Our Opinion

Sandos Playacar is an amazing luxury resort for those wanting quality experience and service. The resort area is huge, meaning there are plenty of things to do. From beachside activities to the nightly theatre entertainment the quality is reflected in all elements of the resort. If you are looking for top-shelf liquor, opt to be more of a premium traveler when staying here. There is a wide array of food items, which could get a bit overwhelming. However, they are all good in quality.

The Sandos Playacar is simply, a stunning resort, set on one of the nicest stretches of beach in Playacar. This quality 5-star resort features excellent cuisine, immaculate service and offers such generous inclusions as such as 24 hour room service, a stocked in-room mini-bar and a great fitness centre. The Hacienda section creates the atmosphere of a Mexican village surrounded by beautiful tropical foliage. Each 10-unit building has its own solarium and private pool. Enjoy luxury at its best!

Location: On the beach, 5 minutes to Playa del Carmen, 60 minutes from Cancun, 45 minutes from the airport.

  • Beautiful, spacious beach
  • Accommodations in distinct sections for beach, families, adults only
  • Wide array of dining choices
  • Close to downtown Playa del Carmen
  • Kids Club and games room for Teens
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Eco-friendly and Rainforest Alliance Certified

Returning to the resort again and again

My family and me just finished our eleven days long vacation (07/10/17 to 07/21/17) with another two families and friend of the my son for who this was graduation trip, and l'm sure that he will remember that trip for the all his life . Just wanna manchand this was 11th visit for may family and me in the this resort. Like everywhere and any life nothing is perfect . But have to say every year I see a lot improvement and better things . Alacart restaurants very nice with nice still and very good service personal . Thus time some of veiters and bartenders really deserve to their names been recognized . Blue moon bar:Asuncion , Jorge Salas , Carlos Puc , Maria and all of the others . Same thing for Avenue bar for Vicente , Jose Armando and Minerva . Beech is paradise with Cristal clear water and one of my favorite reasons to return in to same resort again and again . I'm finally finished with words "I love it and I'm very happy with my decision ".

Fantastic resort

Family of 5 (kids aged 15, 12 and 8) stayed for 2 weeks in July in a Riviera family suite in the family section. Room was large but lacking storage space for 5 people for 2 weeks. I was provided with additional clothes hangers which helped. The resort is very large and took a day or two to navigate around it. As an eco resort you are not provided with a map but there were large maps at various points to help you get around. There is a shuttle bus to take you around the resort with a pick up point just outside the family area but was usually full so we walked to the main swimming pool and the breakfast buffet each morning. Lovely walk and didn't take too long but certainly wouldn't want to be walking back and forth during the day.We visited all the restaurants and they were all very good however we found the Asian restaurant to be very slow. The burrito bar was our son's favorite for the crepes and burritos. The french restaurant has no air conditioning and we were bitten by mosquitoes the night we visited. The staff did observe that we were having problems with mosquitoes so brought us over repellent to use. The beach was amazing and really made the holiday very special. The kids enjoyed snorkeling and feeding the fish in the sea.The facilities for the children was fantastic. Our youngest loved the kids club and attended everyday. He loved all the staff who worked really hard especially Debbie, Liz and Adrianna. The teens club was brilliant for our 12 year old son- I couldn't believe that this was included free of charge! There were pool tables, air hockey, play stations, arcade games and much more. We attended the evening shows but as the same shows are on each week the second week was quite boring as we had seen the shows before. It would be better if there was a 2 week rotation on the shows as the only alternative to have a drink is the lobby bar in the evening which was very quiet.During our stay we took a taxi to Sandos Caracol to use the water park. There were lots of slides for younger children but only 4 slides that our sons could use but they did enjoy it. We couldn't wait to get back to Sandos Playacar as Caracol is nowhere near the standard of Playacar. Overall we had a great holiday and would highly recommend the hotel for families. We hope to visit again in the future.

Honeymoon Getaway

After booking the trip and reading the reviews, I was so nervous that our honeymoon may not be the 4-5 star rating, so I went down with low expectations. What I have concluded is, people have very high expectations and if one or two things went wrong; they gave a terrible review. We lost a pair of diamond earrings, but did not let it spoil our trip, or blame anyone but ourselves.I cannot wait to go back to the Sandos Playacar Beach Resort. What to avoid listening to: If you choose to stay at the adult resort and you fear the "long" walk everyone mentions in their reviews, it's not as bad as people make it out to be. Five minute walk or two minute cart ride. We walked most of the time, but in other cases where we wanted to get to and from quickly, we took the cart. I think Sandos would benefit from running two carts at the same time simultaneously, this could prevent the wait at the shuttle stop, max 15-20mins wait. What we loved: Victoria, the activities coordinator for the adult pool parties/games was absolutely amazing. I could have spent my whole trip in the pool playing games and enjoying the barbeque. Her energy and enthusiasm was excellent! I'm still hearing "tequila tequila" in my head!Gustavo, David, Jose Luis- AMAZING service and drinks. We enjoyed every pool day or afternoon under your care. You three were extremely friendly, personable, and kind, not to mention, great at what you do! It was obvious to us you all were happy and loved your jobs.------We could not get over how hard all of the Sandos employees worked. Cleaning crew, landscapers, bartenders, waiting staff, entertaining staff, and many other employees were admirable. The property looked great and things ran smoothly because of their service. -------Restaurants and the food was so delicious! We had a hard time of wanting to try something new, but also wanting to go back to the previous restaurant from the night before! I assumed the food would be generic and plain, but I was completely mistaken. I was extremely impressed with the quality of all the meals we had at Sandos. -------When we had a problem with our shower stall leaking, maintenance staff fixed it right away. Any concerns or needs were met by staff immediately, with a smile. -------It was quickly notice that the location of the beach is the best around! We went to Cozmel Island one day and the waves were horrendous. The resort sits by a beach that gets less wind, which makes it a hundred times more enjoyable for swimming and water sports. -------Spa- On our last day we did a romantic couples massage which was amazing and affordable. I highly recommend it!---------Cons of our trip have to be mentioned:How can we tip your employees with no way to exchange higher USD bills for ones? We were not able to exchange a $20.00 USD one night at reception because no one had paid in cash that day. We ended up going to our friendly bartenders at the pool for help, so it worked out, but I suggest keeping cash at reception for other guest who like to tip for great service. From my understanding, the room's fridge would be stocked daily, especially if you left a great tip, but I was wrong. I had to ask guest services to stock the fridge the following day. In room 9111, the light block curtain was worn down and needed to be replaced. When on vacation, I felt annoyed of the many offerings to become a member daily. Regardless of our cons, we had an amazing time with little to no complaints at all. I have already calculated the savings that needs to happen for us to return with our two kids in the future! I will definitely be going back to Sandos for the great experience.

Good family trip

We have been to Mexico about 20 times now. We enjoy all-inclusive resorts with our boys. This trip was our first time to Sandos Playacar. We have been to Sandos Caracol twice but do prefer the Playacar. There were 4 adults and 7 kids ages 9-17. Check in-Very quick and smooth. We were able to go right to our room after they tried to get us to do the time share breakfast. We politely declined and were then taken to our rooms.Rooms- My family had 2 rooms in building 14 in the family section. Rooms were ok. A little worn but the beds were very comfortable. Housekeeping was wonderful as well as the restocking of our fridge. One issue was the patio doors. In my room you better not shut the door all the way if you are on the patio as there was no handle out side of the door. In my kids room the door handle was only attached by one screw on the inside of the door and it was very difficult to open the door to get the door open. The rooms are very far from most restaurants and the beach, plaza & main pool. We did take the shuttle a few times which is great but allow yourself extra time as you will wait a long time.Pools-We used the family pool near our room one day. It was very peaceful and nice. The bartender was great and lunch snack bar there was my older sons favorite. He actually went all the way back there to eat lunch a couple of times. No issue finding seats so it was nice. We used the family pool the most as it is right by the beach and the restaurants. We are fair skinned so being in the pool is better than all day in the ocean. We liked to use the ocean off and on during the day. There was music and activities at this pool and we had a good time and never had a problem getting seats.Beach-Beautiful! White sand and was very clean. Plenty of chairs and entertainment on the beach. We loved the bands but wish we had better weather as we had 3 straight days of rain. So we had to use the pools instead as the ocean was to rough.Restaurants- We ate breakfast in the buffet everyday and it was wonderful. Lunch was usually the burrito place for the kids (their favorite) or the snack bar by the beach, We did eat at the buffet for lunch twice and it was good. We just hate getting dry to eat lunch so will usually eat on the fly. Dinner - My favorite was the Italian. We ate here twice and our group pretty much tried most of the menu. Filet mignon was outstanding. We also ate at the Brazilian twice. The first time was fabulous, the second time the meat was overcooked and not so good. All in all we were very happy with the food and the longest we waited for a table was 40 minutes.activities- Plenty of activities on the beach and some near the main pool. There was also the teens club which the kids liked. The plaza at night was nice to watch the shows although we did have a lot of rain so we only made 3 shows. Staff- They were great. Very helpful and almost always a smile. They worked very hard and we tipped accordingly. They truly deserve kudos from management.Overall our trip was good and we will go back next year if the price is right.
