Our Opinion

Sandos Playacar is an amazing luxury resort for those wanting quality experience and service. The resort area is huge, meaning there are plenty of things to do. From beachside activities to the nightly theatre entertainment the quality is reflected in all elements of the resort. If you are looking for top-shelf liquor, opt to be more of a premium traveler when staying here. There is a wide array of food items, which could get a bit overwhelming. However, they are all good in quality.

Mostly great but need some improvements

We visit this resort every year in May. We love the beautiful beach and friendly stuff. We also love how each year the resort has added something to improve the resort. In the past 5 years, they have added either a new restaurant, new members lounge (nice since we are members) a new entertainment area for the nightly shows, and most recently the main buffet was renovated and is now much bigger with a large variety of different food choices and it has air conditioning now. But it seems that the resort isn't keeping up on the upkeep of other areas of the resort. For instance, we love to stay in the ocean front rooms because of the amazing views, but these rooms have really gone down. This year we had 3 of these rooms with our friends staying in them. We requested the top floors ahead of time but all three ended up being on the bottom floor. Which doesn't have a great view. The air conditioner didn't work at all in one of them and the other 2 barley worked. And the room where the air conditioner didn't work at all also could not get cool water in his shower. Only warm or hot. This meant he couldn't even cool down with a cool shower. He started getting heat exhaustion from not being able to cool down. All three rooms had a really bad smell in them also. They all had dehumidifiers which is something I had never seen in the rooms since we've been going each year since 2008. The air conditioner was working so poorly that the dehumidifiers had to be emptied 3 times a night for the first couple nights we were there since it was so hot outside. This meant it beeped when it was full of water and my friends had to get up from bed and empty it. This really affected their comfort and sleep needless to say. They were able to move our friends that were in the room where the air didn't work at all and the new rooms air worked but still not great but doable. We stayed this year in the haciendas which were great and the air worked perfect. I had seen one of the Royal Elite guys who visits all the resorts and asked him when they were going to take care of the air conditioning in the ocean front rooms but he said he didn't realize there was a problem with them. I find that very hard to believe. Unless the staff at the resort doesn't communicate with those who make improvements.Another area of the resort that the air conditioner doesn't work is the gift shop. My suggestion is fix problems like this before adding new things to the resort. The comfort of the rooms should be top priority.

Just returned today from a 7 day stay.

Let me start by saying how friendly the staff is. Everyone is so cordial and quick to say "hola" and offer assistance. That is not the case with the employees at the main check-in desk. I found the check-in staff to be very difficult to work with once you have checked into the hotel. We received our "check out early letter", the night before we left stating that we could avoid lines if we paid our bill (massage costs). We stopped by on our way back to the room last night to settle the bill and did not have our passport with us so we went to the room and my husband promptly returned to the desk and was told that he would have to wait until after shift change which would be about a 30 minute wait?? Our daughter and friend were staying in another room and when they tried to check out early, they were told they would have to wait until in the morning. Seems like the letter was a waste of paper. Also, we were unable to get money changed there and told to fine a bellman or waiter that could possibly use their tip money to change our bills. The resort grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We loved watching the Lemurs everyday as they prowled around the surroundings of the facility. We saw many different types of animals during our stay and found that to be exciting. The rooms were nice and fairly well maintained. We had a few glitches with a stopped up shower drain and a broken safe, but when we called guest services, they were there to repair the issues within 30 minutes which is unheard of in most hotels. We had requested 1 room with a king bed and 1 room with 2 double beds that were close to each other. This request was made through the travel company we booked through 7 months ago, as well as through a phone call I placed to the hotel approx. a week prior to our travel. Both assured me that could be arranged. Unfortunately when we arrived at the check-in desk, we were told that the rooms were on 2 different floors. After much discussion, we were assigned rooms that were close together. That being said, the rooms were located at the very back building in the adult section. The furthest away from the beach and activities. There is a golf cart used to transport guests to the beach area, but it is quite a long wait because there is only one that is used to shuttle passengers back and forth to the activity center. Therefore, we found that if we were going out, we needed to bring everything with us to keep from having to walk back and forth which was about a 30 minute walk. Must say the wifi in the room was terrible. The food was good and the restaurants were nice. The spa was amazing! Not sure yet if we will return to this hotel, or try a different one mainly because of the distance of the room to the beach area, but we did have a nice time and love Playa del Carmen.Just want to remind everyone who reads this that the wait staff, maids, bartenders, etc... probably don't make a exhorbitant amount of money, so I'm sure tipping is appreciated. Good service definately deserves recognition!

Good economic all inclusive resort

Went on a short vacation with 20 work friends and their families. There is definitely something here for everyone of different interests, ages and speeds. Nice live entertainment nightly, decent food and a party beach atmosphere daily. Staff was friendly, especially if you tip well. Rooms were nothing fancy, but clean and we had a patio walk out to the main beach area. Nice and relaxing for my cup of tea.

Another wonderful vacation at Sandos Playacar

My wife and I recently returned from a two week vacation at Sandos Playacar. We have been owners there since 2008 and have gone every year. I am very please with all the new development and upgrades at this resort. I would like to thank David E for his continued service in making us feel welcome. I would also like to thank Gustavo who has made our reservations each year at all their resorts. I would also like to thank some people behind the scenes who have became our friends. That would be Ana Taboada and Diego. My wife and I both enjoyed our messages given by Laura and Lydia at the spa. I personally had Laura and if you want a relaxing message I would highly recommend Laura who actually put me to sleep. Great vacation, now back to the grind. Al Everett

Wedding

Amazing resort, amazing Weather, and amazing staff!First time at this resort and I can honestly say nothing bad.The hacienda suites are huge! The pictures they have online don't do justice at all, the rooms are so spacious and nice.Maria and Marisol helped my husband and I make our day special, a beautiful wedding that words cannot express how beautiful they made it. They were accommodating and made it very stressful free. The beach was beautiful, the food was amazing, the music was amazing, and the drinks were flowing. The Italian menu is to die for so delicious! We ate at the Italian most nights and it was amazing and the Mexican Grill! The best burritos I have ever had.Carmen at the spa did my makeup and hair for the wedding party and she did amazing, love her. She made me look amazing, Profesional makeup all Mac makeup and hair was done beautifully.
