Our Opinion

Sandos Playacar is an amazing luxury resort for those wanting quality experience and service. The resort area is huge, meaning there are plenty of things to do. From beachside activities to the nightly theatre entertainment the quality is reflected in all elements of the resort. If you are looking for top-shelf liquor, opt to be more of a premium traveler when staying here. There is a wide array of food items, which could get a bit overwhelming. However, they are all good in quality.

Great week in the Select Club!

We just returned from a week at the Select Club and it was a great time!Room: We had room 9225 which I think is the furtherest most room in the entire place (last block of rooms and facing the jungle) but that was fine by us. Our a/c was super cold and worked great! Housekeeping did a great job every day and our mini fridge was always restocked. The room itself was nice and big. There are elevators in the Select Club if that is a concern for anyone. Every day (esp. morning) the coatis would be on the ledge behind our building. They are so cute!Beach: The most beautiful beach I have ever seen! There were no rocks at all and there were always a lot of people out in the water. We spent our time in the Select Club area which had waiter service and was quieter than the family side where all the activities take place during the day. Food: We loved having the separate breakfast buffet for the Select Club! We went to the big buffet one morning for breakfast but it didn't seem to have anything that the adults only buffet didn't have. We ate at the Italian restaurant which was good and also the Brazilian which we really enjoyed. The ONLY complaint I have about the resort is about the buffet for dinner as there was no carved or grilled meat selection. The other resorts we have been to always had a carving station or grilling station which were different every night and were really good. We ate at Chayita one afternoon and really liked it. The iced coffees at the Cupcake Cafe were the highlight of my day - so good! Select Club Pool: We loved the select club pool!!! We would head there every afternoon after the beach. Late afternoon is when things start getting really fun at the pool - the girl who does the games is really great and gets most everyone to participate. Even if you don't join in it's still fun to watch. They grill poolside every afternoon and that's where we ate lunch most days. The food is really good and the guy who grills does an awesome job! The swim-up bar was always fun and Fabian is great at getting everyone their drinks even though it can get really crowded! The atmosphere at the adult pool can't be beat!We spent a lot of time at night at the Premium Bar at the meeting place - shoutout to Rodrigo who was awesome and made the best drinks! There were always people there coming and going and we talked to a lot of interesting people. We're not much into the shows so I can't really comment on them although we did hang out at the bar by the stage a few times which was a really nice area. The family pool area looked like it was a lot of fun for the kids but we didn't spend any time there - just saw it when we were walking though to get to the beach. All in all we had a great time and would definitely return to the Select Club - thanks Sandos!

Third trip and still love it!

I have visited this resort three times now. Summer of 2014, 2016, and this summer 2017. My husband and I have been alone in the adults only section and with children in both Family Section and a 1-bedroom hacienda. It is the only all-inclusive I have chosen to return to multiple times. No resort is perfect, but I feel this resort is perfect for me and my wants and needs. My pros: I love the beach. Playacar has the most beautiful beach in all of Playa del Carmen. I love the staff and service at Sandos. The resort is very clean. The ala carte restaurants are another pro for me. The food is delicious. I love the no reservations and the relaxed dress code for men. Going in the summer the last thing my husband and sons want to do is put on long pants and closed toed shoes. We love the open outdoor theater and the shows are (for resort shows) entertaining. Other positives: new buffet is beautiful, Chayita when need a break from buffet, and the animals and wildlife. One con: we had a lot of mosquitos in our hacienda this year. Every night before bed I would walk around and try to kill as many as I could. I think it was because it was a big beautiful space the door is open for quite a while when housecleaning is there. I never remembered this being an issue the previous years. I bring this up because I know many come home from tropical vacations full of bug bites. It's hard sometimes to know if it was mosquitoes or sand fleas or even something from the ocean. For us, the amazing memories we had at Sandos Playacar are well worth a few mosquito bites. Thanks for memories Sandos!!!

Most recent visit - June 14-21, 2017

This is our second visit to Sandos Playacar. Last year we stayed in the adult (back) section, this year the beachfront section. Totally different experience!!! Both were very fun times. This years friends were much more beach oriented. The beachfront rooms are closer to most restaurants- which is a plus - and also the member exclusive bars. Pool time in the adult section is definitely more relaxing. We were disappointed that the poolside grill was not working for lunch most days - that was our favorite spot last year. We very much enjoyed the revised Italian restaurant - it quickly became our favorite! Food was great and service (Margarita) was top notch!!! The Gourmet Mexican restaurant did not impress and the service was cold (at best). The Argentinian restaurant was good again but very disappointed to see the filet replaced with kabobs of beef - not a step in the right direction as I had such an awesome steak there a year ago. If you have the right color wristband, look for Daniel in the Meeting Place Premium Bar! If you need a massage or something from the spa, Zayas is the "man" and you will find him either poolside or along the beach.Overall - yes, still four out of five stars. Will we be back? Likely so - stay tuned for the next review!

Sandos Playacar....what a wonderful property, we will go back

What a beautiful beach, and you can walk out into the crystal clear water for quite a ways... booked June 17-21 We stayed in the beach section, where we did have an ocean view...the rooms were large and clean. The frig was kept stocked and my sister even had room service a few times in her room, which was great. Guest services bent over backwards to make our stay wonderful. I appreciated the shuttle service around the property, since my hip had been bothering me, the shuttle came around every 10-15 minutes. We did watch a live show one night, which was great, and they have a different show each night. SEVERAL pools on the property were all great.we only had 4 nights at the property since we stayed at another hotel for 7 nights, this was just a bonus for us. We did try 4 different restaurants at the property...1st nt. we tried the French Restaurant, food was delicious and service was excellent.2nd nt. we went to the Italian Restaurant, as well it was wonderful.3rd nt. we tried the Steakhouse Restaurant, melt in your mouth steaks here.4th night we ate at the Mexican Restaurant, where our waiter ,Condero,(I believe) asked our names, and as he served us, he had a big smile on his face and called us all by our names(there were 4 of us), he is an EXCELLENT waiter and has such a great personality, and the food was not the typical Mexican food, it was tasty and prepared wonderfully. Most mornings we ate at the Mexican Restaurant, were we had EXCELLENT service, the waiters and waitresses truly cared about each customer. A heads up for Luis Escalante, Isamar Vera, Mirian Robles, Elena Aguilar and Hostess was Maria... We are going back to stay at least a week in December.

Great Activities

We visited from June 16 - 23 and really enjoyed our time there. The highlight would have to be the activities organized in the adult pool (volleyball and water balloon fights were ridiculously fun) and the spa treatments (shout out to Elena for setting us up with our massages!). The best food was at The Gourmex (Mexican food). The other restaurants were ok...would recommend going into town for truly excellent cuisine.
