. The dive shop attached to the Hotel was very helpful and our guide made the trip fun. Later we toured Chitzen Itza on a trip set up by the Hotel. We had our own personal acticities director named William. William was the best and made our stay effortless. The excursions were fun very interesting. I cant say enough about the quality of our stay. We are planning our next visit to Royale Hideaway and cant wait.

Travel Agent loved the Hideaway!!

Have been a big fan of the Royal Hideaway for years! Location Is Excellent, walking distance to 5th Ave. As a Travel Agent I was very pleased to see the beach is bigger then ever, and Beautiful! plenty of lounge chairs! Hurricane in 2008 left them without beach! So pleased with the beach now! Service is excellent any where on property, restaurant's, check in, pool side, beach waiter staff is excellent they work very hard! I only did a three night stay for business, but am planning a week long trip back! it is truly one of my favorites! Restaurant's were excellent, I took a class during the day how to make sushi my husband and I really enjoyed it! Chef Adrian taught us the class, very nice and entertaining! Danny entertainment team came with us and he translated for us! Danny is a very nice and friendly person, loved him!!! That evening we went to Azia Chef Adrian was there and he prepared our dinner for the evening, it was unbelievable and delouses! He came out after every appetizers and explained what he prepared! The waiter was very entraining and friendly! at the end of the meal Chief Adrian had the pastry chef prepare a desert for us! She came out with the chief and waiter! with this big round hard chocolate ball, brownie inside of it! She then poured Warm Irish cream on top that melted it! All I can say is my husband and I were have never had such a delouses desert like that! truly the best! we felt so welcomed there! Rooms were very nice and yes some were being redone, they did move us but really the noise was okay, they would stop and wait even when you walked by! But all will be done and New! I love Las Ventanas too! food was very well presented and excellent! Spices for breakfast was very relaxing not rushed, very good! you could also go to the Deck which I loved looking at the beach and blue water! Plazzo Italian Specialties was excellent, another favorite, They had a beautiful terrace to eat out on! there are only 200 rooms at this resort so you don't feel crowed. Small and quant! Have to give a shout out to my Concierge Sara the best, my birthday she had balloons all over my room, on bed she had balloons, streamers, a cake, champagne, and Happy Birthday card!! She is wonderful as I think all the staff are at the Royal!! loved it! what can I say on pros NONE!!! Hope to see them all soon! thank you so much it truly is Royal!!

First Visit to Royal Hideaway

What a great place for downtime. This resort is great at keeping everything calm and peaceful. The 4 of us enjoyed the food, pools and ocean. MOST important is the fact that we met more people that had been there multiple time and were planning on returning in the next year. I have been on several vacations to several resorts, but none have been so highly recommended. (these are not TS). I will be back also next year. Maybe for a longer stay..God willing.

2nd Visit in last 3 months

My wife and I had the opportunity to visit Royal Hideaway again in October 2016 after our initial visit in July 2016...there were some differences we noticed very quickly because we are thinking it was a different time of the year.."off-season" A bar and restaurant was under construction..The staff was not quit as "on point" as they were in July...However, still very nice resort, great food, beautiful beach, extremely clean and comfortable rooms and great location..We would return once again...

Despite an unpleasant check in and check out process, a great resort.

Even though we were greeted with a glass of champange and a cold towel both the check in and check out process at the Royal Hideaway were not pleasant. Unfortunately my first and last impressions of the Royal Hideaway were blurred by this process. The young woman that assisted us on our arrival was almost rude. She argued with me that $500.00 resort credit that was promised during booking did not apply. She eventually got the approval to extend it to me via her manager. It turned out to be a worthless piece of paper, but that's besides the point.. We were also not informed when we booked the trip or upon our arrival that the resort was going through some major renovations.I'm sure your thinking that it sounds like my vacation was a disaster, far from it.Once we checked into our room we met our concierge Sara everything changed. Sara was fantastic! She made dinner reservations for us every night, always greeted us with a smile and informed us on how to get to Akumel Bay etc.The resort is beautiful and the staff is extremely attentive. From helping you select a pool or beach chaise lounge to cleaning your sunglasses!Despite two of the restaurants being closed, the ones that were open were amazing. The presentation of the food, the quality and taste were superb for an all-inclusive resort.I loved how quiet the resort was including the nightly entertainment. One man playing a instrument. If your looking for a lot of action, this is not the ideal resort for you.We enjoyed afternoon teas after a strenuous day at the beach! Karina was amazing. The beach, pool and spa treatments are all fantastic. The day before our check out Sara ordered a bellman for our 8;30 resort departure. I received a call that they were running behind and wouldn't be able to assist us. We had to lug all our belongings to the lobby! To make matters worse, we had to carry our suitcases up a huge flight of marble stairs. Once again the check out process was a nightmare. My $500.00 resort coupon turned out to be 10-25% off certain services. They would not let me use it towards my spa treatments, claiming we already received a discounted price. I asked to speak with a manager and was informed they were in a meeting. I wasn't the only one grumbling that coupons were not being honored.I selected this resort because I had stayed at the Occidental Xcaret in May. We had upgraded to the Royal club and fell in love with the food and the service. I hope that since these two resorts are now owned by Barcelo, that the service doesn't change.
