Lovely stay at the royalton

I just returned from a week stay at this resort from Feb. 14-21st. Food: The buffet was probably the best i've ever had and i've been to dozens of all inclusives in the carribbean. There's always a huge selection of food and i was surprised by the quality of the food. We enjoyed the buffet very much and never had a bad meal here. -free wifi worked very well throughout most the resort and was very fast, could watch youtube or any other videos on the net. Didn't feel a need to upgrade at all. We were in room 8333 which was perfect as it faces the ocean and pools and not as noisy as the section close to the main pools. Choose building 7,8,or 9 for a family.Beach was very good, white, soft sand and always plenty of lounge chairs to choose from and multiple bars on the beach. You can also purchase a coconut or pineapple for $5USD and they will give it to u filled with a drink or with their juices in it. When we tried to buy one in mid afternoon they were sold out. There was some seaweed on the beach but i seen them driving a tractor on it everyday to try and clear it up, it was minimal and not a problem really ever.Activities: There seems to be so much going on here, we hardly touched the surface of things to do. i seen pool activities everyday, work out sessions going on at the pools and exercising groups. There's a gym here and spa. I seen multiple sports bars but i didnt go into them as i was with small children but there is alot going on.Resort size: Its a mid sized resort, you can walk the length of the resort in about 20 mins so you're never far away from anything. Ive been to mega resorts and this is a good size, especially if you have small children with you. This is definitely a family resort. I don't recommend coming here if you do not have children. There are children everywheres and babies all over the place. Ive never seen so many baby strollers in all my life at a resort but the good thing is its easy for a stroller as they have ramps all over the resort. They do have an adults only section in the hideaway but once u leave that area you're surrounded by children. We were told by the hotel staff the resort was 98% at capacity and it felt like it. You could tell by the chaos and insanity of the breakfast buffet. You were tripping over people and it was so crowded, I honestly was looking forward to coming home because it was so crowded. There is 2 a la carte resturants open if you do not want to come to the buffet but the one we tried wasnt as good as the buffet.Pool: There are numerous pools and the grounds are beautiful and they are always cleaning and fixing things. The pool loungers were almost always taken by towels/books/bags etc by 8am. We were able to find a lounger everyday but you have to be early for the ones closer to the pool. You also have to keep an eye on the pool as every family felt the need to bring things to throw in the pool around such as balls, frisbees, and other items. They were constantly whipping by your head in and out of the pool. We had a sleeping baby in the lounger and i always had to knock balls away from coming close to hitting him. There are lifeguards there watching and they blow the whistle sometimes if they feel someone is breaking a rule but for the most part people do whatever they want. There is also kids pools and a water park so its perfect for children. The pool water was always warm and so nice. There is always someone coming around to get you drinks in each section so that was nice. The quality of the drinks differed from each bar u went to, depending on the bar tender making them i guess. I definitely tipped the staff each time and they always came to check in if u were ok so it was really good. They also have a small food place near the pool sections where u can get food anytime. I also seen them doing special things such as a foam party one day in the kids pool. A wax stand set up so kids could make finger designs in the wax and paint them. I also seen a clown in the buffet at different times making creations for the kids. There was also a guy playing a chello one day in the supper buffet which was a nice touch.Time share: This was definitely the biggest negative of the resort. We were approached 3 times throughout the week with some ploy to get us in the building where they do their travel club presentations. One morning a staff lady said come to our anniversary breakfast. We replied it sounds like fun, she said then u hear details of their club at that building down by the water and we responded we were there and no thanks. We did go to the presentation the first day just because we wanted the $100 resort credit for shopping but the 90 minute presentation turned into 4 hours and we had to basically fight to leave. we had a crying baby who hadnt been fed in hours and they said, just another guy, please wait. They do not take no for an answer. We did some research on their travel club after we left and there is so much negative publicitiy online im surprised anyone says yes but make your own decision. You can research them before you go, travel smart vip club... but we found u could buy points online easily as so many people are trying to get out of it and its like a 1000% cheaper online then at their club. Service: This was good and bad depending on where you were. It was good around the pools as they had many servers coming to bring u drinks but it was not so good at the restaurants. We seen one lady get up at the italian place and say shes been waiting over and hour for food and she stormed off and left. We also seen someone at the japanese restaurant get up and leave before dessert came and then watched the waiters take it over in the corner and eat it. We went for a sit down meal at the zen and the lady said take the buzzer and ill buzz when u can come. I told her i seen a dozen empty tables in the place. She responded theres a long line in front of u sir. When we were buzzed 40 mins later and sat in that same area the same dozen tables were empty. You also wait along time for service and thats disappointing. Ive been to mega resorts where u make reservation s and u get to sit down within 5 mins and eat. Its fine if you want to go sit down and have a drink and wait for a buzzer to go off but when i go out to eat im hungry and want to eat. Manage your time accordingly. The hunter restaurant was good but the opa one wasnt nothing special. We enjoyed the italian one as well. This is a very good resort in general. I would return but not in feb again. The crowds were bad at the buffets but there seemed to be lots of room around the pools. They also did some extra special things as my birthday was that week. They had a bunch of balloons blown up on my bed and a banner of happy bday on my door when i came back with some champagne and a chocolate cake. Another good thing is most the channels are english and you can always find something to watch in the evening after a long day out in the sun. Another negative is you can always hear people walking thru the hallways and the echo makes it so loud and u hear everything. i heard drunk people arguing late at night and kids going crazy in the hallways and in the room next to us. We enjoyed our jaccuzzi lots and definitely go ocean front. The building s are shaped like a C so each building gets some sort of ocean view but the back gets a swamp view and the smells im sure. There s also buildings behind the resort so you wouldnt enjoy the deck in the back ever id think. The resort is only 2 years old as well and the rooms are very modern. Free room service was awesome and quick. Its hard to find fault with this resort but the time share people and slow service does bring the rating down so 4 stars is fair for sure.Ill definitely be back someday but not in feb or march! The shows are definitely nice and we enjoyed them for sure. Micheal jackson was the best of course but they are performed acrossed a pool so ur not as close as a theater.

Amazing hotel

This is an amazing hotel We stayed at hideaway which is an adults only area and its perfect for a quite evening. The swimming pools are really good taken care of and the staff is spot on. For people that are very picky with cocktails - don't worry! they have actual brands of alcohol and not that slushy type cheap cocktails that are often seen in all-inclusive hotels.

Family vacation

Great resort with something for kids and adults. The pools were great and we lived the swim out rooms. Nice variety of food at the different restaurants and fun entertainment each night. Would definitely return!

Great for family/kids. Food is above average for a resort. Great Pools and Beach. Large resort by room count, but well laid out with thoughtful approach to the design of the property/facilities. Been twice in two years and will probably go back.
