Our Opinion

The Secrets Capri is a smaller, romantic, high end all inclusive resort. Good for couples looking for a relaxing, low key getaway. The service is superb, rooms are excellent and the whole resort is clean and inviting. There is a great spa to take your relaxation to another level. A definite recommend. If you are looking for a larger resort, try their sister property the Secret Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun.

wonderful visit with a few minor disappointments.

on two occasions, housekeeping left our patio door unlocked. I left a note for them to lock it one day and they still did not lock the door. The following day, I attached the note to the door itself and they locked it after that. With them leaving the door unlocked, I didn't feel secure leaving our belongings in the room, unattended.

March 9th 2017 stay at Secrets Capri

The staff is remarkable and the service is outstanding. The whole resort is beautiful. At check in we were well received and personal. If you want to avoid timeshare shenanigans, simply tell them that your not interested. If you want some gifts for 3 hours of your time, than go for it. It was my girlfriends birthday, so she got champagne and a piece of cake.

Nice property with the great service you can expect from Secrets

So to start, this wasn't my first experience with Secrets resorts. We stayed previously at the one in Huatulco which is one of the best resorts I have ever stayed at and in all fairness they had a lot to live up to here... while the service was impeccable and the food was good, as always, I can say they definitely fell a little short in terms of the facilities and maintenance. My girlfriend and I arrived on a quick five day vacation. The reception was quick and friendly and we actually got our room three hours early along with a nice upgrade to a king sized suite which was nice. The resort is a little smaller than most but well done with an easy layout and a nice classy feel. The room was large and well equipped and seemed relatively clean on our arrival. However, be warned, the resort has some major sewage issues and after coming to talk to some of the other guests the issue plagues a lot of the resort. After a few hours of hot sun the room tends to smell like something died in it. It wasn't too bad at first but quickly became overpowering with time. At one point we had an issue sleeping due to the overpowering stench of feces. We reported it the next day and were told they would look into it but nothing happened. Beautiful rooms, disgusting smell... bottom line.On our last day, after my girlfriend complained of being bitten by mosquitos the whole time (they're all dead this time of year) we found a bunch of weird bug larvae under the first layer of sheets of our bed and some weird bugs seemed to have inhabited our lower sheets. We did sleep with the door open a few times due to the stench but the bugs were definitely in full force and she has the bug bites to prove it. We did mention it to the concierge at the checkout and he found it disturbing and loosely mentioned he might have someone check into it. Either way, he was nice, the vacation was over, and I didn't feel like being a loud mouth at the end of the trip was going to win us any discounts or action so I just left it.The beach is nice and the service there is pretty good. The only negatives are the soft gooey clay that starts about 15 feet out from the beach. I mean, it's naturally what's there and nature is nature but it's a little gross to walk through. Otherwise the beach is well manicured, good for swimming and always seemed to have chairs available. The buffet is pretty small but the amazing food makes up for it. What's limited by choices is made up for by taste. Great food, excellent service. The taco bar by the beach is also super awesome but be prepared to literally fist fight birds as they dive bomb to steal your salsa chips. All of the bars are well stocked and the bartenders are conscientious and know their mixology. The liquor isn't always premium but it's far from bottom of the barrel. Tip them well and they'll take care of you.The pools are clean and the drinks keep coming but the party pool scene isn't really our thing so we stayed away. Too many adults consuming too much alcohol without bathroom breaks, but that's every resort...The spa was awesome with Maria being hilarious directing us through the hydro massage. We also had a deep tissue massage and while I find some resort massages to be a joke this one was serious and she went deep. Well done.We took a trip into Cozumel by ourselves and did some diving with Deep Blue dive shop which were amazing so look them up and ask for Sandro if you have the chance.Coffee shop was amazing with some nice little 24 hour snacks and solid deserts.Mini bars are well stocked with soft drinks and a few beers. Free of course...We ordered room service once at 2am. It was a huge order and it came within 20 minutes. The food was amazing and the order was done to a T.Wifi was free but super inconsistent so if you have to work while away consider renting a wireless hub for use at the airport. Stay away from them wanting to show you Maroma. It's just a sales pitch to join the rewards club.We did submit a little bit of a complaint online after the whole affair. We do love AM resorts after all and surely this was a one off affair... it does ask for 17-21 days until they get back to you. Another one off into the void...So overall, the amazing service and food you come to expect from Secrets with nice facilities and the smell of ten dead men coming from your shower drains and bugs living in your sheets that clearly eat people. Despite the couple of negatives I would still do a Secrets resort again, just not Capri. Good people (I mean they didn't fix the dead people in my shower situation but I only squawked once), good food, a decent enough facility, but definitely fell short of our expectations following Secrets Huatulco. But as I said, I would stay at a Secrets again, I would just double up on my research first. Service in the restaurants and bars are outstanding and despite the grossness in the rooms the workers at the resort will literally bite off their limbs if you ask them too. But don't ask... it gets messy so be warned.

Really nice hotel with great staff--no need to hesitate

6 night stay 3/16-3/22 Tropical View, Room 326. In short, I give this hotel 4 stars which is high in my book. It's definitely worth going and going back to. If you are disappointed with your stay here then you are probably way to picky however I do like to write detailed reviews so people can get the full scope. My intention is not to nit pick every little thing I didn't like but I will pick out things that may or may not bother some people. Bars:The bar staff for the most part were friendly and helpful though I felt that some of the bartenders were not that enthusiastic when ordering drinks, particularly in the main lounge and sports bar area. I didn't bother to write down names because I'm not out to roast the staff as they all work hard. There is top shelf liquor like Grey Goose, Disaronno and they even have 10 Year Port Wine. It was never hard to get a drink and never a problem to get as much alcohol you wanted poured down your throat. The Desires Sports Bar area, well, it smelled bad, like really bad. It had a funk I can't explain it. My wife and I and other couples we met just couldn't stand it. You walk in and it hits you like a wall of bad odor. Same with the Theater, horrible smell. Which is crazy because the rest of the hotel smelt like a Spa. I seriously want my house to smell like the main hotel did it was so nice. Food:Here is a very subjective area. Overall I thought the food was great. My one complaint was the Seaside Grill Steakhouse. I ordered the T-Bone Steak. It was horrible. It was about 1/6th of an inch thick and just flat out disgusting. A steak from Applebee's is probably 5 times better then what I was served. My Wife ordered the baked prime rib, it was raw as can be and again about 1/6th of an inch thick. If you are a steak lover you are going to be extremely disappointed. Of course you can get the upgraded steak(6oz filet and Lobster tail) for an upgraded $40 charge. I heard it was pretty good but defeats the purpose of paying for an Luxury All Inclusive. The main stars are the Italian and Japanese, really really good(Guys need long pants and closed toe shoes for both). I also thought the La Riviera Buffet(Guys need shirts with sleeves) was really good as well with plenty of variety. The Catcus Club was really good for lunch, try the Buffalo wings! So overall the food is really good. Rooms: Our room was on the 3rd floor and it was nice, it was a basic Tropical Room. It did show some wear and tear but no major complaints. The staff did not restock the Pringles and M&M's from day 1 We left a note requesting they be restocked and still nothing. Not a huge deal as I am sure we could have easily called and requested they be restocked. All I am pointing out is that it appears some things are not automatically restocked. Bottled Water was plentiful. We didn't drink the Nips or Corona's or Soda so not sure how they are with restocking that stuff. You get really good size shampoo, conditioner, lotion, sun screen and body gel which they do restock if needed. There is a tooth brush and a disposable razor, and other little toiletries in the room. The Maid staff does a great job and are trust worthy. Beach:Not much to say here because there is not much beach. If you are a Beach person, this resort is not for you. The beach is very small. Can you sit out on the beach? yes. The ocean was a little rougher out there than other reports we have stayed at. We didn't see to many people in the ocean at all. This is probably the biggest downfall to this resort. Pool:There is only 1 pool but it is quite large and it's pretty nice though as with lots of hotels, it's probably time to redo it. Lot of loose tiles and it just shows it's age but not a deal breaker. Almost everyone thought the pool was a tad to cold but I thought it was just fine. The Jacuzzi on the other hand was cold. Only went it once and I think it was in the low 90's. I'm from New England and I like my hot tubs at 104 no matter what lol. Rafts were provided but pretty much all were taken up by about 11am or so. Spa:I think this is where they really shined. The Spa experience was awesome. We did a 50 minute couples Swedish massage on a special deal which the included an hour of hydrotherapy. Maria was our "guide" and she did a fantastic job. It was such a great experience. The Jacuzzi in the Hydrotherapy room could really use new tile, it definitely shows it's age. I really wish we did the thing where the fish eat at your feet but we will next time. Overall, If you are someone who likes Spa's I will find it hard to believe if you are disappointed with your experience. Entertainment:The daily entertainment crew was outstanding making sure they tried to engage everyone in the daily activities they held around the resort. BIG shout out to the entertainment staff. Especially Karla. The nighttime entertainment was a bit lacking compared to other resorts. Again, the Theater Room smelled so bad, we tried to endure a magic show and it was horrible. Everyone just started walking out. They had play money casino nights which could win you some great prizes but unfortunately they held the auction at Desires Bar which again, smelt really bad. So that is it in a nut shell. We will definitely go back after visiting some other Secrets resorts first. I think our next stop is Secrets SilverSands or Secrets Playa Mujeres.

Smaller resort, great for groups

I just returned from a ladies-only trip to Secrets Capri and cannot wait to go back! The hotel was wonderful about putting all of our rooms together and making us feel extra special. The staff was amazing and we all kept commenting how sincerely happy they all seemed to be which was great because it made the atmosphere upbeat. I was worried that the alcohol would be watered down (as I have found at other all-inclusive resorts) but it wasn't and they even carried top-shelf alcohol such as Grey Goose! The food was okay. It wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing. I decided the good part of it not being amazing is that we didn't eat too much! That being said, the atmosphere in the restaurants was great and we enjoyed them all. All restaurants and buffets had special items for gluten free, diary free, nut free, etc. I thought this was super helpful. There were tons of activities to do day/night including wine/tequila tasting, archery, shotgun shooting, bingo, water aerobics, yoga, dance lessons, and much more. The reason this property is so perfect for groups is that it is smaller than most resorts. there is only one pool and the beach is close by. The restaurants and bars are all in 2 locations also so looking for your group is super easy. I recommend this resort to everyone of all ages. It was fun, reasonably priced and the staff makes it magical. A special shout out to our concierge, Maritza, our entertainment director, Hector, entertainment staff, Yolanda, and lobby bartender, Roque. While all the staff was amazing, these few went out of their way to make our trip extremely memorable.
