Our Opinion

Great choice that has the makings and elements of a luxury hotel. Amazing food options and great service offered by all staff members. The music and noise level tends to run relatively high at times. Despite it getting relatively busy around the beach during the day, staff members have no problem accommodating guests with extra beach chairs.

Overview

The 'royal treatment' is not just a phrase - the signature service of the incredibly luxurious Royal Hideaway by Occidental is a place where service & style come together with complete, grand fashion. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed and indulged with attentive service, as you reside in luxurious villa accommodations of spacious rooms, private terraces and exquisite marble baths with Jaccuzis. Representing a fusion of Spanish & Mexican architecture - winding rivers, waterfalls and fountains connect the villas to the main building, while surrounded by the most beautiful stretch of beach on the Yucatan Peninsula. This resort is where everything around you, from service to food - is nothing but the best!

Location: Directly on the beautiful Playacar beach, 5 minutes from Playa del Carmen, 45 minutes from the airport.

A quite and elegant hotel in the heart of a great location

Away from the noisy hotel in Playacar, this elegant and quiet hotel is a lovely place for adults who wants to enjoy peace, good food, rest, and incredible comfort in their rooms and a great staff willing to help all the time. I´m not a friend of the “all-inclusive” hotels, but the quality of food and wine is very good, and a good deal for Playa del Carmen, that has not so many good restaurants to visit and quiet places to enjoy good music and a drink.100% recommendable. Is like an oasis from all the craziness of the others hotels “all-inclusive”

Great Location, Excellent, Relaxing Resort, Adults Only

My wife and I just had our second visit to Royal Hideway Playacar. We love this location - great beach, walking distance (or very short cab ride - generally about $6 US plus tip) to Fifth Avenue in Playa Del Carmen. Adults only - relaxing resort. Very good to excellent food. If you are a foodie and willing to spend a little more money, the Chef's Table is an incredible experience - glass walled room in kitchen allows you to see the food prep and you get a lot of very personal interaction with the chef. Rooms very nice - we have stayed in regular room (for one extra night due to flight delay), the Junior Suite (very nice, two-story room that allowed me to work in early mornings without disturbing my wife) and got upgraded to the Presidential Suite (awesome) due to a problem with the air conditioning in Junior Suite. Lots of couples at this resort have been here multiple times (one actually celebrated 60 visits during our week) - which is a bid endorsement.

Quiet and relaxing

Oh, how wonderful this hotel was? Well, I can say that the stuff is very friendly and with the willingness to be helpful in any way. The beach is beautiful and the chairs that the hotel offer are amazing. The food ain't Mexican but some of the plates are, and it's good! The room, big and comfortable. The concierge is always there to help in anything.

Second Time Around

We stayed at the Royal Hideaway for a week in the beginning of December and I was somewhat disappointed. Our first trip to this resort was the December before and we had a fantastic time. We were so impressed with the whole resort that we asked our friends to accompany us in December for our second visit. Unfortunately, this resort did not live up to the standards we enjoyed on our first visit. ProsRoom: The resort is beautiful. The rooms are housed in villas with each villa having its own concierge. Our room was quite large with separate bathroom facilities and large balcony. Rooms have a minibar.Pools: There are 2 main pools overlooking the beach area. In this same area, there is a large hot tub along with a couple smaller tubs. Unfortunately, the smaller tubs were not working. Also, there are a few other pools and hot tubs throughout the resort. There was waitstaff walking around tending to your drink and food needs. Every afternoon there was entertainment acts on the pool deck that were very enjoyable. Beach: The beach is the best beach we've been to in our five visit to Mexico. There are many chairs available and each pair of chairs have a cabana if needed for shade. There are also beds available by the pool and beach which were very comfortable.Food: The food was exceptional. The highest quality of food we've ever had for an all inclusive resort and we've been to many of these. All the restaurants were high quality in food and staff. We reserved the Chef's Table for one night (it's an extra charge) and it was beyond our expectations.ConsRoom: In our pre arrival email, we were asked what aroma therapy we wanted in the room, what alcohol we wanted in the minibar, and to pick a type of pillow. When we arrived, there was no aroma therapy, nor the alcohol that we requested. At check in, we were promised a daily newspaper. We only received it 3 days out of 7 days. Also, we only received a daily activity list one day out of 7. Restaurant reservations: We made dinner reservations for our first 2 nights prior to our arrival via an email with Sergio Legorreta who is from the Royal Hideaway's "guest experience". I left the choice of restaurants up to Mr. Legorreta. One of those reservations for was the Grill. This reservation was confirmed a week prior to our arrival. Upon arrival, the Grill was undergoing renovation and was nowhere near being completed. We were forced to find another restaurant for that night. This hotel has a huge problem with dinner reservations. Even making reservations early in our stay, It seemed like we could not get into a restaurant before 9PM. We didn't encounter this problem on our previous visit and am not sure what is causing the current issue. Airline Check-In: We received notice from our concierge, Edgar, to give him the airline and time of our departure. He was to print out our boarding passes. For whatever reason, that was not done.I'm sure to someone, these cons may seem trivial but for a hotel that is part of The Leading Hotels of the World with a 5 star rating, these shortcomings should be remedied.
